Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a class of organic pollutants widely present in various environmental media. Some PAHs have carcinogenic, teratogenic, and mutagenic effects. Urban lakes are severely polluted by PAHs due to human activities. Longyang Lake (LL) and Moshui Lake (ML), which serve as entry lakes for Wuhan's "Six Lakes Connectivity" project, were chosen as the study areas to learn about the migration of PAHs. Water flows from LL to ML through the Mingzhu River. Multi-Media Mass Balance Model (MMBM) and fugacity fractions (ff) were used to characterize the migration of PAHs under the hydrological connectivity project. Compared to ff, the MMBM can describe the migration of PAHs in a more detailed and quantitative way. The concentration of PAHs in water of LL decreased from 36.5 ng L -1 to 26.59 ng L -1 over 43 days, while those in ML increased from 46.8 ng L -1 to 198.25 ng L -1 over 141 days. Sediment takes a longer time to decrease to stabilization. The concentration of PAHs in the sediment of LL decreased from 932 ng g -1 to 0.95 ng g -1 over 13.33 years, while those in ML decreased from 4812 ng g -1 to 1.04 ng g -1 over 16.96 years. The stabilized concentrations were consistently lower than the observed concentrations and fell below the modeled stabilized concentrations obtained in the unconnected case (2170 ng L -1 in water and 40.81 ng g -1 in sediment). The MMBM showed that PAHs in the lake are mainly exported through runoff. However, modeling results indicated that upstream LL did not increase total PAHs concentrations in the ML because the output from ML was significantly higher. Sediment parameters sensitively influenced the results of the model. Microplastics (MPs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have been found in all environment matrices and are of concern worldwide. In this study, PAHs were determined in Baiyangdian Lake, China, and the effects of MPs on the migration of PAHs at the lake interfaces were analyzed. The average abundances of detected MPs were 9595 items m -3 for water and 1023 items kg -1 for sediment. The detected MPs were polyamide 6, polypropylene, polyethylene, and polyethylene terephthalate. The average Σ 16 PAHs in the water, sediment, and air were 1338 ng L -1 , 751 ng g -1 dry weight, and 395 ng m -3 , respectively. At the air-water interface, naphthalene, and phenanthrene volatilized from water to air, whereas benzo(b)fluoranthene, benzo(k)fluoranthene, and dibenzo(a,h)anthracene deposited from air to water. The fugacity fraction between sediment and bottom water ranged from 0.88 to 0.99, which indicated net volatilization at the water-sediment interface. The adsorption capacities of the four MPs for the PAHs ranged from 39.4 to 99.8 μg g -1 with a desorption efficiency range of 0.01%-44.3% under oscillation. According to the distribution of PAHs on the MPs, the exchange fluxes of PAHs at the water-air and sediment-water interfaces were recalculated. Imidacloprid (IMI), a leading neonicotinoid insecticide, is widely used in China. Nevertheless, owing to its high toxicity to pollinators, regulatory scrutiny of its usage has increased in recent years. Despite this, no relevant issues have been announced in China, and its usage continues to rise. In this study, we systematically reviewed the development history, pollution characteristics, and environmental problems associated with IMI in China, which is imperative to promote its green development. The results show that most IMI products (97.1%) in China are registered for agricultural use. Owing to its extensive use and strong migration ability in different environmental matrices, IMI has been broadly detected in multiple environmental media. The average detection rate (DR) of IMI in soils, ambient water, and sediments were 90.7%, 81.3% and 84.5%, respectively, and the corresponding concentrations were 54.6 ± 83.8 ng/g dry weight (dw), 32.8 ± 103 ng/L, and 1.7 ± 2.9 ng/g dw, respectively, indicating high IMI abundance in multiple environmental media in China. The spatiotemporal distribution of IMI was generally determined by its application modes, transport, and degradation rates. IMI is commonly overused in China, leading to the development of high IMI resistance in many pests, and a high DR of IMI in food, drinking water, and human bodies. Microplastics (MPs) pollution has emerged as a global concern. To mitigate the potential threats by MPs, particularly to coastal regions, it is crucial to comprehend the environmental behavior of MPs and their affiliated chemicals. In the present study, we collected floating MPs using a Manta net (0.33 mm mesh size) in a one-year sampling event in 2022 from the eight major estuaries in the Pearl River Delta, China, and also from five coastal sites in August and December in the same year. Nineteen linear alkylbenzenes (∑ 19 LAB) and 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (∑ 16 PAH) affiliated with MPs were measured. The mean concentrations of MPs-affiliated ∑ 19 LAB and ∑ 16 PAH were 6710 (range: 3400-12300) and 5310 (range: 817-19,600) ng g -1 , respectively, at the estuarine sites, and were 4920 (range: 2400-7600) and 2610 (range: 911-7890) ng g -1 , respectively, at the coastal sites. Significant correlations were found between logarithmic MPs-water partition coefficients (log K pw ) and logarithmic suspended particulate matter-water partition coefficients (log K d ) values for LABs and PAHs, indicating analogous partitioning dynamics for MPs and suspended particulate matter with water. The annual riverine outflows were 1170 and 414 g for ∑ 19 LAB and ∑ 16 PAH, respectively. Although the riverine outflows of LABs and PAHs carried by MPs remain negligible compared to those by suspended particulate matter, an upward trend was identified between 2018 and 2022. The environmental contamination of ultraviolet absorbents (UVAs) has attracted global attention for the persistence, bioaccumulation and ecotoxicity. However, little is known about the content and distribution characteristics of UVAs in agricultural soils, especially in facility agricultural soils. In this study, the contents and distribution characteristics of 16 UVAs were surveyed in agricultural facility soils (N = 61) and field soil samples (N = 61) from 27 provinces in China. The total content of 16 UVAs (Σ 16 UVAs) in facility soils (mean 64.2 ± 55.4 ng/g) was higher than that in field soils (mean 9.66 ± 7.66 ng/g), suggesting that UVAs in facility soils are associated with mulch film. The Σ 16 UVAs content in the soil mulched with biodegradable (PBAT) film was higher than that in the soil mulched with polyethylene (PE) film, which indicated that the UVA pollution in the soil mulched with biodegradable film was more serious. With the continuous promotion of the use of biodegradable films may pose a threat to soil and ecological health. Synthetic musks (SMs) commonly used in personal care products can accumulate in the estuarine environment, but influencing factors on their distribution at large-scale region remain largely unexplored. Herein, surface sediment samples from 18 main estuaries of China and two river outlets in the Yangtze River Estuary were collected to discern the spatial and temporal variations of SMs. Moreover, fourteen influencing factors consisting of natural and anthropogenic parameters were scrutinized and their significance were analyzed by using Spearman's rank correlation and Random Forest. The widespread distribution of SMs were observed in Chinese estuarine sediments with the levels ranging from < reporting limit to 28 ng g -1 on a basis of dry weight (mean: 3.5 ng g -1 ). Predominated polycyclic musks shared similar sources both spatially and temporally. Positive correlation was found between SMs and total organic carbon in sediments, whereas the SM distribution was strongly influenced by regional anthropogenic activities. Regional population density was the primary influencing factor, followed by gross domestic product per unit area and wet deposition of particulate matters. A good correlation between SMs and water quality category indicated SMs could serve as an indicator for water quality. Historical chlor-alkali production has led to substantial concentrations of persistent organic pollutant residues in the environment. This study systematically investigated the distribution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), chlorinated/brominated-PAHs (Cl/Br-PAHs), polychlorinated naphthalenes (PCNs), and hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) in sediment, lotus (Nelumbo nucifera), and fish samples from Ya-Er Lake, which is a site in China with historical chlor-alkali contamination. The average concentrations [(4.97-1.47) × 10 3  ng/g dry weight (dw)] of these pollutants in backfill sediments, which were dredged from the lake after chlor-alkali production stopped, were 2.68-70.87 times those in fresh