Background: Antiretroviral adherence is vital to the successful long-term rollout of the antiretroviral therapy program in South Africa. At present, there are no studies that look at the effects of disability on antiretroviral adherence. Methods: Drawing on the baseline data from an existing cohort of 1042 people on antiretrovirals in a public healthcare setting in KwaZulu-Natal, the paper investigated a variety of existing covariates relating to antiretroviral adherence, together with functional limitations, depressive symptoms, and health symptoms. Disability was defined according to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health framework and measured using the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule. Results: In a proportional odds logistic regression functional limitations, depressive symptoms, health symptoms and gender emerged as significant associated with decreased adherence to antiretrovirals (Odds ratio [95% confidence interval]: 1.86 [1.31, 2.66], 1.61 [1.02, 2.55], 2.33 [1.47, 3.69], and 1.65 [1.16, 2.35], respectively). This was found for both severe and milder forms of functional limitations/disability. Conclusion: The paper highlights the need to better understand the role of these limitations in achieving adequate adherence to antiretrovirals and viral suppression. It also calls for investigations into integrated mitigating services such as integrating rehabilitation into routine human immunodeficiency virus care. This study provides a starting point to understand the association between functional limitations and challenges in maintaining adherence to antiretroviral therapy. To evaluate the reliability, internal consistency, and construct validity of the Swedish versions of PROMIS-29 and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Dyspnea (FACIT-Dyspnea) instruments in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). In a cross-sectional study, consecutive SSc patients completed a paper-based survey. Internal consistency was assessed using Cronbach's alpha. Test–retest reliability was tested employing weighted Kappa (Kw) and intra-class correlation coefficient (ICC). Construct validity was evaluated by hypotheses testing using RAND-36, MRC Dyspnea score, Scleroderma Health Assessment Questionnaire (SHAQ) and clinical measurements. Forty-nine patients (86% female; 73% limited cutaneous SSc) completed the survey. The mean disease duration was 11 years and mean SHAQ was 0.5. Internal consistency and test–retest reliability were good with the exception of PROMIS-29 anxiety. PROMIS-29, FACIT-Dyspnea, and Functional limitation showed strong correlations to corresponding RAND-36 domains (|rs|=0.67 to −0.85). Relevant PROMIS-29 domains, FACIT-Dyspnea and Functional limitation correlated strongly to SHAQ and VAS overall disease severity (|rs|=0.60 to −0.75). Ceiling effects (>15%) were found in six PROMIS-29 domains and in both FACIT-Dyspnea and Functional limitations. Four (4/5) hypotheses were confirmed. PROMIS-29 and FACIT-Dyspnea meet the requirements for reliability and have adequate construct validity in Swedish patients with SSc. PROMIS-29v2 and Functional Assessment of Chronic Illness Therapy-Dyspnea (FACIT-Dyspnea) Index are patient outcome measures that gain increasing interest for the evaluation of patient with rheumatologic diseases. To investigate determinants of willingness to adopt telerehabilitation, willingness of technology use, core affect regarding using telerehabilitation, and digital competencies in rehabilitation professionals in Austria and Germany before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional paper-based and online survey was conducted before and during COVID-19, respectively, with three cohorts of rehabilitation professionals. Outcomes were the willingness to adopt telerehabilitation evaluated using the extended Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology; willingness of technology use using the short scale for assessing the willingness of technology use; digital competencies and core affect using the Digital Competence Framework and semantic differential, respectively. Multivariate ordinal regression analysis was performed to determine predictors. Included were 603 rehabilitation professionals. Analysis revealed differences between Austria and Germany and before and during the pandemic for most outcomes. German residency, the pandemic, and a higher educational level were most important predictors of higher willingness to adopt telerehabilitation, willingness of technology use, digital competencies, and positive core affect. The pandemic increased most aspects of willingness to adopt telerehabilitation, willingness of technology use, digital competencies, and positive core affect. Results confirm that rehabilitation professionals with higher degrees are more prone to adopt innovations in healthcare.Registration: German Clinical Trials Register (DRKS00021464) The willingness to adopt telerehabilitation is associated with external factors increasing the need for alternative rehabilitation delivery, such as COVID-19, and with financial facilitators, such as reimbursement. As the willingness to adopt telerehabilitation is higher among speech and language therapists and dietitians, efforts are necessary to enhance its use in physiotherapists and occupational therapists. This paper aims to analyze the levels and trajectories of physical rehabilitation needs across five resource-poor world regions, against global and key country-specific benchmarks. This comparative, secondary cross-region analysis uses data from the Global Burden of Diseases study 2017 [1990–2017], specifically varied metrics of the Years Lived with Disability (YLD) measure from the health conditions likely benefiting from physical rehabilitation. All the resource-poor world regions had significant increases (p < 0.01) in the absolute, relative, and percentage of physical rehabilitation needs [1990–2017]. Nonetheless, The Asia-Pacific region stood out with the greatest YLD Rates (i.e., per population size) in 2017, the greatest growth in YLD Rates since 1990 (38%), and an exponential growth in the rehabilitation-sensitive YLD Rates. The Asia-Pacific region also had the greatest portion of their YLDs coming from rehabilitation-sensitive conditions (72% in 2017), closely followed by the Latin America & Caribbean (67%). Nonetheless, in South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, we observed the greatest percent increases in the portion of physical rehabilitation needs among all YLDs, out of lower initial values. An overall growth but differential patterns were observed in the evolution of physical rehabilitation needs across the resource-poor world regions. Asia-Pacific and Latin America & Caribbean regions had over than two-thirds of their non-fatal health loss arising from conditions sensitive to physical rehabilitation, and important growths in rehabilitation need indicators have been observed also for South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa. The scale-up and strengthening of rehabilitation services and resources should be informed by needs-based data. Joubert Syndrome (JS) is a rare inherited neurodevelopmental disorder defined by a characteristic cerebellar and brainstem malformation (i.e. the molar tooth sign) and variable organ involvement. The aim of the present study was to describe functional limitations and disabilities in a large sample of adult patients with a diagnosis of JS. We administered the International Classification of Functioning (ICF) checklist to thirty-six adult Italian patients with JS or their caregivers through telephone calls. None-to-mild impairment was documented for basic cognitive and mental functions, whereas severe deficit emerged for higher-order skills and language. A mismatch between individuals' capacity for daily activity and social participation and the actual performance in these fields emerged, suggesting that adults with JS may greatly benefit from external support from the caring environment. Indeed, specific facilitators were highlighted, including communication technologies as well as family members, healthcare professionals and peers support. Mild-to-severe barriers have been identified by adult patients with JS in the domains of services, systems and policies. These findings highlight challenges and barriers for adults with JS in areas of daily functioning that may be improved by investing in rehabilitation care models that embed social support programs and policies into clinical interventions. Limb salvage surgery is a surgical procedure for tumour resection in bone and soft-tissue cancers. Guidelines aim to preserve as much function and tissue of the limb as possible. Surgical outcome data is routinely available as part of surgical reporting processes. What is less known are important non-oncological outcomes throughout recovery from both clinical and patient perspectives. The objective of this review was to explore non-oncological outcomes in patients diagnosed with sarcoma around the knee following limb salvage surgery. A scoping review methodology was used, and results analysed using CASP checklists. Thirteen studies were included and following appraisal and synthesis, three themes emerged as providing important measures intrinsic to successful patient recovery: (1) physical function, (2) quality of life and, (3) gait and knee goniometry. Specifically, patients develop range of motion complications that alter gait patterns and patients often limit their post-operative participation in sport and leisure activities. This study has shown the importance of exploring confounding factors, adopting a holistic view of patient recovery beyond surgical outcomes, proposing evidence-based guidance to support and inform healthcare providers with clinical decision-making. This review highlights the paucity and lack of quality of research available, emphasising how under-represented this population is in the research literature. Patients having undergone LSS often have limited participation in sport and leisure activities. Patients can develop range of motion complications, such as flexion contracture or extension lag, which may affect the pattern of gait. Clinical consideration should be given to walking ability and gait patterns during the rehabilitation phase to prevent poor functional outcomes during recovery. To systematically review the evidence for effectiveness of rehabilitation interventions in people who are visually impaired, living in low- and middle-income countries. Fifteen databases and the grey literature were searched up until February 2020; papers were identified according to eligibility criteria, and assessed for risk of bias. Eligible studies were controlled trials (randomised or non-randomised) of rehabilitation interventions for blind or visually impaired adults or children from low- and middle-income countries. Possible outcomes included visual