Based on the literature data, the incidence of superficial and invasive non-dermatophyte mold infection (NDMI) has increased. Many of these infections are undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, thus causing inadequate treatment procedures followed by critical conditions or even mortality of the patients. Accurate diagnosis of these infections requires complex mycological analyses and operator skills, but simple, fast, and more efficient mycological tests are still required to overcome the limitations of conventional fungal diagnostic procedures. In this study, software has been developed to provide an efficient mycological diagnosis using a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) model as a core classifier. Using EfficientNet-B2 architecture and permanent slides of NDM isolated from patient's materials (personal archive of Prof. Otašević, Department of Microbiology and Immunology, Medical Faculty, University of Niš, Serbia), a multi-CNN model has been trained and then integrated into the diagnostic tool, with a 93.73% accuracy of the main model. The Grad-CAM visualization model has been used for further validation of the pattern recognition of the model. The software, which makes the final diagnosis based on the rule of the major method, has been tested with images provided by different European laboratories, showing an almost faultless accuracy with different test images. This study focuses on improving sentiment analysis in restaurant reviews by leveraging transfer learning and transformer-based pre-trained models. This work evaluates the suitability of pre-trained deep learning models for analyzing Natural Language Processing tasks in Portuguese. It also explores the viability of utilizing edge devices for Natural Language Processing tasks, considering their computational limitations and resource constraints. Specifically, we employ bidirectional encoder representations from transformers and robustly optimized BERT approach, two state-of-the-art models, to build a sentiment review classifier. The classifier's performance is evaluated using accuracy and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve as the primary metrics. Our results demonstrate that the classifier developed using ensemble techniques outperforms the baseline model (from 0.80 to 0.84) in accurately classifying restaurant review sentiments when three classes are considered (negative, neutral, and positive), reaching an accuracy and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve higher than 0.8 when examining a Zomato restaurant review dataset, provided for this work. This study seeks to create a model for the precise classification of Portuguese reviews into positive, negative, or neutral categories. The flexibility of deploying our model on affordable hardware platforms suggests its potential to enable real-time solutions. Autonomous unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology is a promising technology for minimizing human involvement in dangerous activities like urban search and rescue missions (USAR), both in indoor and outdoor. Automated navigation from outdoor to indoor environments is not trivial, as it encompasses the ability of a UAV to automatically map and locate the openings in a damaged building. This study focuses on developing a deep learning model for the detection of damaged building openings in real time. A novel damaged building-opening dataset containing images and mask annotations, as well as a comparison between single and multi-task learning-based detectors are given. The deep learning-based detector used in this study is based on YOLOv5. First, this study compared the different versions of YOLOv5 (i.e., small, medium, and large) capacity to perform damaged building-opening detections. Second, a multitask learning YOLOv5 was trained on the same dataset and compared with the single-task detector. The multitask learning (MTL) was developed based on the YOLOv5 object detection architecture, adding a segmentation branch jointly with the detection head. This study found that the MTL-based YOLOv5 can improve detection performance by combining detection and segmentation losses. The YOLOv5s-MTL trained on the damaged building-opening dataset obtained 0.648 mAP, an increase of 0.167 from the single-task-based network, while its inference speed was 73 frames per second on the tested platform. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology has advanced significantly, now capable of performing tasks previously believed to be exclusive to skilled humans. However, AI models, in contrast to humans who can develop skills with relatively less data, often require substantial amounts of data to emulate human cognitive abilities in specific areas. In situations where adequate pre-training data is not available, meta-learning becomes a crucial method for enhancing generalization. The Model Agnostic Meta-Learning (MAML) algorithm, which employs second-order derivative calculations to fine-tune initial parameters for better starting points, plays a pivotal role in this area. However, the computational demand of this method can be challenging for modern models with a large number of parameters. The concept of the Approximate Hessian Effect is introduced in this context, examining the effectiveness of second-order derivatives in identifying initial parameters conducive to high generalization performance. The study suggests the use of cosine similarity and squared error (L2 loss) as a loss function within the Approximate Hessian Effect framework to modify gradient weights, aiming for more generalizable model parameters. Additionally, an algorithm that relies on first-order calculations is presented, designed to achieve performance levels comparable to MAML. This approach was tested and compared with traditional MAML methods using both the MiniImagenet dataset and a modified MNIST dataset. The results were analyzed to evaluate its efficiency. Compared to previous studies that achieved good performance using only the first derivative, this approach is more efficient because it does not require iterative loops to converge on additional loss functions. In the field of mining robot maintenance, in order to enhance the research on predictive modeling, we introduce the LODS model (long short-term memory network (LSTM) optimized deep fusion neural network (DFNN) with spatiotemporal attention network (STAN)). Traditional models have shortcomings in handling the long-term dependencies of time series data and mining the complexity of spatiotemporal information in the field of mine maintenance. The LODS model integrates the advantages of LSTM, DFNN and STAN, providing a comprehensive method for effective feature extraction and prediction. Through experimental evaluation on multiple data sets, the experimental results show that the LODS model achieves more accurate predictions, compared with traditional models and optimization strategies, and achieves significant reductions in MAE, MAPE, RMSE and MSE of 15.76, 5.59, 2.02 and 11.96, respectively, as well as significant reductions in the number of parameters and computational complexity. It also