lake sediments (0.622-218 ng/g dw) and reported concentrations in other areas. Correlation analyses indicated that Cl-PAHs, Br-PAHs, and PCNs likely originated from halogenation of parent PAHs in the study area, and the chlorination ratios were larger than those of bromination. The Cl (1/2/3) -PAHs/PAHs and Br (1) -PAHs/PAHs ratios were higher than those for PAHs with more halogen atoms. This contamination extended into the biota, with notable pollutant burdens found in lotus (Nelumbo nucifera, 0.305-77.3 ng/g dw) and even higher concentrations in fish (2.20-345 ng/g lipid weight). Estimated biological soil accumulation factors revealed significant enrichment in lotus organs (mean: 7.19) and fish muscle (mean: 10.65), especially the latter, which highlighted bioaccumulation and potential food chain transfer risks. The estimated daily intakes of PAHs, Cl/Br-PAHs, and HCBD through fish consumption currently pose negligible risks, while dietary intake of PCNs may present health concerns. Parabens, bisphenols (BPs), and triclosan (TCS) are common environmental phenols widely applied in industrial products, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products. They are endocrine disruptors and pervade the natural environment, causing significant detrimental impacts on ecosystems, including marine habitats. Therefore, in this study, 40 samples comprising coral polyps, algae, and sediments were collected from Sanya, Hainan Province, China, in which the presence and compositional profiles of parabens, BPs, and TCS were examined to identify their fate in the oceans. The results unveiled the ubiquitous occurrence of at least one paraben or bisphenol in all samples, with TCS detected in over 80% of cases. Notably, coral samples contained the most contaminants (median concentration: 9.42 ng/g dry weight-dw), followed by sediment samples (5.95 ng/g dw) and algal samples (3.58 ng/g dw). Attributed to their broadest application, methylparaben (MeP) and propylparaben (PrP) emerged as the primary paraben constituents. MeP displayed the highest median concentration in coral samples (4.42 ng/g dw), probably related to its high-water solubility and the filtration mechanism employed by the coral polyps during seawater intake. Intriguingly, bisphenol P (BPP) superseded bisphenol A (BPA) as the dominant bisphenol, especially in the algal samples, probably owing to the lipophilic character of BPP and the enhanced biodegradability of BPA within aquatic environments. The highest concentration of TCS (3.44 ng/g dw) was found in the sediment samples, associated with its long half-life in the sediments. Furthermore, the correlation between multiple parabens and TCS implies their co-use to augment antimicrobial efficacy. Future research should prioritize the examination of these phenols in diverse marine environmental media. E-waste recycling activities are a crucial emission source of organic pollutants, posing potential risks to the surrounding environment and human health. To understand the potential impact related to diverse e-waste dismantling activities, we investigated two categories of popular flame retardants (i.e., organophosphate esters (OPEs) and chlorinated paraffins (CPs) and their resultant possible ecological risk in 53 surface soil samples from Qingyuan, a well-known e-waste recycling region in South China. Varied concentrations of ΣOPEs (20.5-8720 ng/g) and ΣCPs (920-16800 ng/g) were observed at diverse dismantling sites, while relatively low levels of ΣOPEs (6.13-1240 ng/g) and ΣCPs (14.8-2870 ng/g) were found in surrounding soils. These results indicated that primitive e-waste dismantling processes were the primary emission source of OPEs and CPs in the studied area, with e-waste dumping and manual dismantling being the most important emission sources for OPEs and CPs. More importantly, CPs could be degraded/transformed into more toxic intermediates via dechlorination and decarbonization during the burning of e-waste. Chinese traditional smoked pork was contaminated with polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and chlorinated and brominated PAHs (ClPAHs and BrPAHs; XPAHs) during the smoking process. Therefore, our study investigated the concentrations, enrichment characteristics, and health risks associated with PAHs, as well as ClPAHs and BrPAHs in Chinese traditional smoked pork. The total concentrations of PAHs, ClPAHs and BrPAHs in traditional smoked pork ranged from 90.0 to 79200 ng/g fat weight (fw), 23.6-2340 pg/g fw and 0.550-200 pg/g fw, respectively, which were significantly higher than their levels found in raw pork. Additionally, the concentrations of PAHs and XPAHs in the surface of smoked pork were higher than those in the inner parts. High-ring PAHs exhibited a greater enrichment compared to low-ring PAHs, and BrPAHs exhibited greater enrichment ability than ClPAHs in smoked pork. Furthermore, the ability of individual congeners to migrate from the surface to the inner parts of the smoked pork were varied. When the smoking fuels were similar, a longer smoking time resulted in higher concentrations of PAHs and XPAHs in smoked pork, while casing effectively reduced their concentrations. The correlation between XPAH and parent PAH concentrations indicated that chlorination of PAHs was one of the primary formation mechanisms of some monochlorinated PAHs. Over half of the smoked pork samples posed a potential carcinogenic risk, particularly the surface samples. Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and their alternatives (e.g., dechlorane plus (DPs) and decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE)) are ubiquitous in various environmental media. However, limited data is available on these chemicals in edible fish species from the wide-open South China Sea (SCS). In the present study, ten legacy PBDEs and three substitutions (DBDPE and two DPs) were analyzed in 16 wild fish species sampled from the open SCS to investigate their spatial and species-specific variations. The results showed that the total concentrations of PBDEs, DBDPE, and DPs in fish samples were in the range of 1.69-47.6, not detected (nd) to 21.0, and nd to 3.80 ng/g lipid weight (lw), respectively. BDEs 47, 209 and 100 were the dominant target PBDE congeners, representing 49.2%, 17.2% and 9.93% of the total PBDE concentrations, respectively. Higher concentrations of PBDEs, DBDPE, and DPs were found in fish species from the Wanshan Archipelago compared to those from the Mischief Reef and the Yongxing Island, suggesting the significant influence of anthropogenic activities. Species-specific differences in levels of PBDEs were observed, with the order of bathydemersal > demersal > pelagic ≈ reef-associated > benthopelagic species. The average f anti value of all fish samples was 0.68, suggesting commercial DP products as a contamination source. The levels of PBDEs, DPs, and DBDPE in fish samples were relatively low compared with those from other locations around the globe. Contaminant accumulation in organisms can be influenced by both biological traits and environmental conditions. However, delineating the main factors affecting contaminant burdens in organisms remains challenging. Here, we conducted an initial investigation into the impact of diet and habitat on the accumulation of short- (SCCPs) and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) in Indo-Pacific humpback dolphins (2003-2020, n = 128) from the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), a highly polluted estuary in China. The detected levels of SCCPs (5897 ± 3480 ng g -1 lw) and MCCPs (13,960 ± 8285 ng g -1 lw) in blubber samples of humpback dolphin are the highest among recorded values marine mammals. Both SCCPs and MCCPs exhibited biomagnification factor values exceeding 1, suggesting their biomagnification potential within the dolphins and their diet. Quantitative diet analysis using the dolphin fatty acid signatures revealed that humpback dolphins inhabiting the western PRE consumed a larger proportion of carnivorous fish than those from the eastern PRE. However, spatial analysis showed that humpback dolphins in the western PRE contained lower SCCP/MCCP concentrations than those from the eastern PRE. Organic ultraviolet filters (OUVFs) are extensively incorporated into both cosmetic items and industrial products and have been commonly found in water ecosystems. This study aims to examine the environmental levels, sources, ecological and human health risks of 14 commonly used OUVFs both in coastal water and beach deposit samples collected from the nearshore regions of Hainan Island and the South China Sea. This is first study highlighting the contamination of OUVFs in Hainan Island and utilizing economic and tourism data to confirm the potential source of OUVF pollution in costal aquatic and coastal ecosystem. Along the coastal tourist regions of Hainan Island, the median concentrations in coastal waters and beach deposits of these OUVFs fall within the range from 1.2 to 53.2 ng/L and 0.2-17.0 ng/g dw, respectively. In coastal water and beach deposit, the concentration of BP-3 was the highest, with median concentrations of 53.2 ng/L and 17.0 ng/g dw, respectively. Regarding human health risks, the daily intake of all 14 OUVFs through swimming was found to be 40-48 ng/kg/day. Ecological risk assessment indicates that BP-3 presents a medium risk for marine microalgae with a concurrent low risk for corals. As emerging organic contaminants, Polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCZs) have caused wide concerns due to their wide distribution in the environment and dioxin-like toxicity. Nevertheless, research on the distribution and formation mechanisms of PHCZs in polluted environment of printing and dyeing plants is lacking. Here, 11 PHCZs were detected in samples from the Cao'e River, China, a typical river heavily polluted by printing and dyeing. The PHCZs concentrations in the soil, sediment, and water samples were 8.3-134.5 ng/g (median: 26.3 ng/g), 17.7-348.8 ng/g (median: 64.2 ng/g), and 1.2-41.4 μg/L (median: 4.8 μg/L), respectively. 