Increasing demand for shopping and packaging carrier bags has given rise to various issues relating to its disposal as well as to the overall environmental footprint and sustainability of the packaging materials. This study assesses the carbon footprint and life cycle environmental impacts of the production, usage, and disposal of low density polyethylene (LDPE) and two natural fibre carrier bags (jute and kenaf). Life cycle assessment study was conducted of all inputs and outputs, aggregated in the form of resources used and environmental emissions, extending from the production of raw materials to the final disposal of the product. The carbon footprint and GHG emissions of jute and kenaf carrier bags were estimated using the CO2, N2O, and CH4 emissions coefficients of inputs. Research literature from life cycle impact assessment (LCIA) results was used to determine the effects of LDPE polyethylene packaging material. It was observed that the global warming potential (GWP) for the production of 1 kg of LDPE (100 micron) carrier bag (39.4 kg CO2eq) is more than 490 times higher than jute and kenaf carrier bags. In general, LDPE materials have the greatest impact on the carbon footprint and resource depletion. The LDPE material also has the highest impacts on indicators of terrestrial ecotoxicity, photochemical oxidation, acidification, and eutrophication as compared to jute and kenaf fibres. Since jute and kenaf are natural fibres, they sequester a substantial quantity of carbon during their agricultural stages. As a result, greenhouse gas (GHG) emission emissions of jute and kenaf were found to be negative. Popularising the use of jute and kenaf products as alternatives to plastic in industrialised countries would benefit the reduction of plastic waste and its negative environmental effects. Additional production of jute and kenaf fibre, which are already available in major bast fibre producing countries like India and Bangladesh, could meet the demand for fibre-based carrier bags. Population in South Asia is increasing ever than a faster rate, subsequently; food security, climate change, and capital intensive agro farming techniques are the prevailing challenges in this region. This is a tri-country penal analysis, Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, and the study covers the data throughout (1973–2020). This study has used modern farm input data besides demographic variables in the study. In this study, we use panel data set, ARDL (PMG) approach, autoregressive distributed lag model pooled mean group, which is an extensively dynamic modeling technique for heterogeneous data. The results of the study explore that transition in the demographic pattern in Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh is the real cause of low crop productivity and land intensification. Technology innovation is the only ray of hope to fulfill the food demand of the future ahead and climate agriculture practices can hamper the further deterioration of the small farmlands. Flow modification pursuing dams is widely found. Some works also focused on its impact on floodplain wetland hydrology. However, how this change can pose an impact on habitat conditions, ecological conditions, and trophic state is also a matter of investigation. The very least attention has been paid to this so far. Therefore, the present study focused on these, taking the dam-induced Lower Tangon river basin of India and Bangladesh as a case. The degree of flow alteration in the river was presented in a heat map. Multi-parametric machine learning (ML) approaches were applied to model hydrological instability and habitat condition. The ecological consequences like evaluating eco-deficit using flow duration curve (FDC) approach, trophic state using trophic state index (TSI), fish habitat zone using image-based hydrological parameters, etc. were measured. The study exhibited that after damming, the degree of river flow modification was about 41%. Consequently, the wetland hydrological instability and habitat conditions were degraded. In the post-dam period, > 50% of wetland area was lost, and hydrological instability was enhanced considerably over wider parts of the wetland. Habitat conditions of the existing wetland also witnessed fragility (poor and very poor areas increased by about 22.23 and 9.34%). As a result of this, adverse ecological responses were found. For instance, the eco-deficit area was increased by 36.19%, a good proportion (100%) of wetlands was witnessed the transformation of TSI from oligotrophic to mesotrophic state, and optimum fish habitat area was declined. The ecological strength map integrating all the cause-effect model parameters showed that good ecological strength was reduced from 49 to 2% in the post-dam. The urbanisation process moves quickly in emerging nations like India and Bangladesh, transforming natural landscapes into unsustainable landscapes. Consequently, growing development has had a significant impact on agricultural land as a natural environment. Moreover, there is a scarcity of research on fragmentation probability modelling in the extant literature. Thus, by combining random forest (RF) and bagging with the datasets which are multi-temporal in a GIS framework, the probability of fragmentation of LULC at Jangipur subdivision in India and Bangladesh can be modelled. Parallelepiped, Mohalnobis distance, support vector machines (SVM), spectral angle mapper (SAM), and artificial neural networks (ANN) classifiers were used for LULC classification, where SVM (Kappa coefficient: 