The growth of China's OFDI (outward foreign direct investment) is a unique feature of the "Belt and Road" project. Does China's OFDI have a green halo effect on countries along the Belt and Road (B&R)? Is this green halo effect somehow asymmetrical? What is the underlying mechanism? This paper systematically examines how China's OFDI exerts its influence on green technology spillovers, based on 56 B&R countries' 2003-2019 panel data. This study makes three significant findings: Firstly, China's OFDI has positive asymmetric characteristics in promoting green technology spillovers to host countries mentioned, which have lower income levels and openness. Secondly, strict relative environmental regulation can act as a "pressure pool," significantly enhancing the "green halo effect"; Thirdly, China's OFDI can help host countries obtain more green technology spillovers through three channels: expanding host countries' economic scale, upgrading host countries' industrial structure, and suppressing host countries' use of non-renewable energy. Public health problems caused by toxic elements in mining areas have always been an important topic worldwide. However, existing studies have focused on single exposure routes and common toxic elements, which might underestimate the risks faced by residents. In this study, three typical mining areas in central China were selected to assess the health risks of 14 potentially toxic elements through five exposure routes using Monte Carlo simulations. The results indicated that the 95th percentile non-carcinogenic risk values to humans via rice and vegetable ingestion ranged from 9.8 to 26.0 and 6.2 to 19.0. The corresponding carcinogenic risks ranged from 1.4E-2 to 6.3E-2 and from 2.9E-3 to 2.3E-2, respectively. Therefore, residents face serious health risks. Multi-element analysis showed that cadmium (Cd), boron (B), and arsenic (As) were the main contributors to rice non-carcinogenicity, whereas Cd and nickel (Ni) were the main elements of rice carcinogenicity. B and lead (Pb) played an essential role in the non-carcinogenesis of vegetables, and B, Ni, and Cd played an essential role in carcinogenesis. Accidental ingestion is the main route of soil exposure. In these three areas, the probability of non-carcinogenic risk faced by adults was 40%, 0%, and 1%, respectively, while the probabilities for children were 100%, 62%, and 83%, respectively. Regarding carcinogenicity, the risk for both adults and children was up to 100%. This study emphasizes the overall health risks in polluted areas via multi-route and multi-element analysis. The enrichment of heavy metals in the soil-rice system is affected by various factors, which hampers the prediction of heavy metal concentrations. In this research, a prediction model (CNN-HM) of heavy metal concentrations in rice was constructed based on convolutional neural network (CNN) technology and 17 environmental factors. For comparison, other machine learning models, such as multiple linear regression, Bayesian ridge regression, support vector machine, and backpropagation neural networks, were applied. Furthermore, the LH-OAT method was used to evaluate the sensitivity of CNN-HM to each environmental factor. The results showed that the R 2 values of CNN-HM for Cd, Pb, Cr, As, and Hg were 0.818, 0.709, 0.688, 0.462, and 0.816, respectively, and both the MAE and RMAE values were acceptable. The sensitivity analysis showed that the concentrations of Cd and Pb, mechanical composition, soil pH, and altitude were the main sensitive features for CNN-HM. Compared with CNN-HM based on all input features, the performance of the quick prediction model that was based on the sensitive features did not degrade significantly, thereby indicating that CNN-HM has stronger stability and robustness. The quick prediction model has extensive application value for timely prediction of the enrichment of heavy metals in emergencies. The potential impact of exposure to toxic elements in rice on human health has become a global public health issue. This study analyzed the pollution characteristics and probabilistic health risks of exposure to iAs, Pb, Cd, Cr, and Hg in rice produced in a typical multi-mining county using Monte Carlo simulation, a geographic information system, and bioavailability analysis. The results showed that the enrichment of As and Cd was prominent in rice, with mean tAs, iAs, and Cd contents of 0.34 ± 0.20, 0.15 ± 0.09, and 0.48 ± 0.50 mg·kg -1 , respectively. The probability of non-carcinogenic risk via rice consumption in adults and children exceeding the threshold was 72% and 78%, respectively, and that of carcinogenic risk was as high as 100%. Among toxic elements, Cd and iAs were the main risk factors for health risks. The high-level health-risk areas mainly occurred in the north-eastern and central parts of the study area. Sensitivity analysis highlighted that the top three influential parameters for non-carcinogenic risk in adults were Content(Cd), Content(iAs), and Bioaccessibility(Cd), whereas those in children were ingestion rate of rice, Content(Cd), and Content(iAs). The Content(Cd) was the decisive factor for carcinogenic risk, with a sensitivity coefficient of 78.0% in adults and 64.7% in children. In this work, the Fenton preoxidation and composite coagulant method was used to carry out the rapid dewatering experiment of Chaohu Lake (China) dredging slurry. The changes in extracellular polymeric substances (EPS), particle size distribution, zeta potential, specific resistance to filtration (SRF), and capillary suction time (CST) of the dredging slurry were characterized. The results showed that the molar ratio of H 2 O 2 and Fe 2+ had the greatest effect on the dewatering of dredging slurry by Fenton preoxidation. The coagulant selected through the coagulation test was polyaluminum ferric chloride. The model simulated by the response surface method exhibited significant adaptability and high accuracy (p < 0.01, R 2  = 0.9461, accuracy is 12.115). Fenton preoxidation resulted in the transformation of tightly bound EPS to soluble EPS. After preoxidation-coagulation treatment, the dewatering performance of the slurry improved significantly. The EPS quantity rose by 20.3%, while the SRF (3.65 × 10 9 s 2 /g), CST (71.25 s), and zeta potential (- 28.0 mV) shifted to 0.33 × 10 9 s 2 /g, 27.60 s, and - 14.9 mV, respectively. The disintegration of EPS by Fenton peroxidation and the subsequent adsorption bridging and charge neutralization through coagulation were the key mechanism for improving the dewatering performance of the dredging slurry., (© 2024. In the petroleum sector, the generation of oily sludge is an unavoidable byproduct, necessitating the development of efficient treatment strategies for both economic gain and the mitigation of negative environmental impacts. The intricate composition of oily sludge poses a formidable challenge, as existing treatment methodologies frequently fall short of achieving baseline disposal criteria. The processes of demulsification and dehydration are integral to diminishing the oil content and reclaiming valuable crude oil, thereby playing a critical role in the management of oily sludge. Among the myriad of treatment solutions, ultrasonic technology has emerged as a particularly effective physical method, celebrated for its diverse applications and lack of resultant secondary pollution. This comprehensive review delves into the underlying mechanisms and recent progress in the ultrasonic treatment of oily sludge, with a specific focus on its industrial implementations within China. Both isolated ultrasonic treatment and its combination with other technological approaches have proven successful in addressing oily sludge challenges. The adoption of industrial-scale systems that amalgamate ultrasound with multi-technological processes has shown marked enhancements in treatment efficacy. The fusion of ultrasonic technology with other cutting-edge methods holds considerable potential across a spectrum of applications. The problem of imbalanced urban-rural development in China is becoming increasingly serious. Urban-rural integration (URI) is an inevitable way to narrow the urban-rural gap and promote rural development. The Yellow River Basin (YRB) is an important barrier to China's ecological security and plays a crucial role in promoting ecological protection and in high-quality development strategies. Therefore, this article constructs an evaluation index system for URI from five dimensions: economic integration, social integration, ecological integration, element integration, and spatial integration. The simulated annealing-projection pursuit model and time degree are used to analyze the dynamic urban-rural integration level (URIL) of 373 counties from 2000 to 2019. Building upon this foundation, this study classifies four types of URI zones and proposes development strategies tailored to each zone. The results indicate (1) that the URIL in the YRB