3,6-dichlorocarbazole was the dominant congener, proved by both analysis results and formation mechanisms. PHCZ migration patterns in water-sediment systems indicated that highly halogenated PHCZs tend to be transferred to sediment. Furthermore, PHCZs are persistent, can undergo long-range transport, and pose high risks to aquatic organisms by models. PHCZs released from dye production into environment can be form through halogenation of carbazole or PHCZs formed during the dye synthesis, heating of halogenated indigo dyes, and photolysis of highly halogenated PHCZs. The extensive utilization of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) has led to their pervasive presence in the environment, resulting in contamination of aquatic products. Prolonged exposure to PFASs has been linked to direct hepatic and renal damage, along with the induction of oxidative stress, contributing to a spectrum of chronic ailments. Despite the recent surge in popularity of red swamp crayfish as a culinary delicacy in China, studies addressing PFASs' exposure and associated health risks from their consumption remain scarce. To address this gap, our study investigated the PFASs' content in 85 paired edible tissue samples sourced from the five primary red swamp crayfish breeding provinces in China. The health risks associated with dietary exposure were also assessed. Our findings revealed widespread detection of PFASs in crayfish samples, with short-chain perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs) exhibiting the highest concentrations. Notably, the total PFAS concentration in the hepatopancreas (median: 160 ng/g) significantly exceeded that in muscle tissue (5.95 ng/g), as did the concentration of every single substance. The hazard quotient of perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) via consuming crayfish during peak season exceeded 1. In this case, a potential total non-cancer health risk of PFASs, which is mainly from the hepatopancreas and associated with PFHxS, is also observed (hazard index>1). Thus, it is recommended to avoid consuming the hepatopancreas of red swamp crayfish. In urban and industrial regions, sedimentary mercury (Hg) serves as the crucial indicator for Hg pollution, posing potential risks to ecology and human health. The physicochemical processes of Hg in aquatic environments are influenced by various factors such as anthropogenic emissions and aquatic environmental impacts, making it challenging to quantify the drivers of total mercury (THg) variations. Here, we analyzed the spatiotemporal variations, quantified driving factors, and assessed accumulation risks of sedimentary THg from the mainstream of a typical urban river (Haihe River). THg in the urban region (37-3237 ng g -1 ) was significantly higher (t-test, p < 0.01) than in suburban (71-2317 ng g -1 ) and developing regions (156-916 ng g -1 ). The sedimentary THg in suburban and developing regions increased from 2003 to 2018, indicating the elevated atmospheric deposition of Hg. Together with the temperature, grain size of sediments, total organic carbon (TOC), the pH and salinity of water, 40 components of parent and substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) were first introduced to quantify the driver of sedimentary THg based on generalized additive model. Results showed that anthropogenic emissions, including three PAHs components (31%) and TOC (63%), accounted for 94% of sedimentary THg variations. The aquatic environmental impacts accounted for 5% of sedimentary THg variations. The geo-accumulation index of THg indicated moderate to heavy accumulation in the urban region. A total of 138 samples including urban soil, surface dust, atmospheric dustfall, and commercial food were collected from the semi-arid industrial city of Lanzhou in Northwest China, and 22 phthalate esters (PAEs) were analyzed in these samples by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for the pollution characteristics, potential sources, and combined exposure risks of PAEs. The results showed that the total concentration of 22 PAEs (Ʃ 22 PAEs) presented surface dust (4.94 × 10 4  ng/g) ≫ dustfall (1.56 × 10 4  ng/g) ≫ food (2.14 × 10 3  ng/g) ≫ urban soil (533 ng/g). Di-n-butyl phthalate (DNBP), di-isobutyl phthalate, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), and di-isononyl phthalate/di-isodecyl phthalate were predominant in the environmental media and commercial food, being controlled by priority (52.1%-65.5%) and non-priority (62.1%) PAEs, respectively. Elevated Ʃ 22 PAEs in the urban soil and surface dust was found in the west, middle, and east of Lanzhou. Principal component analysis indicated that PAEs the urban soil and surface dust were related with the emissions of products containing PAEs, atmosphere depositions, and traffic and industrial emissions. PAEs in the foods were associated with the growth and processing environment. The health risk assessment of United States Environmental Protection Agency based on the Chinese population exposure parameters indicated that the total exposure dose of 22 PAEs was from 0.111 to 0.226 mg/kg/day, which were above the reference dose (0.02 mg/kg/day) and tolerable daily intake (TDI, 0.05 mg/kg/day) for DEHP (0.0333-0.0631 mg/kg/day), and TDI (0.01 mg/kg/day) for DNBP (0.0213-0.0405 mg/kg/day), implying that the exposure of PAEs via multi-media should not be ignored; the total non-carcinogenic risk of six priority PAEs was below 1 for the three environmental media (1.21 × 10 -5 -2.90 × 10 -3 ), while close to 1 for food (4.74 × 10 -1 -8.76 × 10 -1 ), suggesting a potential non-carcinogenic risk of human exposure to PAEs in food; the total carcinogenic risk of BBP and DEHP was below 1 × 10 -6 for the three environmental media (9.13 × 10 -10 -5.72 × 10 -7 ), while above 1 × 10 -4 for DEHP in food (1.02 × 10 -4 ), suggesting a significantly carcinogenic risk of human exposure to DEHP in food. This study explored the levels, distribution, potential sources, ecological risks and estrogenic activities of 14 bisphenol analogues (BPs) in soil under eight land-use types in the megacity of Chengdu, China. Eleven BPs were detected in the soil samples and the total concentrations ranged from 32.3 to 570 ng/g d.w. Levels of bisphenol BP (BPBP) in the soil (up to 208 ng/g d.w.) only second to the most dominant compound bisphenol A (BPA) were found. Relatively higher Σ14BP accumulation in the soil was observed in the commercial and residential areas (median: 136 ng/g d.w. and 131 ng/g d.w.) compared with agricultural area (median: 67.5 ng/g d.w.). Source identification indicated the role of atmospheric particulate deposition and consecutive anthropogenic activities in BP emission. The ecotoxicity assessment implied that BPA, bisphenol S (BPS), bisphenol F (BPF) and bisphenol PH (BPPH) might pose low to medium risk to the ecosystem due to their extensive use and biological effects. Although global plastic distribution is at the heart of 21st century environmental concerns, little information is available concerning how organic plastic additives contaminate freshwater sediments, which are often subject to strong anthropogenic pressure. Here, sediment core samples were collected in the Rhone and the Rhine watersheds (France), dated using 137 Cs and 210 Pb xs methods and analysed for nine phthalates (PAEs) and seven organophosphate esters (OPEs). The distribution of these organic contaminants was used to establish a chronological archive of plastic additive pollution from 1860 (Rhine) and 1930 (Rhone) until today. Sediment grain size and parameters related to organic matter (OM) were also measured as potential factors that may affect the temporal distribution of OPEs and PAEs in