The composition, diagnostic characters, and some species of two genera of the tribe Holochlorini (Psyrana Uvarov, 1940 and Pseudopsyra Hebard, 1922) are considered. Each of these genera is subdivided into two subgenera, and the following new taxa are described: Adentipsyrasubgen. n. Results of the study of fleas associated with four insectivore and rodent species in northern Karelia are reported. Fleas were collected in August–September 2001, 2003–2004, 2006–2009, 2011, 2015, and 2019 in the environs of the White Sea Biological Station "Kartesh" (Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences). Data on 20 new or little known species of ground beetles found in the south of Sakhalin are presented. Two of these species, Bembidionpliculatum Bates, 1883 and Apristus grandis Andrewes, 1937, are new to the fauna of Russia, and five other species are formally recorded for the first time from Sakhalin Island: Dyschiriustristis Stephens, 1827, Bembidionpseudolucillum Netolitzky, 1938, Trechusnigricornis arsenjevi (Jeannel, 1962), Harpalusnigrans A. Morawitz, 1862, and Lebia bifenestrata A. Morawitz, 1862. A comparative morphological study of the structure and distribution of sensilla on the maxillary and labial palps in caddisflies of the family Hydropsychidae was performed. Morphology of palpal sensilla was studied by scanning electron microscopy in 17 species from 12 genera. The palps of the studied species have four types of sensilla: long trichoid, chaetoid, campaniform, and petaloid; at the same time, no basiconic and pseudoplacoid sensilla were found on the palps. All the studied species lack apical sensory complexes at the tips of both pairs of palps, where only long chaetoid sensilla are present. Petaloid sensilla form sensory fields on the 4th (in Arctopsychinae) or on the 3rd and 4th segments (in Diplectroninae, Hydropsychinae, Macronematinae) of the maxillary palps, but sensilla of this type are never present on the labial palps. The type material of three species of the genus Coprophilus Latreille, 1829 was revised, and examination of additional specimens of C. (Zonyptilus) alticola Fauvel, 1904 from Nepal, northern India, and China (Yunnan, Sichuan, and Shaanxi) has shown that C. (Z.) subplagiatus Cameron, 1928 and C. (Z.) difformis Smetana, 1998 are junior synonyms of C. (Z.) alticola Fauvel, 1904. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

During four years of sampling by canopy traps with fermenting baits, adults of the Quedius dilatatus rove beetle were collected in large quantities together with the Vespa crabro hornet across several regions in Central European Russia. Contrary to previous reports which stemmed from collecting methods inadequate for this 'rare' inquiline of the European hornet Vespa crabro, Q.dilatatus is found to be a common and widespread beetle. Moreover, the maximum numbers of beetles were found in the period between the first (spring) and second (summer) peaks of the hornet abundance, i.e. at the early stages of the hornet nests' growth to their peaks. A similar pattern was revealed by the same type of sampling during one year within a smaller area of the Mordovia State Nature Reserve, albeit with variation determined by the type of sampled forest. Apparently, such adjustment of the life cycle of the inquiline beetle to that of its host is a compromise between the possibility for efficient search of the hornet nests by beetles using olfactory stimuli, and the availability of a sufficient time period needed for the development of the beetle larvae. The most favorable conditions for the European wheat stem sawfly Cephus pygmaeus occur in wheat crops in the steppes and forest-steppes in the south of European Russia and West Siberia. The density and harmfulness of the pest decrease toward the mountainous areas, to the north and northeast, and with transition from steppes and forest-steppes to broad-leaved, small-leaved, and especially mixed forests. The current climate warming is accompanied by increasing density and harmfulness of C. pygmaeus in the regions of widespread wheat cultivation adjacent to the West Siberian pest focus within Altai Territory. In the forest-steppe of the Middle Volga region, the pest density has steadily declined in the last 40 years due to the spread of no-till techniques in wheat cultivation. The main