Abstract

The main goal of the NICA/MPD facility is a study of the properties of hot and dense baryonic matter. One of the possible ways of doing this is to study strangeness production in nuclear collisions. The enhanced production of strange particles in heavy-ion collisions is considered to be a signal for the quark-gluon plasma formation. In this paper the MPD detector abilities to measure different hypernuclei species in Au+Au collisions at NICA energy region are presented.

Abstract

Cross sections for compound-nuclear reactions involving unstable targets are important for many applications, but can often not be measured directly. Several indi- rect methods have recently been proposed to determine neutron capture cross sections for unstable isotopes. We consider three approaches that aim at constraining statistical calculations of capture cross sections with data obtained from the decay of the compound nucleus relevant to the desired reaction. Each method produces this compound nucleus in ad ifferent manner (via a light-ion reaction, a photon-induced reaction, or β-decay) and requires additional ingredients to yield the sought-after cross section. We give a brief outline of the approaches and employ preliminary results from recent measurements to illustrate the methods. We discuss the main advantages and challenges of each approach.

Abstract

The study of final-state interactions in exclusive hyperon photoproduction off the deuteron is a promising approach to extract information about the hyperon-nucleon (YN) interaction. First preliminary results on the azimuthal asymmetry ∑, as well as the polarization transfer coeffcients Ox, Oz, Cx, and Cz for the reaction γd → K+ Λn initiated with linearly and circularly polarized photon beam are presented. The data were taken with the CLAS detector in Hall B of Jefferson Lab during the E06-103 experiment. The large kinematic coverage of the CLAS, combined with the exceptionally high quality of the experimental data, allows identifying and selecting final-state interaction events to extract single- and double-polarization observables and their kinematical dependencies.

Abstract

Lifetimes of excited states of the 98;100;102Zr nuclei were measured by using the Generalized Centroid Difference Method. The nuclei of interest were populated via neutron-induced fission of 241Pu and 235U during the EXILL-FATIMA campaign. The obtained lifetimes were used to calculate the B(E2) transition strengths and β deformation parameters which were then compared with the recent theoretical predictions obtained with Monte Carlo Shell Model.

Abstract

Subject of investigation is a new high-powered strontium bromide (SrBr2) vapor laser emitting in multiline region of wavelengths. The laser is an alternative to the atom strontium lasers and electron free lasers, especially at the line 6.45 μm which line is used in surgery for medical processing of biological tissues and bones with minimal damage. In this paper the experimental data from measurements of operational and output characteristics of the laser are statistically processed by means of cluster analysis and tree-based regression techniques. The aim is to extract the more important relationships and dependences from the available data which influence the increase of the overall laser efficiency. There are constructed and analyzed a set of cluster models. It is shown by using different cluster methods that the seven investigated operational characteristics (laser tube diameter, length, supplied electrical power, and others) and laser efficiency are combined in 2 clusters. By the built regression tree models using Classification and Regression Trees (CART) technique there are obtained dependences to predict the values of efficiency, and especially the maximum efficiency with over 95% accuracy.

Abstract

At the PF1B cold neutron beam line at the Institut Laue Langevin, the EXILL array consisting of EXOGAM, GASP and ILL-Clover detectors was used to perform (n,$\gamma$) measurements at very high coincidence rates. About ten different reactions were measured in autumn 2012 using a highly collimated cold neutron beam. In spring 2013, the EXOGAM array was combined with 16 LaBr3(Ce) scintillators in the EXILL&FATIMA campaign for the measurement of lifetimes using the generalised centroid difference method. We report on the properties of the set-ups and present first results from both campaigns.

4 pags., 2 figs. -- INPC 2013 – International Nuclear Physics Conference, The investigation of the excitation energies of the 21+ –states in the neutron-rich Cd isotopes shows an irregular behaviour when approaching the neutron shell-closure at N = 82. The energy of the 21+–state in 128Cd is lower than the one in 126Cd. The transition strength B(E2, 0gs+ → 21+) in the even isotopes 122−128Cd was measured in Coulomb excitation experiments with the high-purity germanium detector array MINIBALL at REXISOLDE (CERN). Abstract

This study aims to extract the polarization observables Cx, Cz, ∑, Ox, and Oz for final-state interactions (FSI) in γ→d→K+Λ→n$\overrightarrow \gamma d \to {K^ + }\overrightarrow \Lambda n$. The data were taken with the CEBAF Large Acceptance Spectrometer (CLAS) at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab) during the E06-103 experiment. These are the very first results for FSI observables in hyperon photoproduction and are expected to constrain the free parameters of YN potentials. This work is funded in part by the U.S. NSF under grant PHY-125782.

Abstract

This is an Open Access article distributed under the terms of the Creative Common Attribution Licence 4.0 which permits unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.; International audience; A novel method for direct electronic "fast-timing" lifetime measurements of nuclear excited statesvia γ-γ coincidences using an array equipped with N very fast high-resolution LaBr3(Ce) scintillator detectorsis presented. The generalized centroid difference method provides two independent “start” and “stop” timespectra obtained without any correction by a superposition of the N(N − 1)/2 calibrated γ-γ time differencespectra of the N detector fast-timing system. The two fast-timing array time spectra correspond to a forwardand reverse gating of a specific γ-γ cascade and the centroid difference as the time shift between the centroidsof the two time spectra provides a picosecond-sensitive mirror-symmetric observable of the set-up. The energydependentmean prompt response difference between the start and stop events is calibrated and used as a singlecorrection for lifetime determination. These combined fast-timing array mean γ-γ zero-time responses can bedetermined for 40 keV < Eγ < 1.4 MeV with a precision better than 10 ps using a 152Eu γ-ray source. Thenew method is described with examples of (n,γ) and (n,f,γ) experiments performed at the intense cold-neutronbeam facility PF1B of the Institut Laue-Langevin in Grenoble, France, using 16 LaBr3(Ce) detectors withinthe EXILL&FATIMA campaign in 2013. The results are discussed with respect to possible systematic errorsinduced by background contributions.

Within this campaign experiment NP1112-RIBF85 was performed dedicated to the study of the isomeric and beta decays of neutronrich Cd, In, Sn and Sb isotopes towards and beyond the N=82 neutron shell closure. Abstract

The investigation of the excitation energies of the 21+ –states in the neutron-rich Cd isotopes shows an irregular behaviour when approaching the neutron shell-closure at N = 82. The energy of the 21+–state in 128Cd is lower than the one in 126Cd. The transition strength B(E2, 0gs+ → 21+) in the even isotopes 122−128Cd was measured in Coulomb excitation experiments with the high-purity germanium detector array MINIBALL at REXISOLDE (CERN). The values for 122,124Cd coincide with beyond-mean-field calculations with a resultant prolate deformation, whereas 126,128Cd are better described by shell-model calculations.
