The NMR spectra of 1,3-diols and γ-alkoxy alcohols indicate that these compounds exist predominantly in a hydrogen bonded conformation. threo- and erythro-diastereomers show distinct differences in their 13C NMR spectra which may be used to assign the relative configuration to each individual member of a pair of diastereomers. threo/erythro-Zuordnung von 1,3-Diol-Derivaten auf der Basis von 13C-NMR-Spektren Die NMR-Spektren von 1,3-Diolen und von γ-Alkoxyalkoholen ergeben Hinweise dafur, das diese Verbindungen vorwiegend in einer Wasserstoff-verbruckten Konformation vorliegen. Die threo- und erythro-Diastereomeren zeigen nun charakteristische Unterschiede in den 13C-NMR-Spektren, auf deren Basis die relative Konfiguration eines Paars von Dia-stereomeren zugeordnet werden kann.

Die Darstellung der in 2,4-Stellung mit Ester- (31) oder Aldehydgruppen (33) disubstituierten Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane gelang uber die acetalisierende Ozonolyse des Tricyclo[3.2.1.02,4]octen-Derivats 28. Dagegen fuhrten Versuche zur Kondensation von 1,2-cis-disubstituierten Cyclo-propanen mit Orthoameisensaureester-Derivaten nicht zum Erfolg. Synthesis of 2,4-Disubstiuted Bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane Derivatives The preparation of bicyclo[3.1.0]hexane derivatives possessing ester (31) or aldehyde (33) groups in the 2,4-positions was realized via acetal forming ozonolysis of the tricyclo[3.2.1.02,4]-octene 28. Attempts to condense 1,2-cis-disubstituted cyclopropanes with orthoformate derivatives were unsuccessful.

Stereoselective synthesis is attracting more and more attention. Successful stereoselective syntheses require the availability of reactions of known stereochemistry which give maximum yields of the desired products. This is particularly so with reactions proceeding via cyclic transition states. Of these, the stereochemistry of [3,3]sigmatropic processes has long been known. This article now summarizes the factors determining the stereoselectivity of [2,3]sigmatropic rearrangememts.

At least the latter rearrangement involves free radicals as labelling experiments suggest.
