To assess the awareness about and attitude towards the complications of Cesarean section in the antenatal and postnatal period among women in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This cross-sectional study was conducted between January 2020 and September 2020, involving 507 women in the antenatal and postnatal period in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Data were obtained via online surveys. The questionnaire addressed the knowledge about short and long-term complications. Results: Most participants received a poor knowledge score for the awareness of Cesarean section complications (45.4%), and only 12.6% had good knowledge. Most participants were in the age group of 32-42 years. Most participants were university-educated and had an excellent socioeconomic status. A statistically significant relationship was detected between the age group and the participant's level of knowledge regarding Cesarean sections (P = 0.030) and between the level of knowledge and experiencing Cesarean delivery by maternal request (P = 0.029). The study concluded that pregnant women had poor awareness regarding the complications of Cesarean sections. Most participants had a negative attitude toward Cesarean deliveries and preferred vaginal delivery.

Chorioamnionitis (CA) is a common pregnancy complication characterized by inflammation of the placental membranes and chorion. To our knowledge, there are limited studies evaluating the awareness of CA and its complications among women in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This study aimed to determine the awareness of married women in Jeddah toward CA and its complications. This cross-sectional study was conducted between March 2021 and August 2021. It involved 406 women who were or have been married in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Data were obtained via an online survey and analyzed using IBM SPSS Statistics version 24 (IBM Corp., Armonk, NY). Different statistical tests were used for data analysis, including percentages, mean, frequency, and chi-square. Content validity and reliability were checked. Based on a woman's knowledge score, the score was classified into three levels: good knowledge level (score: 9-12), fair knowledge level (score: 5-8), and poor knowledge level (score: 0-4).Of the total number of women who participated in the study, most of them had a poor knowledge score about CA complications (49.95%), and only 8.1% had good knowledge. Among the women, 25% had previously heard about CA, while only 2.5% were diagnosed with CA, and 50% of these women delivered by cesarean section. Analysis showed a significant relationship between women who had CA and their birth method (p = 0.000). However, there was a nonsignificant difference between the females' knowledge and their age (p = 0.297), or their level of education (p = 0.099).The study concluded that there was a poor level of knowledge regarding CA and its complications among women who experienced pregnancy.

This study aimed to investigate the knowledge and attitude of the public in Saudi Arabia toward the concept of surface decontamination during the COVID-19 pandemic. A cross-sectional, web-based study was conducted over six months, from February 2021 to July 2021. We included adult Saudi and non-Saudi males and females living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Results: Six hundred and twenty-six responses from Saudi (92.7%) and non-Saudi (7.3%) participants with a median age of 24 years and interquartile range (IQR) of 21-29 years were received. Regarding knowledge level, 32.10% of the participants had good knowledge of respiratory virus transmission, and only 3.4% had good knowledge of decontamination products. Overall, 58.1% of the participants had a positive attitude toward decontamination products, and 28% had a negative attitude. Older participants, females, and participants who received their information from the Ministry of Health had higher odds of having a positive attitude toward disinfectant (OR = 1.022, 95% CI: 1.004 to 1.039, p = 0.013), (OR = 3.05, 95% CI: 2.08 to 4.47, p0.001), and (OR = 2.95, 95% CI: 1.44 to 6.05, p = 0.003), respectively. Conclusion: The current evidence suggests that the knowledge in the general population of Saudi Arabia is low regarding the transmission of COVID-19 infection and disinfectant products. The prevalence of using decontamination products and attitude toward it is average. Continuous awareness campaigns are required to increase the public's awareness toward such products to change the population's attitude and practice, improve the prevention, and reduce the spread of the infection and its related misconception.

Abdominal ultrasound is a non-invasive, relatively inexpensive, and widely available diagnostic modality in family medicine settings.Our study aimed to identify the most common indications for requesting abdominal ultrasounds by family physicians, determine the frequency of abdominal ultrasound with abnormal findings, identify the most common findings, and determine patients' characteristics associated with abnormal findings.This retrospective chart-based study was conducted from January 2020 to June 2020 to analyze patients' abdominal ultrasounds reports requested by family physicians in 2019 at King Khalid University Hospital (KKUH), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.We assessed abdominal ultrasound reports of 1,113 patients. There were 620 (55.7%) female patients. The mean age and body mass index (BMI) were 46.35 years ± 15.04 and 29.33 kg/mAbnormal findings were more prevalent in our study compared with other studies. Abnormal findings were more common among males and older age groups. We recommend future studies on patients from community-based family medicine settings, and to examine the association of abnormal findings with patient-centered endpoints. Finally, disseminating the results of this study will inform family physicians with the most common abnormal abdominal ultrasound findings, and will enhance the discussion with patients undergoing an abdominal ultrasound examination.

