Graph distance measures have emerged as an effective tool for evaluating the similarity or dissimilarity between graphs. Recently, there has been a growing trend in the application of movie networks to analyze and understand movie stories. Previous studies focused on computing the distance between individual characters in narratives and identifying the most important ones. Unlike previous techniques, which often relied on representing movie stories through single-layer networks based on characters or keywords, a new multilayer network model was developed to allow a more comprehensive representation of movie stories, including character, keyword, and location aspects. To assess the similarities among movie stories, we propose a methodology that utilizes a multilayer network model and layer-to-layer distance measures. We aim to quantify the similarity between movie networks by verifying two aspects: (i) regarding many components of the movie story and (ii) quantifying the distance between their corresponding movie networks. We tend to explore how five graph distance measures reveal the similarity between movie stories in two aspects: (i) finding the order of similarity among movies within the same genre, and (ii) classifying movie stories based on genre. We select movies from various genres: sci-fi, horror, romance, and comedy. We extract movie stories from movie scripts regarding character, keyword, and location entities to perform this. Then, we compute the distance between movie networks using different methods, such as the network portrait divergence, the network Laplacian spectra descriptor (NetLSD), the network embedding as matrix factorization (NetMF), the Laplacian spectra, and D-measure. The study shows the effectiveness of different methods for identifying similarities among various genres and classifying movies across different genres. The results suggest that the efficiency of an approach on a specific network type depends on its capacity to capture the inherent network structure of that type. A Multilayer network is a potent platform that paves the way for the study of the interactions among entities in various networks with multiple types of relationships. This study explores the dynamics of discrete-time quantum walks on a multilayer network. We derive a recurrence formula for the coefficients of the wave function of a quantum walker on an undirected graph with a finite number of nodes. By extending this formula to include extra layers, we develop a simulation model to describe the time evolution of the quantum walker on a multilayer network. The time-averaged probability and the return probability of the quantum walker are studied with Fourier, and Grover walks on multilayer networks. Furthermore, we analyze the impact of decoherence on quantum transport, shedding light on how environmental interactions may impact the behavior of quantum walkers on multilayer network structures. This paper focuses on the application of higher-order and multilayer networks in identifying critical causes and relationships contributing to hazardous materials transportation accidents. There were 792 accidents of hazardous materials transportation that occurred on the road from 2017 to 2021 which have been investigated. By considering time sequence and dependency of causes, the hazardous materials transportation accidents causation network (HMTACN) was described using the higher-order model. To investigate the structure of HMTACN such as the importance of causes and links, HMTACN was divided into three layers using the weighted k-core decomposition: the core layer, the bridge layer and the peripheral layer. Then causes and links were analyzed in detail. It was found that the core layer was tightly connected and supported most of the causal flows of HMTACN. The results showed that causes should be given hierarchical attention. This study provides an innovative method to analyze complicated accidents, which can be used in identifying major causes and links. Network alignment (NA) is a popular research field that aims to develop algorithms for comparing networks. Applications of network alignment span many fields, from biology to social network analysis. NA comes in two forms: global network alignment (GNA), which aims to find a global similarity, and LNA, which aims to find local regions of similarity. Recently, there has been an increasing interest in introducing complex network models such as multilayer networks. Multilayer networks are common in many application scenarios, such as modelling of relations among people in a social network or representing the interplay of different molecules in a cell or different cells in the brain. Consequently, the need to introduce algorithms for the comparison of such multilayer networks, i.e., local network alignment, arises. Existing algorithms for LNA do not perform well on multilayer networks since they cannot consider inter-layer edges. Thus, we propose local alignment of multilayer networks (MultiLoAl), a novel algorithm for the local alignment of multilayer networks. We define the local alignment of multilayer networks and propose a heuristic for solving it. We present an extensive assessment indicating the strength of the algorithm. The Internet creates multidimensional and complex relationships in terms of the composition, application and mapping of social users. Most of the previous related research has focused on the single-layer topology of physical device networks but ignored the study of service access relationships and the social structure of users on the Internet. Here, we propose a composite framework to understand how the interaction between the physical devices network, business application network, and user role network affects the robustness of the entire Internet. In this paper, a multilayer network consisting of a physical device layer, business application layer and user role layer is constructed by collecting experimental network data. We characterize the disturbance process of the entire multilayer network when a physical entity device fails by designing nodal disturbance to investigate the interactions that exist between the different network layers. Meanwhile, we analyze the characteristics of the Internet-oriented multilayer network structure and propose a heuristic multilayer network topology generation algorithm based on the initial routing topology and networking pattern, which simulates the evolution process of multilayer network topology. To further analyze the robustness of this multilayer network model, we combined a total of six target node ranking indicators including random strategy, degree centrality, betweenness centrality, closeness centrality, clustering coefficient and network constraint coefficient, performed node deletion simulations in the experimental network, and analyzed the impact of component types and interactions on the robustness of the overall multilayer network based on the maximum component change in the network. These results provide new insights into the operational processes of the Internet from a multi-domain data fusion perspective, reflecting that the coupling relationships that exist between the different interaction layers are closely linked to the robustness of multilayer networks. The determination of directed control paths in complex networks is important because control paths indicate the structure of the propagation of control signals through edges. A challenging problem is to identify them in complex networked systems characterized by different types of interactions that form multilayer networks. In this study, we describe a graph pattern called the conserved control path, which allows us to model a common control structure among different types of relations. We present a practical conserved control path detection method (CoPath), which is based on a maximum-weighted matching, to determine the paths that play the most consistent roles in controlling signal transmission in multilayer networks. As a pragmatic application, we demonstrate that the control paths detected in a multilayered pan-cancer network are statistically more consistent. Additionally, they lead to the effective identification of drug targets, thereby demonstrating their power in predicting key pathways that influence multiple cancers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The emergence of various social networks has greatly enriched our daily life, and simultaneously, it brings a challenging task to identify influencers among multiple social networks. The key problem lies in the various interactions among individuals and huge data scale. Aiming at solving the problem, this paper employs a general multilayer network model to represent the multiple social networks, and then proposes the node influence indicator merely based on the local neighboring information. Extensive experiments on 21 real-world datasets are conducted to verify the performance of the proposed method, which shows superiority to the competitors. It is of remarkable significance in revealing the evolutions in social networks and we hope this work will shed light for more and more forthcoming researchers to further explore the uncharted part of this promising field.