sediments. Our results show that OPE and PAE levels increased continuously in Rhone and Rhine sediments since the first records. In both rivers, ∑PAEs levels (from 9.1 ± 1.7 to 487.3 ± 27.0 ng g -1 dry weight (dw) ± standard deviation and from 4.6 ± 1.3 to 65.2 ± 11.2 ng g -1 dw, for the Rhine and the Rhone rivers, respectively) were higher than ∑OPEs levels (from 0.1 ± 0.1 to 79.1 ± 13.7 ng g -1 dw and from 0.6 ± 0.1 to 17.8 ± 2.3 ng g -1 dw, for Rhine and Rhone rivers, respectively). In both rivers, di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) was the most abundant PAE, followed by diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), while tris (2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate (TCPP) was the most abundant OPE. No relationship was found between granulometry and additives concentrations, while organic matter helps explain the vertical distribution of PAEs and OPEs in the sediment cores. As novel contaminants, short-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs) and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (MCCPs) have been of great concern in the past several years. Shanghai was one of the provinces with the largest chlorinated paraffins (CPs) emission in China; nevertheless, there is currently little information on the human exposure to SCCPs and MCCPs, particularly MCCPs. In this study, 25 breast milk samples were collected in Shanghai from 2016 to 2017. The concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs were determined using two-dimensional gas chromatography coupled with orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC × GC-orbitrap-HRMS) to investigate their characteristics and assess the associated health risks for breast-fed infants. Compared with the previous studies in other areas, the current study presented the higher CPs concentrations, with median concentrations of SCCPs and MCCPs up to 771 and 125 ng/g lipid weight (lw), respectively. The exposure profiles of the CPs were characterized by C 10 and Cl 6-7 as the predominant congeners of SCCPs, while C 14 and Cl 7-9 were identified as the dominant groups of MCCPs. CP-42 and CP-52 were identified as potential sources of CPs found in breast milk samples collected in Shanghai. The concentrations of MCCPs exhibited a positive correlation (p value < 0.05) with the dietary consumption of meat and poultry. No significant positive correlations were observed for SCCPs and MCCPs with polychlorinated dibenzodioxins/furans (PCDD/Fs) congeners. In the past few decades, mercury (Hg) discharged into the coastal bays of China has significantly increased; however, long-term trends regarding the pollution status and sources of Hg in these bays have yet to be clear. Focusing on this issue, surface sediments and core sediments were collected in the Jiaozhou Bay (JZB), a typical bay highly affected by human activities in China, to analyze the concentrations and stable isotopic composition of Hg. Total mercury (THg) concentrations in surface sediment varied from 7 to 163 ng/g, with higher levels located in the eastern JZB, possibly attributed to intensive industrial and population density. THg in sediment cores 14 and 20 displayed fluctuating increasing trends from 1936 to 2019, reflecting the deterioration of Hg pollution. In contrast, THg in sediment core 28 near the river mouth exhibited a declining trend, possibly due to the river dam construction. Using a stable isotope mixing model, contributions of various sources (atmospheric, riverine, and industrial emissions) to Hg in the JZB were estimated. The results showed that industrial emissions were the main source (over 50%) of mercury in the JZB in 2019. Sediment cores recorded an increase in industrial Hg due to early industrialization and Reform and Opening-up before 2000. To explore contaminant concerns as a result of anthropogenic disturbance of the river system, this study provided the first extensive investigation of the contamination profiles, possible driving factors, and ecological risks of 40 target compounds including pharmaceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs), neonicotinoid pesticides (NNIs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in sediments of the whole Yangtze River (the world's third longest river). Although growing evidences have proved the wide presence of organophosphate esters (OPEs) in marine environments, information on the tissue- and species-specific accumulation characteristics of these emerging pollutants in wild marine fish and the associated human exposure risks are currently lacking. Eleven OPEs were comprehensively investigated for their occurrence and tissue accumulation in 15 marine fish species and their living environment matrices (seawater and sediment) from the Beibu Gulf. The OPE concentrations were statistically higher in the liver (17.6-177 ng/g ww, mean 90.9 ± 52.1 ng/g ww) than those of muscle tissues (2.04-22.9 ng/g ww, mean 10.6 ± 5.6 ng/g ww). Tris (phenyl) phosphate (TPHP) was the most predominant OPE congeners in fish liver, and tris(2-chloropropyl) phosphate (TCIPP) and tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) were dominant OPEs in the muscle. The results suggested different OPE profiles occurred between the tissues. The median logarithmic bioaccumulation factors (BAFs) of TPHP in the muscle and liver, and TCEP in muscle were higher than the regulatory benchmark value (BCF >3.7), indicating very strong bioaccumulation. Carnivorous benthic fish appear to potentially accumulate TPHP, while pelagic and omnivory fish tend to accumulate TCIPP and TCEP. Except for proteins and phospholipids, no significant relationships were found between OPE levels and other biological properties of the studied fish. The results implied that the species-specific accumulation of OPEs mainly attributed to habitat and feeding habit rather than the difference of biochemical composition among species. Metabolism may have a significant effect on the bioaccumulation of OPEs in marine fish. Plasticizers such as phthalate esters (PAEs) are commonly used in various consumer and industrial products. This widespread use raises valid concerns regarding their ubiquity in the environment and potential negative impacts. The present study investigates the distribution of eight common plasticizers in the largest European lagoon (Curonian Lagoon) located in the SE Baltic Sea. The concentration levels of plasticizers in the water column, containing both the dissolved and particulate-bound phases, and in sediments were evaluated to reveal seasonal patterns in distribution and potential effects on the lagoon ecosystem. A total of 24 water samples and 48 sediment samples were collected across all four seasons from the two dominant sedimentary areas within the lagoon. The average concentration of total PAEs in the water column ranged from 1 to 21 μg L -1 , whereas sediment concentration varied from 5.0 to 250 ng g -1 . The distribution of plasticizers was influenced by the patterns in hydrodynamics and water circulation within the lagoon. The confined south-central area contained a higher amount of PAEs in sediments, accounting for most of the lagoon's plasticizer accumulation. More than 7 tons of plasticizers are stored in the 5 upper centimetres of sediment, with over 3 tons persisting for more than five years. Di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), Diisobutyl phthalate (DiBP), and Dibutyl phthalate (DnBP) were the most abundant PAE congeners, with DEHP posing the highest risk quotient to algae, based on water column concentration. The road dust and roadside soil can act as both sinks and sources of hexachlorobutadiene (HCBD) and chlorobenzenes (CBzs), but comparative research on these two adjacent media is extremely limited. In this study, HCBD and CBzs were simultaneously analyzed in road dust and roadside soil samples from an area containing both industrial factories and residential communities in Eastern China. The road dust there was found to have 2-6 times higher contents of HCBD (mean 1.14 ng/g, maximum 6.44 ng/g) and ∑ Cl3-Cl6 CBzs (22.8 ng/g, 90.6 ng/g) than those in the roadside soil. The spatial distributions of HCBD and CBzs in road dusts were affected by various types of sources, showing no significant discrepancy among the sites. On the contrast, HCBD and CBzs contamination in roadside soils occurring near several factories were strongly correlated to their industrial point sources. Risk assessments showed, at current contamination levels in the road dust and roadside soil, HCBD and CBzs are not likely to induce carcinogenic or non-carcinogenic risks to residents in the studied area. Nevertheless, road dust ingestion, as the major exposure pathway of HCBD and CBzs, should be avoided to reduce the exposure risk. Tree bark is a useful bioindicator of atmospheric pollution. It is specially suitable for airborne perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) investigation due to persistence of ionic PFASs. The present work firstly systematically studied tree barks as a bioindicator of airborne PFASs. Comparison with the regular active and passive samplers found barks could produce long-term measurement of airborne PFASs, and could record the historical emission of PFASs with retrospective time frame as long as decades. Factors, e.g. tree type, trunk diameter, and sampling depth, can affect PFAS accumulation in barks, and these factors should be kept consistent during sampling. In a study area spatial distribution of airborne PFASs can be obtained by interpolation of bark results, and the concerned region can be located. Properties of the emission sources can be characterized, and the potential sources can be tracked based on the bark results. Their contributions can be further estimated by the source appointment strategies. In the economically and industrially developed study area of the present study, eight cities of southern Jiangsu Province of China, total ionic PFAS concentration of camphor bark samples collected in 34 sites was 0.44-359 ng/g dw (dry weight), dominated by perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids (PFCAs). Two types of possible sources were characterized as with long-chained PFCAs and PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid) as the main components respectively. The sources were appointed as fluoropolymer manufacturing and textile industries, the important PFAS application fields, and their relative contribution was estimated as 32.5% and 67.5% respectively. The present study can provide useful advice to the method framework of using barks for long-term occurrence investigation, concerned region location, and emission source appointment of airborne PFASs in a study area. Mercury (Hg), especially methylmercury (MeHg), which is highly neurotoxic, is a global pollutant that can affect human health because of its accumulation in aquatic products. Poyang Lake, an inland lake in China, has been significantly affected by human activity, yet there is limited understanding of local mercury contamination and potential exposure pathways to humans. In this study, we explored the risks of mercury exposure by sampling sediments, plants, and aquatic organisms in the lake and surrounding areas and analyzing total Hg (THg) and MeHg levels. Sediment sampling was conducted at the main lake, rivers, rice paddies, and fishponds. Two dominant species of plants and 15 species of aquatic organisms were sampled and analyzed. We assessed the characteristics of mercury in sediments using the geo-accumulation index (I geo ), mercury exposure using the biomagnification factor (BMF) and biota sediment accumulation factor (BSAF), and risks using thresholds for adverse effects. The highest THg concentrations (137.04 ± 44.3 ng g -1 dw) were detected in the main lake sediments, whereas the highest MeHg concentrations (0.47 ± 0.6 ng g -1 dw) were detected in fishpond sediments. Mercury accumulation in the main lake sediments could be assessed as contaminated (I geo > 0: 81.6%). Yellow catfish had the highest mercury concentration (THg 770.69 ± 199.7 ng g -1 dw; MeHg 741.93 ± 168.8 ng g -1 dw). Piscivores were adversely affected by carnivorous fish (50.8%), but all fish concentrations did not exceed the food safety standards recommend by China and the WHO. The mercury exposure results revealed significant Hg biomagnification and enrichment (BMF >1: 94.55%; BSAF max  = 1218). Human skin wipes from 30 participants, air, dust, and food items were collected from a former electronic waste site in South China to provide a comprehensive understanding of residents' exposure to halogenated flame retardants (HFRs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The total concentration of halogenated organic pollutants (HOPs) in the dust, air, food and skin wipes ranged 240-25000 ng/g, 130-2500 pg/m 3 , 0.08-590 ng/g wet weight, and 69-28000 ng/m 2 , respectively. Wild fish, vegetables, and air were dominated by PCBs, whereas dust, livestock, and poultry were dominated by HFRs. The HOP concentrations were several orders of magnitude higher in local foodstuffs than in market foodstuffs. The chemical composition on the forehead was remarkably different from that on the hand. The importance of different exposure routes depends on the residents' food choices, except decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE). For residents who consumed a 100-foot diet (mainly egg) and local wild fish, diet ingestion overwhelmed other exposure routes, and PCBs were mainly contributed by fish and HFRs by egg. For residents who consumed market food, the dermal absorption of most PCB congeners and dust ingestion of highly brominated flame retardants were relatively prominent. Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake in China, faced severe ecological degradation in the past decade. Combined pollution of multi-pollutants may be one of the contributing factors. However, the characteristics of combined pollution and the ecological risks are still not clear. In this study, we used Polar Organic Chemical Integrative Sampler (POCIS), In Situ Bioassay Passive Sampling Device (ISBPSD) and conventional sampling methods, to study the toxic pollutants levels and the combined biological toxicity effects. The results showed that high levels of organochlorine pesticides (OCPs, averaged 162 ng/g) and polycyclic musk (PCM, averaged 53.6 ng/g) residues, as well as some metals such as nickel (Ni), lead (Pb) concentrations exceeded the relevant standard level in the sediment. The risk of combined pollution in the water was relatively low, but high risk was found in the sediments. According to the ISBPSD studies, the survival rates of species in the water and sediments were only 10.0-45.0% and 1.67-11.7% respectively, which was much lower than that reported in other typical basins of China. Bioaccumulation and human health risk assessment of Perfluoroalkyl acids (PFAAs) is important for pollutant hazard assessment. In this study, 26 aquatic organisms were collected from the Yangtze River estuary, the PFAAs concentrations in organisms were detected by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the trophic levels of organisms were constructed using nitrogen isotope analysis. The results showed that Perfluorobutane sulfonate (PFBS) was predominant in organisms with the mean concentration of 6.43 ± 8.21 ng/g ww. The biomagnification of organisms along the food chain was widespread, and the biomagnification factor (BMF) of perfluorooctane sulfonic (PFOS) was the most prominent. Trophic magnifcation factors (TMFs) of PFAAs were estimated in the marine food web, and TMFs >1 were observed in Perfluorodecanoic acid (PFDA), Perfluoroundecanoic acid (PFUnDA), Perfluorododecanoic acid (PFDoDA), and PFOS, indicating the biomagnifcation effects of these 4 individual PFAAs in organisms at Yangtze River estuary. The estimated daily intake (EDI) of PFBS was highest in adolescents aged 6-18 years, with EDIs of 18.9 ng/kg·bw/day for males and 14.0 ng/kg·bw/day for females. Soil environmental safety has received much attention during the past few decades due to its significance in agricultural production and human health. Special attention is required for soil pesticide residues and ecological risks. This study examined 197 soil samples from industrial, residential and agricultural areas for the presence of 12 organophosphorus pesticides (OPPs) and 8 synthetic pyrethroids (SYPs) in the 16 cities in Henan Province, and the center of CPUA, based on the Central Plains Urban Agglomeration (CPUA) concept proposed by China. The total average concentrations of ∑ 12 OPPs in industrial, residential and agricultural soils were 194, 217, 267 ng/g dry weight, and those of ∑ 8 SYPs were 26.8, 35.7, 25.5 ng/g dry weight, respectively. The two pollutants with the greatest concentrations in the soils were malathion and fenpropathrin, respectively, the dominant components of OPPs and SYPs. The soil environmental carrying capacity (SECC) analysis, representing the maximum residual load that can be supported, shows that acephate and cyhalothrin were overloaded, with a predicted period of over 500 years. Among the 16 cities of CPUA, a higher frequency of high ecological risk could be observed only in Shangqiu. The OPPs in children had total non-carcinogenic risk values of more than 1.0. Tidal flats are formed valuably resources by the interaction of terrestrial and marine processes. Aquaculture on tidal flats has brought significant economic profits, but the over usage of antibiotics has resulted in the prevalence antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) which pose serious threats to ecosystems. However, ARG abundances and bacterial community assemblies in the overlying water and sediments of tidal flat aquaculture areas have not been