This research shows the ways of exchanging products in the market days of Etla, Ocotlán, Tlacolula, Zaachila and Central de Abastos, from de region of Central Valleys of Oaxaca. In these places we interviewed 78 sellers that sold or bartered wild and weedy plants collected, as well as cultivated products on a small scale that come from their home gardens and their planting lands. These activities are carried out by marginal sectors of the population, mainly indigenous and peasants in order to contribute to their subsistence. With the information obtained a characterization of such merchants, who are known as “Propios”, and was noted the importance of the interchange non monetized practices in a predominantly trade society. It is concluded that the Central Valleys markets are an important economic institution for the region, due to these integrate with and without money interchanges, these types of interchange respond to the sociocultural and economic features of who perform it. Moreover, it is considered that the prehispanic practices of interchange of products are a sample of the cultural persistence and of the livelihood strategies of the region. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