ObjectiveTo compare the outcomes of coblation versus bipolar in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy.MethodsA systematic review and meta-analysis were performed as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) Guidelines and an electronic search of information was conducted to identify all Randomized Controlled Trials (RCTs) comparing the outcomes of coblation versus bipolar in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy. Intraoperative bleeding, reactionary hemorrhage, delayed hemorrhage and post-operative pain were primary outcome measures. Secondary outcome measures included return to normal diet, effects on tonsillar bed, operation time and administration of analgesia. Fixed and random effects models were used for the analysis.ResultsSeven studies enrolling 1328 patients were identified. There was a significant difference between coblation and bipolar groups in terms of delayed hemorrhage (Odds Ratio [OR] = 0.25, P = 0.0007) and post-operative pain (standardized mean difference [MD] = -2.13, P = 0.0007). Intraoperative bleeding (MD = -43.26, P = 0.11) and reactionary hemorrhage did not show any significant difference. For secondary outcomes, coblation group had improved outcomes in terms of administration of analgesia, diet and tonsillar tissue recovery and thermal damage. No significant difference was reported in terms of operation time.ConclusionsCoblation is a superior option when compared to bipolar technique for pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy as it improves post-operative pain and delayed hemorrhage and does not worsen intraoperative bleeding and reactionary hemorrhage.Highlights-Coblation tonsillectomy was less painful than bipolar diathermy.-Coblation tonsillectomy was associated with less delayed hemorrhage than bipolar diathermy.-Tonsillar tissue recovery, thermal damage and return to normal diet were better in the coblation group.

The objective of this study was to compare the outcomes of extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) versus ultrasound therapy (UST) in plantar fasciitis. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed. An electronic search identifying studies comparing ESWT and UST for plantar fasciitis was conducted. Primary outcomes were morning and activity pain, functional impairment, and the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scale score. Secondary outcomes included the fascial thickness, primary efficacy success rate, activity limitations, pain intensity, and satisfaction. Seven studies enrolling 369 patients were identified. No significant difference was found between ESWT and UST for functional impairment (mean difference [MD] = -2.90, P = 0.22), AOFAS scale score (MD = 35, P = 0.20), and pain in the first steps in the morning (MD = -4.72, P = 0.39). However, there was a significant improvement in pain during activity for the ESWT group (MD = -1.36, P = 0.005). For secondary outcomes, ESWT had improved results in terms of primary efficacy success rate, activity limitations, and patient satisfaction. The reduction of plantar fascia thickness showed no significant difference. Pain intensity after treatment had varied results amongst included studies. In conclusion, ESWT is superior to UST for plantar fasciitis as it improves pain activity and intensity, primary efficacy success rate, and activity limitations.

Uterine lipoleiomyoma is a rare benign neoplasm that falls under the umbrella of uterine leiomyoma. Upon histological examination, leiomyoma is primarily composed of smooth muscle cells of the uterus. Whereas, lipoleiomyoma reveals a characteristic pattern of mature adipocytes interspersed in uterine smooth muscles. This paper is discussing a case of a 60-year-old postmenopausal grand multiparous woman who presented with postmenopausal bleeding. A primary diagnosis of leiomyoma was made, however, histopathological diagnosis revealed its rare variant, lipoleiomyoma.

Introduction Non-specific low back pain (LBP) is a complex and multifactorial health problem. Evidence has shown that LBP is an important occupational hazard and nurses are particularly at high risk. While several studies have addressed the prevalence of LBP worldwide, the prevalence of LBP in Saudi Arabia remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to estimate the prevalence and associated factors of LBP among nurses in the Qassim region, Saudi Arabia. Methods This was a multicenter cross-sectional study carried out in four major public hospitals in the Qassim region. A total of 323 nurses were recruited through a two-stage sampling method. A previously validated questionnaire was used to gather data. The main outcome measures were; LBP prevalence during working life, demographic factors, lifestyle factors, work-related factors, and psychological factors. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was used to determine factors independently associated with LBP. Results The study showed that LBP prevalence was 65.6% (n=212). Over one-third of the study, participants sought treatment for LBP (n=82, 38.7%). Age and the type of ward were found significantly associated with LBP [adjusted odds ratios (aOR): 0.39; 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.19, 0.77; p value=0.007] & (aOR: 0.36; 95% CI: 0.15, 0.86; p-value =0.02), respectively. However, gender, working hours, number of patients, stress, and smoking were not identified as LBP risk factors in this study. Conclusion The findings of this study suggest that LBP is a highly prevalent occupational health problem among nurses in Qassim. Young nurses 20-30 years are more likely to suffer from LBP, while nurses working in the general surgery wards have a lower risk for LBP in this study. On-the-job training is essential particularly for new and young nurses on proper body mechanics when mobilizing patients or lifting heavy equipment. In addition, there is a need for evidence-based interventions to improve the workplace environment for nurses in hospitals in order to lower LBP prevalence.

