The energy management strategy (EMS) is a decision-making algorithm for effective power allocation between storage devices in a hybrid energy storage system (HESS). Source voltages, state of charge (SOC), the terminal voltage of the load, and the rate of change in the battery current must be considered while implementing the EMS and, hence, they are termed as performance indicators. This research work focuses on the development of an EMS, designed to manage the performance indicators of the sources (terminal voltage and battery current rate) and ensure efficient power distribution through a shared bus topology. A shared bus topology employs individual converters for each source, offering efficient control over these sources. Rule-based fuzzy logic control ensures efficient power distribution between batteries and ultracapacitors. Additionally, hardware has been developed to validate the power allocation strategy and regulate the DC-link voltage in the energy management system (EMS). dSPACE MicroLabBox is utilized for the implementation of real-time control strategies. A battery and an ultracapacitor bank are utilized in a hybrid energy storage system. The simulation outcomes have been corroborated by experimental data, affirming the efficacy of the proposed energy management strategy. The proposed EMS achieves a 2.1% battery energy saving compared to a conventional battery electric vehicle over a 25 s duration under the same load conditions.

To tackle the energy-saving optimization issue of plug-in hybrid electric trucks traversing multiple traffic light intersections continuously, this paper presents a double-layer energy management strategy that utilizes the dynamic programming–twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (DP-TD3) algorithm to synergistically optimize the speed planning and energy management of plug-in hybrid electric trucks, thereby enhancing the vehicle’s passability through traffic light intersections and fuel economy. In the upper layer, the dynamic programming (DP) algorithm is employed to create a speed-planning model. This model effectively converts the nonlinear constraints related to the position, phase, and timing information of each traffic signal on the road into time-varying constraints, thereby improving computational efficiency. In the lower layer, an energy management model is constructed using the twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) algorithm to achieve optimal allocation of demanded power through the interaction of the TD3 agent with the truck environment. The model’s validity is confirmed through testing on a hardware-in-the-loop test machine, followed by simulation experiments. The results demonstrate that the DP-TD3 method proposed in this paper effectively enhances fuel economy, achieving an average fuel saving of 14.61% compared to the dynamic programming–charge depletion/charge sustenance (DP-CD/CS) method.

With the increasing severity of environmental problems and energy scarcity, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs), as a sustainable and efficient means of transportation, are attracting more attention. The ageing of fuel cells (FCs) has become an urgent problem with the development of FCEV. In order to prolong the lifetime of FCs, this paper builds a model of a vehicle driven by two power sources, FC and lithium battery (Lib) using AVL Cruise. A rule-based energy management strategy (EMS) is developed in Simulink to explore the optimal control strategy for the vehicle in terms of the durability of the FC. An FC ageing model is used to quantify the degradation voltage of different duty cycles. The results show that the FC engagement levels, OCV operations, and start/stop operations can affect the lifetime of the FC significantly. By optimising the EMS, the lifetime of the FC is improved by 9.47%.

This paper investigates microgrid systems characterized by the coexistence of discrete events and continuous events, a typical hybrid system. By selecting the charging and discharging processes of the energy storage unit as logical variables, a mixed logical dynamic (MLD) model for the microgrid in islanded mode is established. Based on this model, model predictive control (MPC) theory is employed to optimize the energy management strategy, aiming to stabilize the DC bus voltage of the photovoltaic (PV) unit and minimize the switching frequency of the energy storage unit’s charging and discharging processes during system operation.

To further improve the fuel economy of hybrid tractors, an energy management strategy based on model predictive control (MPC) solved by dynamic programming (DP) is proposed, taking into account the various typical operating conditions of tractors. A coupled dynamics model was constructed for a series diesel–electric hybrid tractor under three typical working conditions: plowing, rotary tillage, and transportation. Using DP to solve for the globally optimal SOC change trajectory under each operating condition of the tractor as the SOC constraint for MPC, we designed an energy management strategy based on DP-MPC. Finally, a hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) test platform was built using components such as Matlab/Simulink, NI-Veristand, PowerCal, HIL test cabinet, and vehicle controller. The designed energy management strategy was then tested using the HIL test platform. The test results show that, compared with the energy management strategy based on power following, the DP-MPC-based energy management strategy reduces fuel consumption by approximately 7.97%, 13.06%, and 11.03%, respectively, under the three operating conditions of plowing, rotary tillage, and transportation. This achieves fuel-saving performances of approximately 91.34%, 94.87%, and 96.69% compared to global dynamic programming. The test results verify the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. This research can provide an important reference for the design of energy management strategies for hybrid tractors.

Nowadays, due to climate change and disappearance of fossil fuels, hybrid electric UAVs using renewable energy sources are being developed. In addition, although research on UAVs with a large wingspan and high weight is common due to their long endurance, research on mini UAVs has remained limited. This study aims to increase the energy capacity of solar-powered mini UAVs and thus extend their endurance by developing a fixed-wing hybrid UAV that can fly with solar energy as much as possible, especially during the cruise phase. In this study, a solar-powered mini VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) UAV with a wingspan of 1.8 m and weight of 3.3 kg is developed and a model of the system consisting of solar cells, a battery, a super capacitor, and a DC/DC converter is created in MATLAB/Simulink software (R2023b). Additionally, state machine control (SMC), a rule-based (RB) energy management strategy (EMS), has been applied to this model. While the power obtained from the sun is divided among the other energy components, the durability of the UAV is increased, and the excess energy is stored as altitude energy to be used when necessary. As a result, in this study, an energy management algorithm including altitude energy has been successfully applied to a solar-powered UAV, achieving an 11.11% energy saving.

Multi-rotor drones, a kind of unmanned equipment which is widely used in the military, commercial consumption and other fields, have been developed very rapidly in recent years. However, their short flight time has hindered the expansion of their application range. This can be addressed by utilizing hydrogen fuel cells, which exhibit high energy density, strong adaptability to ambient temperature, and no pollution emissions, as the power source. Accordingly, the application of hydrogen fuel cells as the power source in multi-rotor drones is a promising technology that has attracted significant research attention. This paper summarizes the development process of hydrogen fuel cell multi-rotor drones and analyzes the key obstacles that need to be addressed for the further development of hydrogen fuel cell multi-rotor drones, including structural light weight, hydrogen storage methods, energy management strategies, thermal management, etc. Additionally, prospects for the future development of hydrogen fuel cell multi-rotor drones are presented.

