The Clinical Hemorheology & Microcirculation journal has established the A.L. Copley Best Paper Prize to recognize the best article published each year. The prize is named after Alfred Lewin Copley, the journal's founding editor. The winning paper for 2022 is titled "COVID-19 hemodynamic and thrombotic effect on the eye microcirculation after hospitalization: A quantitative case-control study" by Aristotle Koutsiaris and colleagues. The study investigates the impact of COVID-19 on the eye microcirculation of patients who received thromboprophylaxis after hospital discharge. The findings suggest that COVID-19 significantly reduces blood velocity and increases microthrombosis in the eye, potentially contributing to long COVID and indicating the presence of an unknown coagulation factor.