acuity, activities of daily living, safety, quality of life and psychological status. Fifteen eligible studies were identified from India, Turkey, Nigeria, Croatia and Iran. Six studies were randomised, seven were non-randomised trials, and in two the method of allocation was not clear. Participants were adults, children and both adults and children. Seven studies were small (n ≤ 65) and examined the effect of training programmes. Remaining studies compared the effect of low vision aids, economic rehabilitation, goalball, rehabilitation compliance and service delivery methods, including one large four-arm randomised trial (n = 436). Studies measured a variety of outcomes, and mostly showed a positive effect of interventions for pre- and post-intervention assessment, although between intervention group comparisons were often inconclusive. Overall, only four studies had a low risk of bias. A lack of high-quality evidence for rehabilitation interventions is a barrier to provision of low vision services in low- and middle-income countries. Future research should focus on establishing effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of devices and models of vision rehabilitation appropriate for low-resource settings. Many children with disabilities in low- and middle-income countries do not attend school and one-third are out of school. In order to ensure that education is for all including children with disabilities, research is needed on barriers to schooling to identify targets for intervention. The study will examine the determinants of school achievement among persons with and without disabilities as well as among each type of impairment. The study will utilize data from a recent national, representative household survey on living conditions among persons with and without disabilities. The individual level data used in this article comprise 2123 persons with and 2000 persons without disabilities. The results show that an alarmingly high proportion of persons in Nepal have not accessed formal education, with access being significantly lower among persons with disabilities. While the results may be influenced by the assumed relationship between disability and poverty, results from analyzing the cross-sectional data cannot be conclusive on the influence of disability vs. poverty in determining differences in access and school attainments. Increased environmental barriers, higher age, rural location, and increased levels of disability were found to be associated with lower educational achievement. Pronounced differences in access to education were found between impairment types, with individuals with physical impairments achieving the highest level and individuals with multiple impairments, hearing and mental impairments achieving lowest. To explore footwear characteristics and foot problems in community dwelling people with stroke as most research to date focused on the general elderly population. Thirty people with mild to moderate stroke (nine men, mean age 68, mean time since onset 67 months) attended a single session to assess footwear and foot problems using established podiatry foot (wear) and ankle assessments. Most participants wore slippers indoors (n = 17, 57%) and walking shoes outdoors (n = 11, 37%). Over half wore unsupportive ill-fitting shoes indoors and 47% of outdoor shoes fitted badly. All participants had foot problems (mean 6.5 (3.1), 95% CI: 5.4–7.7), including impaired single limb heel raise (93%), reduced range of movement (77%), sensation (47%), and muscle strength (43%). Many had foot-pain, hallux valgus (both 50%), or swollen feet (40%). Foot problems were associated with reduced balance confidence, activity, and community participation (all p < 0.05). A greater proportion of fallers (13/16) than non-fallers (4/14) reported foot problems (p = 0.029). Many community-dwelling people with stroke wore poorly fitting shoes; all had foot problems. Foot problems were linked to reduced mobility. Finding more effective pathways to support people with stroke to select supportive, well-fitting indoor and outdoor footwear is indicated. People with stroke often wear unsupportive ill-fitting shoes and experience foot problems. Assessment of foot problems and footwear advice should be considered during stroke rehabilitation particularly when interventions target fall prevention or improvements in balance and mobility. Parents of children with autism spectrum disorder often report poorer sleep compared to parents of typically developing children. When parents do not obtain enough quality sleep, functioning may be compromised placing the onus of care on already stressed parents. However, improving sleep duration may not improve sleep quality and is not always feasible. This study aimed to measure sleep quality in parents of children with autism spectrum disorder, determine if stress and children's sleep are associated with sleep quality and whether resources, appraisals, and coping moderate these relationships. Multivariable regression was used to determine the effects of stress and children's sleep problems on sleep quality and test modifying effects. Mean (SD) Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores was 8.81 (3.76), with 77.6% of parents scoring above the clinical cut-off. Mean (SD) Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire scores was 54.03 (8.32), with 96.3% of parents rating their child's sleep above the clinical cut-off. Children's sleep was the only significant predictor and none of the expected effect modifiers were significant. Children's sleep may be an important target to improve parent sleep quality but requires systematic assessment with interventional research. Both parents and their 4–10-year-old children with ASD experience high levels of sleep disturbances. Clinicians can start the conversation early with parents about their children's sleep by providing them with information to increase awareness and recognize healthy sleep habits in their children. Clinicians are important in the assessment, management, and evaluation of pediatric sleep problems, which may have significant spillover effects on parents of children with ASD. There is a need for more resources and training to be available to clinicians to assess children and their parents for sleep problems, which could extend beyond the assessment of sleep and consider parent's daytime functioning and mental health. The 2010 Lung Allocation Score (LAS) version considers the estimated survival benefit offered by lung transplantation (LTx) and uses 6-minute Walk Test (6MWT) distance as a dichotomous covariate of whether an individual can walk more than 150 ft or 45.7 m in 6 min. This study aimed to provide evidence that 6MWT gives no clinically meaningful information to be used in the current LAS for candidates to LTx with cystic fibrosis (CF). We collected data from 6MWTs performed since 2003 at our CF centre. A joint model was fitted to describe the effect of changes in walked distance on the hazard of LTx or death. Up to 2019, 552 6MWTs were performed on 163 individuals with CF. None of the individuals included walked for less than 45.7 m during the 6MWT. Based on the joint modelling, the association of walked distance with the hazard ratio (HR) of LTx or death was significant (HR 0.99, 95% Credible Interval [CI]: 0.99 to 1.00). When adopted dichotomously for LAS calculation, walked distance does not add any useful information about exercise capacity. Longitudinal trajectories of walked distance may provide complementary information about prognosis in individuals with CF. Dichotomized walked distance does not contribute to lung allocation score in candidates to lung transplantation with cystic fibrosis Changes in the longitudinal trajectory of walked distance can be clinically meaningful for prognostication. To understand the role of affected upper extremity (UE) self-efficacy for explaining daily-hand-use in individuals post-stroke. Specifically, to describe UE self-efficacy and to assess the associations between UE self-efficacy to UE motor and functional capacity and daily hand-use. This cross-sectional study included individuals post-stroke receiving rehabilitation with high UE functional capacity [Action Research Arm Test (ARAT) > 50]. The Rating of Everyday Arm-Use in the Community and Home (REACH) assessed perceived UE daily use and the Confidence in Arm and Hand Movement scale (CAHM) assessed UE self-efficacy. Functional capacity was assessed by the ARAT and the Fugl-Meyer-motor-assessment assessed motor impairment. Correlations between measures were assessed. Twenty-two individuals, aged 19–80, with high UE functional capacity [median (IQR) ARAT-56.5 (54–57)] and varying UE self-efficacy [median (IQR) CAHM-76.7 (58–84.4)], were included. UE self-efficacy was significantly correlated with the ARAT (rs = 0.53, p < 0.01) and REACH (rs = 0.51, p < 0.01) but ARAT was not significantly correlated with REACH. UE self-efficacy is correlated with perceived daily hand-use in individuals with high functional capacity. Further research and a deeper understanding of the clinical implications of UE self-efficacy are warranted. UE self-efficacy should perhaps be assessed during rehabilitation. Individuals with stroke with high affected upper extremity functional capacity do not necessarily use this hand for daily living. Upper extremity self-efficacy is correlated with perceived daily hand-use in individuals with high functional capacity; participants with higher upper extremity self-efficacy also reported more daily hand-use. Upper extremity self-efficacy seems to be upper extremity task or situation-specific. Employment status is considered a determinant of health, yet returning to work is frequently a challenge after lower limb amputation. No studies have documented if working after lower limb amputation is associated with functional recovery. The study's purpose was to examine the influence of full-time employment on functioning after lower limb amputation. Multisite, cross-sectional study of 49 people with dysvascular lower limb amputation. Outcomes of interest included performance-based measures, the Component Timed-Up-and-Go test, the 2-min walk test, and self-reported measures of prosthetic mobility and activity participation. Average participant age was 62.1 ± 9.7 years, 39% were female and 45% were persons of color. Results indicated that 80% of participants were not employed full-time. Accounting for age, people lacking full-time employment exhibited significantly poorer outcomes of mobility and activity participation. Per regression analyses, primary contributors to better prosthetic mobility were working full-time (R2 ranging from 0.06 to 0.24) and greater self-efficacy (R2 ranging from 0.32 to 0.75). This study offers novel evidence of associations between employment and performance-based mobility outcomes after dysvascular lower limb amputation. Further research is required to determine cause-effect