The aim of this paper is to analyze consumer trajectories that define different ways of relating to the material culture of the evangelical mega-churches in Argentina. In order to do this, it is necessary to study the itineraries based on (a) the ritual contexts, (b) the dominant objects, and (c) the emotions involved in their choices. The paper is divided into three parts. In the first, we will problematize the epistemology of consumption derived from the thesis of religious deinstitutionalization. In the second and third part, we intend to explore empirically the trajectories constructed through musical and literary consumption.

The aim of this paper is to elaborate a systematic critique of the theory of complex systems (TSC) developed by Rolando Garcia. The strategic goal of this task is to contribute to the development of the TSC as an interdisciplinary research program on complex systems from a social and political perspective. The paper sketches out nine criticisms to TSC. For each criticism we offer a conceptual problematization of an aspect of the TSC and we suggest a hypothetical way for its treatment.

This paper seeks to analyze how the practice of sociology can impact over the society’s structuring, being (with its specific knowledge) a moment of the disruption of the mechanisms that (re)produce the social domination. So, to achieve this goal, this paper studies the Bourdieu’s proposal of socio-analysis, since this is one of the main instances through it which sociology can produce that disruption. For this, it is analyzed first the characterization that this author makes of the symbolic dimension. In base of all of this, this paper points out the scholastic logic that remains in the Bourdieu’s socio-analysis and proposes, instead of that, a different way through it which the practice of sociology can be disruptive of the social domination. This proposal is based on Bourdieu’s concept of “symbolic subversion”.

This paper aims to unravel the formation of an eco-technocratic device behind the "techno-ecological practices" of some integrated agro-food producers. These practices are based on technologies that operate articulating power relations of these actors in connection to world agro-foods markets. The article has an interpretive emphasis and is based on analysis of information generated from in-depth interviews to businessmen of the wine, canning, oil and livestock industries with international commercial links and located in the oasis of the Mendoza river in Argentina. Throughout the paper we analyze certain "techno-ecological practices" and how they are embedded into a specific device that locates and differentiates these entrepreneurs not only in international markets, but also before State and society.

espanolEste articulo expone algunos cambios y permanencias de elementos culturales y practicas sociales en la atmosfera cultural trans femenina de la Ciudad de Mexico. Se da cuenta de estos procesos a traves de tres relatos de interlocutoras reconstruidos a partir de los metodos etnografico, documental y biografico. Las narrativas permiten notar permanencias y transformaciones en dos campos: las formas de organizacion colectiva y el tipo de recursos para la comunicacion y expresion de las identidades de genero. Es posible distinguir dos etapas con usos diferenciados de los recursos culturales que las personas trans femeninas utilizan para configurar y expresar su identidad de genero en algunas sociabilidades urbanas de la Ciudad de Mexico. EnglishIn this paper I analize some changes and permanences of cultural elements and social practices of the trans femenine cultural atmosphere of Mexico City. This text gives some light about these processes by three life stories reconstructed with documental, biographical and ethnographic methods. These narratives allow us to notice transformations and permanence in two important fields: the shapes of collective organization and the type of resources for communication and expression of gender identities. It is possible to distinguish two phases with differential uses of these cultural resources that trans femenine persons use to configure and express their gender identity in some urban sociabilities in Mexico City.