fully explored. Thus, antibiotic concentrations, ARG abundances, microbial communities and the influences of environmental factors in the Jiangsu tidal flat aquaculture ponds were investigated using high-throughput sequencing and qPCR. The concentrations of antibiotics at sampling ranged from not detectable to 2322.4 ng g -1 , and sulfamethazine and ciprofloxacin were the dominant antibiotics. The sul1 and sul2 abundances were highest and the ARG abundances were higher in sediment than in water. Meanwhile, bacterial community diversities and structures were significantly different (P < 0.05) between water and sediment samples. Network analysis identified Sphingomonadacear, Pseudomonas, and Xanthobacteraceae as potential ARG-carrying pathogens. A positive correlation between ARGs and intI1 indicated that horizontal gene transfer occurred in water, while antibiotics and TN significantly influenced ARG abundances in sediment. Neutral modeling showed that deterministic and stochastic processes contributed most to the bacterial community assemblies of water and sediment samples, respectively. In this work, 45 cosmetic samples were collected from China, and 27 target per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) were analyzed by ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry. PFAS were found in all samples, including the products marketed for pregnant women, and the total concentrations of PFAS measured in each sample were in the range of 4.05 - 94.9 ng/g. Short-chain perfluorinated carboxylic acids were the dominant compounds contributing to over 60% of the total content. Perfluorobutanoic acid, with high placental transfer efficiency, was the major PFAS in cosmetics for pregnant women. Three emerging PFAS, 2-perfluorohexyl ethanoic acid, 3-perfluoropentyl propanoic acid (5:3) and perfluoro-2-propoxypropanoic acid, were also identified in the cosmetic samples at quantifiable levels. Significantly, positive correlations between individual PFAS were observed, indicating that there may be a common source for PFAS in these samples. Statistical analyses suggested that using plastic containers and precursor substances may be potential sources of PFAS in terminal products, and product aging may increase PFAS levels. From the PFAS analysis of the cosmetics, the margin of safety (MoS) and hazard quotient (HQ) were calculated to assess human health risks through dermal exposure by using these products. Phthalic acid esters (PAEs) are typical industrial chemicals used in China. PAEs have received considerable attention because of their ubiquity and potential hazard to humans and the ecology. The spatiotemporal distributions of six PAEs in the surface sediments of the Songhua River in the spring (March), summer (July), and autumn (September) are investigated in this study. The total concentration of phthalic acid esters (∑ 6 PAEs) ranges from 1.62 × 10 2  ng g -1 dry weight (dw) to 3.63 × 10 4  ng g -1 ·dw, where the amount in the spring is substantially higher (p < 0.01) than those in the autumn and summer. Seasonal variations in PAEs may be due to rainfall and temperature. The ∑ 6 PAEs in the Songhua River's upper reaches are significantly higher than those in the middle and lower reaches (p < 0.05). Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) and di(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) are the two most abundant PAEs. The ecological hazard of five PAEs is assessed using the hazard quotient method. DBP and DEHP pose moderate or high ecological risks to aquatic organisms at various trophic levels. PAEs originate primarily from industrial, agricultural, and domestic sources. Absolute principal components-multiple linear regression results indicate that agricultural sources are the most dominant contributor to the ∑ 6 PAEs (53.7%). Biofilms play a significant role in the biogeochemical processing of organic matter and the environmental fate of emerging pollutants. In this study, we investigated the occurrence and distribution of 32 endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs), including 24 environmental corticosteroids (ECs) and 8 environmental estrogens (EEs), in natural biofilms from the Pearl River system. Their association between biofilms and water and environmental risk were assessed. The ECs and EEs ubiquitously occurred in the biofilms, ranging from <0.61-6.57 ng/g and <0.8-2535 ng/g, respectively. Temporally, there was no obvious variance in either ECs or EEs in the biofilms during the winter and summer, and their concentrations exhibited a spatial trend of upward to midstream, descending downstream, and then seaward attenuation at the estuary. For ECs and EEs, the similar levels of field-derived bioconcentration factors (BCFs) (logarithm values: 2.42-2.86 and 2.72-2.98, respectively) and biofilm organic carbon-normalized partitioning coefficients (K boc ) (3.39-3.69 and 3.35-3.95) suggest the comparable potential of accumulation and sorption by biofilms between these two classes of EDCs. In addition, higher values of BCF and K boc for the EEs were found in winter and were correspondingly comparable to their distribution coefficients (K d ) and K oc derived from suspended particles and sediment, revealing that biofilms are a competitive environmental compartment for capturing EDCs, particularly during the mature period. A positive logK boc -logK ow relationship suggests hydrophobic partitioning as a primary interaction mechanism between the biofilm and EEs. Moreover, high risks from biofilm-associated ECs and EEs might have posed to the fluvial ecosystem. This study provides original insights into the occurrence, fate, and risk of ECs in natural biofilms for the first time and demonstrates that biofilms may not only serve as reservoirs but also serve as sentinels for fluvial EDC contamination. The pollution of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and halogenated PAHs (Cl/Br-PAHs) caused by electronic waste dismantling activities have attracted considerable attention. The present study investigated the emissions and formation of PAHs and Cl/Br-PAHs based on the combustion of printed circuit boards simulating electronic waste dismantling process. The emission factor of ΣPAHs was 648 ± 56 ng/g, which was much lower than that of ΣCl/Br-PAHs (8.80 × 10 4  ± 9.14 × 10 3  ng/g). From 25 to 600 °C, the emission rate of ΣPAHs reached a sub-peak of 7.39 ± 1.85 ng/(g•min) at 350 °C, then increased gradually with the fastest rate of 19.9 ± 21.8 ng/(g•min) at 600 °C, whereas that of ΣCl/Br-PAHs was the fastest at 350 °C with a rate of 597 ± 106 ng/(g•min), then decreased gradually. The present study suggested that the formation pathways of PAHs and Cl/Br-PAHs are by de novo synthesis. Low molecular weight PAHs were readily partitioned into gas and particle phases, whereas high molecular weight fused PAHs were only detected in oil phase. However, the proportion of Cl/Br-PAHs in particle and oil phases were different from that of gas phase, whereas similar to that of the total emission. In addition, PAH and Cl/Br-PAH emission factors were used to estimate the emission intensity of pyrometallurgy project in Guiyu Circular Economy Industrial Park, and it was shown that approximately 1.30 kg PAHs and 176 kg Cl/Br-PAHs would be emitted annually. The presence of 14 organophosphate esters (OPEs) in surface sediments from a typical fishing port agglomeration in Dalian, North China was investigated for the first time. Tris(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate (TEHP), triphenylphosphine oxide (TPPO), and tris(2-chloroethyl) phosphate (TCEP) dominated 12 detectable OPEs (∑OPEs), with concentrations ranging widely from 0.56 to 352 ng/g (dry weight basis). The ∑OPE levels in sediments varied significantly across fishing harbors of various grades, and within the same grade, highlighting uneven distribution of OPE sources and inputs to harbors. The first- and second-class fishing harbors had higher geometric mean of ∑OPE contents compared to center and natural harbors, reflecting higher OPE pollution in these areas. Although there were significant correlations among the OPE congeners with high detection frequencies, the composition patterns of sediment OPEs varied considerably among fishing ports. The sediments in the center and first-class harbors had higher abundance of non-chlorinated OPEs (non-Cl-OPEs), suggesting heterogeneity in source strength and pollution characteristics of Cl- and non-Cl-OPEs in fishing ports. The distribution of OPEs in sediments was weakly associated with sediment organic carbon, but not socioeconomic variables, indicating complex controlling factors of their distributions in port sediments. The ecological risks of sediment OPEs were evaluated, and while OPE accumulations ranged broadly (7-684 ng/cm2), exposure hazards were negligible. Polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCZs) are a class