Energy management strategy (EMS), as a core technology in fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), profoundly influences the lifespan of fuel cells and the economy of the vehicle. Aiming at the problem of the EMS of FCVs based on a global optimization algorithm not being applicable in real-time, a rule extraction-based EMS is proposed for fuel cell commercial vehicles. Based on the results of the dynamic programming (DP) algorithm in the CLTC-C cycle, the deep learning approach is employed to extract output power rules for fuel cell, leading to the establishment of a rule library. Using this library, a real-time applicable rule-based EMS is designed. The simulated driving platform is built in a CARLA, SUMO, and MATLAB/Simulink joint simulation environment. Simulation results indicate that the proposed strategy yields savings ranging from 3.64% to 8.96% in total costs when compared to the state machine-based strategy.

The green port multi-energy microgrid, featuring renewable energy generation, hydrogen energy, and energy storage systems, is an important gateway to achieve the net-zero emission goal. But there are many forms of energy in green port multi-energy microgrid systems, the power fluctuates frequently, and the port loads with large fluctuations and fast changes. These factors can easily lead to the problem of the state of charge exceeding the limit of the energy storage system. To distribute the fluctuating power in the green port multi-energy microgrid system reasonably and maintain the state of charge (SOC) of the hybrid energy storage system in an moderate range, an energy management strategy (EMS) based on dual-stage fuzzy control with a low pass-filter algorithm is proposed in this paper. First, the mathematical model of a green port multi-energy microgrid system is established. Then, fuzzy rules are designed, and the dual-stage fuzzy controller is used to change the time constant of the low-pass filter (LPF) and modify the initial power distribution by an LPF algorithm. Finally, simulation models are built in Matlab 2016a/Simulink. The simulation results demonstrate that, compared with other algorithms under the control of the EMS proposed in this paper, the high-frequency component in the flywheel power is smaller, and the SOC of the supercapacitor is maintained in a reasonable range of 34–78%, which extends the lifespan of the flywheel and supercapacitor. Additionally, it has a faster automatic adjustment ability for the state of charge of the energy storage system, which is conducive to better maintaining the stable operation of green port multi-energy microgrid systems.

Fuel cell hybrid electric trucks have become a cutting-edge field in understanding urban traffic emissions due to their enormous potential in low-carbon areas. In order to improve the economy of fuel cell hybrid electric trucks and reduce the decline of fuel cell lifespan, this paper proposes a multi-objective energy management strategy that optimizes weight coefficients. On the basis of establishing a fuel cell battery hybrid system model, three modes of uniform speed, acceleration, and deceleration were identified through clustering analysis of vehicle speed. Reinforcement learning algorithms were used to learn the corresponding weights for different modes, which reduced the decline in fuel cell life while improving the economic efficiency. The simulation results indicate that, under the conditions of no load, half load, and full load, the truck only sacrificed 0.9–5.6%, 1.7–2.6%, and 1.2–1.6% SOC, saving 5.7–6.45%, 5.9–6.67%, and 6.1–6.67% in lifespan loss, and reducing hydrogen consumption by 3.0–7.1%, 2.8–4.4%, and 1.0–3.0%, respectively.

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been regarded as one of the promising alternatives to zero-emission transportation. New EV registrations have increased as a result of government policies and consumers’ awareness of climate change. Moreover, EV technology is being improved through ongoing research and development efforts. Among these, a powertrain with a combination of two electric motors has been proposed for high driving and efficiency performance. The study presents a comprehensive state-of-the-art review of architectures and energy distribution for a dual-motor equipped with dual-source EV system. In detail, various dual-motor configurations, and energy management strategies (EMSs) used in the literature are investigated and categorized. A comparison of the benefits and drawbacks of existing topologies and the EMSs of hybrid energy storage systems (HESSs) is also discussed. Following that, research gaps have been considered. This study can be used as a reference for researchers who are interested in the design and optimal control of the dual-motor dual-source EVs.

High-speed railways generate a large amount of regenerative braking energy during operation but this energy is not utilized efficiently. In order to realize the recycling of regenerative braking energy of high-speed railways, the hybrid energy storage type railway power conditioner (RPC) system is proposed. The working principle and the control strategy of the system are studied. The energy management strategy consisting of a hybrid energy storage system charging and discharging strategy and variational modal decomposition (VMD) power allocation strategy is proposed. Three system operation modes are proposed: the power of the hybrid energy storage system is decomposed by VMD and an interrelationship number is proposed to determine the lithium battery and supercapacitor power. The hardware-in-the-loop test experiments are conducted by the StarSim power electronics small-step real-time simulator from Modeling Tech and the validation analysis is carried out on MATLAB/Simulink with the actual measurement data of a traction substation on the Lanzhou–Xinjiang line. The results verify that the proposed strategy can effectively recycle the regenerative braking energy, realize the peak-shaving effect on the load, and reduce the energy consumption of the train.

This article suggests a hybrid DC microgrid (HDCMG) with different levels of DC bus voltages to use for various types of loads. The available sources in the HDCMG are wind generating systems (WGSs), photovoltaic (PV) systems, battery banks, and the AC grid for emergencies. The various levels of the DC bus voltages are 760 V, 380 V, and 48 V for different application uses such as electric vehicles and home applications. In addition, the controller plays an important role in the proposed system to achieve the desired DC bus voltage levels and extract the maximum power point (MPP) from the WGS and PV systems. In order to check the power continuity for the critical loads and improve the overall system performance, a suggested energy management strategy (SEMS) is developed. The SEMS is based on the optimum generated power and the state-of-charge (SOC) of the battery banks. Further, the SEMS is developed as a way to prevent battery storage from overcharging and deep discharging. The mathematical relations of the proposed HDCMG and MPP tracking are described. The bidirectional 3-Φ inverter connects the 760 V bus voltage to the AC grid for regulating this DC bus by absorbing the excess power or supplying the required power during the shortage in the generation and the low SOC of the battery storage. Buck converters with controlled duty cycles rather than constant duty cycles are used to obtain 380 V and 48 V from 760 V to achieve better dynamic responses. The overall HDCMG is evaluated using the MATLAB/Simulink package under different working cases to verify the capability of the control system and the PEMS. The obtained results are discussed and show the good performance and the capability of the overall system under the different scenarios, including (i) a comparison between variable duty and constant duty; (ii) high/low generated power and the SOC of the battery in the acceptable region; (iii) high/low generated power and the SOC of the battery in the critical region; and (iv) high/low generated power and the SOC of the battery in the overcharging region.

