Many cities suffer overpopulation and the presence of obsolete underutilised areas which sometimes are located in central city areas. Urban regeneration is an effective tool to “breathe life” into such spaces. Urban regeneration has become common in the last few decades; there are many successful cases of implemented or planned urban regeneration worldwide. The Authors of this paper study such best practices in order to identify current architectural trends in urban regeneration, which contribute to the creation of more green, resilient, sustainable, safe, accessible urban areas. The case studies shown in this article are the winning projects of the C40 Reinventing Cities competition, which is a global competition that was established to accelerate the development of decarbonised and resilient urban regeneration across the globe. This paper contributes to the knowledge through highlighting five architectural trends which are the most common and crucial for facilitating positive urban regeneration processes.

Residential buildings in Russia consume electricity, natural gas, thermal energy for home and water heating, as well as other resources from external suppliers. Such resource consumption results in direct and indirect carbon dioxide emissions that affect the environment. Sustainable development requires the humanity to fit the environmental carrying capacity, and measures against climate change require carbon emissions to reduce. This paper compares carbon footprint reduction target declared by UNCC Conference 2015 and the Paris Agreement, as well as targets offered by other environmental institutions, to carbon emissions arising from existing Russian building standards and social norms application, and actual data. Building standards set the amount of heat per square meter to be delivered to apartment buildings depending on its geographic location, while social norms set a minimal premises area per resident. Also social standards for electricity and natural gas consumption per person exist. Russian Government decrees regulate utility services parameters for apartment and residential buildings, setting hot water temperature and consumption standards per resident and for common household needs. These norms and standards permit the minimal carbon dioxide emissions per year per resident to assess and compare to the carbon footprint reduction target. This paper demonstrates that existing Russian building standards and norms result in carbon emissions per capita significantly exceeding the targets, and recommends standards and norms update to reduce carbon footprint, admitting at the same time that such update is only a step towards the Paris Agreement targets.

Given the extensive number of empirical studies pertaining to this subject, a bibliometric study was required to create an overview of the literature on green technology and environmental sustainability. The objective of the study is to identify the most cited research journals. Six research questions were developed to study the number of publications per year, the number of citations per article, the country-wise contribution, etc. Using a bibliometric analysis, this study analyses and summarises the related literature from 1997–2023. The paper provides an all-around intellectual structure for the literature. It was found out that the research paper by Sharifi et al. (2020), entitled “The COVID-19 pandemic: Impacts on cities and major lessons for urban planning, design, and management”, published in the journal "The Science of the Total Environment," was most cited journal. China contributed the most as far as green technology and environmental sustainability are concerned. It was also found out that most of the papers were published in 2020.

With the rapid development of social economy, the development and utilization of water resources is increasing, which leads to the increasing importance of ecological water demand in wetland protection. The study of lake ecological water demand can provide theoretical basis for improving the distribution of water resources and ecosystem balance in lake wetland and establish a solid theoretical basis for the sustainable development of lake wetland ecosystem. Based on the analysis and summary of the relevant literature on wetland ecological water demand, this paper expounded the connotation of lake ecological water demandand summarized the calculation method of ecological water demand of lake type wetland in China. In addition,this paper pointed out that the research focus of lake ecological water demand mainly included the application of hydrologicalhydrodynamic- water quality and the research of water demand based on ecological protection target hydrology demand.

The paper is a semiotic study of Abidah El-Khalieqy’s novel Geni Jora. Semiotics is definedwith reference to the study of signs and sign systems, and “signs” concern any things that stand for other things. The semiotic analysis used in this paper was adopted from Chandler’s framework where he combines the Saussurean and Peircean concepts of signs and modes of relationship. The result of the semiotic reading of Geni Jora is that Jora, the main character of the novel, is a symbol, representingAbidah’s resistance to gender injustice within Muslim circle in particular and in Indonesia in general. The novel symbolizes Abidah’s concern about Indonesian (Muslim) women, who suffer from discrimination, injustice, abuse, and violence due to the stronghold of patriarchy. It also signifies her insistence, urging the people of Indonesia to seriously take actions to bring about gender equality and to provide women’s quality education, without which Indonesia would not be able to make sustainable community and development happen.

The paper focuses on the effectiveness of legislation regulating the security of storage, processing, and transfer of personal data. As the main thesis, we assume that it is necessary to give a legal definition of the concept of personal data to build specific legal norms of a protective nature. We describe, examine, and evaluate the provisions of international regulatory legal acts that define the concept mentioned above and correlate with Russian legislation provisions. We thoroughly consider the opinions of scientists on the issue with the justification of our assessments and judgments. The results of the study can be considered recommendations on understanding the definition of personal data, as well as proposals for their protection and development of the system of legal regulation of personal data turnover in various jurisdictions.

