25. The study of TSP, PM2.5–10 and PM2.5 during Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake in the traffic site of central Taiwan, Taichung

Abstract

Ambient particle concentration was taken on the traffic sampling site over the Chung-Chi Road over bridge (CCROB) in front of Hungkuang Institute of Technology (HKIT). The sampling time was from August 1999 to December 1999. During the sampling period, Taiwan's biggest earthquake in more than a century registered 7.3 on the Richter scale (Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake). Besides, there were more than 20,000 aftershocks that followed the Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake within three months. Thus, the PM2.5, PM(2.5-10) particle concentrations were also collected then and compared with total suspended particle (TSP) in this study. The average PM(2.5-10), PM2.5 and TSP concentrations are 24.6, 58.0 and 106 microg/m3, respectively, after the Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake. The average TSP concentrations before and after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake were 70 and 127 microg/m3, respectively. It is clearly shown that the average concentration of TSP after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake was about 1.8 times as that of TSP concentration before Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake in the traffic site of central Taiwan. And the ratios of PM2.5/PM(2.5-10), PM2.5/PM10 and PM2.5/TSP are 2.2%, 67.2%, 38.9%, respectively. The results also indicated about Chi-Chi fine particle concentration (PM25) and the TSP increases in the traffic site of central Taiwan after Taiwan Chi-Chi Earthquake.

30. Sustainable aquaculture and seafood production using microalgal technology - a circular bioeconomy perspective.

Abstract

The aquaculture industry is under the framework of the food-water-energy nexus due to the extensive use of water and energy. Sustainable practices are required to support the tremendous growth of this sector. Currently, the aquaculture industry is challenged by reliance on capture fisheries for feed, increased use of pharmaceuticals, infectious outbreaks, and solid/liquid waste management. This review posits microalgal technology as a comprehensive solution for the current predicaments in aquaculture in a sustainable way. Microalgae are microscopic, freshwater and marine photosynthetic organisms, capable of carbon mitigation and bioremediation. They are indispensable in aquaculture due to their key role in marine productivity and their position in the marine food chain. Microalgae are nutritious and are currently used as feed in specific sectors of aquaculture. Due to their bioremediation potential, direct application of microalgae in shellfish ponds and in recirculating systems have been adopted to improve water quality and aquatic animal health. The potential of microalgae for integration into various aspects of aquaculture processes, namely hatcheries, feed, and waste management has been critically analyzed. 31. Morphology-dependent MoO 3 /Ni-F nanostructures with enhanced electrochemical hydrogen peroxide detection.

Abstract

The present report investigates the various MoO 3 morphologies prepared via different approaches such as morphologies are cubic sheet, ribbon, and hexagonal sheet. These prepared nanostructures are modified as a MoO 3 /Ni-F electrode used to detect hydrogen peroxide (H 2 O 2 ). The influence of the morphology on the microstructural, morphological, electronic state, optical and electrochemical properties of MoO 3 nanostructures are systematically studied. The recorded XRD spectra confirmed that the good crystalline nature with the orthorhombic crystal structure. The FESEM analysis shows that preparation approaches strongly influenced the MoO 3 morphology. The elemental mapping and XPS analysis confirm the formation of MoO 3 . The obtained optical band gap values show that the MoO 3 morphology-based bandgap values are 3.38, 3.17, and 2.94 eV. The modified MoO 3 /Ni-F electrode electrochemical impedance spectra show the CP-MoO 3 has good conductivity. Moreover, the CP-MoO 3 /Ni-F electrode has a wide detection window, long-term stability, reproducibility, and a low detection limit is 1.2 μM. Hence, the CP-MoO 3 /Ni-F electrode electrochemical results suggest that the modified electrode has offered a good matrix for toxic contaminants sensing applications., (Copyright © 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