The integration of PV and energy storage systems (ESS) into buildings is a recent trend. By optimizing the component sizes and operation modes of PV-ESS systems, the system can better mitigate the intermittent nature of PV output. Although various methods have been proposed to optimize component size and achieve online energy management in PV-ESS systems, the optimal interconnection between them has received less attention. In order to maximize the effectiveness of systems with limited component sizes and address the impact of uncertainty on the system, an optimization framework is proposed for determining the optimal size of the PV-ESS system. The proposed framework consists of five parts: determination of optimal size, analysis of component output characteristics, system state prediction, parameter calibration of energy management strategies, and update of system components output features, and it considers uncertain factors, including climate, different components, and battery degradation caused by irregular charging and discharging, to establish the model for energy saving. To validate the results, four different climates in a year were considered. The obtained results indicate that the proposed framework can effectively achieve the optimal working state of the system, realizing a matching degree of 94.55% between the offline size optimization and online management strategy. The proposed framework’s universality and effectiveness were demonstrated through simulation analysis across four cities with different climates in China.

Electric vehicles are growing in popularity as a form of transportation, but are still underused for several reasons, such as their relatively low range and the high costs associated with manufacturing and maintaining batteries. Many studies using several approaches have been conducted on electric vehicles. Among all studied subjects, here we are interested in the use of machine learning to efficiently manage the energy consumption of electric vehicles, in order to develop intelligent electric vehicles that make quick unprogrammed decisions based on observed data allowing minimal electricity consumption. Our interest is motivated by the adequate results obtained using machine learning in many fields and the increasing but still insufficient use of machine learning to efficiently manage the energy consumption of electric vehicles. From this standpoint, we have built this comprehensive survey covering a broad variety of scientific papers in the field published over the last few years. According to the findings, we identified the current trend and revealed future perspectives.

In light of the energy and environment issues, fuel cell vehicles have many advantages, including high efficiency, low-temperature operation, and zero greenhouse gas emissions, making them an excellent choice for urban environments where air pollution is a significant problem. The dynamics of fuel cells, on the other hand, are relatively slow, owing principally to the dynamics of the air compressor and the dynamics of manifold filling. Because these dynamics can limit the overall performance of fuel cell vehicles, two key technologies that have emerged as critical components of electric vehicle powertrains are batteries and supercapacitors. However, choosing the best hybrid energy storage system that combines a battery and a supercapacitor is a critical task nowadays. An electric vehicle simulated application by MATLAB Code is modeled in this article using the multi-objective particle swarm optimization technique (MOPSO) to determine the appropriate type of batteries and supercapacitors in the SFTP-SC03 drive cycle. This application optimized both component sizing and power management at the same time. Batteries of five distinct types (Lithium, Li-ion, Li-S, Ni-Nicl2, and Ni-MH) and supercapacitors of two different types (Maxwell BCAP0003 and ESHSR-3000CO) were used. Each storage component is distinguished by its weight, capacity, and cost. As a consequence, using a Li-ion battery with the Maxwell BCAP0003 represented the optimal form of hybrid storage in our driving conditions, reducing fuel consumption by approximately 0.43% when compared to the ESHSR-3000CO.

As one of the effective and crucial ways to achieve the energy saving and emission reduction of loaders, hybrid technology has attracted the attention of many scholars and manufacturers. Selecting an appropriate energy management strategy (EMS) is essential to reduce fuel consumption and emissions for hybrid loaders (HLs). In this paper, firstly, the application status of drivetrain configuration of HLs is presented. Then, the working condition characteristics of loaders are analyzed. On the basis of this, the configurations of HLs are classified, and the features and research status of each configuration are described. Next, taking the energy consumption optimization of HLs as the object, the implementation principle and research progress of the proposed rule strategy and optimization strategy are compared and analyzed, and the differences of existing EMSs and future development challenges are summarized. Finally, combining the advantages of intelligent control and optimal control, the future prospective development direction of EMSs for HLs is considered. The conclusions of the paper can be identified in two points: firstly, although the existing EMSs can effectively optimize the energy consumption of HLs, the dependence of the strategy on the mechanism model and the vehicle parameters can reduce the applicability of the strategy to heterogeneous HLs and the robustness to a complex working condition. Secondly, combining the advantages of intelligent control and optimal control, designing an intelligent EMS not depending on the vehicle analytical model will provide a new method for solving the energy consumption optimization problem of HL.

In grid-connected operations, a microgrid can solve the problem of surplus power through regeneration; however, in the case of standalone operations, the only method to solve the surplus power problem is charging the energy storage system (ESS). However, because there is a limit to the capacity that can be charged in an ESS, a separate energy management strategy (EMS) is required for stable microgrid operation. This paper proposes an EMS for a hybrid AC/DC microgrid based on an artificial neural network (ANN). The ANN is composed of a two-step process that operates the microgrid by outputting the operation mode and charging and discharging the ESS. The microgrid consists of an interlinking converter to link with the AC distributed system, a photovoltaic converter, a wind turbine converter, and an ESS. The control method of each converter was determined according to the mode selection of the ANN. The proposed ANN-based EMS was verified using a laboratory-scale hybrid AC/DC microgrid. The experimental results reveal that the microgrid operation performed stably through control of individual converters via mode selection and reference to ESS power, which is the result of ANN integration.

In order to optimize the energy management strategy and solve the problem of the power quality degradation of fuel cell hybrid electric ships, a particle swarm optimization algorithm based energy management strategy is proposed in this paper. Taking a fuel cell ship as the target ship, a system simulation model is built in Matlab/Simulink to verify the proposed energy management strategy. Through simulations and comparisons, the bus voltage curve of the optimized hybrid power system fluctuates more gently, and the voltage sag is smaller. The amplitude of the voltage fluctuation under maneuvering conditions is reduced by 55% compared with that of the original ship. The charging and discharging process of the composite energy storage system is optimized under maneuvering conditions, the power quality of the marine power grid is improved, and the use of the energy management strategy can extend the service life of the battery.

