The article presents a study which examines whether the negative glacier mass balance has pushed the glaciers to change their velocity. It notes that there are five regions being examined include Pamir, Penny Ice Cap, and Alaska Range. It reveals that mapped glaciers in the said regions with negative mass balance have slowed their speed at an average rate per decade of 8 percent in the Caucasus, 43 percent in the Pamir, 25 percent on Penny Ice Cap, and 11 percent in the Alaska Range.
