While communication scientists have made fast advancements in the computer-assisted analysis of large quantities of media data, most research has been focused on monolingual text, most often English-language text. This study works towards the needs of those interested in the computer-assisted analysis of multilingual news media content. For this purpose, we present and systematically compare different strategies for the construction of multilingual dictionaries. Their classification results are contrasted to each other and to those of English monolingual dictionaries that is applied to a translated text corpus. Human manually coded news articles serve as validation baseline. Interested in the news media discourse on human migration in seven European countries, we develop and provide validated dictionaries for the measurement of migration frames in seven languages (Spanish, English, German, Swedish, Polish, Hungarian, Romanian).
