A study conducted by researchers at Islamic Azad University in Guilan, Iran, has explored the use of diclofenac sodium and gentamicin co-encapsulated PLGA nanoparticles (DS-GEN-PLGA NPs) to combat biofilm formation in Pseudomonas aeruginosa. A study conducted by researchers at the University of Tehran in Iran has explored the use of pH-sensitive polyvinyl alcohol-methyl methacrylate (PVA-PMMA) copolymer nanoparticles for cancer therapy. The researchers synthesized the nanoparticles and loaded them with the chemotherapy drug methotrexate (MTX). The nanoparticles were found to swell in acidic environments and release significant amounts of MTX. The study validates the feasibility of using polyethylene glycol (PEG)/polycaprolctone (PCL) nanofibers drug delivery systems as an extended time release medium for metformin and glibenclamide co-delivery. A new drug release model is presented and its parameters indicate the possibility of using drug for at least T-60 = 60 h with average and sustained release rate of 5.37 mu g drug/g(solid) h. The system traps as little as 10% of loaded metformin and 23% of loaded glibenclamide.
