Abstract

This report surveys the recent development of layered double hydroxides (LDHs) as catalytic materials, which have attracted considerable attention in the past decade. A major challenge in the rapidly growing field is to improve the functionalities of these materials. Therefore, this article is mainly focused on the lately reported design and synthesis strategies for LDH materials and their catalytic applications as actual catalysts, catalyst precursors and catalyst supports.

Abstract

The synthesis of single-crystalline ZnGa2O4 spinel phosphor with intense ultraviolet-emitting properties through a novel single-source inorganic precursor route is reported. This synthetic approach involves the calcination of a Zn−Ga layered double hydroxide precursor followed by selective leaching of the self-generated zinc oxide. Material characterization has been presented by chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction analysis, thermogravimetric−differential thermal analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, electron paramagnetic resonance, nuclear magnetic resonance, extended X-ray absorption fine structure analysis, UV–vis, and photoluminescence measurements. The results indicate that a single-crystalline ZnGa2O4 spinel with an average particle size of around 150 nm has been obtained at a lower calcination temperature and shorter calcination time compared with that with the high-temperature solid-state...

Abstract

Synthesis of complex metal oxide monoliths (MgAl2O4, MgFe2O4, and In2–xMgxO3) with macropore frameworks through a novel single-source inorganic precursor route is successfully established. The synthesis approach mainly involves the formation of two-phase composite (desired complex metal oxide and MgO phases) monoliths induced by high-temperature sintering of layered double hydroxide (LDH) precursors, followed by a selective leaching of self-generated MgO sacrificial template from the sintered two-phase composites. The materials have been characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDX). Abstract

We have found that the combination of chlorosilane and metallic Dy can serve as an effective promoter for the radical cyclotrimerization of alkynes as well as the transformation of imines to imidazolidines and hydrazines. In addition, catalytic quantities of SiCl4/Dy can also effectively promote the radical polymerization of methyl methacrylate.

Abstract

An efficient and highly stereoselective total synthesis of d-biotin has been achieved starting from cis-1,3-dibenzyl-2-imidazolidone-4,5-dicarboxylic acid (2) with an overall yield of 33%. Polymer-supported oxazaborolidine-catalyzed asymmetric reduction of meso-cyclic imide 4 constitutes the key synthetic step in introducing stereogenic centers into the d-biotin molecule.
