In this study was selected 43 cases of jaw cysts with various state of infection. The cysts were measured fluids of lipidperoxides and bone components.Non-infection cyst fluids showed low values of the leukocyte and PC-OOH, LOO radicals, but showed high value of pO2. It indicated that O2- and⋅OH were inhibited.Infection cyst fluids showed high values of Hb and Fe2+ concentration. Infection cyst wall showed high values of PC-OOH and LOO radicals. Bone of surrounding cyst showed weakly absorption of PO43-.In the result, it is suggested that the growth of jaw cyst was caused by the damage of microcirculation in cyst walls. Therefore, it was concerned with increased free radicals by infection in the cyst cavities.

The average TBA value of infectioned jaw cysts fluid was higher, and polyunsaturated fatty acid relative content was lower, than those of non-infected or infection eradicated cysts fluid by irrigation with antibiotic solution. When infection was eradicated by irrigation, the average TBA value and polyunsaturated fatty acid relative content returned to the level of non-infected cysts fluid. Then the average TBA value of infected jaw cyst walls was higher than that of non-infected or infection eradicated jaw cyst walls by irrigation. Indomethacin, added to the homogenate of jaw cyst walls in vitro, lowered the TBA value. The magnitude of indomethacin-effect seemed to correlate positively with the original TBA value. Indomethacin inhibits fatty acid cyclooxyenase, and TBA value could be thought as an indicator of syntheses of PG-endoperoxides. And then its supposed that the syntheses of PG-endoperoxides in infected-jaw-cysts were more stimulated as compared with non-infected ones. Therefore in conclusion the TBA value of jaw cyst walls may reflect the degree of inflammation in the tissue.

It is held that jaw cysts enlarge as the bone is absorped because of the intracystic fluid pressure. It is also held that the cysts enlarge as prostaglandin-like substances of the cyst walls acts on the bone resorption. This study gave the following results. As the concentrations of PGE generated in infected cyst walls increased, bone Gla protein, and calcification decreased and the bone was absorpted. After the infection of the cyst disappeared, the value of PGF2α, bone Gla protein, and calcification increased, and the bone regenerated
