As a promising information theory, reinforcement learning has gained much attention. This paper researches a wind-storage cooperative decision-making strategy based on dueling double deep Q-network (D3QN). Firstly, a new wind-storage cooperative model is proposed. Besides wind farms, energy storage systems, and external power grids, demand response loads are also considered, including residential price response loads and thermostatically controlled loads (TCLs). Then, a novel wind-storage cooperative decision-making mechanism is proposed, which combines the direct control of TCLs with the indirect control of residential price response loads. In addition, a kind of deep reinforcement learning algorithm called D3QN is utilized to solve the wind-storage cooperative decision-making problem. Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) usually work in an end-to-end manner. This makes the trained DNNs easy to use, but they remain an ambiguous decision process for every test case. Unfortunately, the interpretability of decisions is crucial in some scenarios, such as medical or financial data mining and decision-making. In this paper, we propose a Tree-Network-Tree (TNT) learning framework for explainable decision-making, where the knowledge is alternately transferred between the tree model and DNNs. Specifically, the proposed TNT learning framework exerts the advantages of different models at different stages: (1) a novel James–Stein Decision Tree (JSDT) is proposed to generate better knowledge representations for DNNs, especially when the input data are in low-frequency or low-quality; (2) the DNNs output high-performing prediction result from the knowledge embedding inputs and behave as a teacher model for the following tree model; and (3) a novel distillable Gradient Boosted Decision Tree (dGBDT) is proposed to learn interpretable trees from the soft labels and make a comparable prediction as DNNs do. To generate more high-quality aerodynamic data using the information provided by different fidelity data, where low-fidelity aerodynamic data provides the trend information and high-fidelity aerodynamic data provides value information, we applied a deep neural network (DNN) algorithm to fuse the information of multi-fidelity aerodynamic data. We discuss the relationships between the low-fidelity and high-fidelity data, and then we describe the proposed architecture for an aerodynamic data fusion model. The architecture consists of three fully-connected neural networks that are employed to approximate low-fidelity data, and the linear part and nonlinear part of correlation for the low- and high-fidelity data, respectively. To test the proposed multi-fidelity aerodynamic data fusion method, we calculated Euler and Navier–Stokes simulations for a typical airfoil at various Mach numbers and angles of attack to obtain the aerodynamic coefficients as low- and high-fidelity data. A fusion model of the longitudinal coefficients of lift C L and drag C D was constructed with the proposed method. For comparisons, variable complexity modeling and cokriging models were also built. The accuracy spread between the predicted value and true value was discussed for both the training and test data of the three different methods. We calculated the root mean square error and average relative deviation to demonstrate the performance of the three different methods. The fusion result of the proposed method was satisfactory on the test case, and showed a better performance compared with the other two traditional methods presented. Previous works established that entropy is characterized uniquely as the first cohomology class in a topos and described some of its applications to the unsupervised classification of gene expression modules or cell types. These studies raised important questions regarding the statistical meaning of the resulting cohomology of information and its interpretation or consequences with respect to usual data analysis and statistical physics. This paper aims to present the computational methods of information cohomology and to propose its interpretations in terms of statistical physics and machine learning. In order to further underline the cohomological nature of information functions and chain rules, the computation of the cohomology in low degrees is detailed to show more directly that the k multivariate mutual information ( I k ) are (k − 1) -coboundaries. The (k − 1) -cocycles condition corresponds to I k = 0 , which generalizes statistical independence to arbitrary degree k. Hence, the cohomology can be interpreted as quantifying the statistical dependences and the obstruction to factorization. I develop the computationally tractable subcase of simplicial information cohomology represented by entropy H k and information I k landscapes and their respective paths, allowing investigation of Shannon's information in the multivariate case without the assumptions of independence or of identically distributed variables. I give an interpretation of this cohomology in terms of phase transitions in a model of k-body interactions, holding both for statistical physics without mean field approximations and for data points. The I 1 components define a self-internal energy functional U k and (− 1) k I k , k ≥ 2 components define the contribution to a free energy functional G k (the total correlation) of the k-body interactions. A basic mean field model is developed and computed on genetic data reproducing usual free energy landscapes with phase transition, sustaining the analogy of clustering with condensation. The set of information paths in simplicial structures is in bijection with the symmetric group and random processes, providing a trivial topological expression of the second law of thermodynamics. The local minima of free energy, related to conditional information negativity and conditional independence, characterize a minimum free energy complex. This complex formalizes the minimum free-energy principle in topology, provides a definition of a complex system and characterizes a multiplicity of local minima that quantifies the diversity observed in biology. I give an interpretation of this complex in terms of unsupervised deep learning where the neural network architecture is given by the chain complex and conclude by discussing future supervised applications. Conventionally, the maximum likelihood (ML) criterion is applied to train a deep belief network (DBN). We present a maximum entropy (ME) learning algorithm for DBNs, designed specifically to handle limited training data. Maximizing only the entropy of parameters in the DBN allows more effective generalization capability, less bias towards data distributions, and robustness to over-fitting compared to ML learning. Results of text classification and object recognition tasks demonstrate ME-trained DBN outperforms ML-trained DBN when training data is limited. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Inspired by the adaptation phenomenon of neuronal firing, we propose the regularity normalization (RN) as an unsupervised attention mechanism (UAM) which computes the statistical regularity in the implicit space of neural networks under the Minimum Description Length (MDL) principle. Treating the neural network optimization process as a partially observable model selection problem, the regularity normalization constrains the implicit space by a normalization factor, the universal code length. We compute this universal code incrementally across neural network layers and demonstrate the flexibility to include data priors such as top-down attention and other oracle information. Empirically, our approach outperforms existing normalization methods in tackling limited, imbalanced and non-stationary input distribution in image classification, classic control, procedurally-generated reinforcement learning, generative modeling, handwriting generation and question answering tasks with various neural network architectures. Lastly, the unsupervised attention mechanisms is a useful probing tool for neural networks by tracking the dependency and critical learning stages across layers and recurrent time steps of deep networks. In many decision-making scenarios, ranging from recreational activities to healthcare and policing, the use of artificial intelligence coupled with the ability to learn from historical data is becoming ubiquitous. This widespread adoption of automated systems is accompanied by the increasing concerns regarding their ethical implications. Fundamental rights, such as the ones that require the preservation of privacy, do not discriminate based on sensible attributes (e.g., gender, ethnicity, political/sexual orientation), or require one to provide an explanation for a decision, are daily undermined by the use of increasingly complex and less understandable yet more accurate learning algorithms. For this purpose, in this work, we work toward the development of systems able to ensure trustworthiness by delivering privacy, fairness, and explainability by design. In particular, we show that it is possible to simultaneously learn from data while preserving the privacy of the individuals thanks to the use of Homomorphic Encryption, ensuring fairness by learning a fair representation from the data, and ensuring explainable decisions with local and global explanations without compromising the accuracy of the final models. We test our approach on a widespread but still controversial application, namely face recognition, using the recent FairFace dataset to prove the validity of our approach. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
