Angular distributions of $ \gamma$ -rays for selected transitions in Ar isotopes have been studied with the PRISMA magnetic spectrometer coupled to the CLARA $ \gamma$ array. These transitions were populated in Ar isotopes reached via neutron transfer in the Ar + Pb reaction. By comparison with the shape of the experimental angular distribution of the known E2 transitions we established more firmly the spin and parity of excited states. In particular, in Ar for the $ (11/2^-)$ state through the $ (11/2^-) \rightarrow 7/2^-$ transition whose structure was discussed in terms of a phonon-fermion coupled state. The comparison with the expected fully aligned spin indicated that a high level of spin alignment has been reached. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Cross-sections of the main reaction channels for the collision Ne + Pb at 7.9MeV/u were studied using the radioactive ion beam delivered by the SPIRAL facility and the VAMOS-EXOGAM experimental set-up. Angular distributions for the elastic and inelastic channels were extracted, together with distributions for the +1 n and -1 p channels. Multi-nucleon transfer reactions in 40Ca + 208Pb have been studied at several bombarding energies close to the Coulomb barrier. Light reaction products have been identified in mass and charge with a time-of-flight spectrometer. The energy spectra of the inclusive two-neutron pick-up channel show a population in a narrow region of excitation energies which corresponds to the predicted energy of pairing-vibration states in 42Ca. The two systems 40Ca + 90,96Zr have been studied by measuring nucleon transfer reactions at two energies near the Coulomb barrier, thus complementing the available sub-barrier fusion cross-sections. Angular distributions for various transfer channels have been determined. Significantly larger neutron transfer cross-sections are found for the target 96Zr that exhibits the larger enhancement in the sub-barrier fusion cross-sections. All data have been analyzed with a new model for heavy-ion collisions that calculates simultaneously transfer cross-sections, fusion excitation functions and barrier distributions. Pure elastic and inelastic scattering cross sections have been measured for the systems 58Ni +90,94Zr at energies near the Coulomb barrier where not only quasi-elastic and fusion but also deep-inelastic process come into play. Coupled channels calculations including both projectile and target inelastic excitations can successfully explain the elastic and inelastic scattering angular distributions with an energy-independent semi-empirical bare potential.