espanolEn este articulo presento una critica a la representacion comun de los linchamientos que conforma una vision espasmodica, mecanica, de la accion de los sectores populares frente a la inseguridad. Esta imagen establece distintos limites analiticos y explicativos para la comprension. Ademas, se sostiene en la invisibilizacion de diferentes formas de respuesta popular (violentas y no-violentas) y reproduce una vision colonial sobre los sujetos populares. En distintos analisis recientes en America Latina, diversos elementos que conforman esta representacion mecanica de los linchamientos han sido criticados y desmontados para permitirnos asi un entendimiento mas complejo. No obstante, es posible identificar alguna debilidad comun en dichos analisis: la poca preocupacion por la especificidad de las diferentes logicas de la violencia que se agrupan bajo el termino de linchamiento. Frente a este problema, me acerco al concepto de economia moral de la violencia y exploro algunas de sus dimensiones y posibilidades de analisis. EnglishThis article provides a critique of the common representation of lynchings as a spasmodic and mechanical vision of the actions of popular sectors in the face of insecurity. Not only does this representation establish analytical and explanatory limits for understanding, but, in addition, it reproduces colonial representations of popular subjects and is sustained by making invisible alternative forms of popular responses (violent and non-violent). Recent studies in Latin America have criticized and dismantled various elements of this mechanical representation of lynchings, thereby allowing a more complex understanding of. Nevertheless, it is still possible to identify a common weakness in these analyses: the lack of concern for the specificity of different logics of violence grouped under the term lynching. With this in mind, this paper considers the analytical applicability of the concept of the moral economy of violence in exploring problem.

The article provides an analysis of three emotion management strategies in collective action. From the analysis of in-depth interviews with a Mexican group that is defending a forest, we will present the role of emotion management to avoid activists’ burnout. This article will analyze the management of fears, which has found greater attention in the analysis of collective action in repressive contexts, but also how the subjects handle powerlessness and hopelessness. The aim of this paper is to contribute to understanding the role of emotion management in social movements, showing how emotions are central elements in the arena of political struggle.

This paper presents a classification of the different types of violence to which doctors are exposed during training and professional practice. Actors alien to the medical field exert external violence, whereas practitioners, paramedical personnel and patients exert internal violence. The later can be hegemonic (when produced by authorities and doctors in power positions) or contra-hegemonic (if it defies such power structures). The hypothesis is that doctors maintain a relation of sociological ambivalence regarding the different types of violence to which they are exposed during their professional practice. This allows them to be very critical against external violence, and, at the same time, to normalize internal violence and take it as part of the profession. This ambivalence is illustrated with a series of empirical examples.

In this paper we evaluate the impact that a specific area in individuals’ lives- their job or occupation – has over their satisfaction with life in general and specifically with their labor activity. We analyze the working life of the participants in the labor force in Mexico on the basis of four fundamental dimensions: sector of employment (formal sector/informal sector), type of employment (formal employment/informal employment), relation with the means of production (owners/employees), and type of activity (white collar/blue collar). With data from the National Survey of Household Expenditure (ENGASTO) carried out in 2012 by the Statistics National Institute (INEGI), we found that - controlling for income, age, education and other relevant variables – working in the formal sector as well as being formally employed have a positive impact over the level of satisfaction with life and with work; being self-employed impacts negatively on both types of satisfaction, while being a white or blue collar participant in the work force, does not significantly influence life or work satisfaction.

This paper attempts to show the socio-structural conditions that lead families to become a social group that increases the risk of law infractions among adolescents. In particular, the research analyzes the influence of precarious work market conditions and domestic violence on the material and immaterial care that the family referents provide to the adolescents in conflict with the law. The research is conducted via a qualitative research design consisting on interviews to family referents (mothers, fathers, grandmothers) of the adolescents sanctioned by justice and interviews to judicial operators of the adolescent’s justice system in Mexico City.

The double contingency represents a key concept in Niklas Luhmann’s theory of social systems by giving rise to a new treatment of the problem of social order. From its consideration, it is possible to explain social order without blocking the contingency of both individual action and social structures. However, something that has remained out of discussion is precisely what concept of “order” is implied in the author's proposal. In principle, we identify a frequently assumed conception of order in social theory, which is related to the limitation (or conditioning) of individual action/communication/selection. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that the double contingency would also allow us to problematize and redefine this conception.