directionalities. These results provide the foundation for future patient-centered research into how work affects outcomes after lower limb amputation. Lower limb amputation can pose barriers to employment and activity participation, potentially affecting the quality of life. This study found that the majority of people living with lower limb amputation due to dysvascular causes were not employed full-time and were exhibiting poorer prosthetic outcomes. Healthcare practitioners should consider the modifiable variable of employment when evaluating factors that may affect prosthetic mobility. The aims of this study were to describe how and why adults with CP living in the UK and Ireland accessed and used physiotherapy services; to describe the type of physiotherapy accessed and satisfaction with physiotherapy services and to examine the associations between relevant factors. A cross-sectional semi-structured online survey was employed. Participants were adults with CP aged 18 and above living in the UK and Ireland; able to complete an online questionnaire in English independently or with technical or physical assistance. Data were collected from April 2019 to February 2020. Participants (n = 162) were aged 18–74 years. The majority were female (75%) and lived in the UK (83%). Ninety percent of participants reported a need for physiotherapy but only 35% received physiotherapy services. The most common reason for visiting physiotherapy was mobility decline (62%). Satisfaction with the availability and quality of physiotherapy services were 21% and 27%, respectively. Adults with scoliosis and mobility decline were less likely to report that they received the physiotherapy they needed. Adults with CP did not receive the physiotherapy services that they perceived they needed. There is a need to develop physiotherapy services in collaboration with people living with CP. Adults with cerebral palsy (CP) needed physiotherapy services, but were not receiving the physiotherapy services that they perceive they needed. Adults were not satisfied with the availability or quality of physiotherapy services received. Adults with scoliosis and mobility decline were less likely to report that they received the physiotherapy they needed. To develop and explore underlying dimensions of the Self-Regulation Assessment (SeRA) and psychometric features of potential components. Further, to identify associations between the SeRA and disability-management self-efficacy, type of diagnosis, and type of rehabilitation. Based on a previously developed model of self-regulation, expert and patient opinions, and cognitive interviews, a list of 22 items on self-regulation (the SeRA) was constructed. The SeRA was included in a cross-sectional survey among a multi-diagnostic group of 563 former rehabilitation patients. Exploratory analyses were conducted. Respondents had a mean age of 56.5 (SD 12.7) years. The largest diagnostic groups were chronic pain disorder and brain injury. Four components were found within the SeRA, labelled as "insight into own health condition," "insight into own capabilities," "apply self-regulation," and "organization of help." Cronbach's alpha was high (total scale: 0.93, subscales: range 0.85–0.89). Only scores on the first subscale showed a ceiling effect. Subscale three showed the highest correlation with a self-efficacy measure. Small differences in SeRA total scores (range 71.6–78.1) were found between different diagnostic groups. The SeRA is a new self-regulation measure with four subscales. Further research is needed to establish the validity and reliability of the SeRA. The Self-Regulation Assessment (SeRA) was developed to provide a comprehensive measurement of self-regulation among rehabilitation populations. The SeRA could potentially be used to identify persons with self-regulation problems at the start of rehabilitation treatment and measure outcomes of rehabilitation for self-regulation. Purpose: The objectives of this study were to determine the effects of hearing disability on employment rates; examine how various factors are associated with employment; and identify workplace accommodations available to persons with hearing disabilities in Canada. Material and methods: A population-based analysis was done using the data collected through the 2017 Canadian Survey on Disability (CSD), representing 6 million (n = 6 246 640) Canadians. A subset of the complete dataset was created focusing on individuals with a hearing disability (n = 1 334 520). Weighted descriptive and multivariate logistic regression analyses were performed. Results: In 2017, the employment rates for working-age adults with a hearing disability were 55%. Excellent general health status (OR: 3.37; 95% CI: 2.29–4.96) and daily use of the internet (OR: 2.70; 95% CI: 1.78–4.10) had the highest positive effect on the employment rates. The top three needed but least available accommodations were communication aids (16%), technical aids (19%), and accessible parking/elevator (21%). Conclusion: Employment rates for persons with a hearing disability are lower than the general population in Canada. Employment outcomes are closely associated with one's general health and digital skills. Lack of certain workplace accommodations may disadvantage individuals with a hearing disability in their employment. People with severe hearing disabilities and those with additional disabilities may need additional and more rigorous services and supports to achieve competitive employment. It is important for the government to improve efforts toward inclusive education and develop strategies that promote digital literacy for job seekers with hearing disabilities. Officials concerned with implementing employment equity policies in Canada should focus on finding strategies that enable employees to have supportive conversations with their employers regarding disability disclosure and obtaining required accommodations. Pain and sensory disturbances are common side effects of breast cancer treatment. Differential somatosensory functioning may reflect distinct pathophysiological backgrounds and therapeutic needs. Aim was to examine whether questionnaires evaluating signs and symptoms related to somatosensory functioning correlate sufficiently with quantitative sensory testing (QST) in breast cancer survivors to warrant consideration for somatosensory profiling in clinical practice. One year after breast cancer surgery, 147 women underwent QST and completed following questionnaires: Douleur Neuropathique en 4 questions (DN4), Central Sensitization Inventory, Margolis Pain Diagram and Visual Analog Scales (VAS). Associations between the questionnaires and QST were evaluated using Spearman correlation coefficients (rs). Significant but weak (rs < 0.30) correlations were found between total DN4 score and QST results at the inner upper arm for detection of sharp stimuli (rs = 0.227), cold stimuli (rs = −0.186), and painful heat stimuli (rs = 0.179), as well as between QST evaluating conditioned pain modulation and the Margolis Pain Diagram on one hand (rs = 0.176) and minimum-maximum pain intensity differences (VAS) on the other (rs = −0.170). Questionnaires evaluating signs and symptoms related to somatosensory functioning are insufficient for somatosensory profiling. Although somatosensory profiling may be valuable in a mechanism-based management, more research on the most appropriate clinical tools is needed. Clinicians should be able to recognize that patients with persistent pain or sensory disturbances following breast cancer surgery may have a component of altered somatosensory processing as a significant contributor to their complaint in order to address it appropriately. Somatosensory profiling has yet to be implemented into clinical practice. No evidence-based recommendations can be made on the use of self-reported questionnaires to assess somatosensory processing in a breast cancer population based on the findings of this study. (1) To estimate the proportion of Dutch wheelchair users with spinal cord injury (SCI) who meet different SCI exercise guidelines; (2) to evaluate which demographic and lesion characteristics are associated with meeting these guidelines; (3) whether meeting these guidelines is associated with physical fitness and health. Based on the PASIPD questionnaire items, participants were allocated to meeting two SCI aerobic exercise guidelines, which differ in exercise load. Differences in personal, lesion, fitness, and health characteristics between groups were tested with a one-way ANOVA. Multiple regression analyses were performed to evaluate if meeting guidelines was associated with better fitness and health. Statistical significance was accepted at p < 0.05. Of the 358 included participants, 63.1% met at least one aerobic exercise guideline. Being female, older age, having tetraplegia, and lower educational level were associated with a lower likelihood to meet the aerobic exercise guidelines. Meeting aerobic exercise guidelines showed a positive association with all respiratory and exercise capacity parameters. Limited associations were found between meeting exercise guidelines and health. Meeting exercise guidelines was associated with better respiratory functions and exercise capacity with additional fitness and some body composition benefits in higher exercise activity levels. The purpose of the current study was to examine the unique contribution of personal and medical factors, objective and subjective cognition, and self-efficacy to the explained variance of quality of life (QoL) among survivors with self-reported cancer related cognitive impairment (CRCI). Seventy-three cancer survivors (non-central nervous system) with CRCI (mean age: 50.85 ± 10.82 years old, mean years post-treatment: 3 ± 2.7) participated in this cross-sectional study. QoL was assessed using the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy (FACT)–GP, while the cognitive function was assessed both objectively using tests of attentional control, speed of processing and sustained attention, and subjectively using the FACT-Cognition perceived cognitive impairments (FACTcog-PCI) subscale. Self-efficacy was assessed using the New General Self-Efficacy Scale (NGSE). A hierarchical multiple linear regression analysis revealed that sustained attention, perceived cognitive impairment and self-efficacy, accounted for 54% of the variance of QoL (R2 = 0.543, p < 0.000), each providing a unique contribution to the explained variance (15–20% each) after controlling for age and gender. Considering that these variables may be amenable to change, this model can serve as a conceptual framework for designing effective cognitive treatment options for CRCI. To translate the Craniofacial Pain and Disability Inventory into Turkish (CF-PDI/T) and to examine its reliability and validity. Cultural adaptation of CF-PDI/T was conducted according to international standards. The psychometric analyses