The configuration and control strategy of hybrid powertrain systems are significant for the development of hybrid electric vehicles (HEV) because they significantly affect their comprehensive performance. In this paper, the types, features, and applications of the mainstream hybrid powertrain configurations on the market in recent years are summarized and the effects of different configurations on the comprehensive performance of HEVs are compared. Moreover, the technical routes for each hybrid configuration are highlighted, as configuration optimization methods have become a technical difficulty. In addition, the technological advances in the steady-state energy management strategy and dynamic coordinated control strategy for hybrid powertrain systems are studied. The optimization of the steady-state energy management strategy mainly involves assigning the working point and working range of each power source reasonably. However, with the increase in the complexity of optimization algorithms, real-time control of HEVs still needs to be improved. The optimization of the dynamic coordinated control strategy mainly focuses on the stability and smoothness of the dynamic process involving switching and shifting the working mode. The optimization of the dynamic control process for the system remains to be further improved. It is pointed out that the configurations and strategies should be optimized jointly to obtain a comprehensive improvement in the system performance. This paper provides an informative basis and technical support for the design and optimization of a hybrid powertrain system.

The transport sector generates more than 35% of total CO2 emissions. Electric vehicles are the future of transportation systems, and the demand for electric vehicles has grown considerably in the last few years due to government support. Companies worldwide are investing heavily in electric car charging stations based on renewable energy. This research study presents a complete design (including an appropriate energy management strategy) for a photovoltaic energy-based electric vehicle charging station (EVCS) with or without the support of a fuel cell and electrolyzer system. The parameters considered for designing the necessary capacity of the battery pack to support the required load are relative to the location-specific solar radiation (using RETScreen® Clean Energy Management Software, Version 9.0, Government of Canada, Toronto, Canada), the efficiency of the solar panel, the used strategy, etc. The battery capacity in the EVCS design based on a power-following strategy is about 20 times smaller than that resulting in the reference design. Additionally, the cost for an EVCS design based on a power-following strategy is almost half that resulting in the reference design. An analysis of the power-following strategy was carried out according to three EVCS operating scenarios.

The energy management system (EMS) of hybridization and electrification plays a pivotal role in improving the stability and cost-effectiveness of future vehicles. Existing efforts mainly concentrate on specific optimization targets, like fuel consumption, without sufficiently taking into account the degradation of on-board power sources. In this context, a novel multi-objective energy management strategy based on deep reinforcement learning is proposed for a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV), explicitly conscious of lithium-ion battery (LIB) wear. To be specific, this paper mainly contributes to three points. Firstly, a non-parametric reward function is introduced, for the first time, into the twin-delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) strategy, to facilitate the optimality and adaptability of the proposed energy management strategy and to mitigate the effort of parameter tuning. Then, to cope with the problem of state redundancy, state space refinement techniques are included in the proposed strategy. Finally, battery health is incorporated into this multi-objective energy management strategy. The efficacy of this framework is validated, in terms of training efficiency, optimality and adaptability, under various standard driving tests.

The application of microgrids (MG) is more and more extensive, therefore it is important to improve the system management method of microgrids. The intended costs can be further minimized when the energy management system is unified with demand side response (DSR) strategies. In this work, we propose a generic method of modeling the equipment in a microgrid including multiple stochastic loads. The microgrid model can be generated on a computer by converting the energy circuit diagram into a signal flow diagram. Then, a demand side response method based on binomial distribution is introduced, and loads are set to different probabilities according to importance. By applying the probability of loads and changing the return coefficient of loads, the problem of individual differences in demand side responses is solved, so as to improve consumer satisfaction. The proposed model is constructed as a mixed-integer linear program (MILP). Cases studies demonstrate feasibility of the proposed modeling method. The demand side response achieves the expected goal. The system management method reduces the operation cost of the energy system of microgrids.

With the rapid development of machine learning, deep reinforcement learning (DRL) algorithms have recently been widely used for energy management in hybrid electric urban buses (HEUBs). However, the current DRL-based strategies suffer from insufficient constraint capability, slow learning speed, and unstable convergence. In this study, a state-of-the-art continuous control DRL algorithm, softmax deep double deterministic policy gradients (SD3), is used to develop the energy management system of a power-split HEUB. In particular, an action masking (AM) technique that does not alter the SD3′s underlying principles is proposed to prevent the SD3-based strategy from outputting invalid actions that violate the system’s physical constraints. Additionally, the transfer learning (TL) method of the SD3-based strategy is explored to avoid repetitive training of neural networks in different driving cycles. The results demonstrate that the learning performance and learning stability of SD3 are unaffected by AM and that SD3 with AM achieves control performance that is highly comparable to dynamic planning for both the CHTC-B and WVUCITY driving cycles. Aside from that, TL contributes to the rapid development of SD3. TL can speed up SD3’s convergence by at least 67.61% without significantly affecting fuel economy.

The powertrain of a fuel cell vehicle typically consists of two energy sources: a proton electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) stack and a battery package. In this paper, multi-dimensional dynamic programming (MDDP) is used to solve the energy management strategy (EMS) of fuel cell hybrid powertrain. This study built a fuel cell hybrid powertrain model, in which the battery model is built based on the Thevenin equivalent circuit. In order to improve the calculating efficiency and maintain the accuracy of the algorithm, the state variables in each stage are divided into primary and secondary. In the reverse solution process, the corresponding relationship between the multi state variables grid and the optimal cumulative function has been changed from three-dimensional to two-dimensional. The EMS based on MDDP is applied to component sizing of a commercial vehicle. Simulations were conducted using MATLAB under the C-WTVC working condition. By analyzing the fuel economy and system durability, the optimal component combination of comprehensive performance is obtained. Compared with the EMS based on dynamic programming (DP), the proposed method effectively improves the calculation accuracy: the hydrogen consumption can be reduced by 3.10%, and the durability of the fuel cell and battery can be improved by 1.08% and 0.13%, respectively.

To address the problem that a single energy management strategy cannot adapt to complex driving conditions, in this paper, a real-time energy management strategy for different driving conditions is proposed to improve fuel economy. First, in order to improve the accuracy and stability of the driving condition identifier, a feature fusion extreme learning machine (FFELM) is used for identification. Secondly, equivalent consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) offline optimization is conducted for different types of driving cycles, and the effect of driving cycle type and driving distance on the energy management strategy under the optimization result is analyzed. A real-time energy management strategy combining driving cycle type, driving distance, and optimal power allocation factor is proposed. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy, combined driving cycles were used for testing. The simulation results show that the proposed strategy can improve the equivalent fuel consumption by 10.21% compared to the conventional strategy CD-CS. The equivalent fuel economy can be improved by 2.5% compared to the single ECMS strategy with the less computational burden. Thus, it is demonstrated that the proposed strategy can be effectively adapted to different driving conditions and shows better real-time and economic performance.