continues to increase, and that there has been a significant increase in high-level integration areas since 2010. (2) The URIL exhibits a distinct spatial clustering pattern, characterized by lower levels in the upper reaches, and higher levels in the middle and lower reaches. (3) There exists a spatial disparity between economic development and the ecological environment, and it is particularly noticeable in the lower reaches regions. China's rapid road infrastructure construction (RIC) occupies farmland and promotes the flow of rural development factors, which causes farmland use transition (FUT). Although prior research on RIC and their impact on FUT has attracted considerable attention, few studies have investigated the threshold effect of RIC on FUT. Threshold effect is the phenomenon that when the level of RIC reaches a certain critical value, the level of FUT changes abruptly. This paper uses China's provincial panel data from 2004 to 2018 to evaluate FUT. We also consider the spatial spillover effect of RIC and construct a panel threshold regression model to assess the impact of RIC on FUT. The results demonstrate that, considering the spatial spillover effect, RIC significantly promotes FUT, and the threshold effect first rises and then falls. Also, the threshold effect of RIC on FUT also has significant regional heterogeneity. There is a significant single threshold effect for RIC in central and western China, with threshold values of 0.90 and 0.84, respectively, while the spatial lag of RIC in eastern China has a single threshold with a value of 1.10. Our research indicates that the Chinese central government should promote the synergistic increase in RIC and sustainable farmland use by improving the accessibility of road infrastructure and basing RIC planning on the actual development needs of the region., (© 2022. Sludge conditioning is important for improved dewatering, with the sludge characteristics impacting the effect of conditioning. A composite conditioner, Fe 2+ -activated sodium persulfate (Fe 2+ /SPS) combined with phosphogypsum (PG), was used to examine its impact on sludges with different organic contents (34.6-43.8%) or different solid contents (2.8-5.9%). Response surface optimization analysis shows that when the best conditioning is achieved, the reduction of the specific resistance to filtration (SRF) is not sensitive to organic matter content, but the dewatering performance of the sludge is greatly affected by the solid content. The oxidation role of Fe 2+ /SPS and the skeleton builder role of PG together affect the conditioning, oxidation playing a major role in conditioning, especially for greater organic matter content. The organic content (maximum η SOL value was 0.32) also affects the effectiveness of the skeleton builder more than the solid content (Maximum η SOL value was 0.25). Changes in PG significantly impacts the optimal molar ratio and dosage of Fe 2+ /SPS. Sludge with greater solid content requires greater Fe 2+ /SPS dosage to provide stronger oxidation to destroy flocs, and the maximum Fe 2+ :SPS molar ratio was 1.14 with solid content of 5.9 wt%. The composite conditioning decreases the content of extracellular polymeric substances and proteins/polysaccharides. Despite the potential shown by previous investigations on the use of ultrasound for the remediation of oil-contaminated sand, the influence and interactions among ultrasonic parameters and oily sand are unclear, leading to possible ineffective treatment and high-power consumption. In order to improve the process efficiency, this work analyzes the effects of ultrasonic power, frequency, and load toward the cleaning of crude oil-contaminated sand, using two different sample positions and sand types. Crude oil-contaminated beach sand and produced sand from offshore oil well were used as samples. They were cleaned in custom-made ultrasonic bath reactor for 10 min with power from 30 to 120 W, frequency covering 25-60 kHz, and sand load of 10-100 g. With experimental design consisting multiple factors and levels, the interactions between factors in all possible combinations were determined using ANOVA (n = 210). From p-value based at 95% confidence interval and extensive F test, the three most significant factors were the sand type, the ultrasonic frequency, and the interaction between sand type and frequency. The best setting for suspended samples involved high frequency of 60 kHz, whereas bottom samples preferred low frequency at 28 kHz. This finding was justified when the acoustic pressure attenuation, standing wave pattern, and surface pitting/cracking were found in correlation with the cleaning results. The determination of trace metals and organic contaminants in environmental samples, such as water, air, soil, and sediment, is until today a challenging process for the analytical chemistry. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are novel porous nanomaterials that are composed of metal ions and an organic connector. These materials are gaining more and more attention due to their superior characteristics, such as high surface area, tunable pore size, mechanical and thermal stability, luminosity, and charge transfer ability between metals and ligands. Among the various applications of MOFs are gas storage, separation, catalysis, and drug delivery. Recently, MOFs have been successfully introduced in the field of sample preparation for analytical chemistry and they have been used for sample pretreatment of various matrices. Identifying the key determinants of heavy metal(loid) accumulation in rice and quantifying their contributions are critical for precise prediction of heavy metal(loid) concentrations in rice and the formulation of effective pollution control strategies. The accumulation of heavy metal(loid)s in rice can be influenced by both natural and anthropogenic factors, which may interact with each other. However, distinguishing the independent roles (main effects) from interactive effects and quantifying their impacts separately pose challenges. To address this knowledge gap, we employed TreeExplainer-based SHAP and random forest algorithms in this study to quantitatively estimate the primary influencing factors and their main and interactive effects on heavy metal(loid)s in rice. Our findings reveal that soil cadmium (SCd) and rice cultivation time (C&#95;TIME) were the primary contributors to rice cadmium (RCd) and rice arsenic (RAs), respectively. Soil lead (SPb) and sampling distances from roads significantly contributed to rice lead (RPb). Additionally, we identified significant interactive effects of SCd and C&#95;TIME, C&#95;TIME and RCd, and RCd and rice variety on RCd, RAs, and RPb, respectively, emphasizing their significance. Municipal sludge generated from wastewater treatment plants can cause a serious environmental and economic burden. A novel hybrid conditioning strategy was developed to enhance the dewatering performance of sludge, employing 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ([C 4 mim][CF 3 SO 3 ]) treatment combined with H 2 SO 4 acidification. Following conditioning, the capillary suction time ( CST normalized ), the specific resistance of filtration (SRF), and moisture content of the treated sludge were decreased to 1.99 ± 0.24 (s·L/g TSS), 1.33 ± 0.05 (10 12  m/kg), and 72.01 ± 0.94%, respectively. The results were superior to those achieved with sludge treated solely by H 2 SO 4 acidification or [C 4 mim][CF 3 SO 3 ] alone. The biomacromolecules within the sludge flocs were dissolved by [C 4 mim][CF 3 SO 3 ], while simultaneously, the microorganisms were inactivated. Consequently, the colloidal-like structures of the sludge flocs were destroyed. Additionally, the ionizable functional groups of the biomacromolecules were instantly protonated by the introduced H + ions, and their negative charges were neutralized during the H 2 SO 4 acidification process. The presence of H + ions promoted the weakening of electrostatic repulsion between the sludge flocs. As a result, an enhancement of sludge dewaterability was obtained after treatment with [C 4 mim][CF 3 SO 3 ] and H 2 SO 4 acidification. The use of waste polyethylene (WPE) in modified asphalt is frequently employed to reduce environmental pollution and improve asphalt properties. However, research has shown that using WPE alone as a modifier does not effectively enhance the low-temperature flexibility of asphalt. This study aims to investigate the potential of utilizing WPE and waste cooking oil (WCO) as composite modifiers to enhance the properties of virgin asphalt under both high and low-temperature conditions. The contents of WPE and WCO were used, and the preparation process for the modified asphalt was optimized through an orthogonal experiment. The experimental results indicate that the optimal formulation for the WPE/WCO composite modified asphalt (WPE/WCO-A) is obtained with an additive dosage of 8% and 1% by mass of virgin asphalt for