This paper analyzes the development of labor conditions at Mexico’s Volkswagen plant, as well as the strategies of the Union’s Executive Committees to influence them during the time frame that goes from 2000 to 2015. My main thesis is that the union actions are the cause that explains the workers’ prerogatives evolution in that transnational. The study identifies three sub-cycles during this period: in the first one, the wages and prerogatives grow; in the second one, the amount of hired workers and their income raise; and in the third one, the workforce, wages and social benefits also rise. This research is based on in-depth interviews with workers and union leaders; we also analyzed Collective Bargaining Agreements and the Union Statutes, as well as documental research.

How people who have not been victims of human rights violations become human rights defenders? This paper studies the process of identity construction among human rights defenders in Mexico. The process has three traits: the formation of initial intuitions about justice that makes them reject situations of social inequality and abuse of authority; a breaking point that leads them to devote to human rights defense as a way of life; and a consolidation process as human rights activists.

The article focused on two historiographic models that are on the basis of the controversy about the argentine history, when at the end of the 2001 crisis a set of books about his past, whose authors present marginal backgrounds or outside the academic world and the historiography that endorse as historians, mediate the recovery of public interest in the past, leading to what some interpreted as “a boom in history”. The paper provides arguments for understand the uneven answers that public gives to amateurs and professional of the History and from the analysis suggests that both fees are not set up as opposites because they differ only in rhetorical, format and/or methodological aspects, but there are also traditions that each of them are debtors and images of history guide that work for them, explaining the differences between the two conceptions of how to do history.

Generally, international migration is associated with family separation and dispersion. In this vein, the article analyzes the extension and volume of divided families in Nuevo León, Zacatecas, Puebla, and Jalisco. For achieving this purpose, it uses data provided by representative samples of children and adolescents enrolled in elementary and middle high schools (n = 39 633) of these states. In a context of militarized borders and deportations, the paper offers a contemporary picture of the impact of international migration on family’s separation in Mexico. It shows also interstates and interregional differences. As a conclusion of this comparative analysis, the article gives an idea about the variety of regions in Mexico in terms of family separation. Family division is far to be generalized all over the country.

In the last decade, the studies on return migrants’ social re-insertion to Mexico and others Latin American countries have become relevant. Although the volume of return migrants to home countries has increased, such academic relevance responds to interest in studying the individual and social implications of incorporation process. The return migrants in home countries live a similar challenge to that they lived when arrived to destination societies. In spite of social networks, to get inserting in society requires re-adaptation, adjustment of expectations and negotiation of relationship codes in both home countries and abroad. This paper presents some theoretical and methodological notes related to a research focuses on subjective dimensions of return migrants’ reinsertion process to urban spaces in home countries. The point of departure is to analyze practices, senses and action turns of return migrants in two dimensions of the experience: re-insertion/ re-emigration and location/mobility.

This article analyzes the institutional transformations of some Islamic institutions in contemporary Argentina, emphasizing the relationship between different “ways of being” in the national arena and local religious field and the Identity projects of these groups. We start from recognizing the reconfiguration of the Islamic religion that during the first decades of the twentieth century was a ethnicized religion in the context of Arab immigration, but now is a religion in a pluralistic religious field that gradually admits the presence of converts. At the same time, this paper examines the emergence of new institutions created in the 80s, in order to analyze how some Sunni and Shiite communities negotiate their insertion and visibility in the public space and local religious field.

This paper addresses the return to school among youngsters in Mexico City that had dropped out of school at some point between the beginning of elementary school and the end of upper secondary level. More than a quarter of these youngsters returned to school, which supports the idea that quitting school does not equal to the end of the educational career. There is a significant association between the socioeconomic origin and the probability of an individual returning to school, although weaker (and in the opposite direction) than correlation with the probability of dropping out. Complex, non-linear patterns were found between the return and the moment when the drop out occurred, which questions mainstream theories about educational decisions. It was also found that an important proportion of those who returned to school completed upper secondary education, particularly remarkable among youngsters of lower social origins. The evidence supports the idea of considering both the effects of the social structure and the individual agency, and particularly to take into account the actors’ rationality.