The hydraulic accumulator has the advantages of high power density, fast response, stable operation and high cost performance. However, compared with the electric energy storage method, the hydraulic accumulator has low energy density and large pressure fluctuation while absorbing and discharging energy, which severely limits its application in hydraulic excavators. To improve the potential energy loss of the boom during the lowering process, an electro-hydraulic drive and energy recovery system for excavator booms (EHDR-EEB) based on a battery and accumulator is proposed. As a result, a simulation model of the electro-hydraulic drive and energy management strategy of a 1.6 t pure electric hydraulic excavator is built to investigate the energy regeneration and utilization. The simulation outcomes show that the potential energy recovery rate is as high as 92%. This research on EHDR-EEB makes a significant contribution to the economic improvement of electric hydraulic excavators.

Hybrid Renewable Energy Sources (HRES) integrated into a microgrid (MG) are a cost-effective and convenient solution to supply energy to off-grid and rural areas in developing countries. This research paper focuses on the optimization of an HRES connected to a stand-alone microgrid system consisting of photovoltaics (PV), wind turbines (WT), batteries (BT), diesel generators (DG), and inverters to meet the energy demand of fifteen residential housing units in the city of Djelfa, Algeria. In this context, the multiobjective salp swarm algorithm (MOSSA), which is among the latest nature-inspired metaheuristic algorithms recently introduced for hybrid microgrid system (HMS) optimization, has been proposed in this paper for solving the optimization of an isolated HRES. The proposed multiobjective optimization problem takes into account the cost of energy (COE) and loss of power supply probability (LPSP) as objective functions. The proposed approach is applied to determine three design variables, which are the nominal power of photovoltaic, the number of wind turbines, and the number of battery autonomy days considering higher reliability and minimum COE. In order to perform the optimum size of HMG, MOSSA is combined with a rule-based energy management strategy (EMS). The role of EMS is the coordination of the energy flow between different system components. The effectiveness of using MOSSA in addressing the optimization issue is investigated by comparing its performance with that of the multiobjective dragonfly algorithm (MODA), multiobjective grasshopper optimization algorithm (MOGOA), and multiobjective ant lion optimizer (MOALO). The MATLAB environment is used to simulate HMS. Simulation results confirm that MOSSA achieves the optimum system size as it contributed 0.255 USD/kW h of COE and LPSP of 27.079% compared to MODA, MOGOA, and MOALO. In addition, the optimization results obtained using the proposed method provided a set of design solutions for the HMS, which will help designers select the optimal solution for the HMS.

Energy management strategies have a significant impact on the hydrogen economy of fuel cell trucks and the lifetime of battery and fuel cell systems. This contribution presents the design and optimal calibration of an energy management strategy that is adaptive to the battery and ambient temperatures. Indeed, fuel cell trucks face critical operating conditions due to high ambient temperatures or high loads on long uphill roads. However, the presented adaptive energy management strategy shifts the electric loads to the fuel cell system to limit the battery usage, avoiding accelerated degradation due to battery temperature peaks without hindering the hydrogen economy. The strategy design and calibration involves a multi-objective optimization of performance indicators related to hydrogen consumption, fuel cell degradation, battery thermal state, equivalent charge/discharge cycles, and charge control. This work uses AVL CAMEO to systematically vary the adaptive curve parameters to explore the trade-off between the key performance indicators. The calibration considers real-world driving cycles of road freight vehicles, including measured speed, road elevation, and variable vehicle mass. Moreover, the energy management design is robust because the performance indicators are evaluated over 8935 km, covering an extensive range of real-world driving scenarios. Eventually, the adaptive and predictive energy management strategy proposed in this work can meet all the performance targets thanks to the optimal calibration, and it is particularly effective in avoiding battery temperature peaks.

The Energy Management Strategy (EMS) in Fuel Cell Hybrid Electric Vehicles (FCHEVs) is the key part to enhance optimal power distribution. Indeed, the most recent works are focusing on optimizing hydrogen consumption, without taking into consideration the degradation of embedded energy sources. In order to overcome this lack of knowledge, this paper describes a new health-conscious EMS algorithm based on Model Predictive Control (MPC), which aims to minimize the battery degradation to extend its lifetime. In this proposed algorithm, the health-conscious EMS is normalized in order to address its multi-objective optimization. Then, weighting factors are assigned in the objective function to minimize the selected criteria. Compared to most EMSs based on optimization techniques, this proposed approach does not require any information about the speed profile, which allows it to be used for real-time control of FCHEV. The achieved simulation results show that the proposed approach reduces the economic cost up to 50% for some speed profile, keeping the battery pack in a safe range and significantly reducing energy sources degradation. The proposed health-conscious EMS has been validated experimentally and its online operation ability clearly highlighted on a PEMFC delivery postal vehicle.

For fuel cell hybrid vehicles, the energy distribution mechanism of the fuel cell and power battery should reasonably allocate the power output of the fuel cell and power battery, optimize the efficiency of both and control the power battery SOC to fluctuate within a reasonable range. To test the energy flow and operation characteristics of the powertrain of two hybrid car models on the market, two test vehicles (called vehicle A and vehicle B in this paper) are tested on an AIP 4WD chassis dynamometer under constant power and the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle-Passenger cycle condition, respectively. The test results show that vehicle A has a smaller power battery SOC variation interval and a lower variable rate than vehicle B. The cumulative power battery output energy of vehicle B is more significant than that of vehicle A. More importantly, the current rare public test reports of fuel cell vehicles make this study very valuable. This paper has important reference significance for the energy flow characteristics and energy management strategy of existing fuel cell hybrid vehicles.