WPE and WCO, respectively, as well as the maintenance process at a temperature of 140 °C and a duration of 2 h. Dynamic shear rheometer (DSR) results reveal that WPE/WCO composite modifier can greatly improve the high-temperature deformation resistance of asphalt. Bending beam rheometer (BBR) tests confirm that WPE adversely affects the low-temperature flexibility of asphalt, while the addition of WCO can improve it. WPE/WCO-A has even better low-temperature properties than virgin asphalt (VA). The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) results suggest that the composite modification of asphalt by WPE/WCO modifiers is dominated by physical action. Furthermore, the fluorescence microscopy test results demonstrate that WCO can promote WPE swelling in asphalt. Catastrophic oil spill is one of the major issues to the environment. Various methods have been used to treat oil spillage including in situ burning, the use of skimmers, dispersants, bioremediation, dispersing agents, oil sorbents, and biological agents. Application of oil sorbent is one of the effective solutions in oil spill clean-up. Polymers are sustainable extraordinary materials for the treatment of oil spillage due to their special physicochemical characteristics such as high porosity, good hydrophobicity, and reusability. Polymers are modified using suitable chemical reagents and their hydrophobicity is enhanced, making them suitable for oil spill clean-up. Petrochemical wastewater contains a variety of organic pollutants. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) are used for deep petrochemical wastewater treatment with distinct advantages, including the complete mineralization of organic substances, minimal residual byproducts, and compatibility with biological treatment systems. This work evaluates the effectiveness of three methods, namely, ozone, persulfate, and O 3 -PMS (ozone-persulfate) processes, which were compared to remove soluble organic matter. The O 3 -PMS process offered significant advantages in terms of organic matter removal efficiency. This process involves ozone dissolution in an aqueous persulfate solution, producing a more significant amount of hydroxyl radicals in comparison to single AOPs. The production of hydroxyl radicals and the synergistic effect of hydroxyl radicals and persulfate radicals were investigated. In the O 3 -PMS process, transition metal ions were added to understand the mechanism of the O 3 -PMS coupled catalytic oxidation system. The results showed that when the ozone concentration was in the range of 5 ~ 25 mg/L, the dosage of persulfate was in the range of 0.01 ~ 0.05 mol/L, the dosage of metal compounds was in the range of 0:0 ~ 2:1, and the reaction time was in the range of 0 ~ 2 h; the optimum chemical oxygen demand (COD Cr ) and total organic content (TOC) removal effect was achieved under the coupled system with an ozone concentration of 10 mg/L, a persulfate dosage of 0.02 mol/L, a 1:2 dosage ratio of between Fe 2+ and Cu 2+ compounds, and a reaction time of 2 h. Under optimal reaction conditions, the rates of COD Cr and TOC removal reached 70% and 79.3%, respectively. Furthermore, the removal kinetics of the O 3 -PMS coupled catalytic oxidation system was analyzed to optimize the removal conditions of COD and TOC, and the mechanism regulating the degradation of dissolved organic matter was explored by three-dimensional fluorescence and GC-MS technology. Thus, O 3 -PMS coupled catalytic oxidation is an effective process for the deep treatment of wastewater. While thermal hydrolysis technology is commonly employed for sewage sludge treatment in extensive wastewater treatment facilities, persistent challenges remain, including issues such as ammonia-induced digestive inhibition and reduced productivity stemming from nutrient deficiency within the hydrothermal sludge. In this study, the effects of hydrothermal sludge-to-food waste mixing ratios and fermentation temperatures on anaerobic co-digestion were systematically investigated through a semi-continuous experiment lasting approximately 100 days. The results indicated that anaerobic co-digestion of hydrothermal sludge and food waste proceeded synergistically at any mixing ratio, and the synergistic effect is mainly attributed to the improvement of carbohydrate removal and digestive system stability. However, thermophilic digestion did not improve the anaerobic performance and methane yield. On the contrary, mesophilic digestion performed better in terms of organic matter removal, especially in the utilization of soluble carbohydrates, soluble proteins, and VFAs. Microbial community analysis revealed that the transition from mesophilic to thermophilic anaerobic co-digestion prompts changes in the methane-producing pathways. Specifically, the transition entails a gradual shift from pathways involving acetoclastic and hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis to a singular hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis pathway. This shift is driven by thermodynamic tendencies, as reflected in Gibbs free energy, as well as environmental factors like ammonia nitrogen and volatile fatty acids. Lastly, it is worth noting that the introduction of food waste did lead to a reduction in cake solids following dewatering. Petroleum spent hydroprocessing catalysts are hazardous solid waste, the efficient recycling of which is a serious challenge to refineries. However, information on the economic feasibility of spent catalysts recycling plants is scarce, which is critical for environmental authorities and decision-makers. In this work, an innovative recycling scheme targeting hydrometallurgical recovery of base metals (Ni, Mo, and V) and transforming low-value Al residue into a high-value boehmite (γ-AlOOH) as the key product was considered an efficient way to beneficiate the hazardous spent hydroprocessing catalysts. A preliminary techno-economic evaluation of such a recycling scheme was performed to assess the feasibility of the proposed recycling scheme. The recovery cost (valuable metals and boehmite) and potential revenue were estimated to study the economics of the process. The preliminary results have suggested that the recycling scheme is economically feasible with a high internal rate of return (IRR) of 12.3%, a net present value of 38.6 million USD, and a short payback period of 8.7 years. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis (± 10%) conducted on key parameters showed that the selling prices of the finished products and the cost of chemicals were the most important factors affecting plant economics. Overall, the recycling scheme was sustainable and avoided landfilling of spent catalysts as the residue can be beneficiated into a high-value product. The results from the economic feasibility study are likely to assist the stakeholders and decision-makers in making investment and policy decisions for the valorization of spent hydroprocessing catalysts., (© 2024. The rapid urbanization (UR) and industrialization in the Yellow River Basin (YRB) have resulted in a significant scarcity of water resources (WRs), highlighting the need to investigate the complex and dynamic relationship between UR and WR for sustainable urban development in ecologically fragile areas. This study utilizes the coupling coordination degree model (CCDM), spatial correlation analysis, and Tobit model to examine the coupling coordination relationship, spatial effects, and key factors between UR and WR in sixty prefecture-level cities within the YRB. The empirical findings reveal that the development of the WR subsystem lags behind the UR subsystem and that there is a significant spatial disequilibrium in the CCD between UR and WR. Specifically, the high-high clusters are located in the northwest and east, while the low-low clusters are spread in the southwest. Furthermore, investment in science and technology and economic development have a positive impact on the CCD, while government capacity, urban construction, and industrial structure have a negative impact. In the present study, a systematic literature review (SLR) is conducted to collect, compile, and summarize the findings of previous studies in a meaningful and systematic way. This review focuses on the ideal blending ratios, mixing parameters, and the physical, thermal, and rheological performance of waste plastic-modified asphalt. It highlights the most significant research results about the challenges like phase separation, low-temperature performance, and workability for waste plastic-modified asphalt and progress in this domain. The results point out that the use of chemical and physical additives can help in the reduction of phase separation. Furthermore, this paper debates the aging characteristics and it was seen that the integration of waste plastic in asphalt has shown to slow down the aging process of the binder. The review article put forward details of various field projects across the globe utilizing waste plastic. The review concludes by presenting key findings, identifying research gaps, and suggesting future directions to advance the knowledge and to fully comprehend the possible application of waste plastic-modified bitumen in sustainable road construction., (© 2024. The objective of this study was to characterize the performance of waste engine oil (WEO) and microwave-treated crumb rubber (CR)-modified asphalt (WEO-MCRA) and analyze the modification mechanism. The viscosity and dynamic shear rheological (DSR) tests were carried out to evaluate the viscoelasticity property of WEO-MCRA. The storage stability and fluorescence microscope (FM) tests were used to characterize the compatibility of the components. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and molecular dynamic simulation were introduced to analyze the change of function groups and modification mechanism. The results demonstrated that introducing Wt.20% CR treated with microwave and Wt.6% WEO obtained a lower viscosity, excellent storage stability, and satisfactory elasticity properties of asphalt. The morphology of modifiers presented a thread-like structure microscopic with the range of WEO content Wt.3%-Wt.6%. Molecular dynamic simulations revealed that the aromatic may be intensively absorbed by CR and increase the likelihood of phase separation. WEO reduced the binding energy of CR to aromatic from 178.0 to 151.5 kcal/mol, which will contribute to the disaggregation of CR clusters. The diffusion coefficient shows a more obvious decrease with the addition of WEO and microwave treatment, which will benefit the stability of the asphalt. China has experienced a boom expansion of non-grain production in recent years. While the non-grain production can increase the economic benefits of farmers, its expansion has significant impacts on the ecological environment and agricultural sustainability. This study attempted to assess the trade-offs between the economic benefits and environmental costs of non-grain production and to provide reference for future land use management. Focusing on the non-grain expansion in Tongxiang City, eastern China, empirical models and field surveys were used to evaluate its environmental impacts and monetary analysis was used to assess the trade-offs between the economic benefits and environmental costs. The results showed that the area of non-grain production increased by 2464.74 ha from 2005 to 2020, and pond fish farming accounted for the largest proportion. The economic benefits and environmental costs of non-grain production increased continuously during 2005-2020, and the net economic-environmental benefits gradually expanded after 2010. Trade-off analysis indicates that the economic benefits of duck rearing did not compensate for the environmental costs, while the other non-grain productions did. Nevertheless, the potential impact of non-grain conversion on the local environment is still underestimated. The efficient management and treatment of pharmaceutical industry wastewater (PIWW) have become a serious environmental issue due to its high toxicity. To overcome this problem, the present study deals with the phycoremediation of PIWW using Chlorella vulgaris microalga isolated from the Ganga River at Haridwar, India. For this, response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN) tools were used to identify the best reduction of total phosphorus (TP) and total Kjeldahl's nitrogen (TKN) based pollutants along with the lipid production efficiency of C. vulgaris. Three different concentrations of pharmaceutical wastewater (0, 50, and 100%), operating temperatures (20, 25, and 30 °C), and light intensity (2000, 3000, and 4000 lx) were used to design the phycoremediation experiments having 6:18 h of dark/light period and reactor functional volume of 15L. Findings revealed that C. vulgaris was good enough to remove maximum TP (90.35%), TKN (83.55%) along 20.88% of lipid yield at 25.62 °C temperature, 60.73% PIWW concentration, and 4000 lx of light intensity, respectively. Based on the model performance and validation results, ANN showed more accuracy as compared to the RSM tool. The Lancang River flows through the alpine canyon region of southwest China, an area that has experienced frequent geological disasters over the years. Early monitoring of geological hazards is essential for disaster prevention and mitigation. However, traditional ground monitoring techniques are limited by the complex terrain conditions in high-altitude valley regions. In contrast, interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) technology can provide a high-precision, wide-range monitoring of slow rock-slope deformation, making it an effective tool for studying geological hazards. Within the study area, multiple synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images from the Sentinel-1A satellite were collected, and surface deformation was obtained using the small baseline subset InSAR (SBAS-InSAR). The results demonstrate that combining ascending and descending orbit images can be successfully applied to landslide monitoring in complex mountainous areas. Over 30 potential landslides were identified by combining InSAR results with optical images. The Line-Of-Sight (LOS) direction deformation features and their relationship with precipitation were analyzed based on two typical landslides, and two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) deformation decomposition was carried out to reveal its motion characteristics. It was found that the cumulative deformation fluctuation amplitude was higher during the rainy season, and the main movement direction of the landslide was east-west. In addition, based on the spatial distribution and statistical analysis of deformation points along with meteorological data, geological elements, human activities, and topographic conditions, it is inferred that factors such as low vegetation coverage, tectonic movements, human activities, and high-altitude glacier thawing may contribute to the occurrence of disasters. And it was found that areas with high vegetation cover, high rainfall, and snow cover exhibit lower coherence coefficients. The rising human demand for food has increased the pursuit for more agricultural land to feed the ever-growing human population. Although agriculture constitutes the cornerstone of most economies and serves as a vital source of foreign earnings to others, experts suggest that it emits a substantial amount of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, thereby enhancing global warming. Furthermore, with the growing pace of globalization, less developed countries are witnessing economic growth with detrimental impacts on the environment. Inspired by the need to protect tropical rainforests and basins, the current research aims to assess the dynamic impacts of agricultural land use change (LALUC) and globalization (LGLO) on environmental quality (LCO 2 ) in the Congo Basin while controlling for economic growth (LGDP), biomass energy consumption (LBIO), and urbanization (LURBN). Based on panel data from 1980 to 2018, this study utilized second-generation econometric methods including the cross-sectional Im, Peseran Shin (CIPS), Westerlund bootstrapped co-integration test, autoregressive distributive lag/pooled mean group (ARDL/PMG), and the Dumitrescu Hurlin (D-H) panel causality estimates. The outcome reveals a long-run equilibrium co-integrating association among the estimated variables, and LALUC, LBIO, and LURBN were found to reduce LCO 2 , while LGDP and LGLO increase LCO 2 . These findings imply the inverted U-shaped relationship between LALUC, LBIO, and LURBN is beneficial for environmental quality in the Congo Basin. Based on the findings, environmental quality and economic growth can be achieved instantaneously in this region by engaging in large-scale production of biomass energy. In this study, 6229 brown rice grains from three major rice-producing regions were collected to investigate the spatial and variety distributions of heavy metals in rice grains in China. The potential sources of heavy metals in rice grains were identified using the Pearson correlation matrix and principal component analysis, and the health risks of dietary exposure to heavy metals via rice consumption were assessed using the hazard index (HI) and total carcinogenic risk (TCR) method, respectively. Moreover, 48 paired soil and rice samples from 11 cities were collected to construct a predicting model for Cd accumulation in rice grains using the multiple linear stepwise regression analysis. The results indicated that Cd and Ni were the main heavy metal pollutants in rice grains in China, with approximately 10% of samples exceeding their corresponding maximum allowable limits. The Yangtze River basin had heavier pollution of heavy metals than the Southeast Coastal Region and Northeast Plain, and the indica rice varieties had higher heavy metal accumulation abilities