The article presents a review on New Zealand's economic policy as of November 2007. The government has released a white paper on energy strategy until the year 2050. The white paper dictates that ministers are allowed to use special powers to fast-track the planning, consent and environmental assessment process required under the Resources Management Act (RMA). The government's plan to limit fossil-fuel power generation also raises electricity generation capacity shortage and could raise conflicts with privately-owned power companies.
