The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing network that shares information over the Internet via interconnected devices. In addition, this network has led to new security challenges in recent years. One of the biggest challenges is the impact of denial-of-service (DoS) attacks on the IoT. The Information-Centric Network (ICN) infrastructure is a critical component of the IoT. The ICN has gained recognition as a promising networking solution for the IoT by supporting IoT devices to be able to communicate and exchange data with each other over the Internet. Moreover, the ICN provides easy access and straightforward security to IoT content. However, the integration of IoT devices into the ICN introduces new security challenges, particularly in the form of DoS attacks. These attacks aim to disrupt or disable the normal operation of the ICN, potentially leading to severe consequences for IoT applications. Machine learning (ML) is a powerful technology. This paper proposes a new approach for developing a robust and efficient solution for detecting DoS attacks in ICN-IoT networks using ML technology. ML is a subset of artificial intelligence (AI) that focuses on the development of algorithms. While several ML algorithms have been explored in the literature, including neural networks, decision trees (DTs), clustering algorithms, XGBoost, J48, multilayer perceptron (MLP) with backpropagation (BP), deep neural networks (DNNs), MLP-BP, RBF-PSO, RBF-JAYA, and RBF-TLBO, researchers compare these detection approaches using classification metrics such as accuracy. This classification metric indicates that SVM, RF, and KNN demonstrate superior performance compared to other alternatives. The proposed approach was carried out on the NDN architecture because, based on our findings, it is the most used one and has a high percentage of various types of cyberattacks. Defect pattern analysis of wafer bin maps (WBMs) is an important means of identifying process problems. Recently, automated analysis methods using machine learning or deep learning have been studied as alternatives to manual classification by engineers. In this paper, we propose a method to improve the feature extraction performance of defect patterns by transforming the polar coordinate system instead of the existing WBM image input. To reduce the variability of the location representation, defect patterns in the Cartesian coordinate system, where the location of the distributed defect die is not constant, were converted to a polar coordinate system. The CNN classifier, which uses polar coordinate transformed input, achieved a classification accuracy of 91.3%, which is 4.8% better than the existing WBM image-based CNN classifier. Additionally, a tree-structured classifier model that sequentially connects binary classifiers achieved a classification accuracy of 94%. The method proposed in this paper is also applicable to the defect pattern classification of WBMs consisting of different die sizes than the training data. Finally, the paper proposes an automated pattern classification method that uses individual classifiers to learn defect types and then applies ensemble techniques for multiple defect pattern classification. Mental workload is an important predisposing factor for mental illnesses such as depression and is closely related to individual mental health. However, the suboptimal accuracy of utilizing photoplethysmography (PPG) exclusively for mental workload classification has constrained its application within pertinent professional domains. To this end, this paper proposes a signal processing method that combines continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and cardiopulmonary coupling mapping (CPC) to classify mental load via a convolutional neural network (ResAttNet). The method reflects changes in mental workload, as assessed by changes in the association between heart rate variability and respiration. In this paper, the strengths and weaknesses of this method are compared with other traditional psychological workload monitoring methods, such as heart rate variability (HRV), and its validation is performed on the publicly available dataset MAUS. The experiments show that the method is significantly better than previous machine learning methods based on heart rate variability correlation. Meanwhile, the accuracy of the method proposed in this paper reaches 80.5%, which is 6.2% higher than in previous studies. It is comparable to the result of 82.4% for the ECG-based mental workload monitoring system. Recently, as the non-face-to-face society persists due to the coronavirus (COVID-19), the Internet usage rate continues to increase, and input devices, such as keyboards and mice, are mainly used to authenticate users in non-face-to-face environments. Due to the nature of the non-face-to-face environment, important personal data are processed, and since these personal data include authentication information, it is very important to protect them. As such, personal information, including authentication information, is entered mainly from the keyboard, and attackers use attack tools, such as keyloggers, to steal keyboard data in order to grab sensitive user information. Therefore, to prevent disclosure of sensitive keyboard input, various image-based user authentication technologies have emerged that allow sensitive information, such as authentication information, to be entered via mouse. To address mouse data stealing vulnerabilities via GetCursorPos() function or WM_INPUT message, which are representative mouse data attack techniques, a mouse data defense technique has emerged that prevents attackers from classifying real mouse data and fake mouse data by the defender generating fake mouse data. In this paper, we propose a mouse data attack technique using machine learning against a mouse data defense technique using the WM_INPUT message. The proposed technique uses machine learning models to classify fake mouse data and real mouse data in a scenario where the mouse data defense technique, utilizing the WM_INPUT message in image-based user authentication, is deployed. This approach is verified through experiments designed to assess its effectiveness in preventing the theft of real mouse data, which constitute the user's authentication information. For verification purposes, a mouse data attack system was configured, and datasets for machine learning were established by collecting mouse data from the configured attack system. To enhance the performance of machine learning classification, evaluations were conducted based on data organized according to various machine learning models, datasets, features, and generation cycles. The results, highlighting the highest performance in terms of features and datasets were derived. If the mouse data attack technique proposed in this paper is used, attackers can potentially steal the user's authentication information from various websites or services, including software, systems, and servers that rely on authentication information. It is anticipated that attackers may exploit the stolen authentication information for additional damages, such as voice phishing. In the future, we plan to conduct research on defense techniques aimed at securely protecting mouse data, even if the mouse data attack technique proposed in this paper is attempted. Modern power systems are large in size and complex in features; the data collected by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) are often noisy and contaminated; and the machine learning models that have been applied to the transient stability assessment (TSA) of power systems are not sufficiently capable of capturing long-distance dependencies. All these issues make it difficult for data mining-based power system TSA methods to have sufficient accuracy, timeliness, and robustness. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a power system TSA model based on the transformer and neighborhood rough set. The model first uses the neighborhood rough set to deal with the redundant features of the power system trend data and then uses the transformer model to train the TSA model, in which various normalization methods such as Batch Normalization and Layer Normalization are introduced in the process to obtain better evaluation performance and speed up the convergence rate of the model. Finally, the model is evaluated by two evaluation indicators, F 1 − measure and accuracy, with values of 99.61% for accuracy and 0.9972 for F 1 − measure , as soon as the tests on noise contamination and missing data test results on the IEEE39 system show that the NRS-Transformer model proposed in this paper is superior in terms of prediction accuracy, training speed, and robustness. Recent advances in Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) have increased the possibility of generating hyper-realistic DeepFake videos or images to cause serious harm to vulnerable children, individuals, and society at large with misinformation. To overcome this serious problem, many researchers have attempted to detect DeepFakes using advanced machine learning techniques and advanced fusion techniques. This paper presents a detailed review of past and present DeepFake detection methods with a particular focus on media-modality fusion and machine learning. This paper also provides detailed information on available benchmark datasets in DeepFake detection research. This review paper addressed the 67 primary papers that were published between 2015 and 2023 in DeepFake detection, including 55 research papers in image and video DeepFake detection methodologies and 15 research papers on identifying and verifying speaker authentication. This paper offers lucrative information on DeepFake detection research and offers a unique review analysis of advanced machine learning and modality fusion that sets it apart from other review papers. This paper further offers informed guidelines for future work in DeepFake detection utilizing advanced state-of-the-art machine learning and information fusion models that should support further advancement in DeepFake detection for a sustainable and safer digital future. The swift embrace of Industry 4.0 paradigms has led to the growing convergence of Information Technology (IT) networks and Operational Technology (OT) networks. Traditionally isolated on air-gapped and fully trusted networks, OT networks are now becoming more interconnected with IT networks due to the advancement and applications of IoT. This expanded attack surface has led to vulnerabilities in Cyber–Physical Systems (CPSs), resulting in increasingly frequent compromises with substantial economic and life safety repercussions. The existing methods for the anomaly detection of security threats typically use simple threshold-based strategies or apply Machine Learning (ML) algorithms to historical data for the prediction of future anomalies. However, due to the high levels of heterogeneity across different CPS environments, minimizing the opportunities for transfer learning, and the scarcity of real-world data for training, the existing ML-based anomaly detection techniques suffer from a poor predictive performance. This paper introduces a hybrid anomaly detection approach designed to identify threats to CPSs by combining the signature-based anomaly detection typically utilized in IT networks, the threshold-based anomaly detection typically utilized in OT networks, and behavioural-based anomaly detection using Ensemble Learning (EL), which leverages the strengths of multiple ML algorithms against the same dataset to increase the accuracy. Multiple public research datasets were used to validate the proposed approach, with the hybrid methodology employing a divide-and-conquer strategy to offload the detection of certain cyber threats to computationally inexpensive signature-based and threshold-based methods using domain knowledge to minimize the size of the behavioural-based data needed for ML model training, thus achieving a higher accuracy over a reduced timeframe. The experimental results showed accuracy improvements of 4–7% over those of the conventional ML classifiers in performing anomaly detection across multiple datasets, which is particularly important to the operators of CPS environments due to the high financial and life safety costs associated with interruptions to system availability. Machine learning is increasingly and ubiquitously being used in the medical domain. Evaluation metrics like accuracy, precision, and recall may indicate the performance of the models but not necessarily the reliability of their outcomes. This paper assesses the effectiveness of a number of machine learning algorithms applied to an important dataset in the medical domain, specifically, mental health, by employing explainability methodologies. Using multiple machine learning algorithms and model explainability techniques, this work provides insights into the models' workings to help determine the reliability of the machine learning algorithm predictions. The results are not intuitive. It was found that the models were focusing significantly on less relevant features and, at times, unsound ranking of the features to make the predictions. This paper therefore argues that it is important for research in applied machine learning to provide insights into the explainability of models in addition to other performance metrics like accuracy. Federated learning (FL) is a distributed machine learning method in which client nodes train deep neural network models locally using their own training data and then send that trained model to a server, which then aggregates all of the trained models into a globally trained model. This protects personal information while enabling machine learning with vast amounts of data through parallel learning. Nodes that train local models are typically mobile or edge devices from which data can be easily obtained. These devices typically run on batteries and use wireless communication, which limits their power, making their computing performance and reliability significantly lower than that of high-performance computing servers. Therefore, training takes a long time, and if something goes wrong, the client may have to start training again from the beginning. If this happens frequently, the training of the global model may slow down and the final performance may deteriorate. In a general computing system, a checkpointing method can be used to solve this problem, but applying an existing checkpointing method to FL may result in excessive overheads. Recent technological advancements such as IoT and Big Data have granted industries extensive access to data, opening up new opportunities for integrating artificial intelligence (AI) across various applications to enhance production processes. We cite two critical areas where AI can play a key role in industry: product quality control and predictive maintenance. This paper presents a survey of AI applications in the domain of Industry 4.0, with a specific focus on product quality control and predictive maintenance. Experiments were conducted using two datasets, incorporating different machine learning and deep learning models from the literature. Furthermore, this paper provides an overview of the AI solution development approach for product quality control and predictive maintenance.
