Abstract

Epistaxis can occur for many different reasons in horses. Determining the source of haemorrhage is crucial to minimise the risk of serious and potentially life-threatening disease going untreated. Owners frequently over-estimate the volume or significance of blood loss, so care should be taken to verify the exact nature and quantity of any blood loss. Common causes include: facial trauma exercise-induced pulmonary haemorrhage (EIPH) idiopathic nasal haemorrhage.
