The importance of High-Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems is growing due to the rising trends of digitalization, decarbonization, and distributed generation in the energy industry. These systems provide an efficient means of transmitting large amounts of power over long distances, while also connecting renewable energy sources to the power grid and balancing three-phase grids. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies present a range of opportunities to address challenges in the energy industry. In this study, we propose a methodology to implement a VR and AR system for the energy electric company Eletronorte that facilitates visualization, navigation, and interaction with the arrangements and components of the HVDC system substations. The project involves developing modeling techniques to improve the representation of the components, updating preventive maintenance procedures, and creating a system monitoring environment using VR and AR, enabling engineering teams to interact with field teams and integrate real and virtual systems. VR simulations will provide a safe and controlled environment for training and testing, while AR simulations can be used to provide real-time guidance to technicians in the field. This paper reports a study on the User experience (UX) of STEM (e.g., Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) students using smart glasses and an interactive Augmented Reality (AR) educational app. The results show that the AR app provides a good UX, despite the presence of some form factor issues. Students' usability ratings for both the AR app and the smart glasses, are positively correlated with the students' perceived learning. 7. Digital Twin for Monitoring an Industrial Process Using Augmented Reality.

A Digital Twin (DT) is a virtual representation of a physical object which plays an important role in the digital transformation of industry, where an important requirement for intelligent manufacturing is cyber-physical integration. One of the objectives is to improve the performance of the real system using the information generated in the virtual part. The present paper shows the development of a low-cost DT used for monitoring the state of the process and the product development using augmented reality (AR) and free software for its configuration and programming. The design was tested in the MPS 500 classification station, which is a modular production station that has industrial sensors and actuators and was controlled with a Raspberry Pi (RPi) board responsible for sending data to the Firebase cloud to further show the DT in real-time in a mobile phone. Results show that with the help of the DT and AR, it is possible to automate industrial processes and monitor them from different places, collecting and analyzing data to achieve the implementation of solutions based on the data generated by the DT, enabling a greater level of digitalization and information to increase the efficiency and reliability of the processes. The development of 3D applications for consumption in browsers involves the use of the WebGL standard, whose performance determines the user experience and portability for mobile devices. In this context, this paper proposes to analyze the performance of a 3D application that uses the WebGL standard to run in browsers, taking into account mobile devices. Initial results show that the use of compression formats, connection speeds and browsers influence the loading times, performance and build size of the project. This paper presents a proposal to contribute to the safeguarding of endangered langues, such as the Náhuat language. We have designed and implemented Android mobile applications and a Náhuat augmented reality textbook which has marker images. Through the respective augmented reality mobile application, students can view 2D animations with audio of the Náhuat dialogues in a cartoon format. Two Nahuat-Spanish dictionary android mobile applications have also been developed, both to support the Náhuat textbook. All those resources will be used in public and private institutions of primery education, in rural areas and in the capital city of El Salvador, where the Náhuat language is taught. Augmented Reality (RA) is gaining more popularity in several fields of application in the last decades. In this sense, this research aims to develop a systematic mapping review to reveal how this technology has been applied in the sports scenario. To achieve this goal, the researchers developed a systematic mapping protocol that returned 250 primary studies after applying the search String on the indexers Scopus and Web of Sciences. The Data Collect phase followed applying the exclusion criteria, reaching a consolidated inclusion of 171 studies to be analyzed and synthesized to answer the research questions. This