compared with the japonica rice. The Cu, Pb, and Cd mainly originated from anthropogenic sources, while As, Hg, Cr, and Ni originated from both natural and anthropogenic sources. The mean HI and TCR values of dietary exposure to heavy metals via rice consumption ranged from 2.92 to 4.31 and 9.74 × 10 -3 to 1.44 × 10 -2 , respectively, much higher than the acceptable range, and As and Ni were the main contributor to the HI and TCR for Chinese adults and children, respectively. The available Si (ASi), total Cd (TCd), available Mo (AMo), and available S (AS) were the main soil factors determining grain Cd accumulation. The paper investigates the impact of green human resource management (GHRM) on operatives' green actions in Iranian businesses. GHRM is a human resource management approach that prioritizes environmental and social responsibility. The study uses a random sample of 385 managers and employees from Iran's industrialized businesses in all regions. The research uses partial least square structure equations modeling to evaluate the suggested framework. The results show that GHRM practices affect corporate social responsibility, green attitudes inside the workplace, and green activities taken by workers. In addition, a green mentality and a commitment to corporate social responsibility encourage environmental activities in the workplace. The green psychosocial environment and corporate social responsibilities are intermediaries between green human resources development and individual green behaviour in Iranian businesses. The study suggests that incorporating sustainability metrics into the human resource management system is vital for achieving a sustainable future in industrial development. Lead, a toxic heavy metal present in soil, hampers biological activities and affects the metabolism of plants, animals, and human beings. Its higher concentration may disturb the various physio-chemical processes, which result in stunted and poor plant growth. An interactive approach of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) and L-tryptophan can be used to mitigate the lethal effects of lead. A pot experiment was conducted, and two weeks before sowing, the level of lead (300 mg kg -1 ) was maintained by spiking the PbCl 2 salt. Pseudomonas fluorescens and L-tryptophan were applied individually as well as in combination to segregate the effect of both in contaminated soil under a completely Randomized Design (CRD). Statistical analysis revealed that plant growth was significantly reduced up to 22% due to lead contamination. However, the interactive approach of PGPR and L-tryptophan significantly improved the plant growth, physiology, and yield with relative productive index (RPI) under a lead-stressed environment. Moreover, integrated use of PGPR and L-tryptophan demonstrated a considerable increase (22%) in lead removal efficiency (LRE) by improving bioconcentration factor (BCF) and translocation factor (TF) for shoot without increasing the lead concentration in achenes. Detecting and mapping landslides are crucial for effective risk management and planning. With the great progress achieved in applying optimized and hybrid methods, it is necessary to use them to increase the accuracy of landslide susceptibility maps. Therefore, this research aims to compare the accuracy of the novel evolutionary methods of landslide susceptibility mapping. To achieve this, a unique method that integrates two techniques from Machine Learning and Neural Networks with novel geomorphological indices is used to calculate the landslide susceptibility index (LSI). The study was conducted in western Azerbaijan, Iran, where landslides are frequent. Sixteen geology, environment, and geomorphology factors were evaluated, and 160 landslide events were analyzed, with a 30:70 ratio of testing to training data. Four Support Vector Machine (SVM) algorithms and Artificial Neural Network (ANN)-MLP were tested. The study outcomes reveal that utilizing the algorithms mentioned above results in over 80% of the study area being highly sensitive to large-scale movement events. Our analysis shows that the geological parameters, slope, elevation, and rainfall all play a significant role in the occurrence of landslides in this study area. These factors obtained 100%, 75.7%, 68%, and 66.3%, respectively. The predictive performance accuracy of the models, including SVM, ANN, and ROC algorithms, was evaluated using the test and train data. The AUC for ANN and each machine learning algorithm (Simple, Kernel, Kernel Gaussian, and Kernel Sigmoid) was 0.87% and 1, respectively. The Classification Matrix algorithm and Sensitivity, Accuracy, and Specificity variables were used to assess the models' efficacy for prediction purposes. Results indicate that machine learning algorithms are more effective than other methods for evaluating areas' sensitivity to landslide hazards. This study examined the prevalence and associations between occupational-related diseases, emotional exhaustion, and dust mask anxiety among coal miners in Northern China. The study sampled 506 miners from two coal mines in Northern China. Descriptive (frequency, percentages, and chi-square tests) and inferential (complementary log-log logistic regression) analyses were carried out to assess prevalence and associations. The prevalence of coal mining-related pulmonary diseases was 94%, with 40% and 37% reporting pneumoconiosis and bronchitis respectively. Emphysema and tuberculosis were less prevalent with a total prevalence of 5% while 12% of the miners reported two, three, or four of these diseases. For cardiovascular diseases, 66% of the miners reported 3H (hypertension, hyperlipemia, and hyperglycemia) while heart disease and cerebral infarction were reported by 6% and 2% of the miners respectively. Also, 5% and 2% of the miners reported two or all three of 3H, heart condition, and cerebral infarction. The overall prevalence of cardiovascular diseases was 81% while 82% and 63% of the miners reported experiencing some frequency of emotional exhaustion and dust mask anxiety respectively. The study also identified associations between mining-related diseases, emotional exhaustion, dust mask anxiety, and other demographic, personal habits and work-related factors. Miners with pulmonary diseases were more likely to experience emotional exhaustion and dust mask anxiety. Contrariwise, miners with cardiovascular diseases were less likely to experience dust mask anxiety. Factors such as age, engaging in physical exercises, rhinitis, source of pressure and shift system were also associated with emotional exhaustion and dust mask anxiety. These findings highlight the prevalence of occupational diseases, emotional exhaustion, and dust mask anxiety among coal miners in China. Conservation tillage is an important reform of traditional tillage, which has significant carbon sequestration and emission reduction effects. It is important to investigate the influencing factors and spatiotemporal heterogeneity of net carbon sink of conservation tillage for realizing the "dual carbon" target, and facilitating agricultural sustainable development. This study used the coefficient accounting method to calculate the carbon sink and carbon emission of conservation tillage in China from 2000 to 2019, respectively. Based on this, the net carbon sink of conservation tillage was measured. Then, the spatiotemporal heterogeneity of influencing factors on net carbon sink of conservation tillage was analyzed by using the geographically and temporally weighted regression model. The results showed that (1) the net carbon sink of conservation tillage in China was significant and had potential to have a constant rise; (2) spatially, the net carbon sink of conservation tillage changed more variably in longitudinal direction. Specifically, the promotion effect of conservation tillage machinery gradually decreased from west to east. The planting structure and conservation tillage promotion intensity played key roles in improving net carbon sink of conservation tillage. (3) Temporally, the effect of conservation tillage machinery showed positive effect of decreasing yearly, while the positive effect of promotion intensity increased year by year. Planting structure and economic development negatively affected improvement on the net carbon sink of conservation tillage and the negative effect increased year by year. Additionally, the effect of education on the net carbon sink shifted from positive to negative over time. Phosphogypsum (PG) cementitious paste backfill (CPB) was prepared by using PG and fly ash (FA) as the main raw materials, red mud (RM) as the alkaline activator, Portland cement (OPC) as the binder, and silica fume (SF) as the additive, and its properties were investigated to achieve the objective of "treating harm with waste." The results showed that the addition of OPC facilitated the flowability of the slurry, while the addition of RM and SF had the opposite