In order to explore the relationship between political violence and social protest, this paper deals with the subject matter from the theoretical perspective of the political process and the mobilization of resources in a case study: the alterglobalist mobilizations in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco in the context of the III Summit of the Heads of State and Government of Latin America, Europe and the Caribbean (alcuE) in May of 2004. Through a qualitative research design, it analyzes the complex interrelationship between the organizations and globalist collectives, their cultural frames and history of contention, and the dynamics of the local political process, in order to understand how these factors influenced the dynamics of the protest events and conditioned the episodes of political violence in its two main forms: physical and symbolic.

This paper approaches the way to understand women’s identities from diverse territorial units departing from the way they use and perceive time. We focus on women living in neighboring territorial units, but with many dissimilarities: towns absorbed by the city, popular neighborhoods and middle-class neighborhoods. The article describes the theoretical-methodological frame used to approach time and the temporal dimension. A gender perspective is emphasized, since time use patterns are strongly linked to the idea of being a man or a woman. In addition, markers of generational and social class also have an influence on how time is used.

Subjective well-being has been described as perhaps “the ultimate dependent variable” of the social sciences. Thus, it is understandable that much of the empirical research on the subject has focused on the identification of its correlates. In this paper we utilize the sixth wave of the World Value Survey carried out in sixty countries between 2010 and 2014, to evaluate the relationship between different types of political participation and the subjective well-being of citizens, Our research partially confirms the hypothesis that, when controlling for the democratic or undemocratic character of political institutions, conventional political participation is positively and significantly associated with life satisfaction, while unconventional conflictive political activities show the opposite relationship to well-being. On the other hand, the democratic nature of state institutions is universally and consistently related to higher levels of personal well-being among individuals.

This paper describes the emergent tango´s revitalization in Buenos Aires during the 90s and the cultural expressions created by young people in response to the crisis of 2001. Tango, crisis and youth shape a process that begins in that decade, blows up in 2001 and spreads in different forms thereafter. The social, political and economic conditions during the 90s must be considered to understand the meaning and sense of the cultural practices organized around tango by young people, a social group crossed by particular epochal markers in its subjective constitution. They will express in tango their generational experience, articulating a reinvented tradition.

This research note presents theoretical developments of a Dissertation Thesis currently being developed at the Doctorate in Social Sciences with a major in Sociology of El Colegio de México. The dissertation’s general topic is the construction of spaces and the implementation of sexual practices carried out as illegal forms of corporal uses within a prison. In this paper, sexuality is interpreted as a political field that reveals tensions, power relations, gender mandates and lawful and unlawful uses of the body. The context of detention reveals a series of transgressions, accommodations, breaks and space-time fractures, where sexuality becomes the privileged field allowing such fissures.

The Brazilian electrical sector, with a predominant hydric matrix, generates social and environmental impacts, among which stands out the compulsory displacement of local populations. The de-territorialization and re-territorialization caused by hydroelectric plants produce a process characterized by “multiterritorialization” of conflict. This paper discusses this conflict, which involves consortiums of construction companies and the Movement of People Affected by Dams (MAB), as a contesting movement. The objective is to analyze to what extent resettlements produced by the construction of hydroelectric dams and organized by MAB potentiate actions against future constructions. Combining qualitative research with quantitative data, we present the case of the Uruguay basin, in order to demonstrate that, although they represent empowerment points, the potential of resettlements must be relativized from the standpoint of a broader social process.

Subnational studies in Mexico have pointed out the huge power of governors and the weakness of local Congresses in the design of budget policy. However, it is important to provide more evidence on the Congresses’s performance to attain a better understanding of this situation. Based on a case study of the Mexican state of Jalisco, the purposes of this paper are: a) to present empirical evidence on the exercise of budgetary functions; b) to explore whether the government status has an effect on the Congress behavior and its relationship with the Executive branch; and c) to establish the impact of ammendments on budget policies.