Vehicle speed prediction plays a critical role in energy management strategy (EMS). Based on the adaptive particle swarm optimization–least squares support vector machine (APSO-LSSVM) algorithm with BP neural network (BPNN), a novel closed-loop vehicle speed prediction system is proposed. The database of a vehicle internet platform was adopted to construct a speed prediction model based on the APSO-LSSVM algorithm. Furthermore, a BPNN is established according to the local high-precision nonlinear fitting relationship between the predicted value and error so as to correct the prediction value. Then, the results are returned to the APSO-LSSVM model for calculating the minimum fitness function, thus obtaining a closed-loop prediction system. Finally, equivalent fuel consumption minimization strategy (ECMS) based EMS was performed. According to the simulation results, the RMSE performance is 0.831 km/h within 5 s, which is over 20% higher than other performances. Additionally, the training time is 15 min within 5 s, which is advantageous over BPNN. Furthermore, fuel consumption increases by 6.95% compared with the dynamic-programming algorithm and decreased by 5.6%~10.9% compared with the low accuracy of speed prediction. Overall, the proposed method is crucial for optimizing EMS as it is not only effective in improving prediction accuracy but also capable of reducing training time.

Due to the low efficiency and high pollution of conventional internal combustion engine vehicles, the fuel cell hybrid electric vehicles are expected to play a key role in the future of clean energy transportation attributed to the long driving range, short hydrogen refueling time and environmental advantages. The development of energy management strategies has an important impact on the economy and durability, but most strategies ignore the aging of fuel cells and the corresponding impact on hydrogen consumption. In this paper, a rule-based fuzzy control strategy is proposed based on the constructed data-driven online estimation model of fuel cell health. Then, a genetic algorithm is used to optimize this fuzzy controller, where the objective function is designed to consider both the economy and durability by combining the hydrogen consumption cost and the degradation cost characterized by the fuel cell health status. Considering that the rule-based strategy is more sensitive to operating conditions, this paper uses an artificial neural network for predictive control. The results are compared with those obtained from the genetic algorithm optimized fuzzy controller and are found to be very similar, where the prediction accuracy is assessed using MAPE, RMSE and 10-fold cross-validation. Experiments show that the developed strategy has a good generalization capability for variable driving cycles.

This paper presents a simulation-based analysis of hybrid and plug-in hybrid propulsion system concepts for diesel-electric multiple unit regional railway vehicles. These alternative concepts primarily aim to remove emissions in terminal stops with longer stabling periods, with additional benefits reflected in the reduction of overall fuel consumption, produced emissions, and monetary costs. The alternative systems behavior is modeled using a backward-looking quasi-static simulation approach, with the implemented energy management strategy based on a finite state machine control. A comparative assessment of alternative propulsion systems is carried out in a case study of a selected regional railway line operated by Arriva, the largest regional railway undertaking in the Netherlands. The conversion of a standard diesel-electric multiple unit vehicle, currently operating on the network, demonstrated a potential GHG reduction of 9.43–56.92% and an energy cost reduction of 9.69–55.46%, depending on the type of service (express or stopping), energy storage technology selection (lithium-ion battery or double-layer capacitor), electricity production (green or grey electricity), and charging facilities configuration (charging in terminal stations with or without additional charging possibility during short intermediate stops) used. As part of a bigger project aiming to identify optimal transitional solutions towards emissions-free trains, the outcomes of this study will help in the future fleet planning.

Considering the problems of the low energy recovery efficiency and the short driving range of pure electric vehicles, a new electromechanical–hydraulic coupled power electric vehicle is proposed. First, we develop an electromechanical–hydraulic coupled power electric vehicle model and design an energy management strategy to match it. On this basis, an optimization strategy is proposed with the goal of improving the braking energy recovery efficiency and avoiding the impact of high-speed braking energy recovery on the hydraulic system. The energy recovery mode conversion is optimized for different vehicle speeds when braking. Finally, the proposed optimization strategy is verified by joint simulation. The results show that when the vehicle speed is higher than 10 m/s for energy recovery mode switching, the total recovery efficiency of the whole vehicle increases to 97.273% and the SOC of the power battery increases by 0.14%. This provides strong support for improving the driving range of electromechanical–hydraulic coupled power electric vehicles.

This paper presents an energy management strategy for secondary energy sources and their optimization in the context of the tax gap on mineral oils represented by the tax gap on petrol and diesel. Energy companies face drastic economic and environmental challenges; therefore, this area necessarily requires the setting up of transparent economic instruments and, of course, production. The tax gap in VAT collection represents the gap between how much the state could potentially collect from VAT in accordance with the law and how much VAT really comes into the state coffers. The loss of tax revenues is caused by unpaid and undeclared tax liability. The Estimation of the Gap on Corporate Tax in Slovakia is a pilot project of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in cooperation with the Institute for Financial Policy (IFP). The results present the estimation of the tax gap within a two-year delay. It is necessary to consider the estimation of the tax gap in the last two years as preliminary due to possible revisions of the national accounts data. Estimations of the tax gap from 2010 to 2017 indicate a decreasing trend. The significant part of the tax gap decrease can be observed from 2014. The main factor, which determines this decrease, is the improving condition of the Slovak economy. From the point of view of the tax gap, the volume of losses is decreasing and the volume of profit, from which the tax is paid, is increasing.

For commercial applications, the durability and economy of the fuel cell hybrid system have become obstacles to be overcome, which are not only affected by the performance of core materials and components, but also closely related to the energy management strategy (EMS). This paper takes the 7.9 t fuel cell logistics vehicle as the research object, and designed the EMS from two levels of qualitative and quantitative analysis, which are the composite fuzzy control strategy optimized by genetic algorithm and Pontryagin’s minimum principle (PMP) optimized by objective function, respectively. The cost function was constructed and used as the optimization objective to prolong the life of the power system as much as possible on the premise of ensuring the fuel economy. The results indicate that the optimized PMP showed a comprehensive optimal performance, the hydrogen consumption was 3.481 kg/100 km, and the cost was 13.042 $/h. The major contribution lies in that this paper presents a method to evaluate the effect of different strategies on vehicle performance including fuel economy and durability of the fuel cell and battery. The comparison between the two totally different strategies helps to find a better and effective solution to reduce the lifetime cost.