included reliability by internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and test/retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC); structural validity was evaluated with exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA); and construct validity was investigated by matching (a priori hypotheses) the CF-PDI/T with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS), Headache Impact Test-6 (HIT-6), Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia for Temporomandibular Disorders-12 (TSK-TMD-12), Pain Catastrophizing Scale (PCS), Neck Disability Index (NDI), Fonseca Anamnestic Index (FAI), and Jaw Functional Limitation Scale-20 (JFLS-20). Correlations ranging from low to high were expected. CF-PDI/T showed excellent test–retest reliability (ICC = 0.971), excellent internal consistency (Cronbach's α = 0.985), and low to high correlation with NRS, HIT-6, TSK-TMD, PCS, NDI, FAI, and JFLS-20. Following EFA, three factors ("pain and psychosocial limitation", "jaw functional status", and "frequency comorbidities and disability") were extracted, accounting for 55.028% of the total variation. To investigate: (1) the interrater, and test–retest reliability of the figure-of-eight walk test (F8WT) in people with Parkinson's disease (PwPD); (2) the minimum detectable change in the F8WT times; (3) the concurrent and known-groups validity of the F8WT times; and (4) the cut-off times that best discriminate PwPD from healthy people and fallers from non-fallers with PD. This was a cross-sectional study. Forty-three PwPD and 34 healthy people were recruited. The F8WT was performed along with the timed up and go test, 10 m walk test, Berg Balance Scale, Activities-Specific Balance Confidence Scale, Unified Parkinson's disease Rating Scale, and Hoehn and Yahr Scale. The F8WT showed good interrater and test–retest reliability (ICC = 0.964–0.978 and ICC = 0.905–0.920, respectively). The MDC was 2.77 s. The F8WT was correlated with other outcome measures. Significant differences in the F8WT times were found between PwPD and healthy people and between fallers and non-fallers with PD (p < 0.001 and p < 0.001, respectively). The cut-off times of 8.43 s best discriminated PwPD from healthy people, while 11.19 s best discriminated fallers from non-fallers with PD. The F8WT is a reliable, valid, and easy-to-administer tool in assessing the walking skill of PwPD. The figure-of-eight walk test (F8WT) is a reliable, valid, and clinically available tool for assessing walking skill in Parkinson's disease (PD). The minimal detectable change of the F8WT is 2.77 s, which may help to determine any real change in walking skill after any intervention. To identify the importance of and difficulty with valued activities in persons with systemic sclerosis (SSc) and to examine relationships between disease symptoms and difficulty with valued activities using the Valued Activities Scale (VLA). A secondary purpose was to examine the internal consistency of the Short-VLA Scale (S-VLA). A cross-sectional convenience sample of 99 people with SSc completed questionnaires regarding demographics, symptom severity, Health Assessment Questionnaire (HAQ), Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D), and the VLA. Obligatory activities were rated as most important; committed activities were significantly more difficult than obligatory and discretionary. Less fatigue (p < 0.01) and lower HAQ (p < 0.001) and CES-D (p < 0.01) scores were associated with higher total VLA scores. Internal consistency of the S-VLA was excellent (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92; p < 0.0001). The correlation between the S-VLA and the VLA was excellent (r = 0.96; p < 0.001). There were moderate correlations between the S-VLA and the HAQ (r = 0.73; p < 0.0001); the correlation with the CES-D was only fair (r = 0.35; p < 0.001). Committed and discretionary activities were more difficult for people with SSc to perform. Results are similar to findings with people with rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus. Home management/caregiving (committed) and leisure and social participation (discretionary) activities are more difficult to perform by people with SSc compared to self-care (obligatory) activities. Our findings that difficulty scores on the VLA were associated with more fatigue and depression suggest the need for rehabilitation to reduce disability in people with SSc. The benefits of volunteering among youth are well documented. However, research is limited on volunteering among youth with disabilities. This study examined prevalence and associations of volunteering among youth with disabilities. We analyzed data from the 2016–2018 National Survey of Children's Health (n= 42 204). Prevalence estimates were calculated for sociodemographic and household factors, volunteering, and functional limitations. Bivariate and multivariable associations between participation in volunteering activities and variables of interest were assessed. Youth with disabilities had lower prevalence of volunteering compared to youth without disabilities (48.4% vs. 55.6%). Youth with hearing and vision impairments had the lowest prevalence of volunteering (2.1% and 2.5%, respectively). Correlates of volunteering included health status (adjusted odds ratios (aOR)=1.81; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.13–2.91), sex, and age. Our study found low prevalence of volunteering among youth with disabilities. Since youth with disabilities face unique barriers to social inclusion, it is important to identify and reduce the barriers to participation among this group. Volunteer opportunities in the community should be designed to be both environmentally and programmatically accessible to youth with disabilities. These efforts should include accommodations and other support so that participants can fully experience all of the benefits of volunteering. To explore the prevalence of health anxiety in stroke survivors and its relative impact on quality of life. A cross-sectional design was used including between group comparisons of high and low health anxious stroke survivors. Stroke survivors (n = 105) were recruited via online stroke community forums. Participants completed measures of health anxiety (Short Health Anxiety Inventory), general anxiety and depression (Hospital and Anxiety and Depression Scale), disability (WHO Disability Assessment Schedule), and quality of life (Quality of Life Index). Demographics and medical histories were also assessed. Thirty percent of the sample scored above the clinical cut off for health anxiety. Stroke survivors with high health anxiety (HiHA) were found to have significantly lower quality of life (p < 0.001) and higher rates of depression (p < 0.001). Regression analysis found health anxiety to be a significant predictor of quality of life (β = –0.12; p < 0.05) in addition to levels of depression (β = –0.33; p < 0.001) and disability (β = –0.53; p < 0.001). Almost a third of stroke survivors were experiencing clinical levels of health anxiety, with HiHA significantly associated with lower quality of life. Future research should explore the use of existing evidence based psychological interventions for health anxiety in this population. Our findings suggest almost one in three stroke survivors residing in the community have clinical levels of health anxiety. High health anxiety in stroke survivors was significantly related to lower levels of quality of life. Given this finding, evidence-based treatments for health anxiety may improve quality of life and reduce distress for a significant proportion of stroke survivors. Rehabilitation approaches aimed at improving overall quality of life for stroke survivors should consider both physical and psychological interventions, with levels of physical disability, depression and anxiety all significantly associated with quality of life. To report on the methodology, participant characteristics, and associations of four most frequent environmental barriers with health conditions, general health and quality of life (QoL) in the very first systematic data collection in people with spinal cord injury (SCI) in Morocco. We obtained data from 385 participants of the cross-sectional Moroccan SCI community survey (MorSCI). We used descriptive statistics to describe participant characteristics and regression models to investigate associations of the five most frequently reported environmental barriers with health conditions (secondary conditions, pain intensity, mental health), general health and QoL. The most frequently reported environmental barriers were "lack of public services" (92.5%), "financial strain" (93.0%), restricted access to "public transportation" (85.5%), "public places" (83.9%) and "private places" (84.7%). People who perceived those factors as barriers also reported more secondary conditions, higher pain intensity, lower mental health, lower general health, and lower QoL. This study on Moroccans with SCI found that environmental barriers detract from health and QoL. Given that environmental barriers are potentially modifiable, policy interventions present powerful tools to reduce barriers and potentially increase health and QoL in this vulnerable population. Public policy on the construction of transportation and public places is important to make the physical environment accessible for wheelchair users to support their participation in society. The provision of adequate rehabilitation services and specialized post-acute rehabilitation units for people with SCI in Morocco is urgently needed, not only to contribute to health and QoL but also to contribute to their abilities to overcome environmental barriers. Adequate state services including universal health coverage and access to rehabilitation services and assistive devices or adapted tools must be a priority on the policy level to facilitate activities of daily living and reduce barriers. To study psychological distress and fatigue among persons with spina bifida (SB) 50 years or older and living in Norway. In 2017, cross-sectional data were collected (n = 30). The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS) were used. Descriptive statistics, non-parametric tests, and Spearman correlations were performed. Relevant information from previous studies on adults with chronic spinal cord injury (SCI) and the general population, were collected for comparison. Participants were 18 women and 12 men, mean age 57.5 (SD 5.6), 26 with myelomeningocele, and six with hydrocephalus. Thirty percent scored above the HADS-A- and 20% above the HADS-D thresholds, thus in the same range as previous studies of SB, but higher compared to persons with SCI and norms. HADS-D correlated with pain and FSS scores. Forty percent reported fatigue symptoms (9/15 without hydrocephalus, 3/6 with hydrocephalus). The study revealed a high prevalence of fatigue symptomatology among middle-aged and older adults with