Yucatan stands out as the federal state with the highest percentage of indigenous population where the Procede program was better accepted, but where ejidatarios decided to maintain the common lands without division. The opposition to ejido lands division in this context has been interpreted by many analysts as an indigenous resistance to privatization of ejido lands and more broadly to the modernization project launched with Article 27 reform. The objective of this paper is threefold: first to identify other factors besides the ethnic component, that combined may explain the specific responses ejidatarios in Yucatan gave to Procede. Second, to explore the variety of responses given by Yucatan ejidatarios to this program, which includes not only resistance but collaboration. Finally, my aim is to show that contrary to the expectations of program designers and more broadly of the 1992 Land reform Law promoters, one of the Program unforeseen results has been the emergence, within ejidos, of new types of irregular and illegal practices.

Migratory movements have been increasingly the subject of analyzes from different perspectives in contemporary times. In this paper, we present the results of a survey of Brazilian and African women, living in Portugal, concerning their integration in the country and the conditions of their sexual and reproductive health, considering the status of migrants. The aim is to present some reflections on the health conditions of migrants, from the perspective of the social sciences and, in particular, women who were subjects of research. Therefore, focus groups were organized in Portugal with Brazilian and African migrant women and, from these, there were important evidence related to the topics mentioned. These testimonials are part of the body of the text and indicate relevant issues and worrying about the complexity and the impacts that involve migratory movements.

Usually, the experience of living in the streets is associated with homeless people but other groups inherently related are forgotten such as police, gangs, neighbors and etcetera. The aim of this paper is to characterize the relationships that exist between the different groups who are involved, directly or indirectly, in the dynamics of homelessness. Adults who live in the streets (ALS) were interviewed during the field work that finished with the writing of the phd thesis. In the network of relationships that is woven around homelessness is important to talk about the presence of the Big Other (the rest of society that does not sleep on the streets) and how the adults who live in the streets build closeness and intimacy while keeping distances with Big Other; sympathies and conflicts.

Based on a qualitative research in two public institutions care, this article discusses some of the tactics used by children placed to weather the relations with the authorities, avoid certain tasks and appropriate the space organized according to their needs and certain explicit resistance to indicate their disagreement with personnel actions they consider unfair. The text recognizes the creativity of children, so it takes up the theoretical contributions of De Certeau, Goffman and Moore to account, by way of example, both the logic that each point as the time when the handled. The paper concludes with three ideas that resemble the characteristics of these tactics and resistances and the ability of children.

This paper explores the legal conflicts for the public space in Mexico City. Specifically, it seeks to explain how judges have participated in the legal constitution of specific limits and rules in order to regulate the people’s right to work on the street. The analysis here presented suggests the existence of, at least, three different types of conflicts through which the judicial system has participated in the determination of certain limits, uses and functions of the public space; and, it also, highlights the way in which a particular set of juridical actors have imagined particular ways for regulating the Mexico city’s streets.

The various hereditary forms of the generational transition have been the motive of intense debates in the Social Sciences in general and in Rural Sociology in particular, not only for agriculture in advanced countries but also in regions in development. In the Argentinian pampa region these processes suffered important transformations. On the one hand, these went from inheriting a trade to inheriting a high value real state. On the other hand, these were modifications in household dynamics linked to the existence of greater degrees of “democratization” in the relations between gender and generations. The main objective of this paper is to get to know the processes of change that the families involved went through regarding the succession, not just in what refers to transit among generations but also in the way in which it is distributed among the heirs.

This paper discusses the value contents of the legislative production and the discursive emissions of the Brazilian parliamentary elite between 1989 and 2006. The aims are to understand, from the résumés of the projects sent by members of the parliamentary elite of that term, and from their speeches about Brazilian politics and the political being of Brazil, in what ways different sociocultural nuances interfere with the construction and consolidation process of their careers and identities as politicians. The content analysis and the volume of initiative proposals by elite Parliament Members, as well as their discursive emissions about their performances as legislators, reveal that their respective regional ethos significantly model their practices and representations of Brazilian politics and of the political being in Brazil. These results reaffirm the perspective that political phenomena are charged with multiple uses and meanings, and in order to apprehend their complexity and relevance it requires interpretations that would also acknowledge for the importance of the field of values and of subjective assessment by social actors about their actions and political institutions. The analysis of Brazilian political life, from a sociocultural cutback, allowed for the construction of the original faction of the leading members of the Legislative Power, exposing a yet not much explored side of our political system.

