Introducción: El angioma de células litorales es un nuevo subtipo de tumor vascular, el cual ha sido reportado con poca frecuencia en todo el mundo. Se asocia con neoplasias malignas viscerales y otras condiciones inmunitarias. Caso clínico: Varón caucásico de 70 años con antecedentes de síndrome mielodisplásico de 6 años de evolución, que fue investigado por esplenomegalia y pancitopenia. Los exámenes radiológicos e histopatológicos revelaron un angioma de células litorales y se realizó una esplenectomía abierta. El paciente tuvo una recuperación posoperatoria sin incidentes. Conclusión: El angioma de células litorales es un tumor raro, con presentación atípica y frecuentemente asociado con otras neoplasias malignas o condiciones inmunitarias. El diagnóstico es un desafío y, hasta ahora, la esplenectomía es el tratamiento estándar.

An 83-year-old female patient presented to the Emergency Department with shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing and left-sided chest pain following a vomiting attempt. A rupture in the left lower third of the esophagus, with hydropneumothorax, pneumomediastinum, and subcutaneous emphysema was revealed by chest X-ray, thoracic computed tomography scan, and contrast esophagography. The patient was successfully treated conservatively with closed thoracostomy, intravenous fluids, parenteral nutrition, and broad-spectrum antibiotics coverage. Aim: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effect of oral administration of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in experimental ischemic enteritis in rats., Methods: Forty Wistar rats were submitted to control narrowing of the superior mesenteric artery and were divided in two groups: N3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, which received a high-molecular polymer solution of artificial total enteral nutrition enriched with n-3 fatty acids and CONTROL which received a high-molecular polymer solution of artificial total enteral nutrition., Results: Reduction of the animals' body weight was observed in both groups, but there was no difference between the two groups. Regarding the level of cytokines interleukin (IL)-1b, IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor a (TNF-a) there was no statistically significant difference between the two groups. Ischemic lesions to the small bowel mucosa were observed in both groups. A statistically significant difference in the extent of intestinal lesions was observed between the two groups with the animals that received enteral nutrition enriched with n-3 fatty acid developing fewer lesions., Conclusion: Enteral nutrition enriched with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids reduces the mucosal lesions caused by mesenteric ischemia compared to standard enteral nutrition, by modifying the local, but not the systemic, immune, and inflammatory response.

Objective: The objective of the study was to estimate the effects of synbiotics on laboratory, macroscopic, and histopathologic features in dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) experimental colitis., Materials and Methods: A total of 40 Wistar rats received 5% of DSS in their drinking water for 8 days to induce ulcerative colitis (UC). Eight rats were sacrificed to confirm the presence of UC. The remaining rats were randomly assigned to two groups: the synbiotics group, which received synbiotics once per day and the control group, which received tap water for another 8 days., Results: On the 8 th day of DSS administration animals developed UC with bloody diarrhea. In the majority of the hematologic variables studied (hemoglobin [HB], red blood cells, platelets, mean corpuscular volume, and mean corpuscular HB), in bodyweight and histopathologic colitis score there was no significant difference between groups. However, the synbiotics group, compared to control, presented a significantly greater colon length on the 4 th day, significantly increased hematocrit (HT) on the 8 th day, and a significantly decreased number of myeloperoxidase positive cells on the 8 th day. Furthermore, there was a trend toward histopathological and clinical improvement., Conclusions: Administration of synbiotics in the experimental UC results in an attenuation of mucosal inflammatory neutrophil infiltration and an increase in HT., (Copyright: © 2020 Permanyer.)
