Anaerobic digestion (AD) is the most comprehended process to stabilise the waste biomass efficiently and to obtain bioenergy. The AD starts with the hydrolysis process, where the major liability is the action of inhibitors during the hydrolysis process. The biomass pretreatment preceding anaerobic digestion is obligatory to improve feedstock biodegradability for enhanced biogas generation. It can be prevailed by the application of various pretreatment processes. This review explains the major inhibiting compounds and their formation during hydrolysis that affect the efficiency of anaerobic digestion and the benefits of the physico-chemical pretreatment (PCP) method for enhancing hydrolysis in the digestion of waste biomass. The synergistic effect of PCP on macromolecular release, liquefaction and biodegradability were presented. The feasibility of the pretreatment process was evaluated in terms of energy and cost assessment for pilot scale implementation. The outcome of this review reveals that the physico-chemical process is one of the best pretreatment methods to enhance anaerobic digestion by optimising various parameters and increasing the solubilization by about 90%. The thermochemical pretreatment at lower temperature (<100) increases the net energy yield. The solubilization of waste biomass in terms of macromolecular release and liquefaction cannot describe the pretreatment potential. The effectiveness of pretreatment was evaluated by the substrate pre-treatment followed by anaerobic digestibility of pretreated substrate. Discharge of untreated or partially treated toxic dyes containing wastewater from textile industries into water streams is hazardous for environment. The use of heavy metal(s) rich dyes, which are chemically active in azo and sulfur content(s) has been tremendously increasing in last two decades. Conventional physical and chemical treatment processes help to eliminate the dyes from textile wastewater but generates the secondary pollutants which create an additional environmental problem. Microalgae especially the diatoms are promising candidate for dye remediation from textile wastewater. Nanoporous diatoms frustules doped with nanocomposites increase the wastewater remediation efficiency due to their adsorption properties. On the other hand, microalgae with photosynthetic microbial fuel cell have shown significant results in being efficient, cost effective and suitable for large scale phycoremediation. This integrated system has also capability to enhance lipid and carotenoids biosynthesis in microalgae while simultaneously generating the bioelectricity. The present review highlights the textile industry wastewater treatment by live and dead diatoms as well as microalgae such as Chlorella, Scenedesmus, Desmodesmus sp. etc. This review engrosses applicability of diatoms and microalgae as an alternative way of conventional dye removal techniques with techno-economic aspects. The increasing number of food waste (FW) had led to an urgent methods to recycle, black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) was a potential quick waste manager. To assess the impact of BSFL on conversion FW and sawdust into compost via the parameters of maturity, nutrient transformation and volatile fatty acids (VFAs). Meanwhile, the artificial of FW contained noodles, cabbages, rice and pork. FW and sawdust were employed by BSFL (6.5:0.5:1.2 ratio on fresh weight basis) as T1 and without BSFL called control (T2), while moisture content for FW and sawdust was 86.57% and 5.98%. Results illustrated that BSFL declined the composting time and only 9 d. Compared with initial mixture materials, T1 decreased organic matter, total kjeldahl nitrogen and VFAs from 97.41 to 85.96%, 23.01 to 17.77 g kg−1 and 3.25 to 1.69 g kg−1, respectively. However, T1 increased the total phosphorous and total potassium in 3.8 folds and 5 folds. The value of pH and EC reached at 4.27 and 1100 μS cm−1, and the germination index attained to 70.69%. In addition, redundancy analysis was used to analysis the correlation between factors under composting employed with different additive ratio of BSFL. Therefore, BSFL played a vital role in FW and sawdust recycling, especially reduced composting time and made the final separation of larvae and substrate easily, saving labor costs.