The article is devoted to the study of the problem of reorganization of industrial zones within the existing residential development. Four redevelopment projects have been studied in the article and the main approaches in this topic have been highlighted. The study of foreign and domestic experience in the reorganization of industrial zones shows that the application of basic principles plays an important role in the formation of a comfortable urban environment. Innovativeness, sustainable development, preservation of historical heritage, consideration of the needs of society and the development of social and economic infrastructure significantly contribute to this goal. The work included a review of scientific and research papers, articles, studied the experience of cities in Russia and the world, and analyzed the methods, approaches and results of projects. As a result of the work done, the basic principles of reorganizing industrial zones into comfortable urban environments were identified.

Raising awareness through Virtual Experiencing (RAVE) and a Cross-Cultural Perspective on Raising Awareness through Virtual Experiencing (C-RAVE) approaches are used in this article to promote awareness of concerns relating to linguistic stereotyping. Virtual Reality (VR) technology has completely changed several facets of modern life, including instruction, training and entertainment. We give a summary of the techniques employed to increase awareness of how stereotypes might distort our vision. The patterns of the answers provided by the participants demonstrate that the reported gender of the speaker in addition to the accent (native vs. non-native), has an impact on the respondents' assessments of performance. Additionally, we were able to show that the discussions and ideas produced by these response patterns led to a rise in self-awareness of language and stereotyping-related problems. The paper gives a general description of RAVE and examines how it may improve education, create empathy and foster good social change. Focus on a critique of our methodologies and place our work within a larger debate of strategies and efforts for how educational institutions might actively contribute to combating (language) discrimination and bias in many ways. The relevance of Raising Awareness by Virtual Reality and Cross-Cultural Raising of Awareness by Virtual Reality in fostering inclusion and understanding in a society that is becoming more sustainable globally connected is highlighted in the article’s conclusion.

Modern cities are centers of economic, social, cultural and intellectual life, which makes it crucially important to ensure proper conditions for their sustainable development. The paper is intended to elaborate on some spatial aspects of the sustainable development of million cities in Russia. The study used official statistics, as well as data from the information and analytical system of urban development VEB.RF. The research method consists in comparing the values of indicators characterizing cities’ spatial particularities with each other and with the national average. The article analyzes accessibility of objects of interest for the population (social infrastructure facilities, leisure centers). It reveals that million cities differ in these parameters quite significantly and can be categorized into three groups. The most numerous group (8 cities) is one embracing cities with liveability above the national average; in four cities, the liveability level is equivalent to the all-Russia average; and two millionplus cities are lagging behind the others. The research also indicates the factors defining the accessibility of objects of interest for city inhabitants: its area, population density, saturation of urban space with such objects and the specificities of their localization, uniqueness of urban planning, and the quality of the urban environment.

Nowadays, Morocco keeps showing several efforts as part of sustainable development to introduce environmental management measures within companies, no matter what their size or activity field. However, studies prove the impact of these measures on psychosocial risk management which are still limited or inexistent. This paper explores the impact of poor environmental management as a factor affecting health and psychosocial well-being at work. The question is: How can environmental practices contribute to reducing psychosocial risks in the workplace? To answer this question, an experiment including the distribution of a questionnaire was carried out, addressed to 150 employees working in industrial companies in the Larache’s region, Morocco. The collected responses show that the psychosocial health of more than ninety percent of those surveyed is directly impacted by living conditions at work. These results indicate that responsible environmental management practices are necessary to improve employee well-being and reduce psychosocial risks in organisations.

Green logistics has become an integral part of economic, political and social debates in all areas of activity. The environment has become a major priority for all organizations, whether public or private, and has prompted them to go beyond the two predominant management concepts (competitiveness and performance), and revolutionize their management methods to become more agile and, above all, more sustainable in the face of various changes, particularly climate change. In fact, it’s all about “doing better with less” impacts to respect the environment. Facing this situation, the Moroccan public university could not stay back as an active part of the business ecosystem. It also had to adopt Green Logistics, which had become an urgent imperative in order to ensure its own performance at national and international level. This paper is an exploratory study that attempts to analyze the current situation of the Moroccan public university by answering the following questions: What are the motivations behind Green Logistics at Moroccan public universities? What are its practices and areas of application? Are there any obstacles, and if so, what are they? And what are the university’s future prospects?