of emerging environmental contaminants formed by the substitution of hydrogen on carbazole (CZ) benzene rings with halogens (Cl, Br, I) with potential dioxin-like toxicity, and they have been frequently detected in various environmental media and organisms recently. Nevertheless, co-research of CZ/PHCZs with PAHs is very limited. In addition, I-PHCZs, which are believed to be much more toxic than CZ, Cl-PHCZs and Br-PHCZs, have a few data in sediments previously. The concentration and distribution of CZ/PHCZs and PAHs were analyzed in 18 surface sediments of Bohai Bay, China. There is a significant correlation (R = 0.64, P＜0.05) between PHCZs and PAHs, and principal component analysis (PCA) also indicating that they may have a certain similarity in origin. Additionally, total CZ and PHCZs was up to 230.57 ng/g dw in the studied samples, which was approximately 1-2 orders of magnitude lower than PAHs and other common persistent organic pollutants (POPs). The compositions of the CZ/PHCZs in our study were dominated by CZ (2.74-18.28, median 2.92 ng/g dw), 3,6-dichlorocarbazole (n.d-6.78, median 0.97 ng/g dw) and 3,6-iodocarbazole (n.d-12.68, median 1.65 ng/g dw). Results of this study discovered the varying origins of CZ and PHCZs and/or a complexity of anthropogenic influences and natural sources processes, and revealed a wide distribution of CZ/PHCZs across the studied. The short- and medium-chain chlorinated paraffins (SCCPs and MCCPs) are complex mixtures of persistent compounds used mainly as plastic additives. They can have a negative impact on human health as they are suspected of disrupting the endocrine system and being carcinogenic, which is why monitoring their presence in the human environment is desirable. Clothing was selected for this study because they are produced in large quantities worldwide and the final products are worn for long periods throughout the day, in direct contact with human skin. The concentrations of CPs in this type of sample have not been sufficiently reported. We determined SCCPs and MCCPs in 28 samples of T-shirts and socks by gas chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry in negative chemical ionisation mode (GC-NCI-HRMS). CPs were found above the limits of quantification in all samples, with concentrations ranging from 33.9 to 5940 ng/g (mean 1260 ng/g, median 417 ng/g). The samples with a substantial proportion of synthetic fibres contained higher CP concentrations (22 times higher mean for SCCPs and 7 times higher mean for MCCPs) than garments composed exclusively of cotton. Finally, the effect of washing in the washing machine was investigated. The individual samples behaved differently: (i) excessively emitting CPs; (ii) being contaminated; (iii) retaining the original CP levels. Benzotriazole ultraviolet stabilizers (BZT-UVs), substituted diphenylamine antioxidants (S-DPAs), and synthetic phenolic antioxidants (SPAs) are three types of synthetic additive pollutants that are received increasing attention in the recent decade. In this study, a total of twenty-seven target analytes were measured in sediment cores and surface sediments collected from a lake with long sedimentary history. All target analytes were detected in the sediment samples, and mean values of the total ∑BZT-UVs, ∑S-DPAs and ∑SPAs concentrations were 220 ± 552 ng/g dry weight (d.w.), 20.8 ± 27.9 ng/g d. w., and 95.8 ± 146 ng/g d. w., respectively. Based on the dating results of two sediment cores, the total concentrations of BZT-UVs, S-DPA, and SPAs showed a fluctuating but overall increasing trend over time, which intuitively reflects the change of historical emissions. Meanwhile, fecal and sewage markers (i.e., sterols and pharmaceuticals, respectively) were jointly used to trace the probable sources of these pollutants. Results from the correlation and clustering analyses suggest that unregular fecal discharges and point-source domestic sewage need to be considered if pollution in the investigated area is to be controlled. Organophosphite antioxidants (OPAs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) are used as additives in food packaging. Because these chemicals have been found in various foods, they have caused increasing concern about potential health risks through food intake. Little information is available about the migration behaviors of OPAs and OPEs from single-use food packaging into food. In the present study, four OPAs and 23 OPEs were analyzed in paper and plastic single-use food packaging (n = 312), which are widely used for take-out food in China. The total concentrations of OPAs and OPEs in the packaging samples were 1966 and 189 ng/g, respectively. Tris (2,4-di-tert-butylphenyl) phosphite (AO168) was the dominant compound. OPAs and OPEs were present at higher concentrations in the plastic packaging than in the paper packaging. In a migration test, four OPAs and 15 OPEs were found in food simulants (4% acetic acid, 10% ethanol, and hexane). Higher levels of individual and total OPAs were found in hexane than the other food simulants, especially for AO168 migration from plastic packaging. The amounts of OPEs in the food simulants increased from the aqueous simulants (4% acetic acid and 10% ethanol) to the fatty food simulant (hexane). The migration efficiencies of the OPAs were higher than those of the OPEs. Forest canopies play a vital role in scavenging airborne semi-volatile organic compounds. The present study measured polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the understory air (at two heights), foliage, and litterfall in a subtropical rainforest (the Dinghushan mountain) in southern China. ∑ 17 PAH concentrations in the air ranged from 2.75 to 44.0 ng/m 3 (mean = 8.91 ng/m 3 ), showing a spatial variation depending on the forest canopy coverage. Vertical distributions of the understory air concentrations also indicated PAH inputs from the above-canopy air. The concentrations of PAHs in fresh litter (with a mean of 261 ± 163 ng/g dry weight (dw)) were slightly lower than those in the foliage (362 ± 291 ng/g dw). Unlike the stable air PAH concentrations for most of the time of the year, the temporal variations of foliage and litter concentrations were remarkable but generally similar. Higher or comparable leaf/litter-air partition coefficients (K LA ) in fresh litter compared with living K LA in leaves suggest that the forest litter layer is an efficient storage media for PAHs. Degradation of three-ring PAHs in litter under the field conditions follows first-order kinetics (R 2  = 0.81), while the degradation is moderate for four-ring PAHs and insignificant for five- and six-ring PAHs. The yearly net cumulative deposition of PAHs through forest litterfall in the whole Dinghushan forest area over the sampling year was about 1.1 kg, 46% of the initial deposition (2.4 kg). Steroids have attracted concern worldwide because of their potential carcinogenicity and severe adverse effects on aquatic organisms. However, the contamination status of various steroids, particularly their metabolites, at the watershed level remains unknown. This was the first study to employ field investigations to elucidate the spatiotemporal patterns, riverine fluxes, and mass inventories, and conduct a risk assessment of 22 steroids and their metabolites. This study also developed an effective tool for predicting the target steroids and their metabolites in a typical watershed based on the fugacity model combined with a chemical indicator. Ultraviolet absorbents (UVAs) are widely used in various industrial materials, pharmaceuticals, and personal care products, resulting in their frequent occurrences in sediment, water, and biota. However, our understanding of the spatiotemporal characteristics and long-term contamination status of UVAs is still limited. Here, a 6-year biomonitoring study with oysters during wet and dry seasons was conducted to examine the annual, seasonal, and spatial characteristics of UVAs in the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), China. The concentrations of Σ 6 UVA ranged from 9.1 to 119 (geometric mean ± standard deviation: 31 ± 22) ng/g dry wt. and peaked in 2018. Significant spatiotemporal variations in UVA contamination were observed. The concentrations of UVAs in oysters during the wet season were higher than the dry season, and concentrations in the more industrialized eastern coast were higher than the western coast (p < 0.05). Environmental factors, including precipitation, temperature, and salinity in water significantly impacted the UVA bioaccumulation in the oysters. Bisphenol S derivatives (BDs) are being widely used as novel substitutes for BPA and BPA analogues (BPAs), causing pollution in various environmental compartments. However, the occurrence and fate of BDs in coastal waters are currently unknown. To broaden the lens on bisphenols in coastal waters, this study measured a broad suite of 