This article discusses 320 to 10 Gbit/s demultiplexing using a NOLM based on commercially available components. Optical time division multiplexed (OTDM) systems have attracted much attention in the last decade as a potential supplement to commercially deployed wavelength division multiplexed systems. A key component in an OTDM system is the switch used to extract a single tributary time channel from the aggregated OTDM signal. A drawback when utilising a NOLM is the impact of the group-velocity mismatch between the control pulse and the OTDM signal, i.e. the walk-off. In order to ensure a sufficiently high suppression of the control signal at the output of the NOLM using a filter, the control and the data signal wavelength need to be separated with a minimum spacing determined by the spectral pulse width of the signals and the actual filter shape.
