- Abstract
Based on survey data from 14 representative universities in Jiangsu Province, logistic regression is used to analyze the impact of family capital on the quantity and quality of individuals obtaining higher education. The study found that on the whole, family capital has a clearly positive promoting role in the quantity and quality of higher education obtained by children, and the differences in educational opportunities caused by social stratification still exist in the higher education system, and as higher education has expanded, these differences have gradually transitioned from clear unequal quantity to more covert unequal quality. Looking at the mechanism of action, advantaged families use direct resource exclusion and indirect cultural transmission to transform advantages in family capital into advantages in educational opportunities and realize an advantage in obtaining higher education and in the end realizing intergenerational transmission of advantaged social strata.