SB. Symptoms of anxiety and depression were more common than among persons with chronic SCI and norms. SB follow-ups should include awareness of psychological distress and fatigue, and investigate pain and medication side effects among possible influencing factors. Clinicians treating adult persons with SB should be aware of possible psychological distress and fatigue symptomatology among these patients. We suggest an initial screening for psychological distress and fatigue in persons with SB during follow-up visits and rehabilitation. Interventions to reduce pain may influence levels of psychological distress and/or fatigue in patients with SB. Paediatric acquired brain injury (ABI) negatively impacts parental wellbeing and family functioning. Adaptive coping, that is behaviours promoting emotional wellbeing and addressing distressing problems, may support wellbeing and family functioning. This study compared wellbeing, coping, and family functioning between parents of a child with ABI and parents in the community, and examined coping as a predictor of wellbeing and family functioning. Forty parents of a child with ABI and 40 parents in the community participated in this cross-sectional survey using the Personal Wellbeing Index, Coping Scale for Adults Short Form, McMaster Family Assessment Device (General Functioning Subscale). The ABI group had statistically significantly lower wellbeing, t(68.70) = −4.01, p < 0.001, lower adaptive coping, t(73.95) = −3.27, p = 0.002, and poorer family functioning, t(77) = 4.26, p < 0.001. Family composition (single-parent/couple), having a child with ABI, adaptive coping, and non-productive coping predicted 47.7% of the variance in wellbeing, F(5, 70) = 12.75, p < 0.001. Parental education, having a child with ABI, and non-productive coping predicted 35.9% of the variance in family functioning, F(5, 69) = 7.71, p < 0.001. Adaptive coping may contribute to better family outcomes in paediatric ABI. Paediatric ABI may have a significant impact on the child with ABI and the family, leading to poorer outcomes for some families. This study suggested that parents of a child with ABI use adaptive coping less than parents in the community but do not differ in the use of non-productive coping. Families need long-term targeted support to meet the challenges paediatric ABI presents and may benefit from interventions which actively seek to change parental coping strategies. Evaluate the effect of kinesiophobia on functional outcomes following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR). A three-phase, integrated mixed-methods review of observational and qualitative studies was undertaken. (1) Systematic search of studies with participants over 12 years old, following ACLR and focusing on kinesiophobia, using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) for observational studies. Exclusion criteria included ipsilateral knee surgery and the involvement of elite athletes. (2) Critical appraisal for both design types was undertaken. (3) Synthesis occurred in five stages. Results were reported as a relationship between the TSK and other functional outcome measures. Finally, qualitative results were integrated to explain the results. Twenty-four studies (1174 participants) were included with no exclusion based on the quality appraisal. Six themes were identified: (1) return to sport (RTS); (2) activities of daily living; (3) knee-related quality of life; (4) gait; (5) reinjury; and (6) knee disability and physical function. The highest strength of evidence was the negative association between increased TSK scores and both decreased activity levels and RTS. Kinesiophobia affects a range of functional outcomes. Further research is required to identify screening tools and interventions for patients with kinesiophobia. Kinesiophobia affects the effectiveness of rehabilitation following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction, therefore addressing kinesiophobia both pre- and post-ACLR is important to optimise rehabilitation. Validated screening tools are required to identify kinesiophobia in individuals early to allow appropriate rehabilitation. Physiotherapists need to use a range of physiotherapeutic techniques, such as motor imagery and prehabilitation to assist individuals to overcome their kinesiophobia and improve their functional outcomes post-ACLR. Propose a way of coding and qualifying HRQoL following a stroke using the codes and qualifiers of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). An observational, cross-sectional study was conducted involving 51 individuals with hemiparesis resulting from a stroke. ICF codes related to the Stroke Specific Quality of Life (SS-QOL) scale were listed and subsequently classified using the generic ICF qualifiers, which range from.0 – no impairment to.4 – complete impairment. A simple mathematic calculation was proposed to convert the SS-QOL scores into ICF qualifiers. The use of the ICF qualifiers revealed that the individuals exhibited a moderate level (.2) of quality of life, with mild impairment (.1) regarding upper limb function, language, self-care, and vision as well as severe impairment (.3) regarding social relations. The proposal presented in this study allowed qualifying 43 ICF codes related to quality of life after a stroke in a simple, standardized manner, enabling the identification of different levels of impairment on each of the domains of the SS-QOL scale. This coding standardizes the evaluation, facilitates communication between healthcare providers, and systematizes the collection of data and information on health. Proposal for qualifying concepts related to body functions, activity & participation, and environmental factors in a simple, standardized manner. To evaluate fatigue and cognitive functioning in patients with low-grade glioma and to assess whether cognitive functioning and employment status differ between patients with severe and non-severe mental fatigue. Cross-sectional study. Fatigue was measured with the multidimensional fatigue inventory, objective cognitive functioning with a neuropsychological test battery, and mood with the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Thirty-one patients, mean age 44 ± 11, mean time post-diagnosis 2.5 ± 1.4 years, participated. Severe mental fatigue was present in 55% and depression in 36% of the patients. Attention deficits were observed in 75% (Stroop's test), memory deficits in 36% (Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test), and executive functioning deficits in 42% (Stroop's test). Severe mental fatigue patients demonstrated significantly worse scores on Stroop's test-Card-II (p = 0.043), Trail Making Test-B (p = 0.014), Trail Making Test-B/A (p = 0.014), and Digit-Span (p = 0.046), compared to non-severe mental fatigue patients. Severe mental fatigue patients worked significantly less hours per week (p = 0.013) and had more changes in their employment status (p = 0.009) after diagnosis. Patients with low grade glioma show high rates of fatigue, especially in the mental domain, which might be associated with deficits in cognitive functioning and changes in employment status. The majority of patients with low grade glioma suffers from severe mental fatigue and has deficits in cognitive functioning, which may affect employment status. Patients with low grade glioma should be screened for fatigue with the multidimensional fatigue inventory, to differentiate between mental and physical fatigue. Patients with low grade glioma with severe mental fatigue should be screened for problems in cognitive functioning with an objective neuropsychological test battery. Youth Facilitators (YFs) are peer service providers (SPs) with childhood-onset disabilities working in pediatric rehabilitation teams. This study explored the YF role focusing on what work YFs do, the perceived facilitators and challenges pertinent to the role integration process, and the evolution of the role over the study period. A longitudinal, qualitative case study approach was used to gather data over a total period of 14 months through interviews, focus groups, workload logs, and observations. Data were analyzed using the method of thematic analysis. Two YFs, 23 SPs and two managers participated in the study. YFs' work included independent consultation, resource provision, referral making, and program co-facilitation. Analysis produced two contrasting themes. When viewed as a representative of clients, YFs were considered bringing client perspectives to care, adding credibility to clinical services, and empowering clients and families through role modeling. However, when viewed as a professional SP, their expertise was questioned due to role unclarity, limited generalizability of lived experience, and organizational limitations. Training tailored to local care contexts and organizational supports are needed to transform YFs' experiential knowledge into experiential expertise. We propose strategies for optimal integration of peer providers into clinical care teams. As peer service providers with lived experience of disabilities, Youth Facilitators (YFs) have the potential to benefit pediatric rehabilitation services by facilitating empowerment in clients and families as they navigate through life transitions. The YF scope of practice and training should be adapted to fit with individual clinical teams and local care contexts to help YFs establish their experiential expertise in interdisciplinary teams. Few studies have characterised the relationship between disease and gait function in children and young people with rare neuromuscular disorders (NMDs). This study aimed to describe the relationship between disease and gait in a large paediatric cohort from a neuromuscular outpatient clinic. A prospective, cross-sectional study of gait in independently ambulant children and young people aged 4–21 years with a clinical or genetically confirmed NMD. Participants traversed an electronic walkway barefoot and in footwear at self-selected and fast pace. Analysis of disease included a typically developing (TD) reference group. A sample of 113 participants with NMD, mean age 9.5 years (SD 3.1), 28% female, grouped into nine diagnostic subgroups. Eighty percent reported limitations to functional mobility. Children with NMD walked slower, with a shorter and wider step compared to a TD reference group, with moderate to large effect sizes for each of these gait parameters indicative of the clinical significance of these gait deviations. Children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) walked slowest with a markedly wide gait pattern. Footwear had little overall effect on gait in children with NMDs. All children could accelerate over short distances. Gait, notably speed, step length, and width are clinically significant biomarkers of disease in paediatric NMDs, affording objective functional measures in clinical settings and research. Gait should be considered