factor of wheat resistance to C. pygmaeus in the forest-steppe of the Middle Volga region seems to be the small outer culm diameter (less than 2.6 mm). The spread of no-till farming combined with cultivation of high-yielding sawfly-resistant wheat varieties with partially filled culms approved for use in the Russian Federation has led to the pest density decreasing below its economic threshold level and, correspondingly, less extensive use of insecticides and an increase in the density and effectiveness of entomophages. Damage to productive stems of soft winter wheat by sawfly larvae was insignificant, only 0.5–1.1%. The thousand kernel weight in the wheat ears from the damaged culms decreased by 5–15%, and the total kernel mass in such ears, by 6.5% as compared with intact stems. A decrease in winter wheat yield was 0.6–1.2%. The loss of spring wheat crop due to the sawfly was on average one-tenth that of winter wheat crop. The use of insecticides against the European wheat stem sawfly is not recommended due to their low efficiency, while agrotechnical and biological techniques are preferable. Descriptions of six new species are given: Thinodromus (s. str.) batuensis sp. n. from Malaysia (Borneo); Thinodromus (s. str.) bhutaniensis sp. n. from Bhutan; Thinodromus (s. str.) bruneiensis sp. n. from Brunei; Thinodromus (s. str.) indochinensis sp. n. from the former French Indochina; Thinodromus (s. str.) salaengensis sp. n. and Thinodromus (s. str.) soppongensis sp. n. from Thailand. Records of 31 Aedes species (Diptera: Culicidae) in Northwestern Russia are reviewed and mapped. Comparison of the species records and the values of the sum of active temperatures above 0°C for the collection localities was used to extrapolate the northern distribution boundaries of mosquitoes in Northwestern Russia. New and specified distributional data on eight hitherto known species of the subgenus Cribramara Kryzhanovskij, 1964 (genus Amara Bonelli, 1810) are provided and mapped. Records of 16 species of the mosquito genera Anopheles, Coquillettidia, Culex, and Culiseta (Diptera: Culicidae) in Northwestern Russia are mapped. The values of the sum of active temperatures above 0°C were shown to correlate with the position of the northern range boundaries of mosquito species, according to which 16 species were included in 4 distribution groups. The shore fly genus Setacera is reviewed. It includes 5 species in Russian fauna. Diagnoses of the genus and species are represented; a key to the species is given. One species, S. trina, is new to the fauna of Russia, while S. aurata formerly considered a European species has been found in western Siberia for the first time. The Holarctic S. micans previously recorded only in the European part of Russia has also been recorded from Eastern Siberia and Kamchatka. The distribution range of S. freidbergi is extended. The family Stenopelmatidae is divided here only into 3 subfamilies: Stenopelmatinae with 4 or 5 tribes (Stenopelmatini; Siini stat. resurr.; Maxentiini trib. n.; Oryctopterini trib. resurr. and possibly Oryctopini); Schizodactylinae (= Comicinae Ander, 1939, syn. n.) not divided into tribes, and Gryllacridinae (= Hyperbaeninae Cadena-Castañeda, 2019, syn. n.) with a problematic tribal composition. The following new taxa are described: Sia bugajussp. n.;Amaxentiussubgen. n. and Eumaxentiussubgen. n. in the genus Maxentius Stål, 1876, stat. resurr.;Comicus orangensissp. n.;C. myburghisp. n.;C. namibicussp. n. The genera Oryctopterus Karny, 1937, gen. resurr. and Brauckmannia Martins-Neto, 2007, gen. resurr. are restored from synonymy with Oryctopus Brunner-Wattenwyl, 1888 and Schizodactylus Brullé, 1835, respectively. The family Anostostomatidae includes only 2 subfamilies: Anostostomatinae with 9 tribes (Anostostomatini; Anabropsini; Lutosini; Cratomelini stat. n.; Brachyporini; Deinacridini stat. n.; Cooloolini stat. n.; Leiomelini stat. n., and Glaphyrosomatini) and possibly Lezininae not divided into tribes. The genus Anabropsis Rehn, 1901 is considered as consisting of 5 subgenera: Anabropsis s. str.; Paterdecolyus Griffini, 1913, stat. n.;Pteranabropsis Gorochov, 1988, stat. n. (= Brevipenna Shi et Bian, 2016, syn. n.); Apteranabropsis Gorochov, 1988, stat. n.; and Carnabropsissubgen. n. New combinations for 20 species of this genus are formed, and