The study analyses papers published in DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology (DJLIT) using bibliometric techniques for the period of 1992-2019 (28 years) and citations received by these papers until 20th March 2020as reflected by Google Scholar. The study examined the pattern of growth, geographical distribution of the articles; identified the prolific authors & institutions, and their output; and the pattern of citations of the papers and identified most cited authors. The findings indicate that the highest number of articles was published during 2012-2015 followed by 2016-2019. The distribution of output by countries indicates that 39 countries contributed 1,698 articles, including India. Indian authors published the highest percentage (86.1 %) of articles followed by USA and had the highest value of CPP and RCI. Authors affiliated to different institutions of Delhi contributed the most (30.7 %) followed by Karnataka (13.1 %) and Maharashtra (10.5 %). Among the institutions, DRDO-DESIDOC and CSIR-NISTADS topped the list. Among the 26 most prolific authors, B.M. Gupta (CSIR-NISTADS) published the maximum number of articles. However, B.R. Babu (University of Madras, Chennai) had the highest value of CPP and RCI. During the studied period, 1,698 papers obtained 15,538 citations, of which 248 (14.6 %) articles did not receive any citation.

The paper provides quantitative and qualitative assessment of global publications output in the domain of e-learning research (1809 publications). The data was sourced from Scopus database during 2003-18. The study finds that global e-learning research registered 18.92 per cent annual average growth, averaged 6.90 citations per paper in a 16-year window. The distribution of global research in the subject is highly skewed as 10 out of 94 participating countries account for 62.58 per cent global publications share. A total of 449 authors from 387 organisations contributed to global e-learning research. The top 15 organisations collectively contributed 14.81 per cent global publication share and 24.52 per cent global citation share respectively. The top 15 authors contributed 7.89 per cent global publication share and and 33.45 per cent global citation share respectively during the period. Carnegie Mellon University, USA (49 papers) is the most productive organisations in the world, National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan (23.29 and 3.37) is the most cited organisation. M. Vivou (24 papers) is most prolific author in the world and C.M. Chen (103.0 and 14.93) the most cited author in the subject. Computers and Education and Computers in Human Behavior (20 papers) were the leading journals publishing on this theme.

The present paper has attempted to highlight published research in Library and Information Science discipline contributed by LIS researchers in India during the last four decades, 1980-2019. The secondary data for the study was extracted from Incites, a web based analytical tool, of Clarivate Analytics. The study has observed that there were 4304 publications by Indian authors, which received 17523 citations. It has spotlighted the research themes of the top 100 papers; having the highest numbers of citations. The study has analysed citations, publication avenues and authorship of all 4304 papers. Research themes of highly cited 100 research papers in the areas of applications of bibliometrics, knowledge management and information seeking behaviour on social media received 6110 citations. Bibliometrics/scientometrics/informetrics were the preferred research themes followed by information seeking behaviour and other areas.The study has also presented the analysis with respect to collaboration. The practice of solo research changed with authors collaborating in projects and producing papers. Percentage of co-authored articles grew from 5.61 per cent to 12.66 per cent in India. Journal impact, author impact, core journals and most productive authors in the discipline have also been studied.

Library and information science education (LIS) has been spreading out all over India. Every state, one or more institutes/universities, offers LIS education. The research papers contributed by both academics and working professionally in the libraries. This paper examines the current trends of LIS publications in India from 2014 to 2018. The study reviewed 1357 documents from 2014 to 2018 indexed in the Scopus database. The study found that majority of the 342 (25.2%) papers published in the year 2018. Favorite source for publications was DESIDOC Journal of Library and Information Technology. Similarly, LIS Indians professional more likely to published research papers collaboratively. Further noted that most frequently used keywords were scientometric, bibliometrics, India and authorship patterns, etc. The degree of collaboration (DC) for five years was 0.79. The analysis of co-citations of reference sources or cited sources indicated that “Scientometric,” and “Annals of library and information studies” mentioned in their articles.

