The article focuses on the disadvantages of evaluating students based on their achievement in end of the year examinations. It explains that examinations do not accurately reflect improvement or learning processes. The need for improved methods of accountability in schools is explored and the achievement gap between white and minority students is discussed. The effects of the U.S. No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) on educational accountability and assessment are examined and suggestions on how to improve educational evaluation techniques are presented.
