The Canadian government will request the defense and ship building companies to indicate their interest in a multi-billion-dollar program to build a fleet of supply and support ships for the Navy. The government will be sending out a letter of interest requesting that the firms state whether they intend to bid on the 2.1 billion Canadian Dollar ($1.7 billion) Joint Support Ship (JSS) program, which also includes a second contract, valued at 4 billion Canadian dollars, to provide in-service support for the ships for 30 years.