effect. The slurry presented ideal flowability when the water/binder ratio was 0.2 and the superplasticizer (SP) content was 0.7%. The mechanical properties and water resistance were improved significantly with increasing OPC, RM, and SF doping. The strength of the CPB material exceeded 22 MPa after curing at room temperature for 28 days, which met the mine filling requirements. Changes in the ion concentrations of the solution were first monitored during immersion. The dissolution rules of Ca 2+ and SO 4 2- at different immersion ages confirmed that RM promoted the continuous hydration of CPB, which was the key to improve water resistance. Microstructural analysis showed that the main hydration products were AFt and C-S-H, which played an important role in the strength development of the material. The leaching results demonstrated that the metal ion content satisfied the requirements of the III categories of Chinese environmental standards (GB/T 14848-2017), indicating that the technology is a reliable and environmentally friendly technology for PG, FA, and RM recovery that can simultaneously support safe mining., (© 2023. The matching imbalance of resource factors leads to land use elemental conflicts (LUECs), which has become the bottleneck restricting high-quality social and economic development. The heavy industrial zones (HIZ) have become the focus area of LUECs due to the high-resource consumption. Taking the urban group of central Liaoning Province, the area of industrial revitalization in northeast China as a case study area, the study proposed a wavelet coherence approach to identifying the influencing indicators and indicators weight of LUECs for spatial evaluation. Two-dimensional graph theory is used to cluster the evaluation results of LUECs at the plot scale and controls the main indicators to put forward the zoning strategies of LUECs. The results showed that the main indicators affecting LUECs in the western part of the HIZ are mainly human indicators, while the fierce conflicts in the east mainly come from natural indicators. The zoning strategies of LUECs in the HIZ should prevent excessive energy consumption from increasing carbon emissions in intense conflict zone and moderate conflict zone and strengthen the rural settlement arrangement and soil erosion control in mild conflict zone and structure ecological security early warnings in potential conflict zone. Agricultural carbon emission reduction is an important issue in environmental protection and development in China and the world. The farmland spatial transition is an important path for agricultural modernization in developing countries such as China. How can farmland spatial transition promote agricultural carbon emission reduction? This paper aims to explore the mechanisms and spatial-temporal effects of farmland spatial transition on agricultural carbon emission density. To study the mechanisms and effects, we establish the random effect model, the threshold model, and the GTWR model with 2018 counties in China from 2000 to 2020. The research shows the farmland spatial transition mainly promotes agricultural carbon emission reduction through the interaction mechanism of large-scale production and specialized production, intermediary, and threshold mechanisms of agricultural technology. The result also shows that specialized farmland management is the main driving force of agricultural carbon emission reduction for farmland spatial transition. Moreover, the impact of farmland spatial transition on agricultural carbon emission reduction has significant spatial and temporal differences. The most significant regions are located in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River plain, while the least are the north and southwest. Besides, the impact of the farmland spatial transition on agricultural carbon emissions reduction has a "V" shape over time, indicating China's agricultural carbon emission reduction is facing enormous economic and social development challenges. The dewatering treatment is an essential process for the treatment and disposal of surplus activated sludge (SAS), and improving sludge dewatering performance is still a challenge and has become a research hotspot in recent years. The oxidation and disintegration of bacterial cells and extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) by active radicals produced by advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) were extremely promising to achieve deep sludge dewatering. This paper systematically studied the efficiency and mechanism of thermally activated persulfate (TAP) oxidation technology to the improvement of SAS dewatering performance. The results showed that the relative filterability (CST 0 /CST) was increased 2.52 times with 2.0 mmol/g VSS potassium peroxydisulfate (PDS) at 80 °C in 90 min. Under this condition, the Zeta potential of SAS significantly decreased from - 14.8 to - 1.44 mV, while the average particle size (dp50) decreased from 52.981 to 48.259 μm. Thermal treatment disrupted the sludge structure to release large amounts of EPS including polysaccharides and protein. Meanwhile, the results of three-dimensional excitation-emission matrix (3D-EEM) fluorescence spectra showed that the TAP treatment could expedite the disintegration of sludge, facilitating the decrease of total EPS content and conversion of tightly bound EPS (TB-EPS) to loosely bound EPS (LB-EPS) and soluble EPS (S-EPS). The mechanism of TAP process to improve SAS dewatering performance was revealed, which could contribute to breaking the bottleneck of sludge depth dewatering and provide a theoretical and technical basis for its practical application., (© 2023. As information and communication technologies gain prominence in rural areas, rural e-commerce has emerged as a crucial mechanism for fostering agricultural and rural development. While the economic impact of rural e-commerce is widely studied, its effects on carbon emissions remain underexplored. Utilizing a multi-period DID model and Chinese county-level panel data from 2011 to 2017, this paper examines the impact of rural e-commerce on carbon emission reduction, employing the "comprehensive demonstration of e-commerce into villages" policy introduced by the Chinese government in 2014 as a quasi-natural experiment. Our findings show that e-commerce demonstration counties experienced a 10.6% reduction in carbon emissions compared to the control group, indicating a significant emission reduction effect. Further analysis reveals that rural e-commerce drives carbon reduction through decreased fertilizer usage, altered cropping structures, and enhanced transportation efficiency. Notably, rural e-commerce's emission reduction effect is more pronounced in major grain-producing regions and areas with higher digitalization levels. Ensemble learning techniques have shown promise in improving the accuracy of landslide models by combining multiple models to achieve better predictive performance. In this study, several ensemble methods (Dagging, Bagging, and Decorate) and a radial basis function classifier (RBFC) were combined to predict landslide susceptibility in the Trung Khanh district of the Cao Bang Province, Vietnam. The ensemble models were developed using a geospatial database containing 45 historical landslides (1074 points) and thirteen influencing variables characterizing the topography, geology, land use/cover, and human activities of the study area. The performance of the models was evaluated based on the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and several other performance metrics, including positive predictive value (PPV), negative predictive value (NPV), sensitivity (SST), specificity (SPF), accuracy (ACC), and root mean square error (RMSE). The Bagging-RBFC model with PPV = 86%, NPV = 95%, SST = 95%, SPF = 87%, ACC = 91%, RMSE = 0.297, and AUC = 98% was found to be the most accurate model for the prediction of landslide susceptibility, followed by the Dagging-RBFC, Decorate-RBFC, and single RBFC models. The study demonstrates the efficacy of ensemble learning techniques in developing reliable landslide predictive models, which can ultimately save lives and reduce infrastructure damage in landslide-prone regions worldwide., (© 2023. Businesses increasingly recognize the strategic advantage of adopting a green approach, especially in light of the world's growing interest in sustainable development. This strategy appeals to people because it can enhance economic success and ensure long-term sustainability. While there have been numerous studies examining the impact of corporate social responsibility (CSR) on businesses, there is still a significant gap in knowledge regarding the links between CSR, sustainable consumption and production (SCP), green innovation (GI), and green supply chain management (GSCM), and how they collectively contribute to sustainability. This research addresses the gap by exploring the mediating role of GI