review condensed the state-of-the-art of AR and sports areas, such as the areas and applications researched, tools/frameworks, input and output interaction styles most used, research gaps, and most common types of research. Rip currents pose a threat to the safety of bathers at most beaches around the world. The proposed research includes the specification of a platform to empower the user to become active beach-safety agents. To achieve this strategic goal, a service design approach was implemented to conceptualize a solution for collecting data about potential hazards, including information about the status of active rip currents. The innovation is settled over the combination of immersive technologies (e.g., Augmented Reality) with visual data analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Mobile Augmented Reality mixed with a gamification strategy is also considered in the architectural design to specify a mobile tool that provides an interactive and gamified environment for promoting a safe beach experience. The presented approach also addresses a strategy to create a social movement challenging citizen to integrate and benefit from the services and informational artifacts provided by the Beach Safety Community (BSC). This article proposes the development of a 3D augmented reality app for mobile devices focused on staff training (training of operators) in the oil industry on the operation of Lease Automatic Custody Transfer Units (LACT Units). First, existing information about LACT Units was collected to define the basic and specific parameters for the virtual creation of a 3D model of the LACT Units (CAD files) which allows the visualization of the equipment and instruments commonly used in the LACT Units, also through the Unity 3D graphic engine a specific sequence of operation is defined attached to a real system. The application focuses on the recognition of P&ID through a smartphone allowing users to make changes in the variables involved in the process, e.g., pressure, temperature and flow, such that, if the user makes any changes to the variables, the system responds according to these changes based on mathematical models of the plant, achieving a more realistic experience between the user and the process. This article proposes the development of a virtual and augmented reality environment to assist in the assembly and maintenance of an unmanned aerial vehicle. Guard@Lis application was developed to ease the birdwatching activity. The main purpose was to support the discovery and identification of bird species along a trail, encouraging the preservation and protection of nature. To create a new bird observation perspective since augmented reality features were developed to enhance the experience of birdwatching, ensuring the chance to watch even the most elusive birds. Adding animated 3D models of some birds allows the observation of these species that, for several reasons, may not be easy to encounter in their natural habitat when the user is making the trail. The solution is composed of a multiplatform app and a back-office. It is prepared to create routes with hotspots and improve the bird species list. This first version was designed with a route in the city of Leiria, having specific points along the way, defined for the observation of certain species. Guard@Lis application intends to encourage the didactic and educational facets, so the whole development process of this application was to create a guide that allows users to be able to identify and list the number of bird species found. The advance of technology in the 21st century has brought about fundamental changes in the fusion of physical and technological reality. There are several benefits that have come with these technologies, it has improved the quality and experience of games, as well as it has managed to design and plan intelligent cities. Consequently, this work proposes to provide a better experience to the user with motor difficulties when using a text editor by creating a virtual reality environment that allows to alternate the entries to the system, that is to say, to add functionalities for the handling or control of the applications such as voice recognition or the fixed glance on some component. HoloLens is a growing technology that has become popular with the emergence of several applications and thanks to the combination of physical reality in a virtual environment. With Augmented Reality, learning can be more effective through annotations and interactivity when seeing and manipulating the content. For this purpose, different technologies of the existing devices were analysed in order to elicit the characteristics of devices in order the adapt their usage to a specific context of training solutions. 23. Augmented reality and sensory technology for treatment of anxiety disorders.

