Phosphine–thiourea based-organocatalysts derived from l-proline promoted C−N or C−S bond formation of tert-butoxycarbonyloxy-Morita—Baylis—Hillman adducts with phthalimide or alkyl thiols, respectively. Good yields and enantioselectivities up to 93 % were achieved.

The title reaction is carried out with acid chlorides as reactants in the presence of base to give the corresponding functionalized amides.

Via ion-pair electrostatic interactions with sulfonate anions, the phosphine-ligated Ru(III) complex cations of [RuIIICl4(L)2]+ (L = 1-butyl-2-(diphenylphosphino)-3-methylimidazolium) were successfully immobilized into a sulfonated SBA-15 framework, leading to the formation of the cationic Ru(III) complex and anionic sulfonate co-modified SBA-15 material (referred to as Ru-SO3-SBA-15). This material was characterized by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), N2 adsorption–desorption isotherms, FT–IR, and elemental analysis techniques. As a heterogeneous catalyst, Ru-SO3-SBA-15 exhibited comparable activity and selectivity to the parent homogeneous catalyst [RuIIICl4(L)2]PF6 in transfer hydrogenation of ketones. However, as a result of the limited durability of Ru-SO3-SBA-15 in strongly alkaline environments at high temperature, the activity of Ru-SO3-SBA-15 could not be maintained during subsequent recycled uses.

Ligand (I) and its endo isomer are prepared via different approaches and tested in the title reaction.

A variety of isosorbide-derived amino alcohols as well as diamines such as (I) is prepared and tested as ligands in the Ru-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of aromatic ketones.

An efficient synthesis of fluorinated N-aryl sulfoximines (III) and (VI) is presented, involving the copper-catalyzed N-arylation of the corresponding sulfoximines (I) and (IV), resp., with aryl iodides or bromides.

The first enantioselective synthesis of ( S )-5-bromo-3-(1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl)pyridine is described via intramolecular hydroboration–cycloalkylation of an azido-olefin intermediate. The chiral homoallylic alcohol was efficiently synthesized by enantioselective reduction of the corresponding ketone using (+)-diisopinocamphenylchloroborane as the key reaction. The total synthesis of ( S )-SIB-1508Y was achieved with an enantiomeric excess (e.e.) of 94% in ten steps and in 18% overall yield from the commercially available 5-bromo-3-pyridinecarboxylic acid.

A highly efficient procedure for the synthesis of 2-substituted-2,3-dihydro-4-pyridone derivatives through the aza-Diels-Alder reaction under 'green chemistry' conditions is described. The reaction of Danishefsky's diene with imines has been found to perform better at room temperature in ionic liquids without an acid catalyst and organic solvent: the ionic liquids are recycled while their efficiency is nreserved.

The first example of the use of chiral ionic liquids as reaction media in the asymmetric Baylis–Hillman reaction was described using N -alkyl- N -methylephedrinium salts. Good yields and significant enantiomeric excesses were obtained.
