Arytenoid lateralization surgery is usually done on the left side because most surgeons are right-handed, so the left side is normally easier to operate.

The article offers information on the canine laryngeal paralysis. It informs that laryngeal paralysis occurs due to the loss of function in the paired crico-arytenoideus dorsalis (CAD) muscles. It states that laryngeal paralysis in dogs can be diagnosed with the help of a complete blood count, electrocardiography and thoracic radiography. It further tells that many dogs suffering from laryngeal paralysis are euthyroid.
