We here present FOCA (Italian FlOod and Catchment Atlas), the first systematic collection of data of Italian river catchments for which discharge historical time series are available. Hydrometric information, including annual maximum peak discharge and average daily annual maximum discharge, is complemented by several geomorphological, climatological, extreme rainfall, land cover and soil-related catchment attributes. All hydrologic information derives from the most recently released datasets of discharge and rainfall measurements. This paper provides a description of all the raw data and the algorithms used to build the basin attributes dataset, to enhance reproducibility and transferability of the analysis. We also describe the approaches adopted to solve problems encountered during the Digital Elevation Model elaboration in areas characterized by complex morphology. Details about the data quality-control procedure developed to detect and correct errors is also reported. One of the main novelties of FOCA with respect to other national-scale datasets is the inclusion of a rich set of geomorphological attributes and of extreme rainfall features spatially averaged over the watershed. With this first nationwide data collection (available at https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.8060737), a wide range of environmental applications, with particular reference to flood studies, can be undertaken on the Italian territory. Global Navigation Satellite Systems are well-known fundamental tools for crustal monitoring projects and tectonic studies, thanks to the high coverage and the high-quality data. In slow convergent margins, in particular, where the deformation rates are of the order of few mm/yr, the GNSS monitoring is beneficial to detect the diffused deformation which is responsible for the tectonic stress accrual. Its strength is the high precision reached by GNSS permanent stations, particularly if long span-data and stable monuments are available at all the stations. North-East Italy is a region which can take the most from continuous and high-precision geodetic monitoring, since it is a tectonically active region located in the northernmost sector of the Adria microplate, slowly converging with the Eurasia plate, but characterised by low deformation rates and moderate seismicity. Furthermore, this region is equipped with a permanent GNSS network providing real-time data and daily observations over two decades. The Friuli Venezia Giulia Deformation Network (FReDNet) was established in the area in 2002 to monitor crustal deformation and contribute to the regional seismic hazard assessment. This paper describes GNSS time series spanning two decades of stations located in the NE-Italy and surroundings, as well as the outcoming velocity field. The documented dataset has been retrieved by processing the GNSS observations with the GAMIT/GLOBK software ver10.71, which allows calculating high-precision coordinate time series, position and velocity for each GNSS station, and by taking advantage of the high-performance computing resources of the Italian High-Performance Computing Centre (CINECA) clusters. The GNSS observations (raw and standard RINEX formats) and the time series estimated with the same procedure are currently daily continued, collected and stored in the framework of a long-term monitoring project. The paper reports field data provided by the automatic monitoring of the annual hydrological response of a shallow deposit of loose pyroclastic soils located in a mountainous area of Campania, Southern Italy. The monitoring station is installed along the northern slope of mount Cornito, about 2 km east of the town of Cervinara, which in December 1999 had been involved in a rainfall-induced flowslide. The collected data concern rainfall height, soil moisture content and suction. In particular, the installation at the same depths of suction and moisture sensors allows to estimate the soil water retention features that seem to indicate some hysteretic nature of the wetting/drying processes induced by weather conditions and their influence on the local stability conditions. Detailed and accurate geomorphological historical landslide inventory maps are an invaluable source of information for many research topics and applications. Their systematic preparation worldwide has been advised by many researchers as it may foster our knowledge on landslides, their spatial and temporal distribution, their potential interaction with the built environment, their contribution to landscape dynamics, their response to climate change in the past. Due to the extreme variability of the morphological and radiometric elements that can reveal historical landslides, geomorphological historical landslide inventory maps are produced by expert interpretation, which makes it a time consuming and expensive process, which often discourages wide area mapping activities. In this paper we present a new geomorphological historical landslide inventory map for a 1,460 km² area in the Daunia Apennines, the northern-western sector of the Apulia (Puglia) region, in Southern Italy. The inventory contains 17,437 landslides classified according to relative age, type of movement and estimated depth. Landslides were mapped according to rigorous and reproducible criteria applied by two teams of expert photo interpreters to two sets of stereoscopic aerial photographs taken in 1954/55 and 2003. In this paper we present an updated and homogeneous earthquake data set for Italy compiled by joining the Italian Macroseismic Database DBMI15 and the Engineering Strong-Motion (ESM) accelerometric data bank. The database has been compiled through an extensive procedure of selection and revision based on two main steps: 1) the removal of several earthquakes in DBMI15 because the data source has been considered to be largely unreliable and 2) the extraction of all the localities reporting intensity data which are located within 3 km from the accelerograph stations that recorded the data. The final data set includes 323 recordings from 65 earthquakes and 227 stations in the time span 1972-2016. The events are characterized by magnitudes in the range 4.0-6.9 and depths in the range 0.3-45.0 km. Here, we illustrate the data collection and the properties of the database in terms of recording, event and station distributions as well as Mercalli-Cancani-Sieberg (MCS) macroseismic intensity points. Furthermore, we discuss the most relevant features of engineering interest showing several statistics with reference to the most significant metadata (such as moment magnitude, several distance metrics, style of faulting etc).