This paper presents the econometric results that validate the relevance of an election campaign on the elector’s preferences change among the candidates. The preferences are defined from the declared voting intentions from two rounds of an enquiry panel on the 2006 Mexican presidential elections. The estimated models support the hypothesis that local influence (political discussion networks) and the media influence (television’s audience, debates, negative campaigns) have a statistically significant impact on the voter’s preferences. Furthermore, it is shown that the impact on the change of the preferences is differentiated, whereas the social networks, media and partisan ideology/identity influence the very different forms for the adherents of the various candidates.

This paper addresses the problem of re-signification comprehended as a societal category according to the theoretical frame of Niklas Luhmanns systems theory, adopting as background the political dynamics between the new social movements (designated protest movements) and the official mechanisms for the making of collective binding decisions (procedures). Taken together, protest movements and procedures shape a paradoxical logic which puts in check the prospective of social change. A second order observation capable of apprehending the joint development of these phenomena in their reciprocal determinations allows a description of the ways in which social conflicts are re-signified in favor of the functionally differentiated society.

This paper looks into the relationship between crime against property and labor markets. Drawing on various sources, the author analyzes the hypothesis that weaknesses in labor markets spur a surge in criminality, and he specially tests the hypothesis that unemployed people are those who commit most crimes against property. Based on aggregated data about tendencies in Mexico, and more specifi cally using data from surveys of prison population, it is shown that a majority of those who commit more crimes also work regularly. An econometric estimate identifi es some of the factors explaining to what extent these criminals can be called “professional criminals”. It

The paper analyzes, from a historical perspective, conditions and characteristics of Brazilian’s software and IT services policy from the military governments to the recent period, trying to understand its conformation and connection to the industrial and science and technology policies and its participating actors. Through literature review, it was observed that, during the military period, the instruments and objectives of an industrial policy was prevalent in information technology policy. The software policy and it services in the 1990s prioritized external competitiveness and export of private enterprises. In the 2000s, except for two programs, the policy had general support measures for R&D in enterprises and university-industry relationship. Recently, the it Maior Program was created, focusing on software and it services industry, with S&T policy features and integrated with industrial policy instruments.

Native references and academic literature agree to characterize the production and appreciation of dance music as an aesthetic phenomenon aimed at building dance music events characterized by freedom, liberation, expression, social inclusion and tolerance. Raves, clubs, parties and electronic festivals dance are valued for djs and dancers to be social gatherings constructed from synergy between musical practice and dance practices not choreographed since in these dance floors participants and the technologies involved (lights, music, drugs, digital technologies) are articulated, merge and involve each other. Thus, in these contexts, plural practices and different dance are enabled as effective and communicative hands off instances of the word spoken between musicians and audiences. From an ethnographic description that characterizes the dance floor and problematizes the relationship between spoken word and movement in these social and musical contexts, this paper analyzes and interrogates constructions of meaning around these practices dance patterns absent practices and evaluations choreographic to discuss the modalities of processing the difference, heterogeneity and individuals of this socio-aesthetic phenomenon social exclusion.

This paper discusses the working agency of the third sector from a methodological approach supported in the Sociology of the Professions. We conducted a methodological overview of our object and field, passed to a resumption of the main theoretical influences suffered by the sociology of professions from the functionalist. We discussed one of the main dilemmas of contemporary sociology, the agency and structure, discussing how such seemingly abstract and theoretical implications are indispensable to the understanding of an empirical agency in the NGO world. Below is an overview of the perception of the people that work to the third sector, analyzing the voluntary sector and showing empirically some of the major limitations of applying the sociology of professions, when viewed from practical and flexible in changing reality cases.