0.87) surpassed other classifiers. The LULC maps for 1990, 2000, 2010, and 2020 were created using the best classifier (SVM). During this time, the built-up area grew from 23.769 to 158.125 km2. Then, using an ANN-based cellular automata model, the future LULC map for 2030 was predicted (CA-ANN). In 2030, the built-up area would be 201.58 km2. Then the matrices of class and landscape were taken out of the LULC maps utilising FRAGSTAT software and included the patch number (NP), largest patch index (LPI), edge density (ED), contagion index (percentage) (CONTAG), perimeter and area (P/A), aggregation index (AI), landscape percentage (PLAND), the area of class (CA), patch density (PD), edge in total (TE), total core area (TCA), and largest shape index (LSI). The validation results revealed that bagging (0.915 = AUC) and RF (0.874 = AUC) are capable of assessing fragmentation probability, with the bagging model having the greatest precision level of the two. Almost 20% of the total LULC was in a high and very high zone of fragmentation vulnerability, necessitating the use of direct measures to safeguard it. Evaluation of the importance of ecosystem services (ES) of various wetlands is well reported with global and regional level research, but the degree to which spatial-temporal variations in water richness (availability of water) have had an effect on ES has not yet been examined. The present work is intended to investigate the influence of wetland fragmentation due to damming on wetland water richness and the impact of changes in water richness on the ecosystem service value (ESV) of the wetland-dominated rivers of the lower Punarbhaba Basin, India, and Bangladesh, as the case. Water richness models of pre- and post-dam periods have been constructed based on four hydro-ecological parameters (hydro-period, depth of water, consistency of water appearance, and wetland size) following the semi-quantitative analytic hierarchy process (AHP). ESV of different wetland types, with and without considering water richness effect, has been computed. The result indicates that the overall wetland area decreased from 73,563 to 52,123 km2 during the post-dam period. Approximately 53.8% of the high water-rich region is decreased. Total wetland ESV has been lowered by 63.4% from 1989 to 2019, with an average reduction rate of 2%. This is mainly due to the squeezing of the wetland area during the post-dam period. If the impact of water richness on ESV is considered, the scenario is found to be very distinct. Total ESV of various ESV areas amounted to $33 million during the pre-dam period and is reduced to $19.71 million during the post-dam period. If compared to the total ESV of the wetland without considering the effect of water richness, the calculated ESV gap was $105 million in pre-dam and $38 million in post-dam period indicating a widening of the gap. This study presents a country-specific analysis for three developing countries (Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh) to determine the interaction effect of institutional quality and economic growth along with other control variables (foreign direct investment and renewable energy) on CO2 emissions. This research uses an auto regressive distributed lag (ARDL) model for quarterly data ranging from 1996Q1 to 2016Q4. The findings show that the interaction cause of economic growth and institutional quality on CO2 emissions is not homogeneous in developing countries. In India and Bangladesh, the modifying role of institutional quality is evident to reducing CO2 emissions but in Pakistan, this interacting effect increases CO2 emissions. The findings confirm an inverted U-shaped EKC in Pakistan and Bangladesh but not significant in India. The independent role of GDP and institutional quality significantly reduces CO2 emissions in Pakistan and Bangladesh. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Arsenic (As) toxicity is a global phenomenon, and it is continuously threatening human life. Arsenic remains in the Earth's crust in the forms of rocks and minerals, which can be released into water. In addition, anthropogenic activity also contributes to increase of As concentration in water. Arsenic-contaminated water is used as a raw water for drinking water treatment plants in many parts of the world especially Bangladesh and India. Based on extensive literature study, adsorption is the superior method of arsenic removal from water and Fe is the most researched periodic element in different adsorbent. Oxides and hydroxides of Fe-based adsorbents have been reported to have excellent adsorptive capacity to reduce As concentration to below recommended level. In addition, Fe-based adsorbents were found less expensive and not to have any toxicity after treatment. Most of the available commercial adsorbents were also found to be Fe based. Nanoparticles of Fe-, Ti-, Cu-, and Zr-based adsorbents have been found superior As removal capacity. Mixed element-based adsorbents (Fe-Mn, Fe-Ti, Fe-Cu, Fe-Zr, Fe-Cu-Y, Fe-Mg, etc.) removed As efficiently from water. Oxidation of AsO33− to AsO43−and adsorption of oxidized As on the mixed element-based adsorbent occurred by different adsorbents. Metal organic frameworks have also been confirmed as good performance adsorbents for As but had a limited application due to nano-crystallinity. However, using porous materials having extended surface area as carrier for nano-sized adsorbents could alleviate the separation problem of the used adsorbent after treatment and displayed outstanding removal performances.