Fuel consumption and emissions in parallel hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) are directly linked to the way the load request to the wheels is managed between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor powered by the battery. A significant reduction in both consumption and emissions can be achieved by optimally controlling the power split on an entire driving mission (full horizon—FH). However, the entire driving path is often not predictable in real applications, hindering the fulfillment of the advantages gained through such an approach. An improvement can be achieved by exploiting more information available onboard, such as those derived from Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and vehicle connectivity (V2X). With this aim, the present work presents the design and verification, in a simulated environment, of an optimized controller for HEVs energy management, based on dynamic programming (DP) and receding horizon (RH) approaches. The control algorithm entails the partial knowledge of the driving mission, and its performance is assessed by evaluating fuel consumption related to a Worldwide harmonized Light vehicles Test Cycle (WLTC) under different control features (i.e., horizon length and update distance). The obtained results show a fuel consumption reduction comparable to that of the FH, with maximum drift from optimal consumption of less than 10%.

To maximize the performance of power batteries and supercapacitors in a hybrid energy storage system (HESS) and to resolve the conflict between the high power demands of electric vehicles and the limitations of high-current charging and discharging of the power battery, a vehicle power demand model incorporating road slope information has been constructed. This paper takes a HESS composed of power battery and supercapacitor as the object, and a rule-based energy management strategy (EMS) based on road slope information is proposed to realize the reasonable distribution and management of energy under the slope condition. According to the slope information of the road ahead, the energy consumption in the next period was predicted, and the supercapacitor is charged and discharged in advance to meet the energy demand of uphill and the energy recovery capacity of downhill to avoid the high current charge and discharge of the battery. Subsequently, the improved EMS performance was simulated under the New York City Cycle (NYCC) driving conditions with additional slope driving conditions. The simulated results indicate that compared to the existing EMS, the proposed EMS based on slope information can effectively distribute the power demand between the power battery and the supercapacitor, can reduce the discharge current and the duration of high-power discharge, and has a 20.4% higher energy recovery efficiency, effectively increasing the cruising range.

This paper aims at presenting an energy management strategy (EMS) based upon optimal control theory for a battery–supercapacitor hybrid power system. The hybrid power system consists of a lithium-ion battery and a supercapacitor with associated bidirectional DC/DC converters. The proposed EMS aims at computing adaptive gains using the salp swarm algorithm and load following control technique to assign the power reference for both the supercapacitor and the battery while achieving optimal performance and stable voltage. The DC/DC converter model is derived utilizing the first-principles method and computes the required gains to achieve the desired power. The fact that the developed algorithm takes disturbances into account increases the power elements’ life expectancies and supplies the power system with the required power.

Millions of three-wheelers in large cities of Asia and Africa contribute to the already increasing urban air pollutants. An emerging method to reduce adverse effects of the growing three-wheeler fleet is hybrid-electric technology. The overall efficiency of a hybrid electric vehicle heavily depends on the power management strategy used in controlling the main powertrain components of the vehicle. Recent studies highlight the need for a comprehensive report on developing an easy-to-implement and efficient control strategy for hybrid electric three-wheelers. Thus, in the present study, a design methodology for a rule-based supervisory controller of a pre-transmission parallel hybrid three-wheeler based on an optimal control strategy (i.e., dynamic programming) is proposed. The optimal control problem for minimizing fuel, emissions (i.e., HC, CO and NOx) and gear shift frequency are solved using dynamic programming (DP). Numerical issues of DP are analyzed and trade-offs between optimizing objectives are presented. Since DP strategy cannot be implemented as a real-time controller, useful strategies are extracted to develop the proposed rule-based strategy. The developed rule-based strategy show performance within 10% of the DP results on WLTC and UDC-NEDC drive cycles and has the clear advantage of being near-optimal, easy-to-implement and computationally less demanding.

In view of the aggravation of global pollution and greenhouse effects, fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) have attracted increasing attention, owing to their ability to release zero emissions. Extended-range fuel cell vehicles (E-RFCEVs) are the most widely used type of fuel cell vehicles. The powertrain system of E-RFCEV is relatively complex. Bond graph theory was used to model the important parts of the E-RFCEV powertrain system: Battery, motor, fuel cell, DC/DC, vehicle, and driver. In order to verify the control effect of energy management strategy (EMS) in a real-time state, bond graph theory was applied to hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) development. An HiL simulation test-bed based on the bond graph model was built, and the HiL simulation verification of the energy management strategy was completed. Based on the comparison to a power-following EMS, it was found that fuzzy logic EMS is more adaptive to vehicle driving conditions. This study aimed to apply bond graph theory to HiL simulations to verify that bond graph modeling is applicable to complex systems.

With the development of technologies in recent decades and the imposition of international standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, car manufacturers have turned their attention to new technologies related to electric/hybrid vehicles and electric fuel cell vehicles. This paper focuses on electric fuel cell vehicles, which optimally combine the fuel cell system with hybrid energy storage systems, represented by batteries and ultracapacitors, to meet the dynamic power demand required by the electric motor and auxiliary systems. This paper compares the latest proposed topologies for fuel cell electric vehicles and reveals the new technologies and DC/DC converters involved to generate up-to-date information for researchers and developers interested in this specialized field. From a software point of view, the latest energy management strategies are analyzed and compared with the reference strategies, taking into account performance indicators such as energy efficiency, hydrogen consumption and degradation of the subsystems involved, which is the main challenge for car developers. The advantages and disadvantages of three types of strategies (rule-based strategies, optimization-based strategies and learning-based strategies) are discussed. Thus, future software developers can focus on new control algorithms in the area of artificial intelligence developed to meet the challenges posed by new technologies for autonomous vehicles.

The efficient use of the incorporation of photovoltaic generation (PV) and an electric vehicle (EV) with the home energy management system (HEMS) can play a significant role in improving grid stability in the residential area and bringing economic benefit to the homeowner. Therefore, this paper presents an energy management strategy in a smart home that integrates an electric vehicle with/without PV generation. The proposed strategy seeks to reduce the household electricity costs and flatten the load curve based on time-of-use pricing, time-varying household power demand, PV generation profile, and EV parameters (arrival and departure times, minimum and maximum limit of the state-of-charge, and initial state-of-charge). The proposed control strategy is divided into two stages: Stage A, which operates in three operating modes according to the unavailability of PV power generation, and Stage B, which operates in five operating modes according to the availability of PV generation. In this study, the proposed strategy enables controlling the amount of energy absorbed by the EV from the grid and/or PV and the amount of energy injected from the EV to the load to ensure that the household electricity costs are minimized, and the household power load profile is flattened. The findings show that both household electricity costs reduction and flattening of the power load profile are achieved. Moreover, the corresponding simulation results exhibit that the proposed strategy for the smart home with EV and PV provides better results than the smart home with EV and without PV in terms of electricity costs reduction and power load profile flattening.