Works on social inequality in Latin America have mainly studied the inequality of condition, apart from the mechanisms that contribute to the persistence of inequality over time. It has been suggested that to identify these mechanisms it is necessary to analyze the inequality of opportunities, in other words, how gaps of origin in social circumstances become socially heterogeneous destinations. Based on the life course perspective, in this paper I explore the magnitude of the effects of the social circumstances of origin of a set of educational and occupational outcomes occurred during the phase of the course of life known as school-work transition (age when leaving school, years of schooling, age of entry to work, and social class of entry to work). The analysis indicates that even in an environment with higher relative abundance of opportunities as Mexico City, it remains a close association between social origins inequality and inequality in these outcomes, even after controlling for a number of sociodemographic variables. These results help to highlight the importance of the transition from school to work as a crucial stage in the process of intergenerational transmission of inequality over the life course.

From a discussion of the Maradona goal known as “the hand of God”, the aim of this paper is to present the theoretical problems of the relationship between rules and moral rules in fi gurational sociology.

In 2011 the Yucatecan congress passed an indigenous rights law. In this paper, we argue that multicultural reforms promulgated in Yucatan to date are the result of top down pressures at the national level that have pushed state legislators to move in the area of indigenous rights. The multicultural reforms in Yucatán are not the result of grassroot pressure. Notwithstanding the presence of some indigenous Maya organizations in Yucatan, there is no broad-based ethnic movement in the state. We present an argument here for the absence of an indigenous movement in Yucatán focused on the particularity of peasant leagues, the conservative nature of the Catholic Church, and the limited reach of non-governmental organizations.

This paper proposes to understand both political participation and civic participation according to Robert A. Dahl’s theory of democracy. It develops a conceptual framework that differentiates them, and which is intended to contribute to their explanation through the configuration of institutional arrangements. The driving idea is the notion that there is a structure of incentives for participation, which is defined by different types of formal and informal rules, which are modified in democratization periods. Participation levels vary not only due to political culture variables, but also because of the institutional context, which plays a great role. Even though democracy is an ideal, poliarchies may approach it as civil and political freedoms associated with participation expand in breadth.

This paper thematizes the performative components proposed by Luhmann’s General Social Systems Theory, Latour’s Actor-Network Theory and Habermas’s Communicative Action Theory which have the purpose to generate a Paradigm Shift in Sociology. Our hypothesis is that those performative components have points of divergence, but also of convergence. The latter are observed in the programmatical strategies of differentiation and articulation against the “crisis of Sociology” in the disciplinary context of Eighties and Nineties.

The article focuses on the study of the processes of labor discipline in Argentine subsidiaries of large corporations. We argue that these processes are related to corporate pedagogical devices that extend inside the factory and beyond its borders. Specifically we delve into the complex linkages between the consolidation of corporate hegemony and corporate pedagogical devices. Thus, we study these various complex and linked devices that enable the corporate doctrine’s transpositions to everyday work. The paper provides conceptual and empirical advances and presents findings from research conducted in a steel and automotive company, according to a qualitative perspective and multiple case study methodology. We analyze the consolidated corporate systems and we highlight the central role of corporate training and the formation of collaborative and competes / competitive employees in its implementation. Similarly, we emphasize the extension of corporate systems in the extra-productive scenarios through Corporate Social Responsibility practices.

The research from which is derived the present research note aims to understand the way in which Mexican engineering students choose destinations of doctoral training (national or abroad). Thereby, I try to study two processes that converge in this decision: educational transitions in this level of education and leaving the country for academic purposes. This implies one of the main research challenges: developing an analytical model to link the two processes, and at the same time, realize the elements and actors involved in the decision and the ways in which they relate. The purpose of this paper is to shows the elements of this model, elucidating its construction and the assumptions underlying.
