To achieve electrode performance with both high capacity and long cycle life, we investigated the effect of the anion structure in an ionic liquid electrolyte on the electrochemical performance of an annealed Ni-P/(etched Si) negative electrode for Li-ion batteries. The electrode maintained a discharge capacity of 1890 mA h g-1 after 250 cycles in bis(fluorosulfonyl)amide-based ionic liquid electrolyte, which was approximately three times higher than that in bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)amide-based electrolyte.

The crystal structure of H-LDS (Si 8 O 20 H 8 )-an acidified form of the layered silicate K—LDS—was determined. Structure analysis from X-ray powder diffraction data shows that its layer structure comprises a six-membered Si atom ring network. 1 H MAS NMR spectroscopy indicates strong intra- and interlayer hydrogen bonding between neighboring terminal oxygen atoms. Electron density distributions attributed to hydrogen bonding are obtained by the maximum entropy method. The structure of H-LDS is stabilized by the hydrogen bonds without an alkali metal cation.

The Al/HD/MC/Au sandwich-type photovoltaic cell exhibits a relatively large photocurrent quantum yield of 39% at 445 nm when illuminated with the light of 21.5 μWcm−2 intensity at the Al/HD interface, where MC and HD represent 3-carboxymethyl-5-[(3-ethyl-2(3H)-benzothiazolylidine)ethylidene]-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone and a heterodimer consisting of 5,10,15-tri(4-chlorophenyl)-20-(3-pyridyl)porphyrin (H2pyp3p(Cl)) and 5,10,15,20-tetra(2,5-dimethoxyphenyl)porphyrinatozinc (Zntpp(OMe)2), respectively.

The Al/dye/Au sandwich-type photovoltaic cell with a mixed solid of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrinatozinc (Zntpp) and 3-ethyl-5-[(3-ethyl-2(3H)-benzothiazolylidene)ethylidene]-2-thioxo-4-thiazolidinone (MC) exhibits a remarkably large energy conversion yield and a better spectral match with a solar spectrum, compared with a pure Zntpp or a MC solid.

Thermal reaction of 2H-azirines, bearing a methoxy or methylthio group at the neighboring position to azirine ring, was studied. In thermolysis of ethyl 2-(2-methoxynaphth-1-yl)-2H-azirine-3-carboxylate, attack of the vinyl nitrene at the peri position to form a 1-azaphenalene ring was observed. In thermal reaction of its thio analogue, 1-azaphenalene was also formed, but a naphthothiazine formed by the attack of vinyl nitrene at the sulfur atom was the major product. Mechanisms and differences of the reactions depending on O and S are discussed.

Glycolatoplatinum(II) complexes, [Pt(OCOCH2O)L2], having a novel five-membered ring structure were obtained by adding an equimolar quantity of glycolic acid to cis-[Pt(OH)2L2] (L: NH3, amines) in water followed by heating. These complexes have also been obtained by reaction of cis-[Pt(NO3)2L2] with sodium glycolate in neutral aqueous solution. These complexes have been characterized by SIMS, IR, and NMR spectroscopy.
