Women's underrepresentation in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) is a problem in most countries today. This is influenced by the absence or inadequacy of the work environment provided by employers, which is seen to have constrained women's ability to survive STEM challenges and, as a result, achieve career success in the STEM field. Thus, the goal of this study was to identify the type of work environment that women require in order to join and sustain in STEM. To that end, a questionnaire was distributed to women from three levels of STEM positions in Malaysia, namely junior, middle (senior), and senior (head) in the private and public sectors. Through descriptive analysis, the findings show convenience, good relationship with colleagues, equal opportunities with men in decision making, mentor role and role model, good leader role and institutional support, opportunities for career development, financial and non - financial appreciation as well as family support is seen as one of the factor work environments required for women to join and sustain in the STEM field. Consequently, employers in both the public and private sectors must consider all of these factors when creating an inclusive and better work environment in order to encourage and increase the participation rate of women in STEM fields.
