The article presents information on a study which investigated the origin and influence of ranaviral diseases in wild edible frogs Pelophylax kl. esculentus in Denmark. A brief overview is given about the recent listing of ranavirus infection and Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis (Bd) in amphibians by the World Organisation for Animal Health. It details the materials and methodologies used in the study which include a survey of amphibian mortality, laboratory examination, real-time polymerase chain reaction for Bd, and immunofluorescent antibody test. It also reveals that ranavirus outbreak risk is not limited to amphibians.