23 bisphenols, including 12 BDs along with BPA and 10 BPAs, in water, suspended particulate matter (SPM), and sediment from eight major outlets of the Pearl River Delta, China (PRD). In addition to BPA and BPAs, all the 12 BDs were detected in the collected samples. The total concentration of 12 BDs ranged from 1.2 to 25 ng/L (median of 4.3 ng/L) in water samples, 0.80-13 ng/g dw (median of 3.0 ng/g dw) in SPM samples and 0.48-3.7 ng/g dw (median of 0.64 ng/g dw) in sediment samples. For most individual BDs, they had comparable concentrations to individual BPAs. In addition, logK d values of the frequently detected bisphenols, including BPA, BPS, BPF, 4-((4-Isopropoxyphenyl)sulfonyl)phenol (BPSIP), 2,4-bis(phenylsulfonyl)phenol (DBSP), and other 9 bisphenols, were significantly correlated with their logK ow values (R 2  = 0.38, p < 0.05), indicating that the partitioning of bisphenols between the aqueous and SPM phases were strongly influenced by hydrophobic interaction. Based on bisphenols' concentrations in water from the eight outlets of PRD, the estimated input fluxes of novel BDs (1900 kg/y) were found to be even higher than that of BPAs (550 kg/y). Polyhalogenated carbazoles (PHCZs) have been increasingly detected in marine sediment, raising concerns in recent years. In this study, sediment samples (42 surface and one core) were collected from the Yangtze River estuary and the adjacent East China Sea, and eleven PHCZs and unsubstituted carbazole were measured. The total concentration of PHCZs in surface sediments ranged from 0.19 to 2.49 ng/g dry weight (d.w.) (median 1.03 ng/g d. w.). The congener compositions of PHCZs in the surface sediment were dominated by 3,6-dichlorocarbazole (36-CCZ, 53.2%), followed by 3-chlorocarbazole (14.9%) and 3,6-dibromocarbazole (36-BCZ, 11.8%). Carbazole in the surface sediment ranged from not detected to 9.89 ng/g (median 1.25 ng/g), with a detection frequency of 81.0%. The spatial distribution of 36-CCZ in surface sediments exhibited a clear decline from the coast to offshore, while 36-BCZ showed the opposite trend. The depth profile of 36-CCZ was maintained at a relatively low and stable concentration (about 0.36 ng/g) in core segments from 1903 to 1951, followed by a steady increase to 1.5 ng/g in 2006. This increase coincides with the industrial and agricultural development in China that began in the 1950s. In contrast, the other detected PHCZs and carbazole maintained stable, low concentrations over time. These spatial and temporal patterns suggest that 36-CCZ in this area is predominantly from anthropogenic sources, while 36-BCZ has a natural origin. Toxic equivalent estimations indicated that dioxin-like effects for the observed PHCZs were low. The imbalance of atmospheric, terrestrial and aquatic phosphorus budgets remains a research conundrum and global concern. In this work, the uptake, distribution, bioaccumulation and emission of organophosphate esters (OPEs) by clove trees (Syzygium aromaticum), lemon trees (Citrus limon) and cape jasmine trees (Gardenia jasminoides var. fortuniana) was investigated as conduits for phosphorus transfer or sinks and sources. The objective was to assess the role OPEs in soils play as atmospheric phosphorus sources through plant bioaccumulation and emission. Results demonstrated OPEs in experimental soil plots ranging from 0.01 to 81.0 ng g -1 dry weight, were absorbed and transported through plants to the atmosphere. The total emission of OPEs varied greatly from 0.2 to 588.9 pg g -1 L -1 h -1 , with a mean of 47.6 pg g -1 L -1 h -1 . There was a negative linear relationship between the concentrations of total phosphorus and four OPEs, tri-iso-butyl phosphate, tri-n-butyl phosphate, tris (2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate and tripentyl phosphate. Trimethyl phosphate levels were positively correlated with total nitrogen, and the concentrations of tri-iso-butyl phosphate, tri-n-butyl phosphate, tris (2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate and tripentyl phosphate decreased along with available potassium in leaves after 72 h. There was a significantly positive linear relationship between higher emission concentrations of OPEs and the emission factor of OPEs concentration (F = 4.2, P = 0.002), with lower emissions of OPEs and the bioaccumulation of OPEs in leaves (F = 4.8, P = 0.004). Antibiotics have been detected in aquatic environment around the world. Understanding internal concentrations of antibiotics in organisms could further improve risk governance. In this study, we investigated the occurrence of seven sulfonamides, four tetracyclines, five fluoroquinolones, and five macrolides antibiotics in six fish, four crustaceans, and five mollusks species collected from Qinzhou Bay, an important part of the Beibu Gulf in the South China Sea in 2018. 19 of all the 21 target antibiotics were detectable in biota. The total concentrations of the antibiotics ranged from 15.2 to 182 ng/g dry weight in all marine organisms, with sulfonamides and macrolides being the most abundant antibiotics. Mollusks accumulated more antibiotics than fish and crustaceans, implying the species-specific bioaccumulation of antibiotics. The pH dependent partition coefficients of antibiotics exhibited significantly positive correlation with their concentrations in organisms. The ecological risk assessment suggested that marine species in Qinzhou Bay were threatened by azithromycin and norfloxacin. The annual mass loading of antibiotics from Qinzhou Bay to the coastal land area for human ingestion via marine fishery catches was 4.02 kg, with mollusks being the predominant migration contributor. The estimated daily intakes of erythromycin indicated that consumption of seafood from Qinzhou Bay posed considerable risks to children (2-5 years old). Fetal exposure to multiple organic contaminants (OCs) is a public concern because of the adverse effects of OCs on early life development. Infant hair has the potential to be used as an alternative matrix to identify susceptible fetuses, owing to its reliability, sensitivity, and advantages associated with sampling, handling, and ethics. However, the applicability of infant hair for assessing in utero exposure to OCs is still limited. In this study, 57 infant hair samples were collected in Guangzhou, South China, to evaluate the levels and compositions of typical OCs in the fetus. Most of the target OCs were detected in infant hair, with medians of 144 μg/g, 17.7 μg/g, 192 ng/g, 46.9 ng/g, and 1.36 ng/g for phthalate esters (PAEs), alternative plasticizers (APs), organophosphorus flame retardants (OPFRs), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), and organochlorine pesticides (OCPs), respectively. Meanwhile, paired maternal hair (0-9 cm from the scalp) was collected to examine the associations between maternal and infant hair for individual compounds. Low-brominated PBDEs tended to deposit in infant hair, with median concentrations approximately two times higher than those in maternal samples. Levels of PBDEs and 4,4'-dichlorodiphenyldichloroethylene (p,p'-DDE) in paired maternal and infant hair showed strong positive correlations (p < 0.05), while most plasticizers (PAEs and APs) were poorly correlated between paired hair samples. Exposure sources were responsible for the variation in correlation between OC levels in the paired infant and maternal samples. Crude relationships between fetal exposure to OCs and birth size were examined using the Bayesian kernel machine regression (BKMR) model. BDE-28 was found to be adversely associated with the birth size. Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are considered as major sinks for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs). However, conventional WWTPs with low efficiency are also a secondary point source of PFASs entering the environment. Herein, a large-scale investigation of PFASs was conducted in 44 WWTPs throughout Shaanxi Province in the transitional zone between North and South China. The composition profiles of target PFASs differed between wastewater and sludge samples. Perfluorobutanoic acid was dominant in wastewater influent and effluent samples, with maximum concentrations of 59.8 and 11.4 ng/L, respectively. Perfluorooctane sulfonic acid occurred predominantly in sludge samples, with a maximum concentration of 73.2 ng/g. Through wastewater treatment, short-chain PFASs with an even number of carbon atoms were mostly removed, whereas short-chain PFASs with an odd number of carbon atoms were primarily discharged into receiving water. Long-chain PFASs (perfluoroalkyl carboxylic acids: C ≥ 8; perfluoroalkane sulfonic acids: C ≥ 6) were not removed efficiently and secondary production might occur during treatment. Based on the risk quotient, PFASs residues in wastewater effluent posed minimal ecological risk, but the residues in sludge posed low to high potential risk.