The paper analyzes global publications in blockchain research on a series of quantitative and qualitative indicators, using Scopus database. Blockchain research published a total of 4629 research publications in 9-year period during 2010-18. The publications registered a fast growth of 150.24 per cent and registered average citation impact per paper of 5.04. The paper profiles most productive countries, organisation, authors and journals on select bibliometric indicators. The top 29 highly-cited papers in this area are also analysed.

Foreign authorship pattern to three leading Indian library and information science (LIS) journals during 2008 to 2017 has been examined to identify the acceptability and popularity of Indian LIS journals among foreign authors. The present study investigates the authorship pattern in terms of different aspects like journals, years, collaborations, prolific authors, countries, research areas, cited papers and citations. It is found that in last 10 year the three LIS journals publish total 186 foreign authored article having total 1267 citation and two-authored papers are predominant. Besides, the authors from Nigeria share maximum articles followed by USA. It is recommended that the Indian LIS authors need to emphasis more on international collaboration to output more foreign authored contributions in national level journals to enrich journals literature.

An analysis of 2428 papers indexed by Indian citation Index during 2004-2015 indicate that the pattern of growth of Indian library and information science literature has been highly inconsistent with highest number of papers published in 2010. Academic institutions contributed about 86% of papers. Prolific institutions contributed about 44% of the output, with Mysore University topping the list closely followed by University of Delhi. However, highest impact as reflected by citation per paper was made by CSIR-NISTADS and CSIR-NISCAIR. B.M. Gupta of CSIR-NISTADS topped the list, but highest CPP was for K.C.Garg of the same institute. SRELS Journal of Information Management published the highest number of papers and the area of bibliometrics and scientometrics was the area of priority of LIS professionals in India.

The paper examines the world output in artificial intelligence research, a total of 1,52,655 publications, as seen from Scopus database, covering the period during 2007-16. The top 10 countries of the world in artificial intelligence research accounted for 74.32 per cent global publication share. Individually their global share varied from 3.68 per cent to 19.46 per cent, with China accounting for 19.46 per cent global share, followed by the USA (17.96 %), India (6.37 %), and the U.K. (6.33 %), etc. The paper also examines publications output by India in artificial intelligence research. India cumulated a total of 9730 publications in 10 years during 2007-16, registered an annual average growth rate of 27.45 per cent, averaged citation impact to 2.76 citations per paper, and contributed 10.34 per cent share of its total country output as international collaborative publications during 2007-16. Computer science accounted for the largest publication share (86.99 %), followed by engineering (30.69 %), mathematics (15.95 %), biochemistry, genetics & molecular biology (4.66 %), and several other disciplines. The top 10 organizations and 10 authors together accounted for 19.31 per cent and 2.71 per cent national publications share respectively and 29.78 per cent share and 6.85 per cent national citation share respectively during 2007-16. Top 10 journals accounted for 15.45 per cent share of the country output appearing in journal medium (1650 papers). India accounted for 24 highly cited papers, averaging to 162.46 citations per paper. These 24 highly cited papers involved the participation of 109 authors from 70 organizations, published in 15 journals.

The paper provides quantitative and qualitative description of mobile commerce research, as covered in Scopus database during 2007-16. Mobile commerce research registered 7.29 per cent growth, and averaged 3.78 citations per paper. The global output in mobile commerce research in 10 years was 4803 publications but just top 10 countries contributed bulk of (80.66 %) global publications share and 90.39 per cent global citations share during the period. China (with 30.0 per cent global publications share) is the world leader in mobile commerce research, followed by USA (15.59 % share) and others. The paper also provide information on their relative citation index, their international collaborative publications share, activity index of sub-fields in mobile commerce research and bibliographic characteristics of 25 highly cited papers. The paper also reports on top 20 most productive global organisations and authors in mobile commerce research and describes their characteristics on a series of parameters. The study concludes that mobile commerce research is still in its early stages of growth and development and not growing fast, as fast as mobile penetration. There is a need to provide institutional funding and policy support to R&D institutions to accelerate research growth, build and strengthen their research capacities, and encourage national and international research collaboration in this important area.