This approach enables achieving and sustaining optimal customer satisfaction, leading to the establishment of customer loyalty It is crucial to examine how Industry 4.0 affects the transformation of the banking industry. It is necessary to prioritize finding a balance between competition, innovation, security, and customer satisfaction to ensure sustainable development. This paper aims to explore the implementation of Industry 4.0 technologies in the banking system and increase awareness among researchers and bank managers about these new technologies and the concept of sustainability. Through an analysis of relevant literature, we hope to provide valuable insights. In this regard, it presents a framework studying the critical components for achieving banking 4.0

As environmental consciousness is growing, organizations are required to implement environmental-friendly practices, and to develop sustainable strategies not just for the health of the environment but also for sustaining the industry for the future. Today consumers value organizations that go green and are willing to pay a price premium for sustainable goods. Then, it is an incumbent need for the industry to integrate sustain ability concepts into its traditional supply chain management. The industry is a driving force behind sustainable development, where industry 4.0 is set to be a critical enabler. Nevertheless, to foster sustainable development of the industry, there is a need for applying uniform standards in environmental management to reduce the consumption of renewable resources and develop productive ways of reusing and recycling the used/waste resources. This paper, theoretical by nature, explores the impact of Green Supply Chain Practices (GSCP) on accelerating industry-related targets of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 9 on building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation. Based on the literature review, conceptual interlinkages between the targets of SDG 9 and those SDGs that address issues of social, economic, and environmental goals, are studied in the context of GSCP. This work provides an understanding of the impact of green practices on the achievement of the SDGs.

The relevant literature on environmental strategy has carried out extensive research on the internal and external factors that affect the sustainable development of enterprises, but some important horizontal factors, such as the influence from peers, are ignored. Based on benchmarking theory and expectation theory, this paper makes an empirical analysis on the panel data of Listed Companies in 24 industries in China from 2001 to 2019. The results show that the number of Listed Companies in the industry has a positive impact on the passive and active environmental strategies of the whole industry. The outstanding performance of peers promotes the whole industry to actively implement the active environmental strategy and reduce the passive environmental strategy. At the same time, the longer the listing time of the listed companies, the more able the companies to strengthen the impact of the number of listed companies on the implementation of active or passive environmental strategy in the whole industry, and the smaller the relative scale, the more able the companies to strengthen the impact of performance on the implementation of active environmental strategy in the whole industry.

More recently, sustainability has become a source of inspiration and innovation and most organizations start redesigning their business models based on sustainability concepts. Sustainable practices have become critical issues for industrial engineering, dealing with technological and management principles. Engineering is a major driver of sustainable development by connecting social needs and environmental priorities with appropriate technologies and management practices. According to UNESCO sustainable engineering is about designing and operating daily systems so that the energy and resources they use are sustainable that is, they are used at a rate that safeguards the availability of natural resources for future needs. The literature on the subject is mostly dedicated to technical and design aspects of engineering principles integrating sustainability concepts. Works on how sustainable engineering principles impact sustainable value creation are scarce. Exploring the concepts and the main principles of sustainable value and sustainable engineering, this paper shed light on supporting organizations operationalizing the transition toward business models which are environmentally, socially, and financially sustainable. This work aims to provide a conceptual framework setting out how sustainable engineering principles can provide a thinking guide to connect corporate sustainable value creation drivers and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Management science (MS) uses a variety of scientific researchbased principles and analytical methods, such as mathematical modeling and data analysis, to make decisions and solve complex problems, and has strong connections to management, data, economics, engineering, and other fields. The scientific MS community has grown significantly over the past few decades, particularly in sustainable development, decision support systems, and data science. This paper gives a brief introduction to Volume I of the seventeenth ICMSEM proceedings. First, the key MS research areas are reviewed and the reasons given as to why sustainable development, decision support systems, and data science have been hotspots. Then, the literature in the primary study areas in the seventeenth ICMSEM proceedings Volume I is summarized. Finally, CiteSpace is employed to analyze future MS developments. ICMSEM continues to provide a valuable forum for academic exchanges and communication to promote future innovation in management science and engineering management (MSEM).

