Objective To explore the efficacy of plastic suture technique in the emergency surgical treatment of superficial facial trauma. Methods The clinical data of patients with superficial facial trauma underwent plastic suture technique treatment from January 2012 to January 2018 were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative, seventh-day and sixth-month postoperative photographs were taken. The baseline information, type of trauma, location, length and depth of wounds, details of operative procedures, complications, appearance of scars and patients' satisfaction were recorded. Results A total of 720 patients were included in this study. The age of patients ranged from 2 to 76-year-old, with an average of 17.89-year-old. The follow-up period ranged from 6 to 11 months, with an average of (8.15± 3.21) months. The types of trauma were laceration (93.75%), contusion (2.50%), animal bite wounds (1.25%), human bite wounds (0.42%) and other wounds (2.08%). The forehead (20%), eyebrow and upper eyelid (20%), mandible and chin (20%) were the most common injury locations, followed by lip (15%), cheek (10%), nose (5%), temporal region (5%) and other parts (5%). The average length of wounds was (3.25±2.17) cm. The wounds of forehead and chin were deep to bony surface and other parts were deep to subcutaneous layer. The incidence rate of complications was 0.30%. The postoperative scar was not obvious in most patients. The efficacy was satisfactory. Conclusion The application of plastic suture technique in the treatment of emergency facial trauma could obtain good function and aesthetic effect. The postoperative complications are rare and the scars are not obvious. Patients' satisfaction is high. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Objective To explore the clinical application of "cruciform" ear cartilage scaffold and alar groove plasty in tip rhinoplasty. Methods In a retrospective study from January 2014 to December 2017, 37 patients underwent dorsum and tip augmentation with alar grove plasty using the technique. All patients underwent primary augmentation rhinoplasty or a second revision following a simple silicone implant to the dorsum. During the operation, a silicone implant was used for dorsum augmentation. Autologous ear cartilage was harvested and dissected to form a "cruciform" cartilage scafford for tip augmentation. The subcutaneous tissue under desired alar groove area was properly thinned to allow reattachment under percutaneous trans-fixation for 4 to 7 days. Results All patients the postoperative results were mainly satisfying with tip augmentation and a better-defined alar grove. Postoperative courses were uncomplicated during a 6 to 24 months follow-up without tip extrusion, infection, and graft shifting. Conclusion The combined technique is safe and effective in nasal dorsum and tip augmentation with alar grove improvement. It defines the tip and the alar groove area while minimizing the risk of early stage graft shifting in a relatively simple and less invasive way, postoperative appearance is better than before. Objective To explore the effect of mandibular angle osteotomy (MAO) on morphological changes in male patients and to summarize the critical surgical points. Methods Between April 2015 and November 2018, 20 male patients with mandibular angle hypertrophy in our department were retrospectively analyzed. Morphological changes of the mandible were accurately evaluated by three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) reconstruction before and after the MAO. The surgical techniques were also summarized. Results All patients were followed up from 6 to 12 months and were satisfied with the efficacy of MAO. No complications such as hematoma, infection and facial nerve injury occurred. Before and after the MAO, the height of mandibular body under the second molar was significantly different, but there was no significant difference in the distance between the mandibular angle (P>0.05). The osteotomy volume was positively correlated with the height of the mandible, the maximum width of the osteotomy area and the width of mandible ramus at the level of occlusal plane. There was no correlation between the volume of postoperative blood loss and the osteotomy volume. Con-clusion MAO has a good effect on the improvement of lower facial contour in male patients. Attention should be paid to the operation details and techniques to obtain better aesthetic outcomes and reduce the risk of postoperative complications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