and GSCM in the relationship between CSR and SCP in contemporary businesses. The study utilized partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to analyze the survey data collected from a sample of 486 managerial staff members. The findings reveal how CSR impacts SCP through the intermediary effects of GI and GSCM. Furthermore, this research contributes to the existing CSR literature by highlighting the potential benefits of CSR in generating value for the firm's performance. In light of these findings, it is recommended that small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) adjust their strategies and operations to impact the environment, culture, and economy positively. Skeleton builders are essential for achieving deep sludge dewatering. In this study, a novel spent coffee ground (SCG)-based skeleton builder was developed to attain deep sludge dewatering by combined conditioning with FeCl 3 , and possible mechanisms were examined. Through different surface analysis techniques, it was demonstrated that at a pyrolysis temperature of 300 °C, the spent coffee ground biochar (SCGB-300) has an intact pore structure, a rigid carbon skeleton, and large oxygen-containing functional groups, making it the best skeleton builder for sludge dewatering. When combined with FeCl 3 for conditioning, the structure of SCGB-300 remained intact under high pressure and played important role. The rich porous structure facilitated water drainage. During the sludge conditioning, small amount of positive charge on the surface of SCGB-300 further increased the zeta potential of sludge through charge neutralization. At the same time, the adsorption of SCGB-300 removed viscous hydrophilic substances and further improved the dewatering performance. At an optimum dosage of 6% (dry solid, DS) FeCl 3 and 30% SCGB-300 (DS), the moisture content of sludge was reduced from 85.47% to 63.35%, and the dewatering rate was increased from 46.08% to 70.03%. Microplastics (MPs) inevitably undergo multiple aging processes during their life cycle in the environment. However, the information regarding the mechanical fragmentation behavior of MPs remained unclear, including the changes in the intrinsic properties of aged MPs, the measurement of aging degree, the underlying mechanism, and the interaction with heavy metals. Here, MPs (PS, PP, PET) were aged by crushing (-CR) and ball-milling (-BM) to simulate mild and severe mechanical fragmentation, respectively. Our results indicated that mechanical fragmentation significantly affected the morphology of MPs. The aging degree of MP-BM was deeper compared to MP-CR owing to smaller particle size, larger specific surface area, poorer heat resistance, better hydrophilicity, and richer oxygen-containing functional groups. The carbonyl index (CI) and O/C ratio were used to measure the aging degree of the two mechanical aging treatments. Besides, the mechanism was proposed and the discrepancy between the two treatments was elaborated from three aspects including the excitation energy source, reaction interface, and reaction dynamics. Furthermore, the extrinsic properties of MPs altered with the increase of aging degree; specifically, the adsorption capacities of heavy metals were enhanced. Meanwhile, it was unveiled that the CI value and O/C ratio played a vital role in estimating the adsorption ability of heavy metals. As the demand for sustainable energy sources expands, the production of biodiesel has attracted great attention. The development of effective and ecologically friendly biodiesel catalysts has become an urgent need. In this context, the goal of this study is to develop a composite solid catalyst with enhanced efficiency, reusability, and reduced environmental impact. For that, eco-friendly, and reusable composite solid catalysts have been designed by impregnating different amounts of zinc aluminate into a zeolite matrix (ZnAl 2 O 4 @Zeolite). Structural and morphological characterizations confirmed the successful impregnation of zinc aluminate into the zeolite porous structure. Catalytic experiments revealed that the catalyst containing 15 wt% ZnAl 2 O 4 showed the highest conversion activity of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) of 99% under optimized reaction conditions, including 8 wt% catalyst, a molar ratio of 10:1 methanol to oil, a temperature of 100 °C, and 3 h of reaction time. The developed catalyst demonstrated high thermal and chemical stability, maintaining good catalytic activity even after five cycles. Furthermore, the produced biodiesel quality assessment has demonstrated good properties in compliance with the criteria of the American Society for Testing and Materials ASTM-D6751 and the European Standard EN14214. Overall, the findings of this study could have a significant impact on the commercial production of biodiesel by offering an efficient and environmentally friendly reusable catalyst, ultimately reducing the cost of biodiesel production., (© 2023. Biochar is a valuable adsorbent for the removal of heavy metals from water, and it is important to explore ways to increase its heavy metal adsorption capacity. In this study, Mg/Fe bimetallic oxide was loaded onto sewage sludge-derived biochar to enhance its heavy metal adsorption capacity. Batch adsorption experiments for the removal of Pb(II) and Cd(II) were performed to evaluate the removal efficiency of Mg/Fe layer bimetallic oxide-loaded sludge-derived biochar ((Mg/Fe)LDO-ASB). The physicochemical properties of (Mg/Fe)LDO-ASB and corresponding adsorption mechanisms were studied. The maximum adsorption capacities of (Mg/Fe)LDO-ASB for Pb(II) and Cd(II), which were calculated by isotherm model, were 408.31 and 270.41 mg/g, respectively. Adsorption kinetics and isotherms analysis showed that the dominant adsorption process of Pb(II) and Cd(II) uptake by (Mg/Fe)LDO-ASB was spontaneous chemisorption and heterogeneous multilayer adsorption, and film diffusion was the rate-limiting step. SEM-EDS, FTIR, XRD, and XPS analyses revealed that the Pb and Cd adsorption processes of (Mg/Fe)LDO-ASB involved oxygen-containing functional group complexation, mineral precipitation, electron-π-metal interactions, and ion exchange. The order of their contribution was as follows: mineral precipitation (Pb: 87.92% and Cd: 79.91%) > ion exchange (Pb: 9.84% and Cd: 16.45%) > metal-π interaction (Pb: 0.85% and Cd: 0.73%) > oxygen-containing functional group complexation (Pb: 1.39% and Cd: 2.91%). Eutrophication happens when water bodies are enriched by minerals and nutrients. Dense blooms of noxious are the most obvious effect of eutrophication that harms water quality, and by increasing toxic substances damage the water ecosystem. Therefore, it is critical to monitor and investigate the development process of eutrophication. The concentration of chlorophyll-a (chl-a) in water bodies is an essential indicator of eutrophication in them. Previous studies in predicting chlorophyll-a concentrations suffered from low spatial resolution and discrepancies between predicted and observed values. In this paper, we used various remote sensing and ground observation data and proposed a novel machine learning-based framework, a random forest inversion model, to provide the spatial distribution of chl-a in 2 m spatial resolution. The results showed our model outperformed other base models, and the goodness of fit improved by over 36.6% while MSE and MAE decreased by over 15.17% and over 21.26% respectively. Moreover, we compared the feasibility of GF-1 and Sentinel-2 remote sensing data in chl-a concentration prediction. We found that better prediction results can be obtained by using GF-1 data, with the goodness of fit reaching 93.1% and MSE only 3.589. The current study used phytoplankton functional groups (FGs) to assess the impact of barrages on the ecological function of subtropical river Ganga. A total of 101 phytoplankton species were identified, including 20 phytoplankton FGs with MP and D having the highest prevalence rates of more than 50%. Other FGs with higher occurrence rates, such as N, A, and J, displayed seasonal and spatial advantages on occasion, indicating the randomness of exogenous influx from catchment areas. Based on phytoplankton FGs similarities, a non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis (NMDS) revealed geographical and seasonal discrepancies. The higher concentration of chemical components in Kanpur was linked to decreased water discharged from preceding reservoirs, resulting in a highly polluted stretch in terms of spatial variation, according to our findings. During the monsoon season, however, the diluting process caused by precipitation and surface runoff significantly improved water quality. As a result, we hypothesized that a sequence of barrages alters the hydrological characteristics of cascading reservoirs, which was related to spatial and seasonal fluctuation in FG diversity and phytoplankton FGs could be useful