In recent years, the demand for reliable and sustainable power generation in rural areas has increased due to the lack of access to traditional power grids and the need to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. Renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, and biomass have emerged as viable options for meeting the energy needs of rural communities. This paper proposes a Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) framework for comparing different renewable energy sources for power generation in rural areas. The MCDA framework takes into account multiple criteria such as economic feasibility, environmental impact, and technical feasibility to provide a comprehensive analysis of the different renewable energy sources. The proposed MCDA framework is applied to compare four renewable energy sources: solar power, wind power, hydro power, and biomass power. The results of the MCDA analysis are presented and discussed, and recommendations are provided for the selection of the most suitable renewable energy source for power generation in rural areas.

Investment in human capital, along with natural resource management, is an important indicator of sustainable development. One of the areas of such investments is the creation of artificial intelligence systems that allow for the classification of texts. This paper analyzes the use of artificial intelligence systems for stylometric text analysis. On the basis of the algorithm of the convolutional artificial immune system, a system for stylometric analysis of texts was developed and implemented in software. In order to determine the possibility of using this system to determine the authorship of literary works, it was trained and tested. For this, the works of two authors were chosen: Leo Tolstoy and Fyodor Kryukov. This system demonstrated a high quality of text classification and a good speed of work and learning. So, to test the performance of the system, 11 works by Leo Tolstoy and 12 works by Fedor Kryukov were taken that were not used to train the system. All works of these authors were classified correctly. It should be noted that the artificial immune system algorithm can also be successfully used in other tasks requiring text classification.

The world is currently marked by increasing pressure on natural resources and a big demand for energy, water, and food. Energy, Water, and food are strongly interlinked, and the choices made in one area often have consequences on the others. These interconnections intensify and will be more complex as the demand for resources increases with climate change, population growth, changing consumption patterns, and a linear economy model of ‘take-make-dispose’. however, a circular economy (CE) ensures that economic growth must not necessarily lead to more resource consumption. This paper aims to discuss the circular economy transition with a focus on understanding the interdependencies and complexities of system Climate-Water, Energy, and food security in Morocco. This work first outlines the problem of water resources management in Morocco and determined the areas of intersection between the food-energy-water sectors. It also attempts to explain why water circularity is part of the key factors to accelerate the transition from a linear economy to a circular economy to meet the Sustainable Development Goals, and how circularity can be implemented in the water sector. Finally, it studies two circular alternative solutions (water-saving - drip irrigation, and renewable energy) that Morocco uses to face climate change-induced water scarcity.

Global warming has had an important impact on China’s agricultural production, especially the intensified uneven distribution of water and heat resources and the increased frequency of extreme weather, resulting in a significant increase in the risk of agricultural production. Alleviating a series of negative effects of climate warming on agricultural production has always been the focus of governments and scholars, and it is also the basis of realizing agricultural sustainable development. This paper summarizes the impact of climate warming on China’s agricultural production from five aspects: agricultural planting system and structural layout, agricultural diseases and pests, agricultural management, agricultural ecosystem and agricultural production potential. Based on the above specific impacts, the urgent problems faced by China's agricultural production are pointed out, and the countermeasures to reduce the impact of climate warming are put forward from the aspects of policy, technology, research and cooperation, in order to provide references for other governments to deal with the negative impact of global warming, and promote the sustainable development of agriculture.

As a new type of green building, prefabricated building is of great significance to sustainable development. In order to promote the innovation of prefabricated construction enterprises more smoothly, this paper obtains the data of 30 enterprises by issuing questionnaires and collecting public annual reports, and then uses the system dynamics model to simulate. The conclusions are as follows: technological innovation leads the development of enterprises. Market innovation and management innovation act on the growth period, organizational innovation act on the maturity period, and finally enters the period of continuous innovation to carry out collaborative innovation. Government support can effectively promote the development of prefabricated buildings. This study present suggestions for the innovation development of prefabricated construction enterprises, and provides reference for the sustainable development of national ecology and construction industry enterprise innovation.

Our paper focuses on factors that help to successfully and efficiently manage urban infrastructure in large cities and centres using Big Data solutions. We explain the key points about urban Big Data approaches, including infrastructure that supports urban governance, public services and economic and industrial development, taking into account and supporting the central role of urban Big Data in urban intelligence with particular emphasis on the smart cities. Moreover, we want to add a third dimension to social urban data analysis by assessing the use of social, spatial, and temporal data for key issues to understand how it can influence human behaviour across time and space. Our results might have important implications for urban planners and policy-makers and contribute to the mitigating the regional inequalities as well as to improving urban infrastructure and making the cities of the future happier and healthier places for all their citizens.