the following new species and subspecies are described: Anabropsis (Pteranabropsis) intermediasp. n.;A. (P.) falcata pallescenssubsp. n.; A. (Apteranabropsis) ailaoshanicasp. n.; A. (A.) maculatasp. n.; A. (A.) tarasovisp. n.;A. (A.) abramovisp. n.;A. (A.) abramovi namlikensissubsp. n. The type material of several synonyms of Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) pennifer (Motschulsky, 1845) is revised. Both Coprophilus (Zonyptilus) striatipennis (Eppelsheim, 1894) and C. (Z.) dimidiatipennis Fauvel, 1900 are resurrected from synonymy with C. (Z.) pennifer and re-established as valid species. Coprophilus (Z.) obscurus (Reitter, 1894), C. (Z.) araxis (Reitter, 1894), and C. (Z.) obsoletus (Reitter, 1894) are confirmed to be junior synonyms of C. (Z.) pennifer (Motschulsky, 1845). Lectotypes are designated for Zonoptilusstriatipennis Eppelsheim, 1894, Zonoptilus rufipennis Reitter, 1894, Coprophilus dimidiatipennis Fauvel, 1900, Zonoptilus pennifer v. obscurus Reitter, 1894, Zonoptilus pennifer v. araxis Reitter, 1894, and Zonoptilus sellula v. obsoletus Reitter, 1894. Based on the author's and literature data, three species of the scolytid genus Thamnurgus Eichhoff, 1864 associated with herbaceous plants are reported from the Volga Region and the Urals: Th. petzi Reitter, 1901 (= Th. rossicus Alexeev, 1957), Th. caucasicus Reitter, 1887, and Th. pegani Eggers, 1933. Two former species are widely but spottedly distributed in the native steppe and steppificated landscapes of the Volga Region and the South Urals. Thamnurgus pegani was found in 2019 in the semi-desert and desert zones of the Lower Volga area (Astrakhan Province) and is recorded from Russia for the first time. These species have different host plants: Th. petzi is associated in the region with perennial species of the genus Delphinium L. (D. aggr. cuneatum Stev. ex DC. and D. aggr. dictyocarpum DC.), Th. caucasicus appears to be mostly associated with spurges Euphorbia spp. and thistles Carduus spp., while Th. pegani is monophagous on Peganum harmala L. Thirty species of Mordellidae were found in 2011–2018 in the Republic of Mordovia. Of them, Mordelli-stena hirtipes Schilsky, 1895, M. michalki Ermisch, 1956, M. rugipennis Schilsky, 1895, and Stenalia ascaniaenovae Lazorko, 1974 are recorded from Russia for the first time, and 21 species are new to the Republic of Mordovia. The tribe Sphodrini Laporte, 1834 is represented in the fauna of East Europe by 24 species from 8 genera: Calathus (10 species), Laemostenus (6), Pseudotaphoxenus (3), Dolichus, Sphodrus, Platyderus, Synuchus, and Taphoxenus (1 species each). Five species occurring in Ukraine (Calathus cinctus, Laemostenus cimmerius, L. terricola, L. venustus, and Pseudotaphoxenusrufitarsis) and 2 species present in Belarus (Laemostenus terricola and Sphodrus leucophthalmus) were not previously recorded for these countries in the Catalogue of Palaearctic Coleoptera (2017). Six species of the tribe are distributed almost over the entire East Europe, while some species occur only in individual regions. Laemostenus cimmerius, L. venustus, and L. jailensis are known only in the Crimean Mountains; Calathus metallicus occurs only in the Carpathians; Laemostenus tichyi, endemic to Western Ukraine, is known only from the deciduous forest subzone. All species of the genus Pseudotaphoxenus, and also Calathus fuscipes punctipennis and C. terricola punctatus are found only in the steppe zone. Calathus distinguendus, C. mollis, C. syriacus, and Laemostenus sericeus occur in the extreme south of East Europe and in Crimea. Taphoxenus gigas is mainly distributed in the steppe zone, and Calathus cinctus occurs only in the western part of the forest zone and in the Carpathians. Most species of the genera Calathus, Dolichus, and Synuchus are common inhabitants of open mesophytic biotopes. Species of other genera are recorded sporadically and infrequently in the woods, shrubs (Laemostenus cimmerius, L. terricola, L. venustus, and Platyderus rufus), and steppe biotopes (Laemostenus sericeus and Taphoxenus gigas). The species that are very rare in East Europe include Laemostenus jailensis (Crimean Mountains), Pseudotaphoxenus rufitarsis (the southern steppe), L. tichyi, Sphodrus leucophthalmus (found in basements), and Calathus cinctus (the west of the forest zone).
