In alcohol-containing systems, the association of polar molecules significantly influences the calculation of water activity, leading to substantial deviations from ideal solution behavior. This makes it challenging for traditional hydrate formation condition models to accurately predict hydrate formation temperatures and pressures. To address this issue, we propose a novel unified thermodynamic framework based on the Parrish-Prausnitz (P-P) model and the Cubic-Plus-Association (CPA) equation of state (EoS) for calculating the hydrate formation condition in systems containing gas/water/alcohol, by using the advantages of the CPA EoS to characterize the association interaction of polar molecules. In addition, we utilize experimental data to model the molecular association in alcohol-containing systems and conduct regression analysis for binary interaction coefficients among alcohol, water, and gas. Multiple sets of experimental data on component fractions and hydrate formation conditions for methane-alcohol-water systems are used for validation. The proposed model shows an average relative error of 1.17–6.42% for predicting alcohol/methane component fractions in the liquid phase and 1.93–4.78% for predicting hydrate formation conditions in alcohol-containing systems. Compared to traditional models, this model demonstrates a significant improvement in accuracy and performs well in predicting hydrate formation conditions in alcohol-containing systems. The deposition of sulfur particles in gathering and transportation pipeline system can cause serious safety problems and economic losses. When the high sulfur content natural gas (HSCNG) flows through the throttle valve of the gathering and transportation system, it will cause the supersaturation of elemental sulfur in the gas phase, and then the sulfur crystal nuclei and sulfur particles will appear in the pipeline system. Studying the initial growth behavior of sulfur crystal nuclei and sulfur particles can lay a necessary prerequisite for the accurate prediction of sulfur particle deposition in high sulfur content natural gas gathering and transportation (HSCNGGT) pipelines. Based on the homogeneous nucleation theory in crystallization kinetics, a mathematical model of elemental sulfur nucleation was established. Taking the throttling condition in the process of HSCNGGT as an example, the effects of temperature, pressure and H2S concentration in HSCNG on the critical nucleation radius and nucleation rate of elemental sulfur were explored. The results show that: (1) after the supersaturation of elemental sulfur, sulfur crystal nuclei with nanoscale radius will be precipitated. The temperature and pressure after throttling have great influence on the nucleation radius, and the influence of H2S concentration on the nucleation radius is more complex. (2) The temperature, pressure and H2S concentration after throttling also have great influence on the nucleation rate. By solving the growth kinetics model of sulfur particles based on Brownian condensation, it is found that the nano-sized sulfur crystal nuclei can grow into micron-sized sulfur particles in a very short time. The effect of gathering pipeline pressure, temperature, and key components on the solubility of monomeric sulfur in high-sulfur-content natural gas is directly related to the prediction and prevention of sulfur deposition in surface gathering pipelines. Based on our previous study on a prediction model of sulfur solubility in gas with a new formula for the binary interaction coefficient between sulfur and H2S, a new gas–solid thermodynamic phase equilibrium solubility prediction model for monomeric sulfur in high-sulfur-content natural gas was improved based on the gas–solid phase equilibrium principle considering both physical and chemical solution mechanisms. Two new expressions for binary interaction coefficients between sulfur and CO2 and CH4, considering both temperature and solvent density, are proposed in this new solubility prediction model. In this paper, the main factors, such as the gathering pipeline pressure, gathering pipeline temperature, H2S, and CO2, affecting the solubility law of elemental sulfur in high-sulfur-content natural gas are investigated. The results show that the total solubility of elemental sulfur in high-sulfur-bearing natural gas tends to decrease with an increase in the gathering temperature, in which the increase in temperature promotes physical solution, and the physical solution mechanism prevails. Conversely, chemical solution is promoted, and the chemical solution mechanism prevails. With an increase in the gathering pressure, the total solubility of elemental sulfur in high-sulfur-content gas tends to increase, where the physical solubility decreases slightly at first and then increases continuously, with a pressure inflection point of about 2.0 MPa, and the pressure increase has a significant promoting effect on the chemical solubility of elemental sulfur. The increase in the H2S concentration promotes the solution of elemental sulfur in the gas phase in general and significantly promotes the chemical solution of elemental sulfur. It is common to have a wax layer on the inner wall of waxy crude oil pipeline. However, the study of the wax layer on the heat transfer of buried pipeline systems is inadequate due to its instability of composition and properties; it may lead to the inaccurate prediction of the pipeline temperature field. Based on the finite element simulation technology, a three-dimensional heat transfer model of buried crude oil pipeline involving wax layer was proposed and solved. The thermal effect of the wax layer on pipeline system was analyzed quantitatively. Numerical results show that the average deviation of soil temperature near the pipeline reach 1.42 K when there is a 4 mm wax layer. Among different thermal conductivity models of heterogeneous materials, the EMT model plays best in predicting the conductivity of a waxy layer. By setting different working conditions, the influence mechanisms of several thermal influencing factors are discussed. The results show that the thermal influence range of heated pipe is positively associated with oil temperature and velocity. The core thermal response zone is about 12 m along the X-axis. Beyond 8 m depth from ground surface, the temperature fluctuation of soil is almost unaffected by the oil pipeline. