Researchers at Capital Medical University in Beijing, China have developed a novel biosensor for the rapid and accurate detection of healthcare-associated infection (HAI)-related bacteria. The biosensor utilizes an antimicrobial peptide called cecropin 1 (CP1) immobilized on the surface of Fe3O4@Au nanoparticles to capture Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Escherichia coli O157:H7 simultaneously. A recent study conducted by researchers at Ghent University in Belgium has explored the potential of engineered phage lysins as antimicrobial compounds targeting Gram-negative bacteria. The study focused on lysin 1D10, which demonstrated a distinct mode of action by causing local cell wall bulging at the septum rather than cell-wide lysis.