The objective of this study was to quantitatively compare outcomes between standard excision (SE) and Mohs micrographic surgery (MMS) for basal cell carcinoma (BCC). A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed as per the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses (PRISMA) Guidelines and a search of electronic databases was conducted to identify all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies comparing the outcomes of SE versus MMS for BCC. The primary outcome was the recurrence rate for primary and recurrent BCC. The secondary outcomes included the cost of treatment, aesthetic results, the rate of incomplete excision, and the surgical defect size post excision. Five studies enrolling 2060 lesions were identified. There was a statistically significant difference between MMS and SE groups in terms of recurrence rate for primary BCCs (odds ratio (OR) = 0.44, confidence interval (CI) = 0.16 to 0.97, P = 0.04) and recurrent BCCs (OR = 0.33, CI = 0.12 to 0.97, P = 0.04). For secondary outcomes, MMS had improved results compared with SE, except for mean cost. In conclusion, both primary and secondary BCCs treated with MMS have a reduced recurrence rate and defect size thus simplifying reconstruction. However, due to higher costs and operative time attributed to MMS, it should be reserved for high-risk BCCs.

Herein, we compare the outcomes of polyurethane and calcium alginate dressings for split-thickness skin graft (STSG) donor sites. A systematic review and meta-analysis were conducted with a search of electronic databases to identify all randomised controlled trials (RCTs) and observational studies comparing the outcomes of polyurethane dressing versus calcium alginate for STSG donor sites. Primary outcomes were pain intensity, convenience for staff and patients, and adverse effects (namely, excessive exudate, infection rate, and hematoma). Secondary outcome measures included the assessment of healing, dressing changes, cosmetic appearance, and cost. Fixed and random-effect models were used for the analysis. Four RCTs enrolling 127 subjects were identified. There was no significant difference between polyurethane and calcium alginate in terms of pain intensity on Day 1 (mean difference (MD) 0.13, P = 0.80) and Day 5 (MD = 0.20, P = 0.38), as well as the ease of application (odds ratio (OR) = 3.08, P = 0.47). However, there was a statistically significant improvement in patient comfort, favouring the polyurethane group (OR = 44.11, P < 0.00001). In addition, no statistically significant differences were noted in terms of adverse effects between the two dressings. In terms of cost, the calcium gluconate dressing had an overall higher cost compared to polyurethane. Polyurethane is a more favourable dressing compared to calcium alginate for STSG donor sites in terms of patient comfort, healing, and cosmetic outcomes. However, comparable results were noted in terms of pain intensity, ease of application, and adverse effects profile. Cost-effectiveness analysis studies are required to justify its routine use.

Background The multifactorial nature of rosacea and chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) pathogenesis complicates the achievement of satisfactory treatment outcomes. 13C urea breath test (UBT) has been identified as an accurate, non-invasive, and quick procedure to detect the presence of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) with high sensitivity and specificity. Objective In this study, we aim to assess the correlation between H. pylori infection and rosacea and CSU patients. Methods A cross-sectional, observational study was conducted on patients with rosacea and CSU in the dermatology clinic at King Khalid University Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. History and physical examination were performed by a dermatologist. H. pylori 13C-UBT detection was performed in all subjects. Results In total, 114 patients were included in this current study, with 41 rosacea and 73 urticaria patients. The vast majority of our subjects were females (96.5%). The mean (±SD) age was 42.3 (±12.7). More than half (58.8%) of the examined samples were positive for 13C-UBT; however, positive results were significantly higher in the rosacea patients (73.2%) compared to the urticaria group (50.7%), with a p-value of 0.019. Conclusion Our findings underline the significant association of H. pylori with rosacea and CSU regardless of the presence or absence of gastrointestinal symptoms. We thus recommend the inclusion of H. pylori testing in the routine workup of CSU and rosacea patients.
