The article focuses on the ex-situ conservation of Alectra chitrakutensis Rau Prasad and R. D. Dixit (Scrophulariaceae), a root parasite on white-flowered Vitex negundo L. (Verbenaceae) which is an endemic plant found in India. The species is used to treat of leprosy, constipation, malaria, edemic swelling and as a tonic, anthelmintic and blood purifier. It is noted that A. chitrakutensis is a total root parasite making V. negundo difficult to grow using ex situ methods.
