In this article, the author has presented views on an article 'DNA barcoding: an exercise in futility or utility' published in May, 2007. He discusses the importance of undertaking DNA barcoding of plants and animals for conservation and commerce in India. An analysis showing the number of articles published during 1999-2010 on DNA barcoding is also presented.

The article presents a study which analyzes the association between crown gall resistance and anti-cancer activity in plants from database of 1193 species of dicot plants. Based on two datasets, the authors performed a contingency chi-square test of association between anti-cancer activity and crown gall resistance. The results of the study indicate that plants with anti-cancer activity appear to have higher proportion of species resistant to crown gall than randomly selected species.