This solution aims at promoting well-being through Augmented Reality (AR) Sensing Based Technology, by developing a predictive system for treatment of specific phobias. Treatment of such mental disorders involves exposure therapy, which is usually conducted on a gradual and systematic basis, allowing modifications in the therapeutic setting with different exposure sessions. To meet these conditions, the therapist needs to evaluate the patient's responses in the previous sessions to define the content of the subsequent sessions. Therefore, we intend to use the psycho-physiological responses from the participants during the sessions through peripheral (i.e. ECG, EDA, EMG) and central nervous system responses (i.e. EEG) associated with emotional expression, as well as the participatory input to a visual analog scale (i.e. tactile feedback input system, avoiding huge hands movements and interruptions during carrying session) as an indicator of the subjective experience of emotions during the session (i.e. figures with different moods). This data will be also used to define the contents of each session, through a decision algorithm based on the history of the previous sessions for the same individual. All data resulting from this application will be recorded in a database to create individual reports on the session outcomes. The hardware to be used for psycho-physiological recording will be the Bitalino system (Plux) and the software for the AR development the NyARToolkit and Unity 3D software. We plan to carry out a pilot study with data collection in the laboratory setting to test the module related to the integration of psycho-physiological and participatory data in the AR system. In this paper we present the first version of the PlanetarySystemGO project, an evolution of SolarSystemGO, a Mobile Augmented Reality game previously created with the Unity3D/Vuforia game engine. While both projects aim at providing awareness of several Astronomy concepts, for PlanetarySystemGO a web based back-end system was implemented, developed under the .NET technology, that allows the instructor to manage several aspects of the game. Augmented Reality (AR) is a technology that elevates the possibilities of current Mobile Applications by superposing digital content to real world objects. The mobile devices that run these applications are increasingly powerful regarding their computational resources, allowing widespread adoption of the AR paradigms. The system presented can be enjoyed by players of all ages, but our main target are school children and young adults, as an application tool or even for learning purposes. Augmented Reality (AR) complements perception and interaction with a semi-real world and allows the user to observe a virtual environment enhanced with additional information assisted by a computer. The use of this technology has been introduced in multiple areas especially in education for spatial intelligence development and students' learning improvement. This paper describes the development of a single didactic material representing Ecuador's historical content through an application of AR in order to improve teaching and learning processes. It shows historical facts on virtual models by superimposing 2D and 3D dynamic graphics which were generated in real time; and description of recognition marks design were utilized to create AR. Thus, it also presents level of acceptance and perception on students using this technology. Augmented Reality (AR) is an increasingly prevalent subject with various areas of application. This work explores the results of a survey especially developed to document the ease of acceptance of possible characteristics to implement in mobile outdoor applications enhanced with AR. This survey has been devised for a better assessment of user preferences regarding the use of AR in outdoor scenarios. Preference level has been evaluated based on indicators from models concerning various existing and important models. The paper presents the survey results about the preference level in relation the targeted questions and proposes a conceptual framework for feedback on AR technology acceptance. Mobile devices, such as smartphones or tablets, have becoming increasingly performant and affordable, and presently are available to most children and teenagers, leading to the development of a multitude of apps for these devices. In this paper we present the preliminary implementation of project SolarSystemGO, a Mobile Augmented Reality game created with the Unity3D game engine, coupled with Vuforia for the Augmented component, that runs on Android, with Astronomy (and the Solar System in particular) in mind, aimed at providing awareness of the vastness and proportionality of the Solar System objects, such as the Sun and the planets. The hardware requirements of SolarSystemGO, namely the existence of gyroscope in the mobile device, required the modification of the interaction with the Vuforia layer, in order to provide a more realistic and performant gaming experience. The overall purpose of this project is to test the impact and potential benefits of Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies (AR&VR) to improve maintenance operation in industrial equipment. The main function for a Flapper valve of a Fuller-Kinyon type M pump is to prevent that the air generated to convey the bulk material through a conveying pipe flows inside of the material chute through the rotating screw. If this will occur, the material flow will decrease or even stop, causing a reduction of the pump capacity. Thus, it is necessary to maintain calibrated each flapper valve in the plant. This process of maintenance is done ten times per month, or when necessary, and it needs the pump to be shut down, taking up to two hours to finish the complete process. For this reason, an augmented reality application is being developed, aiming to reduce the consumed time by the maintenance process. Using this application, it is expected to dedicate less time training the new personnel responsible for the maintaining process, displaying tridimensional models, animations, images and text information that would simplify the instructions shown in a printed manual and adding an interactive environment between the users and the information displayed. A mobile device either a tablet or a smartphone is to be used as the hardware that will run the application, allowing the user to take it right to the working area, either in a workshop or directly in field. The information displayed includes CAD models of the pump and its components as well as animations illustrating the instructions to follow in each step of the process. Also, the right tool to use in each step will be indicated following by security warnings when needed. This project was developed from knowledge and experiences gathered among the different previous AR projects developed at ITESM.