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Transient flow in pipe is a much debated topic in the field of hydrodynamics. The water hammer effect caused by instantaneous valve closing is an important branch of transient flow. At present, the fluid density is regarded as a constant in the study of the water hammer effect in pipe. When there is gas in the pipe, the variation range of density is large, and the pressure-wave velocity should also change continuously along the pipe. This study considers the interaction between pipeline fluid motion and water hammer wave propagation based on the essence of water hammer, with the pressure, velocity, density and overflow area set as variables. A new set of water hammer calculation equations was deduced and solved numerically. The effects of different valve closing time, flow rate and gas content on pressure distribution and the water hammer effect were studied. It was found that with the increase in valve closing time, the maximum fluctuating pressure at the pipe end decreased, and the time of peak value also lagged behind. When the valve closing time increased from 5 s to 25 s, the difference in water hammer pressure was 0.72 MPa, and the difference in velocity fluctuation amplitude was 0.076 m/s. The findings confirm: the greater the flow, the greater the pressure change at the pipe end; the faster the speed change, the more obvious the water hammer effect. High-volume flows were greatly disturbed by instantaneous obstacles such as valve closing. With the increase of time, the pressure fluctuation gradually attenuated along the pipe length. The place with the greatest water hammer effect was near the valve. Under the coupling effect of time and tube length, the shorter the time and the shorter the tube length, the more obvious the pressure fluctuation. Findings also confirm: the larger the gas content, the smaller the fluctuation peak of pipe end pressure; the longer the water hammer cycle, the smaller the pressure-wave velocity. The actual pressure fluctuation value was obviously lower than that without gas, and the size of the pressure wave mainly depended on the gas content. When tubing is in a high-temperature and high-pressure environment, it will be affected by the impact of non-constant fluid and other dynamic loads, which will easily cause the tubing to vibrate or even resonate, affecting the integrity of the wellbore and safe production. In the structural modal analysis of the tubing, the coupling effect of the fluid and the tubing needs to be considered at the same time. In this paper, a single tubing is taken as an example to simulate and analyze the modal changes of the tubing under dry mode and wet mode respectively, and the effects of fluid solid coupling effect, inlet pressure, and ambient temperature on the modal of the tubing are discussed. After considering the fluid–structure interaction effect, the natural frequency of tubing decreases, but the displacement is slightly larger. The greater the pressure in the tubing, the greater the equivalent stress on the tubing body, so the natural frequency is lower. Furthermore, after considering the fluid–solid coupling effect, the pressure in the tubing is the true pulsating pressure of the fluid. The prestress applied to the tubing wall changes with time, and the pressures at different parts are different. At this time, the tubing is changed at different frequencies. Vibration is prone to occur, that is, the natural frequency is smaller than the dry mode. The higher the temperature, the lower the rigidity of the tubing and the faster the strength attenuation, so the natural frequency is lower, and tubing is more prone to vibration. Gas–liquid flow in a pipeline is a very common. Slug two-phase flow is dominated in the case of slightly upward flow (+0.25°) and considered to be the comprehensive flow configuration, and can be in close contact with all the other flow patterns. The models of different flow patterns can be unified. Precise prediction of the slug flow is crucial for proper design and operation. In this paper, we develop hydrodynamics unified modeling for gas–liquid two-phase slug flow, and the bubble and droplet entrainment is optimized. For the important parameters (wall and interfacial friction factors, slug translational velocity and average slug length), the correlations of these parameters are optimized. Furthermore, the related parameters for liquid droplet and gas bubble entrainment are given. Accounting for the gas–liquid interface shape, hydrodynamics models, i.e., the flat interface model (FIM) and the double interface model (DIM), of liquid film in the slug body are applied and compared with the experimental data. The calculated results show that the predictions for the liquid holdup and pressure gradient of the DIM agree with experimental data better than those of the FIM. A comparison between the available experimental results and Zhang's model calculations shows that the DIM model correctly describes the slug dynamics in gas–liquid pipe flow. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Wax precipitation and deposition are serious flow assurance problems. Wax precipitation is investigated simultaneously using centrifugation and high-temperature gas chromatography (C-HTGC) to obtain the amount and component distribution of precipitated wax in artificial waxy oil and diesel at different temperatures. However, the conventional C-HTGC method gives upper measurements of the amount of precipitated wax, as it ignores wax dissolved in crude oil in the centrifugal cake. A modified C-HTGC method was developed to obtain the precipitated solid fraction of crude oil, based on the mass balances of the non-crystallized fraction of the centrifuged cake. The weight, percent and carbon number distribution of precipitated solid wax crystals at different temperatures of artificial oil and 0# diesel were obtained. It was found that wax precipitation characteristics are affected by many factors, including the carbon number distribution of the oil, the sensitivity of alkane crystallization to temperature and the temperature of the waxy oil solution. The average carbon number of alkanes in precipitated wax crystals decreases with the decrease in temperature. The distribution of alkanes in solid wax crystals is roughly the same as that in 0# diesel but slightly heavier than in diesel. Forecasting daily natural gas load accurately is difficult because it is affected by various factors. A large number of redundant factors existing in the original dataset will increase computational complexity and decrease the accuracy of forecasting models. This study aims to provide accurate forecasting of natural gas load using a deep learning (DL)-based hybrid model, which combines principal component correlation analysis (PCCA) and (LSTM) network. PCCA is an improved principal component analysis (PCA) and is first proposed here in this paper. Considering the correlation between components in the eigenspace, PCCA can not only extract the components that affect natural gas load but also remove the redundant components. LSTM is a famous DL network, and it was used to predict daily natural gas load in our work. The proposed model was validated by using recent natural gas load data from Xi'an (China) and Athens (Greece). Additionally, 14 weather factors were introduced into the input dataset of the forecasting model. The results showed that PCCA–LSTM demonstrated better performance compared with LSTM, PCA–LSTM, back propagation neural network (BPNN), and support vector regression (SVR). The lowest mean absolute percentage errors of PCCA–LSTM were 3.22% and 7.29% for Xi'an and Athens, respectively.
