Abstract

Medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL) reconstruction is a relatively new surgical technique for the treatment of recurrent patellar instability and dislocation. Radiologic findings following MPFL reconstruction are not well described in the existing literature. Here, we review the anatomy and biomechanics of the MPFL, review imaging findings following double-bundle MPFL reconstruction, and show examples of complications arising from reconstruction. Abstract

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) consists of two anatomic and functional bundles, the anteromedial and posterolateral bundle. Depending on the mechanism of injury, there are different injury patterns, demonstrating a wide spectrum of partial ACL tears. Single bundle partial ACL tears can be treated with augmentation. Theoretically, sparing the intact parts of the ACL may increase vascularization and proprioception and may result in better stability and improved clinical outcome for the patient. In this article, we review the anatomy and function of ACL bundles and demonstrate cases of single bundle ACL tear with subsequent augmentation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Purpose The purpose was to evaluate feasibility of bone and joint segmentations from three-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging (3D MRI). Methods Segmented joint models from 3D MRI data set were obtained for 42 patients. Blinded angular and joint space measurements were performed on 3D MRI model, two-dimensional (2D) MRI, and radiography (XR). Results Medial joint space was similar on both XR and 3D MRI ( P =.3). The XR measurements were statistically different but closer to 3D MRI for lateral patellar tilt angle, patellar tendon length, and lateral knee joint space, whereas 2D MRI measurements were closer to XR in terms of trochlear depth, sulcal angle, and patellar length. Conclusion 3D bone and joint segmentations are feasible from isotropic MRI data sets.

Abstract

A lobulated mass in the suprapatellar bursa of the knee is presented with MRI findings simulating the features of focal pigmented villonodular synovitis (PVS). Microscopic examination demonstrated a nonspecific, inflammatory mass of hypertrophied synovium. The MRI features of various forms of synovitis are reviewed from recent literature and differential considerations of a suprapatellar, intrabursal mass are discussed.