The paper examines 13021 Indian publications on mobile research during 2007-16,as covered in Scopus database. The Indian publications were downloaded using a search strategy which uses the search term ‘mobile*’ in the two tags, namely ‘keyword tag’ and ‘Article Title tag’ and restricting it to the India in ‘country tag’ and period 2007-16 in ‘date range tag’. The Indian mobile research output experiencing an annual average growth rate of 22.64 per cent, global share of 5.88 per cent, citation impact of 2.11 and international collaborative publication share of 11.28 per cent during 2007-16. Computer Science, among subjects, contributed the largest publication share (74.61), engineering (38.32%), mathematics and social sciences (6.94% and 6.54), etc. during 2007-16. Amongst14 subfields identified in India’s mobile research, mobile networks contributed the largest publication share (53.19%), followed by mobile telecommunication systems (35.09%), Mobile communication (29.22%), mobile ad hoc networks (26.86%), mobile security (20.62%), etc. The most productive 20 Indian organisations and authors together contributed 25.64 per cent and 5.11 per cent share to the overall publications output of India in mobile research during 2007-16.The top 20 journals contributed 23.0 per cent share to the Indian journal output during 2007-16. Only 14 publications have registered citations from 109 to 548 and these together received3259 citations, with 232.79 citations per paper. Conclude that India is still not a leading country in the world on mobile research both in terms of quantity and quality of research. In view of strategic and global importance and to increase the research output and quality, the Indian Government needs to identify this area as one of the national priority area, involving much larger R&D investments and trained manpower and also increase international collaboration with leading mobile research hubs.

The study attempts to analyse research contributions of the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in physics and astronomy during the period 2006-15. The data for this study was extracted from Scopus. The study analyses the year-wise research productivity, national and international collaborations, top collaborating institutions, most prolific authors, journals used for communication, most preferred journals for publication, number of citations received by the University during the period under study. This paper analyses that the university has published 652 papers in physics and astronomy. The University had registered the average citation impact per paper of 7.01 per cent and 6 publications received 51 to 100 citations. Among the Indian universities, University stood at 23rd rank in term of publications output (652) and h-index (29), 16th rank in average citation per paper (7.01 per cent) and 18th rank in share of high cited papers (1 per cent) and 19th rank in terms of international collaborative papers (27.45 per cent) during 2006-15. Around 68.71 per cent publications of the University in physics and astronomy were in national collaboration between GNDU and several other Indian organisations. The study clearly indicates that journals are the most preferred form of publication to communicate research works by the researchers.

The study attempts to map the trends across the scholarly publications published in the field of “Fake News.” Data were collected from one of the extensive indexing/abstracting services, Web of Science, the top indexing/abstracting service and a proprietary of Clarivate Analytics. The study reveals that the research on “Fake News” is mainly published as “articles” in English. Research on “Fake News” in terms of publication count and citation score shows a steady increase. “Lecture Notes in Computer Science,” “Professional De La Informacion,” and “New Media Society” stay as the prioritised platforms for researchers to publish their research. “Computer Science,” “Communication,” “Engineering,” “Information Science and Library Science,” and “Government Law” are the prioritised research domains in which research on “Fake News” stays a high priority. The highest number of articles are published from the U.S.A. The U.S.A., England, and Germany have the highest collaboration (links) with other countries, and the USA-China collaboration ranks first. Arizona State University is the top-ranked institute with the highest number of articles published on “Fake News,” and “Pennycook G” stays the most productive author. Six hundred ninety funding agencies support the funded research papers with The National Science Foundation N.S.F., U.S.A. as the top sponsor.

This paper aims to measure the extent to which Bangladesh-based Library and Information Science (LIS) researchers have published in leading LIS journals indexed by Web of Science (WoS) and SCOPUS. To answer this question, bibliographic information from LIS publications published in leading bibliographic databases from 1971 to 2020 were examined. Data from 266 LIS publication were collected, compiled and cleaned. VOSviewer software was used to carry out the science mapping of bibliometric networks. From the data it was evidenced that joint authorship and international collaboration have been increasing during this time frame. Authors from 20 countries have published in collaboration with Bangladeshi LIS researchers. Faculty members and the Department of Information Science and Library Management (ISLM) of Dhaka University became the most prolific authors and LIS Department in Bangladesh. The data compiled and findings will benefit current Bangladeshi LIS researchers and practitioners to assess areas of focus by highlighting, what they have, what they lack, and how they could grow to get direction for future research.

