Reactions of SiCl 4 with R 2 PO(OH) (R=Me, Cl) yield compounds with six-fold coordinated silicon atoms. Whereas R=Me afforded the hexacoordinated tetra-cationic silicon complex [Si(Me 2 PO(OH)) 6 ] 4+ with chloride counter-ions, R=Cl caused release of HCl with formation of a cyclic dimeric silicon complex [Si(Cl 2 PO(OH))(Cl 2 PO 2 ) 3 (μ-Cl 2 PO 2 )] 2 with bridging bidentate dichlorophosphates., (© 2020 The Authors. X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) was used to elucidate changes in the electronic structure caused by the pressure-induced structural collapse in EuCo 2 P 2 . The spectral changes observed at the L 3 -edge of Eu and K-edges of Co and P suggest electron density redistribution, which contradicts the formal charges calculated from the commonly used Zintl-Klemm concept. Quantum-chemical calculations show that, despite the increase in the oxidation state of Eu and the formation of a weak P-P bond in the high-pressure phase, the electron transfer from the Eu 4f orbitals to the hybridized 5d and 6s states causes strengthening of the Eu-P and P-P bonds. These changes explain the increased electron density on P atoms, deduced from the P K-edge XAS spectra. This work shows that the formal electron counting schemes do not provide an adequate description of changes associated with phase transitions in metallic systems with substantial mixing of the electronic states., (© 2019 Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. H3 O(+) and OH(-) , formed by the self-ionization of two coordinating water molecules during the crystal growing of a host molecule [1,3,5-tris(hydroxymethyl)2,4,6-triethylbenzene (1)], could be effectively stabilized by hydrogen-bonding interactions with the preorganized hydroxy groups of three molecules of 1. The binding motifs observed in the complex (1)3 ⋅H3 O(+) ⋅HO(-) show remarkable similarity to those postulated for the hydrated hydronium and hydroxide ion complexes, which play important roles in various chemical, biological, and atmospheric processes, but their molecular structures are still not fully understood and remain a subject of intensive research., (© 2015 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Kryptopyrrole (2,4-dimethyl-3-ethylpyrrole) was acylated with, for example, benzoyl chloride to afford 2-benzoyl-3,5-dimethyl-4-ethylpyrrole (L(1)H). With SiCl4 this ligand reacts under liberation of HCl and formation of the complex L(1)2SiCl2. In related reactions with HSiCl3 or H2SiCl2, the same chlorosilicon complex is formed under liberation of HCl and H2 or liberation of H2, respectively. The chlorine atoms of L(1)2SiCl2 can be replaced by fluoride and triflate using ZnF2 and Me3Si-OTf, respectively. The use of a supporting base (triethylamine) is required for the complexation of phenyltrichlorosilane and diphenyldichlorosilane. The complexes L(1)2SiCl2, L(1)2SiF2, L(1)2Si(OTf)2, L(1)2SiPhCl, and L(1)2SiPh2 exhibit various configurations of the octahedral silicon coordination spheres (i.e. cis or trans configuration of the monodentate substituents, different orientations of the bidentate chelating ligands relative to each other). Furthermore, cationic silicon complexes L(1)3Si(+) and L(1) SiPh(+) were synthesized by chloride abstraction with GaCl3. In contrast, reaction of L(1)2SiCl2 with a third equivalent of L(1)H in the presence of excess triethylamine produced a charge-neutral hexacoordinate Si complex with a new tetradentate chelating ligand which formed by Si-templated C-C coupling of two ligands L(1)., (© 2014 WILEY-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Recently developed MOF surface-coating techniques, the controlled SBU approach (CSA) for the generation of MOF-5, and the use of self-assembled monolayers have been combined to generate a wall-bonded, crosslinked stationary phase for gas chromatographic capillary columns displaying excellent performance in the separation of natural gas components. The chromatographic performance of this new type of column has been compared to the state-of-the-art solution for this separation problem, namely a coated silica column of the porous layer open tubular (PLOT) type. Chromatographic parameters such as separation, resolution, and tailing factors, as well as plate numbers and heights in the case of isothermal operation, have been determined. Examples of a new type of cryptophane molecule incorporating aromatic groups in the bridges (1-4) and, for the first time, being also supplied with three endo-positional ionizable carboxylic acid functions (1) have been synthesized and characterized. The cryptophane triester 2 yielded a solvate (channel inclusion compound) with trichloromethane and water, the X-ray crystal structure of which is reported. The complexation of 1 with low-molecular-weight alcohols in solution was studied, and the liquid-liquid extraction of different metal ions including alkali (Na(+), Cs(+)), alkaline earth (Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Sr(2+), Ba(2+)), and the lanthanide metal ions Eu(3+) and Yb(3+) in an extraction system containing metal nitrate buffer/H(2)O/1/CHCl(3) was examined. Molecular modeling calculations of the cryptophanes 1 and 2, and of the Eu(3+) complex of 1 were carried out contributing to the discussion.
