This article reports that the White House now begins its campaign to get the presidency of George W. Bush back on track, in the aftermath of the withdrawal of the nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court and the five-count indictment of Vice President Richard Cheney's former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby. Compared with other second-term presidents at this point in their tenure, Bush's approval ratings fall far below average. So, it is the nomination of 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Samuel Alito to replace Miers that begins the president's attempt to boost his sagging approval ratings. Still, this pick represents a strategy of necessity, not one of choice.