a functional biomarker of disease in children and young people with neuromuscular disorders (NMDs). Comparison of gait in a paediatric neuromuscular cohort indicates that children with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) walk slowest with a shorter step length and a wider step width which increases with age and disease progression. Measurement of gait speed is a simple, pragmatic tool to monitor disease progression in the outpatient clinical environment and relates to everyday function. Measuring the physical activity of adults with progressive muscle diseases is important to inform clinical practice, for activity recommendations and for outcomes meaningful to participants in clinical trials. Despite its wide use, the measurement properties of the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) have not been established in a muscle disease population. The sample of 103 adults with progressive muscle diseases included independently mobile participants and wheelchair users. Their home-based activity measured by the IPAQ was compared to simultaneous weeks of accelerometer activity data collected remotely in a longitudinal, measure evaluation study. Validity, reliability, and responsiveness were evaluated for the IPAQ alone, and for the IPAQ used in conjunction with a smart activity monitor. The IPAQ did not demonstrate satisfactory criterion validity, reliability or responsiveness and it systematically overestimated moderate and vigorous physical activity time by 161 minutes per week. Measurement properties of the IPAQ were improved when it was used in combination with a smart activity monitor. The IPAQ did not have satisfactory measurement properties compared to accelerometry in adults with progressive muscle disease. Combining self-report and objective activity measures might improve the accuracy of physical activity assessment in this and other comparable populations. Physical activity is a meaningful health outcome for adults with progressive muscle diseases, for whom precise activity quantification is important because of the potential for activity-related disease exacerbation. This systematic review examined correlates of physical activity (PA) at all levels of the socio-ecological model (i.e., intrapersonal, interpersonal, environmental and policy level) in children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Major electronic databases were searched from inception until March 23rd, 2021. A summary coding was used to analyze the data for children (3–12 years) and adolescents (13–18 years) with ASD separately. Out of the 79 potential PA correlates, retrieved from 32 studies (991 657 children; 3857 adolescents), only five correlates were consistently examined as a PA correlate (i.e., examined in four or more studies) in children and adolescents with ASD. Only age was inversely associated with PA in children and adolescents with ASD. Data on gender, body mass index, autism severity level and day of the week being physically active in children with ASD were mixed. We only found consistent evidence for age being inversely related to PA. Our review indicates that more research is needed to explore intrapersonal, interpersonal, environmental and policy-related correlates of PA in children and adolescents with ASD. Rehabilitation programs should take into account that in particular older children and adolescents with autism spectrum disorder are at risk for physical inactivity. Caregivers of people with disability experience difficulties in a variety of care domains. Understanding the predictive factors of caregiver strain is important in developing and implementing evidence-based intervention to reduce the difficulties experienced by the carers. The current study is a cross sectional comprehensive one-phase survey conducted in randomly selected sub-districts (taluks) of the Ernakulam district in Kerala. Primary caregivers (n = 851) for persons with different kinds of disability were identified with the help of ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activities) from the selected geographical locations and were interviewed in a house-to-house survey after obtaining written informed consent. Validated tools measuring caregiver strain, financial burden, access to services and wellbeing were used to study the population. Majority of the caregivers were females (77.3%) and spouses (35.2%). Of the caregivers 27% reported high levels of caregiver strain. The major factors associated with caregiver strain were female gender (B = 1.379, p = 0.000), financial issues (B = 0.105, p = 0.000), the general health of caregivers (B = 0.467, p = 0.000) and issues relating to employment (B = 0.956, p = 0.000) and the availability of government welfare services (B = 1.138, p = 0.000). High caregiver burden and strain is experienced by almost a third of people caring for a person with a disability. Comprehensive interventions to reduce caregiver strain should be developed. The rehabilitation sector needs to be made aware of the high levels of caregiver strain (especially in carers who were female, unemployed, have health issues and lack formal support). To improve wellbeing for people with disability we firstly need to promote social inclusion and support schemes for caregiver. Aging-related sensory impairments are among the most common and disabling comorbidities in people with dementia (PwD). This study explored the unmet support care needs (SCNs) from the perspectives of people with hearing and/or vision impairment in dementia (PwD), and their care partners in Europe. This was a two-phase mixed methods study. We administered standardized questionnaires of SCNs and quality of life (QoL) to PwD with hearing and/or vision impairment (n = 97), and their care partners (n = 97) in the UK, France, and Cyprus. Next, a purposive sub-sample of 34 participants (PwD and care partners) participated as focus groups (FGs) or semi-structured interviews to explore their SCNs in depth. Over 94% of the participants reported unmet SCNs (median, 13 (range 5–23)). Nearly three-quarters reported SCNs in the moderate to high range, with the most prevalent unmet SCNs for PwD being in the psychological (>60%) and physical domains (>56%), followed by the need for health information (>46%). Emergent qualitative themes were: (1) the need for tailored support care interventions; (2) care burden, social isolation, and loneliness arising from the combined problems; (3) the need for adequate support from professionals from the different fields, including education around the use of sensory aids. Both study phases revealed that SCNs were highly individualized. This cross-national study revealed that PwD with sensory impairment and their care partners experience a wide range of unmet SCNs, the interactions between sensory impairments, SCNs and QoL are also complex. A tailored intervention could address these unmet SCNs, including additional support with sensory aids, psychological support, more information about concurrent impairments, and joined up health systems providing care. A majority of participants with combined age-related hearing, vision, and cognitive impairment had unmet SCNs. The needs of care partners including the risk of loneliness and social isolation, need to be considered. Investigating mothers' perceptions of Cerebral Palsy (CP) and the impact of caregiving on family life in Benin, a west-African low to middle-income country (LMIC). In this cross-sectional study we interviewed at their homes 88 mothers of children with CP about their perception of the cause of CP and stigmatization issues. Additionally, they completed the Impact on Family Scale and the Family Support Scale questionnaires. Multinomial and ordinal regressions analyses were used (p < 0.05). Most mothers (78%) referred to non-biomedical causes of CP (God's will or curse). Caregivers with a limited education level were more likely to report non-biomedical beliefs. Only 28% reported having received from physicians an explanation of the causes of CP. Around 38% endorsed neighbors considered their children as cursed, which is a source of stigmatization. Mothers perceived a high impact of caregiving on their family life that correlated with non-biomedical beliefs, low education level, and the severity of CP. There is a need in Benin, and probably in West-African LMICs generally, to shift to a family-centered care system and to inform the public about the root causes of CP to improve social integration of children with CP and decrease the negative impact on their families. Mothers with a limited education level are more likely to report non-biomedical causes of CP in this LMIC; mothers' level of education and non-biomedical beliefs of causes of CP are associated to a high impact of caregiving on family life in this LMIC; mothers of children with CP in this LMIC do not perceive health-workers helpful. Fathers in families raising children with disabilities are under-researched. Fathers' perspectives can be better accommodated in childhood disability services that operate on a family-centred paradigm if their perspectives are understood. This study aimed to investigate the perspectives of fathers on caring and family life, work, and health. A mixed-methods design with an online questionnaire included open-ended questions and three instruments: Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS); Health Promoting Activities Scale (HPAS-M); Fathers of Children with Developmental Challenges (FCDC) Scale. Fathers (n = 33) reported high depressive (58%), anxiety (37%), and stress symptoms (61%). Fathers reported low participation in health-promoting activity with less than weekly: planning health activities (58%); solo physical activity (26%); social activity (3%); time relaxing (16%). Sixty-four percent worked full-time, although work was reported to be challenged by family responsibilities. Fathers described directly caring for their children although service interactions were low and delegated to mothers. Fathers in this study reported stress, mental health issues, and low participation in healthy activity. Fathers experienced challenges related to career progression and job choices due to family responsibilities. Providing individualised and responsive support to fathers of a child with a disability would better support the family unit. Fathers of children with a disability in this study experienced high mental health symptoms. Fathers were involved with their child's care at home but had low service interactions suggesting that service providers need to discover new ways to better engage fathers. Fathers experienced challenges to participation in paid work secondary to care responsibilities for their child with a disability and resulting needs of their family. For persons on disability benefits who are facing multiple problems, active labour market policies seem less successful. Besides health problems, these people perceive personal, social, and