achieves higher efficiency in terms of the inference time and training time. The LODS model performs well in all the evaluation indexes and has significant advantages; thus, it can provide reliable support for the equipment failure prediction of the mine maintenance robot. The first publication on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in pediatrics dates back to 1984. Since then, research on AI in pediatrics has become much more popular, and the number of publications has largely increased. Consequently, a need for a holistic research landscape enabling researchers and other interested parties to gain insights into the use of AI in pediatrics has arisen. To fill this gap, a novel methodology, synthetic knowledge synthesis (SKS), was applied. Using SKS, we identified the most prolific countries, institutions, source titles, funding agencies, and research themes and the most frequently used AI algorithms and their applications in pediatrics. The corpus was extracted from the Scopus (Elsevier, The Netherlands) bibliographic database and analyzed using VOSViewer, version 1.6.20. Done An exponential growth in the literature was observed in the last decade. The United States, China, and Canada were the most productive countries. Deep learning was the most used machine learning algorithm and classification, and natural language processing was the most popular AI approach. Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images are inevitably interspersed with speckle noise due to their coherent imaging mechanism, which greatly hinders subsequent related research and application. In recent studies, deep learning has become an effective tool for despeckling remote sensing images. However, preserving more texture details while removing speckle noise remains a challenging task in the field of SAR image despeckling. Furthermore, most despeckling algorithms are designed specifically for a specific look and seriously lack generalizability. Therefore, in order to remove speckle noise in SAR images, a novel end-to-end frequency domain decomposition network (SAR−FDD) is proposed. The method first performs frequency domain decomposition to generate high-frequency and low-frequency information. In the high-frequency branch, a mean filter is employed to effectively remove noise. Then, an interactive dual-branch framework is utilized to learn the details and structural information of SAR images, effectively reducing speckles by fully utilizing features from different frequencies. In addition, a blind denoising model is trained to handle noisy SAR images with unknown noise levels. The experimental results demonstrate that the SAR−FDD achieves good visual effects and high objective evaluation metrics on both simulated and real SAR test sets (peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR): 27.59 ± 1.57 and structural similarity index (SSIM): 0.78 ± 0.05 for different speckle noise levels), demonstrating its strong denoising performance and ability to preserve edge textures. Deep-learning-based breast cancer image diagnosis is currently a prominent and growingly popular area of research. Existing convolutional-neural-network-related methods mainly capture breast cancer image features based on spatial domain characteristics for classification. However, according to digital signal processing theory, texture images usually contain repeated patterns and structures, which appear as intense energy at specific frequencies in the frequency domain. Motivated by this, we make an attempt to explore a breast cancer histopathology classification application in the frequency domain and further propose a novel multi-branch spectral channel attention network, i.e., the MbsCANet. It expands the interaction of frequency domain attention mechanisms from a multi-branch perspective via combining the lowest frequency features with selected high frequency information from two-dimensional discrete cosine transform, thus preventing the loss of phase information and gaining richer context information for classification. We thoroughly evaluate and analyze the MbsCANet on the publicly accessible BreakHis breast cancer histopathology dataset. It respectively achieves the optimal image-level and patient-level classification results of 99.01% and 98.87%, averagely outperforming the spatial-domain-dominated models by a large margin, and visualization results also demonstrate the effectiveness of the MbsCANet for this medical image application. In the era of Industry 4.0 and beyond, ball bearings remain an important part of industrial systems. The failure of ball bearings can lead to plant downtime, inefficient operations, and significant maintenance expenses. Although conventional preventive maintenance mechanisms like time-based maintenance, routine inspections, and manual data analysis provide a certain level of fault prevention, they are often reactive, time-consuming, and imprecise. On the other hand, machine learning algorithms can detect anomalies early, process vast amounts of data, continuously improve in almost real time, and, in turn, significantly enhance the efficiency of modern industrial systems. In this work, we compare different machine learning and deep learning techniques to optimise the predictive maintenance of ball bearing systems, which, in turn, will reduce the downtime and improve the efficiency of current and future industrial systems. For this purpose, we evaluate and compare classification algorithms like Logistic Regression and Support Vector Machine, as well as ensemble algorithms like Random Forest and Extreme Gradient Boost. We also explore and evaluate long short-term memory, which is a type of recurrent neural network. We assess and compare these models in terms of their accuracy, precision, recall, F1 scores, and computation requirement. Our comparison results indicate that Extreme Gradient Boost gives the best trade-off in terms of overall performance and computation time. For a dataset of 2155 vibration signals, Extreme Gradient Boost gives an accuracy of 96.61% while requiring a training time of only 0.76 s. A stable output voltage of a boost converter is vital for the appropriate functioning of connected devices and loads in a DC microgrid. Variations in load demands and source uncertainties can damage equipment and disrupt operations. In this study, a modified twin-delayed deep deterministic policy gradient (TD3) algorithm is proposed to regulate the output voltage of a boost converter in a DC microgrid. TD3 optimizes PI controller gains, which ensure system stability by employing a non-negative, fully connected layer. To achieve optimal gains, multi-deep reinforcement learning agents are trained. The agents utilize the error signal to obtain the desired output voltage. Furthermore, a new reward function used in the TD3 algorithm is introduced. The proposed controller is tested under load variations and input voltage uncertainties. Simulation and experimental results demonstrate that TD3 outperforms PSO, GA, and the conventional PI. TD3 exhibits less steady-state error, reduced overshoots, fast response times, fast recovery times, and a small voltage deviation.