This research aims to present a global vision on corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the context of a country in transition such as Morocco, CSR is defined as a set of economic practices characterized by transparency, ethical transactions, openness to the outside world and respect for employees and society. while placing great importance on the environment. In the context of climate change and the collapse of biodiversity, corporate social responsibility brings sustainable value to society and shareholders. For this article, we relied on an analytical approach, collecting, analysing, and discussing academic papers relating to the subject matter, and more specifically focussing on a few cases in Morocco. Among the results we have achieved, is the identification of some of the challenges facing the application of corporate social responsibility in Morocco.

The current situation in the field of information support for solving the problem of sustainable development of regions, using the example and in the appendix to the “meta-knowledge” of Geoecology is examined in the paper. The purpose of the research is to develop “human-machine” systems for making optimal management decisions (strategic management of the processes of sustainable development of territories at the regional level). The object of research is active, including “conservative” and “dissipative”, complex organized systems of the class “nature-society”. The starting points of the methodology and management theory are the following concepts: the unified Field Theory (the end of the XX century), the theory new “scientific revolutions” (T. Kuhn, 1962), the “Concept of sustainable development” of regions (UN, 1993) and the “new theory of entropy” (A. N. Panchenkov, 1999). The leading scientific methods: “noosphere” theory (E. Le Roy and P. T. Chardin, 1927; Vernadsky V. I., 1933) and the approach of “geosystem” (F. Capra, 1991). The results of the research and their significance for the theory and practice of strategic management of territories at the global, regional and local levels of the planet’s organization lead to the conclusion that it is necessary to move from differentiation of all available knowledge about Nature and Society (“mechanistic” thinking; object-oriented approach) to their full integration (“noospheric” thinking; normative approach). In the future, this will allow us to begin practical implementation of the development of Russia and the world based on the strategy and Concept of “noocracy”.

Non-renewable fossils are the main source of energy in modern conditions. This method of production and consumption of energy acts as one of the main anthropogenic factors that negatively impact the environment. Besides, limited energy reserves do not guarantee the sustainable development of world energy in the long term. The way out of this situation is using renewable energy sources (RES). Renewable energy sources are one of the promising and innovative areas of energy development. These energy sources allow moving to a new high-quality level of power supply and heat supply of the country and significantly improving the ecological state of settlements. The Russian Federation has all conditions for the implementation of such innovative projects aimed at using renewable energy sources. One of such promising projects is solar energy. The perspective of using solar energy is an almost inexhaustible resource, available everywhere, and also has another advantage high environmental safety. Besides, solar energy is characterized by low indicators in terms of capital and operating costs, a lower cost of electricity compared to traditional energy as well. In this study, the perspectives for the development of solar energy in the Russian Federation are identified. The existing solar capacities in Russia are analyzed, the main developments of solar energy in the country are determined. A model for assessing the economic efficiency of floating power plants is proposed in this paper. These plants make it possible to provide electricity to entire settlements. Having been the study, conclusions are drawn about the prospects of using such power plants as sources of cheap energy and environmental compatibility.

Sustainable development is zeitgeist of our age. It is one kind of development that in this trajectory humanity can create a stable and developed socio-economic foundations, conserve environment and therefore able to continue for a long time. Using indicators is one of the best ways to monitor and measure the progress toward sustainable development. In this paper we have proposed the way to create indicators for measuring provincial sustainable development index in Vietnam. We firstly made a framework of elements for economic, social and environmental component and compiled a list of indicators of 20 national and international agencies in the world. We then applied the SMART framework (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-related) to choose indicators which will be relevant for Vietnam and put them back to the elements. We then have 39 relevant indicators with 12 indicators for economy, 17 indicators for social and 10 indicators for environmental component. Finally, we have established the way to determine the worst and best value for each indicator from available data for countries in the world.

The paper covers the particularities of development of Don chromite field and improvement of applied technologies of underground mining using uncontrolled caving. The weakest point of the technology of uncontrolled caving and any other similar structures is mining operations under the caved mass that considerably affects the stability of mine workings and their safety during the whole period of stoping. This issue is one of the most important and urgent, especially at the transition of mining operations to deeper levels where technological particularities of the minefield are getting more complicated. Therefore, the Project Development and Substantiation of Parameters of Combined Geotechnology for Safe and Sustainable Development of Chromite Mineral Resource Mining for underground mining will be a new technological solution ensuring the replacement of exhausted mineral resources in the Republic of Kazakhstan in the conditions of transition of mining operations to deeper levels. Further development at the combined and sequential underground mining operations using the system of uncontrolled caving and the system of horizontal layers with stowing is essential.
