The investigation of uveitis epidemiology is important because its occurrence, aetiology, severity and outcome are affected by genetic, racial, geographical, social and environmental factors.1,2 After obtaining institutional review board approval, we examined the clinical and epidemiological profiles of uveitis between January 2004 and October 2013 at the Uveitis Service of Hospital São Geraldo/Hospital das Clínicas da UFMG, a public university-based referral centre in Southeastern Brazil. Changing patterns of uveitis were observed, with increasing prevalence of toxoplasmosis, herpes simplex/zoster and syphilis, and decreasing tuberculosis, FUS and HIV-related uveitis. Posterior uveitis was followed by anterior uveitis, panuveitis and intermediate uveitis, consistent with other reports from Brazil.5 Table 2 presents the demographic and clinical data of uveitis patients seen at the same institution between 1970 and 19936 compared with those from the present series (2004-2013).