The present study aims to study the research articles published in DESIDOC Journal of Library & Information Technology during 2008-2017 with a gender perspective. Influence of gender was assessed at individual and collaborative levels, professional engagement and citedness. The findings reveal increase in the overall presentation of male authors i.e. 401 (75.38 %) compared to female authors 131 (24.62 %) of total of 532 authors. 345 (64.85 %) are multiple authored articles compared to 187 (35.15 %) single authored papers. Collaborative pattern of male- male authors with 205 (38.83 %) articles, followed by articles contributed by male solo authors with 160 (30.08 %) authors, outnumbers all other collaborative authorship patterns. A chi square value of (x2 = 11.801, p = 0.003) shows significant difference in the number of contributions by both male and female authors engaged in different LIS profession. The findings prove that men are over represented in the whole LIS community.

This paper critically analyses 239 scholarly communications published in the inaugural five volumes of Journal of Informetrics (JOI) to examine growth of literature, types of communications, authorship pattern, collaboration trend, predominant research domains, etc. Subsequent analysis focuses on prolific contributors, degree of collaboration, and time-lag trend. Findings reveal that - publication output doubles over the study period as article publications increase considerably; though single-authored contributions were significant (30 %), majority of contributions were collaborated by two-authors (36 %), while average authorship accounts for 2.28 per communications. Degree of collaboration (DC) was impressive (0.699) but not overwhelming as research collaborations has emanated from 199 higher learning institutions of 32 countries across the globe. Ranking of prolific contributors has shown Prof. Egghe on the top followed by L Bornmann; R Rousseau and L Leydesdoff. Result also shows upward trend of keyword usage with an average of 4.55 per items, of which h-index, citation analysis, bibliometrics, g-index, etc, expectedly predominates. Scholarly nature of source journal has been further ascertained from increasing citations and reference usage trend. Moreover, growing hardness of the field has been attributed to JOI due to the increasing usage of tables and figures. Along with the teaching, publications and research output, national and international funding has become essential criterion for benchmarking and performance measurement of the university. To stand and compete with stakeholders, it is essential to carefully monitor the impact of university publication over global research. The role of the library becomes more important to take a lead in monitoring and management of the university publications. A library needs to gather, organize and maintain publication in a standard format and take appropriate measure to disseminate research with global community. Further, it is essential to assess the research impact of the publication through different methodologies such as bibliometrics or web metrics. The purpose of this paper is to develop a database of university publication with the acronym ‘JPubDB’ (JUIT Publication Database: available at http://juit.ac.in/jpubdb), in order to collect, analyze and organized at one place and market the research publication with global community. The provisions have been made to link each publication with each faculty profile and department in a standard citation style, assess the citation count through Google Scholar, sharing of publication through social networking tools, and if the full text of any publication is available, that can be downloadable in copyright free mode.

CCS Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) is among the top ten agricultural universities of India according to ICAR ranking 2016-17. The present study has been undertaken to find out the publication trends in this university during 2001-2015. The study mainly focus on year-wise research output, major subject categories, national and international collaborations, top journals for publications, most prolific authors, citations pattern and highly cited papers of CCSHAU. The results indicate that among the top ten agricultural universities of India, CCSHAU stands at fourth position in terms of publications and sixth position in terms of citations. It has collaborated with many institutions at national and international level in its research publications.

The published articles in leading Indian LIS journals during 2012-2017 have been mapped to depict the authorship pattern and collaboration trend in LIS domain of India. The study assessed the collaborative authorship trend on using different parameters like journal wise pattern, year wise collaboration, co-authorship index, ranked list of most productive authors and the level of collaboration. The Lotka’s law on author productivity has also been tested to confirm the applicability of the law to the present data set. It is found that two-authored papers are predominant (48%) in LIS publications and the collaborated articles of multi-authorships received greater average citations. Besides, in Indian LIS discipline, maximum collaboration occurs in intra-institutional level and inter-institutions within state level. Therefore, it is recommended that the LIS schools across the country should also consider inter- departmental collaboration to produce more quality works on emerging and innovative research areas.
