A potential approach for designing and fabricating igniter for compact fluorescent lamp is introduced using high‐voltage DC (HVDC) source which is controlled by gate pulse obtained from TRIAC‐based firing circuit. The Cockroft–Walton voltage multiplier circuit is used to design HVDC (2 kV) source where initially optimal rating of capacitance for each stage was considered based on experimental analysis. This design was further simulated by Multisim 11 and characterised experimentally. The response obtained by this method reveals that the HVDC source is able to ignite the fluorescence lamp potentially than the conventional available ignition processes. A high‐voltage (HV) switch is proposed which adopts the floating control circuit to reduce area by removing the passive components and reducing the number of laterally diffused metal–oxide semiconductor field effects (LDMOSFETs). The proposed HV switch consists of three LDMOSFETs and three MOSFETs without any passive components. In addition, the routing complexity of the control signals is greatly reduced by sharing all control signals in the array of switches. The proposed HV switch is fabricated using a 0.18 μm CMOS process with 50 V devices and occupies 85 × 65 μm2. The measured off‐isolation is −53 dB. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Space‐vector pulse‐width modulation (SVPWM) and carrier‐based PWM (CBPWM) of eight‐switch three‐phase inverters (ESTPIs) which are the post‐fault reconfigured topologies for the three‐level neutral‐point‐clamped inverter with an open‐circuit fault in a leg are introduced. On the basis of the PWM regular sampling method, the modulating functions of CBPWM which are equivalent to SVPWM of ESTPIs are derived, therefore the relationship between SVPWM and CBPWM of ESTPIs is revealed. Distributed wind generation (DWG) with increasing permeability has brought an adverse effect to grid security. The battery energy storage system (BESS) can solve this problem. However, the system reliability may be limited by the improper locations of switches. To make full use of BESS, a coordinated planning model of BESS and controllable switches (CSs) is developed for distribution networks. The objective is to minimise overall cost including investment cost, operation cost, network loss, insufficient power supply cost and energy price arbitrage, while satisfying security and BESS limitations.