bioindicators of water quality. In conclusion, the phytoplankton FGs approach is useful for identifying the geographical and seasonal aspects of aquatic ecosystems that are heavily influenced by human activities, but its sensitivity to changes in spatial and seasonal water quality warrants more exploration., (© 2023. The contradiction among human being, resources, and environment has become a significant obstacle to achieving sustainable development, especially in rural areas subject to the spillover of urban development elements. With the immense strain of resources and environment, it is critical to assess whether human activities fall within the carrying capacity range of a natural ecosystem in a rural system. Taking the rural areas of Liyang county as an example, this study aims to assess the rural resource and environmental carrying capacity (RRECC) and diagnose its critical obstacles. Firstly, a social-ecological framework focusing on human-environment interaction was employed to construct the RRECC indicator system. Subsequently, the entropy-TOPSIS method was introduced to assess the performance of the RRECC. Finally, the obstacle diagnosis method was applied to identify the critical obstacles of RRECC. Our results show that the distribution of RRECC presents a spatial heterogeneity, with high- and medium-high-level villages primarily concentrated in the south of the study area, where there are abundant hills and ecological lakes. Medium-level villages are scattered throughout each town, and low and medium-low level villages are concentrated across all the towns. Moreover, the resource subsystem of RRECC (RRECC&#95;RS) exhibits a similar spatial distribution to RRECC, while the outcome subsystem of RRECC (RRECC&#95;OS) has a comparable quantity proportion of different levels to RRECC. Furthermore, the diagnosis results of critical obstacle vary between the town scale divided by administrative units and the regional scale divided by RRECC values. In detail, arable land occupied by construction is the main critical obstacle at the town scale, while the poor people in villages, people left-behind, and arable land occupied by construction are the main critical obstacles at the regional scale. Targeted differentiated improvement strategies for RRECC at regional scale from various perspectives of global, local, and single are proposed. This research can serve as a theoretical foundation for assessing RRECC and developing differentiated sustainable development strategies for the path forward to rural revitalization., (© 2023. Existing literatures across the world highlighted the causes and rate of wetland loss; however, so far, no researches tried to analyze how these are guided by the socioeconomic and ecological conditions. The current review work wished to explore how economic and socioecological perspectives could control the rate and drivers of urban wetland loss. Through meta-analysis, this study also intended to explore the changing polarity in research publication and collaborative research. Total 287 original research articles indicating the rates and drivers of wetland loss from 1990 to June 2022 for the first objective and 1500 articles focusing wetland researches from Dimensions AI database for the last objective were taken.Results clearly revealed that the rate of urban wetland loss varies from 0.03 to 3.13% annually, and three main drivers like built-up, agricultural expansions, pollution were identified all across the world. Loss rate was found maximum in the developing and least developed countries. Pollution, built-up expansion, and agriculture expansion, respectively, in developed, developing, and least developed nations were identified as the most dominant drivers of urban wetland loss. Linking loss rate and drivers with socioecological and economic perspectives revealed that human development index (HDI), ecological performance index (EPI), sustainable development goal index (SDGI), and social progress index (SPI) is negatively associated with the rate of urban wetland loss. Contrarily, a poverty rate encouraged higher rate of loss. This study investigated the effects of heavy metals on the species diversity of the Xinjian Dyke Wetland, an ecosystem where reclaimed farmlands are being transformed back into wetlands through the introduction of indigenous plants. The sources of soil heavy metals were analyzed, and correlation analyses were conducted to assess the relationships between heavy metal content and biodiversity indices. The results indicated that (1) the mean contents of Hg, Cd, Cu, Zn, As, Cr, and Pb were higher than the control values, with the content of Hg, Cd, Cu, and Zn exceeding the national standard; (2) the soil heavy metals mainly came from pesticides, chemical fertilizer, transportation, sewage irrigation, and the soil matrix; and (3) Hg and As were not significantly correlated with the diversity indices, but there was a highly positive correlation for Cu, Cr, and Pb, and a significant negative correlation for Zn and Cd. Collectively, our findings indicated that heavy metals have different effects on the plant species diversity inXinjian Dyke reconstruction area. The ecological restoration of wetlands from reclaimed farmlands should reasonably increase tolerant species and maximize the ecological niche differentiation of the species. What are the relationships among environmental regulations, green finance, and environmental damages in countries? Existing literature supports the impact of green finance or green innovation on environmental quality, but rare studies query the cointegration among other core variables. We thus utilize the yearly data of 25 Chinese provinces from 2003 to 2021 to empirically examine the relationships among access to clean energy and technology, environmental regulation, renewable green investment, subsidy on green energy, and green finance index in environmental damage compensation via an augmented mean group (AMG) and other estimators. However, the current empirical research also investigates the individual linkage of green finance components with explained variables. Overall, this study confirms the existence of cointegration relationships among these variables. Moreover, the results of AMG suggest that access to clean fuels and technology, environmental regulations, and green finance can inversely affect the explained variable in the long term. Furthermore, environmental regulations and renewable green investment positively affect environmental damages, while a separate proxy of green finance also negatively affects explained variables in the selected provinces with better environmental performance. Wastewater-based epidemiology (WBE), as a rapid tool, is used to measure and monitor illicit drug consumption in the population. This method is also used to bridge biomarkers of exposure, contaminants, and human health. Smoking cigarettes and tobacco use are everyday habits in nowadays community. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to calculate nicotine consumption globally. The related studies were retrieved within international databases including Scopus, Google Scholar, and Web of Science, up to February 2021. It included twenty-one articles containing 87 measurements covering 275.3 million people with total wastewater samples of 2250. Results showed that the highest and lowest nicotine consumption rate (mg/1000 inh./day) was in Portugal (5860) and Vietnam (1201), respectively. The global pooled nicotine consumption rate was 2476 mg/1000 inh./day (95% CI (2289-2663). Based on WBE results, the average daily cigarette smoked per smoker is 14 (95% CI: 10-18 cigarettes/inh./day), close to the value of 14.2 reported by the survey and interview studies. Risk assessment of the nicotine consumption rate through WBE was calculated by the margin of exposure (MOE) approach. In total, 82% of nicotine consumption measurements were located in the "risk" level (MOE < 100), and 18% of the MOE values were between 100-1000. The results reveal that nicotine consumption risks need immediate global and local action strategies. In this study, we examine the dewaterability of sludge after treatment by KMnO 4 at various pH levels, with the goal of understanding the dewaterability of strong oxidizers to waste activated sludge. Good dewatering performance is observed, with capillary suction times (CST) reduced from 263.4 to 30.1 s, and specific resistance to filtration (SRF) falling by 19.6%. Proteins and polysaccharides in tightly bound extracellular polymeric substances (EPS) were also significantly reduced. Based on spectroscopic and electrochemical analysis, we propose mechanisms for the improved dewatering in terms of changes to the sludge's physicochemical properties and EPS. Under strong oxidation, the structure surrounding the bound water is oxidized and bound water is released, so the dewaterability of the sludge is improved.Weiliang Pan and Jiaoni Li contributed equally to this work., (© 2023.