environmental problems. Since very little is known about these "non-medical" problems our aim was to explore the prevalence of clients experiencing multiple problems, the types and number of perceived problems, combinations of perceived problems, and associated characteristics in a group of work disability benefit recipients. We performed a cross-sectional study, using self-reported data on perceived problems and socio-demographics, and register data from the Dutch Social Security Institute on diagnosed diseases and employment status. A convenient group of labour experts recruited eligible clients on work disability benefit. Of the 207 persons on work disability benefit, 87% perceived having multiple problems. Most reported problems were related to physical (76%) or mental (76%) health. Health problems most frequently occurred together with a mismatch in education, financial problems, or care for family members. Clients with lower education experienced significantly more problems than clients with an intermediate or high educational level. Clients with multiple problems face severe and intertwined problems in different domains of life, and need tailored multi-actor work disability management. Clients with multiple problems face severe and intertwined problems in different domains of life; therefore, interventions tailored to deal with needs related to specific problems might be more effective than traditional programs. Interventions should match experienced barriers, and involve multi-actor work disability management with all the challenges of mutual cooperation. Stroke is the third most common cause of disability worldwide. In order to effectively study the disability status experienced by stroke survivors, it is important to identify reliable and valid tools to measure disability that can be administered to this population. No previous study had been conducted on the Indonesian version of the WHO Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS 2.0). The aim of this study was to develop and validate the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 for stroke survivors in Indonesia. Following translation and back-translation, the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 was administered to 183 stroke survivors. We used all six domains of the WHODAS 2.0, with the exception of four items of "work or school activities" in domain 5. Internal consistency was measured by Cronbach's alpha, the inter-rater reliability was measured by interclass correlations (ICCs), and the construct validity was tested with an exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The range of Cronbach's alpha was 0.86–0.92, which indicated excellent reliability, and ICC was very good at 0.87–0.99. The EFA and CFA for the main 32-item questionnaire exhibited a total variance of 95% (KMO) and a p value of <0.05. The factor loadings per items were >0.4, and all the model fit indices were acceptable. The WHODAS 2.0 was adapted for use in Indonesia and showed good results for all six domains. Therefore, the Indonesian version of the WHODAS 2.0 can be applied to assess disability in Indonesian stroke survivors. To translate and validate the Greek version of the Somatic Symptom Scale-8 (SSS-8) in patients with chronic low back pain (CLBP). The Greek SSS-8, created through forth and back translation and cultural adaption processes, was handed over to 145 patients recruited using simple random sampling. Test–retest, composite, and internal consistency reliability were assessed. Construct validity was examined by assessing correlations with Patient Health Questionnaire-15 (PHQ-15), Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7), and EuroQoL 5-dimension 5-level (EQ-5D-5L) instruments. Structural validity was assessed using confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Convergent, discriminant, and known group validity were also evaluated. The response rate was 95.1% (138 subjects, mean age 43.2 ± 11.7) and the overall Cronbach's alpha was 0.831. Test–retest reliability assessment revealed excellent results (Pearson's r > 0.996; Lin's concordance coefficient > 0.995; intraclass correlation coefficient >0.995, all p < 0.001). Composite reliability scores for the pain, cardiopulmonary, and fatigue domains were 0.712, 0.787, and 0.567, respectively. The correlation analyses indicated good construct validity. CFA revealed excellent fit results and known group validity output indicated a linear increasing trend in the severity of somatic symptom disorders (SSDs), depression, and anxiety with higher PHQ-15, PHQ-9, and GAD-7 scores (Jonckheere-Terpstra test, p value < 0.001). The Greek SSS-8 was shown to be a reliable and valid tool for measuring SSDs in patients with CLBP. According to the Global Burden of Diseases Study 2017, LBP was one of the leading causes of disability for both sexes combined since 1990. Strategies to identify SSDs in patients with LBP at an earlier stage are essential both for the provision of an optimal targeted treatment and for minimizing its direct and indirect economic burden. The Greek SSS-8 is a standardized and validated instrument, which its utilization will enhance the physical therapy assessment process in the Greek population. There is growing interest in measures that assess upper-limb lymphedema after breast cancer. Since no validated Italian version of the Lymphedema Quality of Life Questionnaire for upper limbs (LYMQOL-UL) exists, we aimed to culturally adapt and validate an Italian version (LYMQOL-UL-IT) in order to allow its use in Italian patients. The LYMQOL-UL-IT was developed by means of forward-backward translation, review by an expert committee and a test of the pre-final version to evaluate its comprehensibility. The psychometric testing included reliability by internal consistency (Cronbach's alpha) and test-retest reliability (intraclass correlation coefficient, ICC(2.1)), measurement error by calculating the minimum detectable change (MDC95), construct validity by confirmatory factor analysis, and evaluation of a priori hypotheses about the correlations between the four LYMQOL-UL domains, single items of the LYMQOL-UL, and measures of health-related quality of life and pain intensity (Spearman's rank correlation coefficient). The consensus-based version of LYMQOL-UL-IT was administered to 139 patients with upper-limb stable secondary iatrogenic lymphedema after breast cancer. The adapted questionnaire was well accepted as it was completed in less than 10 min, without missing answers or comprehension problems. Internal consistency was acceptable (α = 0.92-0.95). Test-retest reliability was good-to-excellent (ICC(2.1) = 0.73-0.96). The MDC95 for the four domains of the questionnaire was as follows: 0.64 scale points for Function, 0.40 for Appearance, 0.53 for Symptoms, and 0.81 for Mood. Factor analysis confirmed a 4-dimensional structure as originally conceived and the a priori hypotheses were met. The LYMQOL-UL-IT is reliable, sensitive to change and valid in patients with upper-limb stable secondary iatrogenic lymphedema after breast cancer. It can be used for clinical and research purposes. Lymphedema is a frequently unnoticed clinical condition that not only impacts physical functioning but often restricts the health-related quality of life in breast cancer survivors. To investigate wellbeing and work impacts in younger people with persistent shoulder pain. People aged 20–55 years with shoulder pain of >6 weeks' duration (excluding those with recent fracture or dislocation) were recruited from orthopaedic clinics at three major public hospitals. Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological distress were evaluated using the Assessment of Quality of Life (AQoL) and K10 instruments and compared to population norms. Shoulder-related absenteeism and presenteeism were quantified using the Work Productivity and Activity Impairment (WPAI) Questionnaire. Of the 81 participants (54% male), 69% had shoulder pain for over 12 months. Substantial HRQoL impairment was evident (mean reduction from population norms 0.33 AQoL units, 95% CI −0.38 to −0.27; minimal important difference 0.06 AQoL units). High or very high psychological distress was three times more prevalent among participants than the general population (relative risk 3.67, 95% CI 2.94 to 4.59). One-quarter of participants had ceased paid employment due to shoulder pain and 77% reported shoulder-related impairment at work. The broader impacts of painful shoulder conditions on younger people extend well beyond pain and upper limb functional limitations. In particular, the work-related impacts should form a routine part of patient assessment and rehabilitation. Persistent shoulder pain in younger people (aged 20–55 years) is associated with substantially reduced health-related quality of life and greater psychological distress, compared to population norms, as well as work participation and productivity impacts. As rotator cuff conditions, shoulder capsule pathology, and glenohumeral instability are relatively common, our data suggest that persistent shoulder pain is likely to have a high community impact among people of working age. Information resources that people with painful shoulder conditions can share with their families, employers, and colleagues may assist others to better understand the broader impacts of these conditions. Work-related challenges associated with shoulder pain should be considered within routine clinical care, and may require referral to an occupational health clinician or vocational rehabilitation service. Elucidating the complex interactions between physical activity (PA), a multidimensional concept, and physical capacity (PC) may reveal ways to improve rehabilitation interventions. This cross-sectional study aimed to explore which PA dimensions are related to PC in people after minor stroke. Community dwelling individuals >6 months after minor stroke were evaluated with a 10-Meter-Walking-Test (10MWT), Timed-Up & Go, and the Mini Balance Evaluation System Test. The following PA outcomes were measured with an Activ8 accelerometer: counts per minute during walking (CPMwalking; a measure of intensity), number of active bouts (frequency), mean length of active bouts (distribution), and percentage of waking hours in upright positions (duration). Multivariable linear regression models, adjusted for age, sex and BMI, were used to assess the relationships between PC and PA outcomes. Sixty-nine participants [62.2 ± 9.8 years, 61% male, 20 months post onset (IQR 13.0–53.5)] were included in the analysis. CPMwalking was significantly associated to PC in the 10MWT (std. ß = 0.409, p = 0.002), whereas other associations between PA and PC were not significant. The PA dimension intensity of walking is significantly associated with PC, and appears to be an important tool for future interventions in rehabilitation after minor stroke. It is recommended to express physical activity