The energy management strategy (EMS) and control algorithm of a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) directly determine its energy efficiency, control effect, and system reliability. For a certain configuration of an HEV powertrain, the challenge is to develop an efficient EMS and an appropriate control algorithm to satisfy a variety of development objectives while not reducing vehicle performance. In this research, a comprehensive, multi-level classification for HEVs is introduced in detail from the aspects of the degree of hybridization (DoH), the position of the motor, the components and configurations of the powertrain, and whether or not the HEV is charged by external power. The principle and research status of EMSs for each type of HEV are summarized and reviewed. Additionally, the EMSs and control algorithms of HEVs are compared and analyzed from the perspectives of characteristics, applications, real-time abilities, and historical development. Finally, some discussions about potential directions and challenges for future research on the energy management systems of HEVs are presented. This review is expected to bring contribution to the development of efficient, intelligent, and advanced EMSs for future HEV energy management systems.

This paper deals with the design of an energy management strategy (EMS) for an industrial hybrid self-guided vehicle (SGV), considering the size of a fuel cell (FC) stack and degradation of a battery pack. In this context, first, a realistic energy model of the SGV was proposed and validated, based on experiments. This model provided a basis for individual components analysis, estimating energy requirements, component sizing, and testing various EMSs, prior to practical implementation. Second, the performance of the developed FC/battery SGV powertrain was validated under three EMS modes. Each mode was studied by considering four different FC sizes and three battery degradation levels. The final results showed that a small FC as a range extender is recommended, to reduce system cost. It is also important to maintain the FC in its high efficiency zones with a minimum ON/OFF cycle, leading to efficiency and lifetime enhancement of FC system. Battery SOC have to be kept at a high level during SGV operation, to support the FC during SGV acceleration. In order to improve the SGV’s overall autonomy, it is also important to minimize the stop and go and rotational SGV motion with appropriate acceleration and deceleration rate.

Drop-and-pull transportation can repeatedly utilize tractors with different trailers and reduce costs, carbon emissions, and the number of tractors to purchase and use. Fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEV) possess high power and long drive endurance. These performance characteristics complement the performance requirements of drop-and-pull transportation of heavy loads and long mileage. This paper proposes a novel fuel-cell electric articulated vehicle featuring three power sources: fuel cell, power battery, and ultracapacitor. Then, based on the proposed vehicle, we expound on a highly efficient and flexible transport system. To compare economics and durability of fuel-cell electric trailers with two energy sources (i.e., fuel-cell-battery) and three energy sources, we developed and simulated a rule-based energy management strategy under driving conditions. The results indicate that, although similar levels of fuel economy and capacity degradation of the fuel cell occur for the proposed vehicle and its two-energy-source counterpart, the ampere–hour throughput of three-energy-source vehicles was 64% lower than that of two-energy-source vehicles, which indicates the introduction of the ultracapacitor in fuel-cell-battery electric articulated vehicles can offer significant protection to the power battery. This result shows that the three energy sources increase the service life of the energy system.

This article is focused on an original control approach applied to a transportation system that includes a polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) as the main energy source and supercapacitors (SC) as the energy storage backup. To interface the SC with the DC bus of the embedded network, a two-port bidirectional DC-DC converter was used. To control the system and ensure its stability, a reduced-order mathematical model of the network was developed through a nonlinear control approach employing a differential flatness algorithm, which is an attractive and efficient solution to make the system stable by overcoming the dynamic issues generally met in the power electronics networks of transportation systems. The design and tuning of the system control were not linked with the equilibrium point at which the interactions between the PEMFC main source, the SC energy storage device, and the loads are taken into consideration by the proposed control law. Besides this, high dynamics in the load power rejection were accomplished, which is the main contribution of this article. To verify the effectiveness of the developed control law, a small-scale experimental test rig was realized in the laboratory and the control laws were implemented in a dSPACE 1103 controller board. The experimental tests were performed with a 1 kW PEMFC source and a 250 F 32 V SC module as an energy storage backup. Lastly, the performances of the proposed control strategy were validated based on real experimental results measured during driving cycles, including motoring mode, ride-though, and regenerative braking mode.

Due to the pressures caused by the energy crisis, environmental pollution, and international regulations, the largest ship-producing nations are exploring renewable resources, such as wind power, solar energy, and fuel cells to save energy and develop more environmentally-friendly ships. Solar energy has recently attracted a great deal of attention from both academics and practitioners; furthermore, the optimization of energy management has become a research topic of great interest. This paper takes a solar-diesel hybrid ship with 5000 car spaces as its research object. Then, following testing on this ship, experimental data were obtained, a multi-objective optimization model related to the ship’s fuel economy and diesel generator’s efficiency was established, and a partial swarm optimization algorithm was used to solve a multi-objective problem. The results show that the optimized energy management strategy for a hybrid energy system should be tested under different electrical loads. Moreover, the hybrid system’s economy should be taken into account when the ship’s power load is high, and the output power from the new energy generation system should be increased as much as possible. Finally, the diesel generators’ efficiency should be taken into consideration when the ship’s electrical load is low, and the injection power of the new energy system should be reduced appropriately.

This paper presents a rule-based energy management strategy for a plug-in hybrid school bus (PHSB). In order to verify the effectiveness and rationality of the proposed energy management strategy, the powertrain and control models were built with MATLAB/Simulink. The PHSB powertrain model includes an engine model, ISG (integrated started and generator) model, drive motor model, power battery packs model, driver model, and vehicle longitudinal dynamics model. To evaluate the controller area network (CAN) bus performance features such as the bus load, signal hysteresis, and to verify the reliability and real-time performance of the CAN bus multi-node control method, a co-simulation platform was built with CANoe and MATLAB/Simulink. The co-simulation results show that the control strategy can meet the requirements of the PHSB’s dynamic performance. Meanwhile, the charge-depleting mode (CD) and charge-sustaining mode (CS) can switch between each other and maintain a state-of-charge (SoC) of around 30%, indicating that the energy management strategy effectively extends the working period of the CD mode and improves the fuel economy further. The energy consumption per 100 km includes 13.7 L diesel and 10.5 kW·h electricity with an initial SoC of 75%. The CANoe simulation results show that the bus communication performs well without error frames.