after minor stroke in multiple dimensions such as intensity, frequency, duration and distribution. In particular, intensity of physical activity measured with accelerometer counts is most closely related to physical capacity. The findings of this study underline the importance of being physically active beyond a certain intensity. Generic preference-based measures often lack validity in states of impaired mobility. Our aim was to derive a novel health state classification system from the MobQoL tool, for the purpose of preference-based measurement of states of impaired mobility. Data were collected through online and postal surveys. Respondents were recruited through the NHS, charitable organisations and HealthWise Wales. Statistical and psychometric analyses were used to assess the validity and reliability of the MobQoL tool. Exploratory factor analysis and Rasch analysis were used to determine dimensional structure and to select items for the MobQoL health state classification system. Three hundred and forty-two respondents completed the survey. Respondents had a wide range of different mobility impairments. Nine of the MobQoL items demonstrated adequate validity and reliability. Exploratory factor analysis and Rasch analysis confirmed two sub-scales within the item structure: 1) physical and role functioning, and 2) mental wellbeing. Seven items were found to have adequate model fit and were retained in the final health state classification system, called the MobQoL-7D. The MobQoL-7D contains seven dimensions of mobility-related quality of life: accessibility, contribution, pain/discomfort, independence, self-esteem, mood/emotions and anxiety. Population level preference weights are now needed for different states of mobility impairment. Mobility impairment has distinct impacts on mental wellbeing and physical/role functioning. The MobQoL-7D will facilitate accurate preference-based outcome measurement in populations with impaired mobility, which in turn will promote methods of economic evaluation in this context. There is conflicting literature on the effect of post-amputation pain on quality of life (QOL) and no available literature on the relationship of pain medications to QOL of amputees in pain. The aims of the study were to compare QOL in lower limb amputees with significant pain to those with minimal pain and compare QOL in amputees on multiple pain medications (≥3 and/or ≥ 40 mg morphine equivalent/day) to those on minimal. Cross-sectional study of amputees (n = 101) utilizing standardized (brief pain inventory, pain self-efficacy, Euro QOL scale), institutional amputee specific questionnaires. Post-amputation pain was common (69%), but only 13% of the participants were using more pain medications. High-pain interference and poor self-efficacy were associated with poorer QOL after adjusting for age, gender and cause of amputation. High medication use was associated with high-pain interference and poor self-efficacy, but there was minimal correlation between pain scores and medication usage (p > 0.05). Quality of life was not influenced by high medication usage (p > 0.05 for pain interference; p > 0.05 for self-efficacy). Post-amputation pain continues to be a major determinant of QOL in lower limb amputees, but the role of pain medications on an amputee's QOL remains unclear. An amputee's QOL is affected by the severity of their post-amputation pain even beyond six months post their amputation. An amputee with more pain may not necessarily take more pain medications to manage their pain. The amount of pain medications taken may not influence their self-reported QOL. Pain and QOL assessment should be integrated into routine clinical evaluation of adult amputees. Standardized screening tools and/or formative assessment can be utilized for assessing QOL. The primary aim was to explore the perceived barriers that lower limb amputees and service providers face when accessing or providing rehabilitation services. The secondary aim was to describe the lower limb amputations performed in public hospitals in the Western Area of Sierra Leone in 2018. A mixed methodology was employed, involving the collection of amputation data from surgical logbooks and interviews with amputees (n = 10) and group discussion and interviews with service providers (n = 11). Of the 37 primary lower limb amputations (49% men, 51% women; median age 56 years; 62% transtibial and 35% transfemoral amputations) 86% were for diabetic and vascular causes. Barriers to accessing services included poor transportation access, high service fees, rural living, gender and a lack of government support. Insufficient funding and supplies, skilled staff shortages and a lack of local training programmes were frequently reported barriers to providing rehabilitation services. A low prioritisation means rehabilitation services are underfunded, resulting in numerous barriers to both accessing and providing amputee rehabilitation services. Subsidised services and an outreach programme may improve access for patients. Increased funding and local training programmes are needed to improve service delivery. Comprehensive and accessible amputee rehabilitation services can enable people with amputations to regain their independence and aid their participation in their community and workplace. There are numerous barriers to both accessing and providing amputee rehabilitation services in the Western Area, Sierra Leone, chiefly financial. We recommend a revised effort by the Sierra Leonean government to implement the progressive policies on disability they have already adopted into law, which will aid the improvement of amputee rehabilitation services. New education and training programmes for all levels of prosthetic and orthotic professions are needed to secure the future of prosthetics and orthotics in Sierra Leone. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

To assess the quality of life (QOL), physical activity (PA), community reintegration (CR), and body image (BI) among adults with acquired mobility disabilities. Relationships between the constructs were also assessed in order to ascertain how a change in one construct could influence the other. This cross-sectional survey involved 157 adults (mean age = 47.51 ± 21.08 years) consecutively recruited from conveniently selected centers in South-east Nigeria. The Short-Form 36-Item Health Survey, the Multidimensional Body Self Relations, the Reintegration to Normal Living Index, and the Short-Form 7-Day International Physical Activity questionnaires were used to assess participants' QOL, BI, CR, and PA respectively. Participants' scores and socio-demographic information were summarised using descriptive statistics while the Spearman test analysed the relationships between constructs. Participants' mean QOL (43.23 ± 13.07), CR (48.09 ± 22.84), and BI (2.91 ± 0.51) scores were poor while their mean PA score (4.39 ± 4.56 × 103 MET-min/week) was high. PA had significant positive relationships with CR (rho = 0.25; p < 0.01) and QOL (rho = 0.33; p < 0.01). BI had a significant positive relationship with CR (rho = 0.28; p = 0.01). PA was high for this sample of individuals with mobility disability receiving physiotherapy but QOL, CR, and BI were poor. Based on observed correlations, rehabilitation interventions for enhancing PA may help improve QOL and CR. Mobility disabilities are very common and burdensome in Nigeria and other African countries. Quality of life, physical activity, community reintegration, and body image can be adversely affected among individuals with mobility disabilities. Understanding relationships between these constructs among individuals with mobility disabilities could help in enhancing rehabilitation planning and outcomes. To study patient experiences with physical activity among persons with Loeys-Dietz- or vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. A postal questionnaire survey in 2018. Seventy adults with molecularly verified Loeys-Dietz syndrome types 1-4, or vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome recruited through a National Resource Centre for Rare Disorders in Norway. The response rate was 74%, (Loeys-Dietz n = 34, vascular Ehlers-Danlos n = 18), aged 18 to 68 years, 58% women. In total, 88.5% reported they had received advice regarding physical activity and most (77%) had modified their habits. Fifty percent had an appropriate- and 40% a low mean physical activity sum score. Another 10% had too high physical activity levels due to high intensity scores. Lower scores with the Fatigue Severity Scale (p = 0.033) and the anxiety subscale of the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (p = 0.021), were associated with high physical activity levels. About a third reported unmet rehabilitation needs. Many adults with Loeys-Dietz- or vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome may have a potential to reach more favorable physical activity levels by increasing the frequency and duration of activities. Future directions should include evaluation of effects of professional-led practical and safe physical activity sessions as well as customized multidisciplinary rehabilitation programs for these patient groups. This study aimed at determining validity, reliability, and diagnostic accuracy of Coin Rotation Task (CRT) in assessing manual dexterity and coordination of children with specific learning disorder (SLD). In this non-experimental cross-sectional study, 120 children (typically developing children = 60, children with SLD = 60, mean age ± SD =9.18 ± 0.55) were recruited. Test–retest reliability and construct validity of CRT were assessed. Multivariate regression analysis was performed on CRT scores by considering age and gender as covariates and children with SLD with mild dexterity impairment and severe dexterity impairment (SDI) as outcome variables. Receiver-operating characteristics (ROC) curve analysis was carried out to derive validity parameters. Test-retest reliability of the CRT scores in both subtests were excellent in children with SLD (ICC2,1: 0.93–0.95) and good to excellent in typically developing children (ICC2,1: 0.72–0.82). Acceptable construct validity of CRT was also found. The CRT cut-off points were 23 (sensitivity= 89.29%, specificity= 70.37%) and 28 (sensitivity= 80.33%, specificity= 86.36%) for discriminating children with SLD and SDI from typically developing children in dominant and non-dominant hand, respectively. The present study indicated good to excellent test-retest reliability, acceptable validity, and high diagnostic accuracy for diagnosing children with SLD based on their dexterity impairment level. The Coin Rotation Task (CRT) was modified and validated for use in children. The CRT is a reliable and valid tool with high diagnostic accuracy. The CRT has a good ability for discriminating children with specific learning disorder with severe dexterity impairment form typically developing children.
